Great service and the food is amazing! It's busy but they served us very fast and kept my coffee full.

Prices were very high over $50 for breakfast for 2. I think $7.00 for coffee is out of line too.

The service was excellent! Our waitress was so informative and friendly! My friend loved her breakfast burrito. My Denver Omelette was okay. The cuts on the onions were off. Came to brunch at 11:30 on a Sunday with a group of 4 and had a pretty good time. A good option if you're in the area and need a spot for breakfast or brunch. Pros: - Easy to get a table - Plenty of parking - Good variety of food for a classic breakfast - I ordered the Hobo Supreme Skillet and I was pretty happy with it. My partner ordered one of the French toasts and it was pretty plain. Cons: - While our server was attentive, I felt a little rushed. The bill was brought before we were asked if we needed anything else. And it wasn't explained to us that we needed to pay up front. - The restaurant smelled a little like bleach. I feel like this was spot on for a diner experience. The breakfast food was good. The eggs were cooked as expected, the biscuits and gravy were fine (not great), and the hash browns were good once you added a little salt and pepper. Coffee refills were offered regularly, soda as well. C ordered chocolate chip pancakes and those were actually shockingly good. The lunch menu looked a little light on options but I would lean toward heading here for breakfast anyway. They weren't swarmed in the morning but it was still solid food with good service. I go to Dairyland Restaurant in Madison and DeForest Family Restaurant...and until now Sir Hobo's in Sun Prairie...basic skillet meals..wife and I...over $40 for breakfast... they have cut down portions considerably...Two other restaurants mentioned bigger portions especially Dairyland ...$25-30...including egg surcharge and soda. Too bad, sir Hobo's has good service. We were visiting family in town and were looking for a place for brunch. We came here a couple times growing up and thought it would be a good option. We had 6 people in our party and they were able to sit us quickly, despite being pretty busy. The waiter wasn't the friendliest person, but they did their job well and I could tell they took it seriously. We ordered our food, and within 5ish minutes the food was already out to us, they were so quick! It also tasted really good and it seemed everyone was happy with their food. In short. Pretty average. Tried a couple options on the menu and everything is okay. From what I have had I can't imagine anything knocking someone's socks off The Irish Skillet was okay like I said. For $10-11 the portion is seemingly okay but I would have happily paid 2-4 dollars more for a larger portion. Biscuits and gravy were fine. A little seasoning could go a long way. The pancakes. Were again okay. Very generic (not saying that's a bad thing) it's just not going to make you say "it's the best you ever had". Prices are reasonable. Location is good with okay parking. A local spot serving all the basics for breakfast from pancakes and waffles to skillets, eggs and sandwiches. Clearly family run and one of a kind and eating here will fill you up without breaking the banks. There were three of us in our group when we stopped by early on a Monday morning for breakfast and we pretty much had the place to ourselves. The menu covers all the breakfast classics so I decided on a pecan waffle and some bacon. Others in our group tried the skillet and some eggs. Food was decent quality, hot and arrived promptly. Pretty basic food overall. The best way to think of this place is a one-off Denny's or fancier I-hop. Good place for seniors and families. read more

Ugh they try and pass off corn syrup as maple syrup. Then they come by and ask of everything is ok, and when you tell them wtf is this syrup, they ignore it... then why do you ask? We went back here for the second time since the remodel. Both times we had breakfast items. We've never had lunch or dinner food here, and from reading other reviews it would appear that is a good thing. The remodeling looks nice, and it's now a no-smoking establishment. But neither of these two aspects can apparently help the fact that your elbows and/or arms are going to stick to the tables. Maybe it's a trap! Like flies on sticky paper! Service was good both times, and breakfast food is solid. But if they can't keep the tables clean, what else is filthy dirty? read more

I love this place for what it is. Is it going to wow an out of town guest? Probably not. But if you are looking for a diner to have solid breakfast food, then you are in luck. Sir Hobos excels at that. When I am craving a breakfast on the weekend, this is usually the place I go to. I love their sausage links and everything else I have had (eggs, hash browns, waffles) have been very good as well. I've taken a couple of others here and they very much enjoyed their meals as well. children's menu has pancakes with sausage or bacon for 5.99. my child ordered the chocolate pancakes with bacon and was told that the chocolate chip ones dont come with bacon. so she has to order bacon as a side. they charged 3.99 for the bacon.. ridiculous the bacon came out under cooked so asked to make it crispy then came out burnt. so glad to pay almost as much as her meal for a side of burnt bacon. absolutely terrible. read more

We've been here for breakfast a few times. We have never had a bad experience with the service, but I wouldn't say that it is outstanding. We've actually had the same waitress 2 out of 3 times and she is fine at her job but lacks personality. As long as they get the order right and check on you, who cares? I will say that every time we are here, we see other guests complaining or arguing with staff. Sometimes it appears to be just entitled douchebags who like to complain, but the fact that we've seen it multiple times makes me think there may in fact be an issue with some of the servers. On to the most important thing, the food. We've only tried breakfast here, and it is very good. I love getting the bacon skillet. The hashbrowns are always cooked well and there is always a ton of crispy bacon mixed in. My favorite thing about this place is that they allow you to have a pancake with your meal instead of just toast. We love the chocolate chip and blueberry pancakes here. Came here for breakfast on a Sunday around 10am. The place is pretty lit with natural lighting. Steady busy when we first got there but was seated at a booth right away and got greeted my our waiter. I ordered the tasty trios of cinnamon toast, egg and sausage for $8.99. I also got a glass of orange juice for $2.99, thought that was pretty steep. Food did not take long to come out. Was not impressed when I came for lunch. I ordered the ribeye steak sandwich with seasoned fries. The sandwich was very big but the steak was a really cheap cut of meat. I couldn't even take bites out of it, it was so tough. Every time I tried, the entire steak would just slide out from the bread. It was a pretty disappointing sandwich. I would not recommend. The seasoned fries were solid. I also tried their chicken noodle soup, which was really good and appeared to be homemade. The service was pretty poor. The waitress was not friendly at all. read more

