To qualify my review: this place gets 5 stars on account of it being in Waunakee where there's not much to eat. It's basically just a good small town family diner. Cheap prices, friendly service, and big heaping servings of comfort food. My favorite sandwich is the Club Classic, a triple-decker turkey club made with real roast turkey, not cold cuts. Awesome. Order a sandwich "deluxe" and it comes with a cup of soup (just get the chicken soup) and your choice of side (choices include friggin spaghetti with meat sauce!). Otherwise they have great breakfast food all day, and big huge awesome looking cakes and pies. Extra points for the bluehairs that seem to be in there every time I go there. read more

As a resident of Waunakee, we have extremely limited options if we'd like to go out for breakfast. Spring Garden is always understaffed, never overly friendly and the food is average. We do keep going back occasionally though, because our options are so limited. A recent visit saw us waiting 30 minutes just to get someone to come talk to us and grab our drink order (which we ordered our food during as well). So I would avoid if you can, stop by M n M's if it isn't too busy or make the drive into Middleton to Sofra Bistro. read more

This was the first time at this restaurant we had 5 people 3 adults and 2 kids we waited almost and hour for our food they didn't bring any drinks until we asked the 2 yr was starving and then after waiting all this time the waitress forgot the kids meals also the sausages were raw so no one was able. Have gotten take-out from the place a few times with generally positive results. As another reviewer commented - the place smells kinda mildewy when you walk in. They really need to fix that as it makes a bad first impression. One of those smells you'd get used to after sitting there for a while, but still think of after you've left. read more

Very good diner. My family and I hit it up on the weekend's for breakfast or late lunches at least once a month. Staff is always friendly and service has been great, especially with kids. Breakfasts are very good with the standard breakfast fare and priced very reasonable, don't feel bad adding that extra order of bacon or pancakes. Lunches are also pretty standard fare for a diner but taste great and the prices again are very reasonable. The only thing keeping it from being a 5 star in my mind is just the fact that it is a standard diner, no frills, no interesting twists on anything, but very solid. read more

I was very happy to find this decent local breakfast place. Does a good business on the weekends, but we've never a wait to be seated. Friendly service. Nothing fancy or trendy but made better by the absolute lack of other options in Waunakee. That said,my eggs are always perfectly done and my daughter makes happy sounds when she eats their biscuits. The only disappointment was the hashbrowns which are pretty dry and tasteless. Easy to miss it tucked in a strip mall by the hardware store, but a safe bet for a good breakfast if you are in the area. read more

Food provided in healthy portions. A decent price for the town located in. Too much unprofessionalism displayed by a certain waitress who also happens to be the owner. Have ordered oatmeal in past and on one occasion had an unexpected bonus ingredient which happened to be a piece of lettuce steam. Its a family owned business: one being the head cook and the other being the previously mentioned waitress. Went in on weekend morning and asked for specials as the menus hadn't yet included the specials insert. Waitress Mary looked annoyed. Hemmed and hawed through specials and then told me I could get up and go look at the special board. I told Mary I would think it over but then preceded to wait many more minutes even though a few other waitresses were idle and appeared not to be immediately busy while Mary was attending to a large group. Instead of passing over a patron to a waitress who could serve me in a timely fashion she had allowed me to continue to wait to even PLACE the order! Another waitress I overheard inquired about my presence but Mary retorted, "I got it, I got it". But yet the wait continued. Considering the circumstances, I had had enough and walked out. A few days later I ate breakfast with a GOOD waitress at same restaurant and the head cook came out and started yelling at me for walking out. How's that for a classy establishment. NOT! We went there on a sunday morning before the church rush. We were seated at 845 and were not acknowledged by our waitress until just after 9am. Our waitress argued with my wife about her order. When we finally got our food, the waitress said they had forgotten my wife's order. Then the waitress came back and didn't bring my daughter and I's drinks. She said she would be right back with my wife's coffee and took more than 10 minutes. Our waitress was older and blonde. We will not be going back there any time soon. The food wasn't worth the wait and hassle we received either. Someone should open up a breakfast restaurant in Waunakee and put spring garden out of business. HORRIBLE!!!!! read more

Went with a Groupon. I asked the server and she said Groupon was ok. When checking out the lady barely knew about Groupon. She had incredibly long research session about what Groupon is. Stopped there for a small family get together around 11am. The good news is the staff was very friendly, and the cost was reasonable. Bad news is the minute we walked in we were overwhelmed with a strong smell of mildew. Big turn off. I ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs. Eggs came cold, steak was overcooked. Texture was if they just took it out of the freezer and put it in the microwave. It was gross. When we got home it was a race for the bathroom. Need I say more? Won't be back. read more

Excellent Local Family restaurant (not a Chinese Restaurant as one of the Yelp listings says). They have a great menu with many daily specials too. Breakfast is served all day! Fast and friendly service. Would highly recommend. They have about 6 different types of fish fry combos on Friday too. They do not serve alcohol which is fine with me. Nothing special at all. Old dingy place that makes you question how clean the kitchen is and if you are going to get sick eating the food. Service is not friendly. Don't even try to use a Groupon you may have purchased here. They will make up stipulations that don't match anything the Groupon says and then will not honor your Groupon. We live in Middleton, but drive to Waunakee quite often to enjoy a meal at the Spring Garden Restaurant. The selection from the menu is vast, whether it be breakfast, lunch or dinner. It is a family-owned business with Dad as the wonderful chef and daughters and extended family who share plenty of smiles and excellent service. We have NEVER been unhappy with anything we've had. We have many favorites and also find a delicious entrée among their specials. Everything on the menu is reasonably priced. We seldom go away with out a take-home box since portions are generous. Two of our favorite items...a side of spaghetti and dessert are offered free with most meals. But...if you like Tapioca Pudding??? Here it is creamy and delicious. They will warm it,, top it with a spritz of whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon. Now that makes this restaurant a little gem worth checking out...and often! Enjoy! Conni H-R read more

I have been to this restaurant several times, it was okay. They have good prices and decent food. I'm not overly impressed due to the fact I have always worked in restaurants and it just didn't impress me all that much. However the staff is friendly and usually the timing is okay. For those who care the staff is usually teenagers especially later in the day, and haven't had a lot of experience with waiting tables. I seem to know what should come with my meal more than they do sometimes. So help them out by knowing what comes with your meal so they don't have to come back and ask because they didn't know. read more

This is a good family restaurant. Their food is good, solid Wisconsin fare. Their soups are great. Pie is included with all their dinner specials. There is nothing trendy, as most of the customers are from the local area and don't want Madison nouvelle cuisine. Good place for breakfast. Try the Denver skillet. read more

I love Spring garden. Great down home cooking. The fried chicken is to die for. Super nice family that owns and runs the restaurant. Prices can not be beat. I can feed a family of 5 for under $30.
