    Tamales Skillet (Pan Handlers)
    George B.

First time here. Little inconspicuous building in Sun Prairie near Dalys. Menu was full of items I plan to return and try. Started my adventure with the Tamales Skillet. Tasty and definitely different from other skillets I have had. We went on a quiet Saturday near closing and service was quick and friendly.

We wanted to go somewhere we haven't been in awhile. We were in the area, we had been there years ago so we figured why not. We went for breakfast on a Sunday morning. We opened the door to packed waiting area and almost second guessed our decision. Quickly the two parties ahead of us were seated and we were next to be seated. ALL of the staff were very polite and friendly. We were initially. Seated at a booth, but it was a bit cramped for our liking , the hostess noticed immediately, and moved us to a table on the other side of the restaurant, which we were quite grateful for. The whole place was VERY busy, the wait staff scooting from table to table with amazing speed! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Even though the place was packed, the noise level was quite tolerable for the Sunday breakfast rush![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My breakfast, I went for the huevos rancheros. Ever since I had them while on vacation while in Arizona, I've been on a quest to find something that compares to the dish I had in Arizona. My take/ notes on their version: 1) The tortillas were crunchy rather than warm and soft, now hear me out, not that it's a bad thing, it was just a different.... Vehicle than the one I was expecting. 2) The menu did say "spicy" tomato sauce, and being a born and raised midwesterner, they were not kidding. It definitely had a.... Kick. I'm not saying it was on fire, but it definitely gave my mouth a tingle. 3) I was really missing some refried beans with it, maaaaybe that's just what I was expecting, but.... Don't get me wrong, I still cleaned my plate like it was my last meal, but there were just a couple things I would have changed if it were a perfect meal.

    Light and Lively breakfast

Eggs, fruit, and bacon were delicious! The sourdough toast wasn't anything special. The service was fast. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Restaurant was clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

    Cinnamon Roll French Toast

I had the Cinnamon Roll French toast, which has been a favorite of mine since I was a kid. It was very good. My companions had the gyros on the specials menu and the pancakes and bacon. They both really enjoyed their meals as well. The server we had was very attentive and pleasant. We will be coming back here for breakfast again!

My expectations were low, but I was pleasantly surprised. The food was fresh and cooked reasonably well. The service is great, but the coffee leaves room for improvement... it just isn't awesome and I look for a really hardy cup of Joe at a dinner.

Being in a strange town.....Sun Prairie, WI thought I should eat a good breakfast. So I found the Country Cafe. Typical coffee shop with locals gathered at the counter swapping stories about farming and hunting. Got seated and ordered the Early Rise breakfast....2 pancakes, 2 eggs, and 2 bacon strips. Had coffee while waiting and the waitress came by three times to refill before my plate came. Pretty good service I think. Food came and it was just right and tasty! Nice place very clean and well lighted with lots of parking. The waitresses were all wearing Green Bay Packers tshirts....go Packers! Reasonable prices too...out the door for $8.50 not bad! I have no problem recommending the Country Cafe!

    Frutti Del Mar

We just discovered this place after the write up in madison.com. Based on the name and former ownership we never would've thought of them for dinner.... And assumed they did not serve alcohol. The pasta was quite good, fish fry decent as well. Service was fantastic and I loved supporting a family run local business. Next time I want to try the pizzas with homemade crust, salad, and lasagna. Not an extensive beer and wine list, but a little something for everyone. Good prices on beer, $3 for a hopalicious. Wine ranged between 7 to $10 for a glass. We will definitely be back.

Steak, eggs and red potatoes with cheddar and onions. Good stuff!!!

It was absolutely appalling. It felt like a Saturday Night Live skit, and she seemed shocked when we decided to leave halfway through ordering. I'll never come back here unless that woman is fired. I think two people could have shared this and sadly, I couldn't finish it all. The pita bread was nice and fluffy and the chicken had a nice taste, although I expected it to maybe have paprika and hummus with it but it did not. The rice was fine - it didn't have too much flavor but was cooked well. Overall, I enjoyed eating here! The restaurant was kind of hot inside. They had fans going but I'm not sure if the air was working or if maybe they don't have air, but it was a little stuffy. Some outdoor seating as well for when it's not so hot outside and the air quality is better (this area was experiencing some smoke from the Canadian wildfires).

Our friends from Chicago were staying at an Airbnb in Sun Prairie, so we made the trek from the west side of Madison to meet up with them. They had called ahead of time, and even though they don't take reservations for groups that large, the staff said that they would make a note of it and have a spot ready to go for us. Between our 3 families, we had many young kids in tow, so I was apprehensive about a long wait. The minute we walked in, however, we told them our name, and they immediately led us to a large table in the back room where we were quickly set up! The vibe of the place is really fun, with exposed brick walls and fun art. One of the coolest things was for the kids - instead of crayons, the menu comes with Wikki Sticks. These kept the kids occupied the entire time! Absolutely genius. Despite our large table, our waitress had no trouble efficiently taking orders and getting us our drinks. I was shocked by how quickly our food came out - everyone was digging into their meals 25-30 minutes after we had arrived at the restaurant! The service was absolutely top notch, and the pizza was phenomenal. I ordered the tomato pie, and it was everything I was hoping for - gobs of delicious homemade red sauce, plenty of cheese, and fresh basil. My boyfriend's family and I came for a Sunday dinner and despite being a larger group, we were able to snag a table immediately. Don't let that fool you though - this place is popular and we seem to have gotten one of the last tables available. When it came to food and drinks, I got a white wine sangria, which I really liked, but it only came with an orange wedge on the side of the rim. I was disappointed because I was expecting fruit in the sangria. It wasn't a big deal, and was an okay drink. When it came to food, Lombardinos had a couple specials, one of which was a wood grilled broccoli and cauliflower appetizer, and their blueberry salad. We also got the calamari and olives. Overall, I really enjoyed all of the appetizers. We then all got our own entrées - unfortunately they were out of the veal entrée for some of our family members. I ended up getting the scallops which I thought were overcooked, and I didn't like the couscous that came with. It was too acidic and the roasted tomatoes that came with the couscous didn't help with the acidity levels. However, my boyfriend did share some of his crab and clam linguine. I really liked that dish, but they were out of clams as well, so it really was only a crab pasta. I hope they are able to offer their full menu in the future, because I think I would come back, but only if they had some of those dishes available.
