This place was great! Sort of a random find. I finished a work assignment and myself and 7 coworkers went out for breakfast. They accommodated us in the space and were very friendly. I ordered the Denver omelette with egg whites and upgraded my pancakes to the white chocolate raspberry for a $2 up charge. Everything was delicious! Great portions, not too oily, and tasty. Reasonable prices for the portions. Would def stop back if in the area! Also one of few places in Madison that has their own parking lot. Downtown it can be difficult to park. read more

I've come here a few times and I love a particular waitress (white woman, glasses, very friendly). The food isn't spectacular, but it's good enough to eat occasionally. However, today was disappointing. I noticed that a servers neck hair was touching the food she was serving as the black tray was resting on her shoulder. I couldn't get her attention to tell her myself, so I told my waitress. I saw my waitress talk to the waitress of concern. Nothing changed. She didn't go back and put her hair up, she didn't put on a hair net, nothing. As I was walking out she had a party of 16 folks and advised on my observations. I hope they do better because it's a nice place that gets the job done when you're hungry. read more

We were out of town and needed a breakfast place for a group of 7 so thought we'd try this one. It's a family style diner so wasn't expecting any really interesting ambiance so I wasn't disappointed in the venue. The food was good, but then it's hard to screw up bacon and eggs. The service however was a totally different issue. The waitress was snotty and about as helpful as a wet dish rag. One friend asked about a substitution in his omelet and you would have thought he asked for the moon. She very sharply replied "no substitutions". Really? It's that hard to not put in mushrooms and add another ingredient? When the server brought our coffees, 2 decaf and mine fully loaded, the others were told, oh good, you're drinking the healthy kind. Just far enough from campus for close easy access without hungover students standing in long line outside waiting to get in. I love this place. The food is reliable, always the same level of quality. It's not fancy or anything, but it's good, and there are a lot of options. Everything I've had here has been good, but I think their pancakes, waffles, and burgers are especially good. No matter what time it is, you can get breakfast, lunch, or dinner food. My sleep schedule often shifts in weird ways and sometimes, I wake up at 3pm and want breakfast. Or what if I'm about ready for bed at 9am and want a burger, some soup, and a salad? They'll make that for me. They also usually follow instructions. If they don't, it's probably because they can't. But if you don't want mayo on something, they never get that wrong. I just ordered some pancakes and a turkey sandwich and it's only 7:40am! They haven't arrived yet but unless I change this review, everything was probably great. read more

This place was not bad. I went for breakfast and found the price to be right. The portions are awesome and they came around with refills so frequently, I couldn't tell how many cups I had. The breakfast meals we got were under $11. Top sirloin, eggs, hash browns and pancakes - $10.99. Country fried steak, eggs, hash brown and pancakes - $8.99. She will gossip about you and spread lies if she doesn't like you, if you're not part of the Parkway cult clique. Has a very irritating bitchy personality. Servings are huge and the food is pretty good. I'm going through the stages of food coma from my country fried steak and eggs as I type this. Just what the name suggests. Great place to grab breakfast. Good service and a friendly waitress.

I was happy with my blueberry pancakes and bacon. Service was good, and the waitress offered to bring us our own pot of coffee in case she couldn't get to us to refill when we needed it, which was very nice. My boyfriend ordered the biscuits and gravy--they're his favorite meal in the world. He was disappointed that they didn't have much flavor. This is gonna sound nuts, but the thing that really bothered me was the fact that there was a housefly buzzing around. Which normally isn't a big deal... except this was the end of November. When I did the math on insect life cycles, I realized it was probably not born outside. Which made me uncomfortable. That's about all I can say on the subject. This place isn't terrible. It's not the best ever either, but it's a normal greasy-spoon-type spot. If you want a hearty breakfast with all the classic American fixins, it should do alright. Pleasantly surprised. The Parkway was a fixture of my childhood. I dont specifically remember eating there, but I remember driving by, and being inside. At some point, there was a fire, and they rebuilt, looking very little like the Parkway of my memories. I've only been there 2 or so times since then, and frankly forgot they existed. A friend and I were looking for a low key place to sit and talk over coffee without dealing with the usual Starbucks type crowds. We ended up here. Originally we were just getting coffee, but our server talked us in to getting some homemade lasagna to take home. It came with soup and salad bar. I ate the salad bar in the restaurant. It wasnt particularly impressive-- missing some items, the lettuce looked a little old. I saw someone refreshing it after my trip. I took home the lasagna and some chicken and dumpling soup. I was really not expecting the quality of food that I got. The soup was clearly also homemade. It was a little bland, but the chicken was tender, the dumplings were fresh, it was wonderful on a cold winter night. The lasagna wasnt necessarily authentic Italian, but it tasted exactly like something your American grandmother might have made. Fresh ingredients, heavy, comfort food. I never would have thought to come here for food but I'll be back. Prices are very reasonable. read more

The staff are incredibly friendly and consistently on top of their game. My favorite things of this place include the bottomless coffee without having to ask, large portions, and the fact that the staff bring condiments that logically go with food without asking. For example, of you get steak and eggs, the A1 comes without even needing to mention. My favorite thing here is the pork chops and eggs. Two large pork chops, perfectly cooked, with two eggs any way, toast and hashbrowns. You also have the option of pancakes and fruit as well. The staff were friendly and service was quick. I ordered the chicken fried chicken with french fries and a salad. The salad was pretty good. The chicken and fries were a nice, warm meal and the flavors were familiar and homey. My boyfriend had a burger and fries, as well as a cup of clam chowder. The chowder was, surprisingly, pretty great. He said that his burger was good, but more well-done than he had requested. The fries were standard, but enjoyable. The waitresses are who you would hope to see in a place like this - - friendly, hard-working, knowledgeable about the menu and always ready with a smile and a refill for your coffee cup. Blue collar, white collar, families, businessmen, lonely hearts, all seem to be welcome and are here. The food is not gourmet by any means.