This is one of the more generic "family" places out there, but I actually did enjoy it. Now, I'm one of those folks who believes breakfast should be served three times a day, so my breakfast in the afternoon hit the spot. The sausage was tasty and the hashbrowns were just perfect. Absolutely horrible. The building has been recently remodeled because it burned. I'd guess the insurance company didn't cover a replacement broom, vacuum and cleaning supplies. My arms stuck to the new table, the floor was really littered with garbage and my silverware was dirty. Gross. It was 2pm on Sat and dead. No excuse for dirty. The waitress was really nice, I think her name was Sarah. She was personable and attentive. She's the only reason I'd give this place a star at all. I ordered a Gyro sandwich. It came with fries and a bowl of soup. I ordered Broccoli Cheese soup. I think if I heated up some Velveeta and added a gallon of water to it, then tossed in a bunch of dirty, uncut broccoli, I could duplicate the Sir Hobo recipe. I wish the rest of the meal was that good. When the Gyro arrived, it reeked of rotten deer carcass, the plate was filthy and the fries were colder than Alaska in December. I'm not joking. The Gyro tasted so bad that I had to spit a mouthful of it into a napkin and slug down a glass of water to cleanse the horse-s--t taste from my mouth. Sarah noticed that I hadn't eaten my food, she offered to remove it from the bill with out me asking. I would normally applaude that gesture, but some older foreign lady (I assume the owner) came over and told her not to do that. "I'll make you new sandwich," said the old lady. I declined. I figured I couldn't choke down another bite of the garbage they call food. I paid my 9 dollars for a lousy cup of liquid Velveeta and left. I bet the Dairy Queen across the parking lot is glad that Sir Hobo's is back open. I wonder how many people have done what I did... walk to DQ and had an ice cream cone to try to clean the aftertaste of death and decay from my mouth. Never again. I'd go to DQ instead. read more

We used to live in Sun Prairie years ago when we first moved to Wisconsin. The first place we ate at was Sir Hobos. At the time, the menu was really basic and not much seemed to be "homemade". To be honest, we stopped going there. As was mentioned below, there was a fire and they did a complete redo of the restaurant. The food seems a bit better. I do agree, though, with another "Yelper's" judgement on the cheese soup. Yuk. It's so thick, it heaps up on the spoon. I've eaten there a few times since the rebuild and it seems they are trying to change. I hope they try a bit harder this time. A note: No carpeting this time around. It's very noisy. We stopped for brunch on the way home from an overnight trip. Our food came out pretty quickly and was delicious. I was expecting Perkins-quality food and was happy to find it was much better! The decor was not what we expected - at all! Big screen tv, awesome rustic chairs at the tables, frosted glass and stone room dividers - it was nice! I ordered the Two Four You breakfast combo - 2 eggs, 2 pieces of bacon, 2 pieces of sausage, 2 pieces French toast. The only complaint I had was that the bacon was a little over cooked. The sausage was legit sausage - not like freezer links you can warm up in the microwave in 30 seconds. It was all good. Aaron had the Irish skillet - which he gets everywhere we go - it was good as well. Portions were great. We left feeling satisfied, but not like we over did it. Will not be eating at Sir Hobos. I called to ask a couple questions about gluten free options. The phone was answered by a very rude woman who told me "Nope we're not a gluten free restaurant, so we don't have anything gluten free, no." I then asked if they use any thickener in their eggs or flour in their hashbrowns and she gruffly asked me to wait. Then I heard her say to a coworker, "Can you talk to her? I don't understand what she wants." A male voice then asked what I needed and I repeated my question to which he answered "We don't put anything in our eggs to be honest." This interaction was fine, but not super helpful. I was planning to get brunch here today, but will not be going anymore as I feel like the service just over the phone was less than inviting. I understand that many places do not have gluten free options, and that's completely fine. What is not ok is expecting to draw in or retain customers with employees that have attitudes like the one who answered the phone. This place is always packed; however, the increased popularity is working against it. I took my mother, step father, and fellow siblings here for Mother's day. It took fifteen minutes just to get the attention of the waitress. When the food finally arrived three out of five of the orders were completely wrong. The waitress basically just negotiated back and forth with us until we agreed to eat what we were served. On a side note, the owner (older lady) kept staring at our table with a look in her eye that could have gotten her a role in the movie Scarface. I love Sir Hobos! We come here all the time for breakfast. It's never too busy and I have always had great service and great food. After they had a fire, they rebuilt and upgraded the place nicely and it look beautiful inside. The prices aren't bad at all and for the quality of the food, it is DEFINITELY worth it. They serve breakfast and lunch/dinner, but I usually always opt for the breakfast. I hope this business stays around for awhile! read more
