We arrived at 1:30. Received menus, ordered coffee. Not having been there before we were perusing the menu. Waiter came and said he needed to take our order as kitchen was closing soon. I ordered French Dip friend ordered California Chicken. Our order arrived about 1:50. There were 3 other tables occupied. At 2 PM two wait staff started sweeping the floor. Another person started putting chairs up on tables. I'm thinking "wait, we're still eating. I don't want dust in my food." 2 tables left. Then the scrub bucket comes out. I felt we were rushed out. Your hours indicate you close at two. Most restaurants will still take orders up until 2 PM and allow customers time to eat comfortably. I have never been rushed out of a restaurant like this . You should advertise "we start cleaning at two so you better be out of here". We were disappointed. read more

An above average diner experience. If you've been to a breakfast/brunch spot before then you know what to expect, but Luke's was very well lit and clean inside with stellar service. I love the new location! I hadn't been to Luke's in years, and I believed they moved a few blocks closer into town, still off of Hwy 51. It is in a strip mall so there is still a parking lot. The new space is bright, sunny, and airy and has a lovely atmosphere. There are booths and tables, as well as a small bar toward the back (I don't think they have a liquor license, so maybe a "counter" would be a better term?). I was told by a local to sit toward the back in the winter because the cold air tends to rush in. Our server was super nice, and for a Thursday afternoon the place was pretty crowded, which I love to see at small local businesses! Also, I love (LOVE) any place that allows me to get weekday breakfast later in the day. I ordered the avocado toast special. I'd been debating between that and the usual breakfast I order everywhere of scrambled eggs, potatoes, and toast. I'm usually underwhelmed by avocado toast out at restaurants as I find them bland and unfilling. But I saw a photo of the Luke's avocado toast and it was calling to me. And oh my word it did not disappoint. I will always order this. It was amazing. It was not just a small plate of a piece of toast with avocado etc on it like you often see overpriced at other breakfast spots. This was two sizeable pieces of avocado toast and each had an egg to your style on top. And then there were hashbrowns in the middle of the two pieces of toast on my plate. For a very reasonable price! I was starving when I came here, and I rarely leave breakfast leftovers. However, I was full. I managed to eat a full avocado toast and the hashbrowns. I had to bring the second avocado toast home. The toast itself was delicious, and actually had lovely flavor to it with the feta and pico. This might be one of my new favorite breakfasts. I came here with a friend who has to eat gluten free, and she said this is one of the few places nearby where she can get gluten free pancakes. The "side" gluten free pancakes that came out were absolutely enormous, too. She tried a bite just to taste it, and said they were delicious. The rest had to go home with her for later as the omelet filled her up. I did like the way they tri-folded their omelets on the plate. I'm not typically an omelet person, and I don't know if I'll be able to pass up the avocado toast next time, but the omelet looked good and I'd consider trying the veggie omelet for sure! Ive been going to Luke's for years and have always had great experiences. Until today. I ordered the sirloin (rare) and eggs for breakfast. When it came, the waitress asked me to check the cook to make sure it was right. The meat looked odd to me but I cut into it. The center looked odd, but it was rare, but not the right kind of rare. She left and I tasted it. It was not beef. And I realized that was why it looked odd and the center cut looked odd. It was pork steak. When the waitress came back she asked how things were and I asked what was on the menu, that I thought I had been given pork steak. She said beef sirloin, but that she would ask. I heard her ask the cook, "Luke". When she came back I was told that no, I had been given beef steak. I regret not taking a picture. Looking at it you could tell it was not beef but pork. Cutting it you could tell. And definitely by tasting. I had been prepared to simply eat it but when Luke doubled down and insisted it was beef I was irritated. I wasn't charged for the meal, but I was given a bill for my fountain drink, $3 plus. I was then offered a complimentary piece of pie, which I turned down. Won't be returning. The lack of respect he has for his customers is shocking and disappointing. read more

Luke's Café was recommended to us by our dentist office after our visit. This was our first time here and we are so glad we took their recommendation. I had the Mediterranean omelette which came with hashbrowns and a side of pancakes. My wife had the Gyro breakfast bowl, also with a side of pancakes. The food was well prepared and came out in a timely manner. What really impressed us was the bright atmosphere and the friendly staff. I'm sure when it first opened, it was phenomenal. I drive past it everyday and finally stopped for breakfast. It's in an old fast food building, and it appears they did some remodeling to make it very homey inside. It's quaint, lots of booths along the outer walls, but some tables in the middle... not a ton of space for larger parties. However, somewhere down the line, none of that was kept up. I found ants on my table, so I checked the floor, it was CAKED with gunk. Booths had rips all over them. Food was good, but I literally never saw my server after that. I had to flag down the person who had just gotten there to try and settle my bill. I've tried it, I'm good. read more

In terms of small mom and pop shop cafes go this place was great! Not the best breakfast joint I have been to or one I would rave about....but as far as good food, great service, quick service, affordability and being close by home.....this is a good suggestion. My family and I came in at 10am and found the place pretty slow. We ordered up and were served within 20 minutes for 7 people party. I got the veggie skillet minus cheese with sourdough toast for $9 which for the portion (smaller than I am used to with San Diego breakfast portions I guess) was worth the money. It tasted amazing and hit the spot I will say that much. Very kind waitstaff and accurate ordering for us all for such a big party always a plus. My sisters signature french toast looked outstanding and the hotcakes most of the group got as a side item smelled soooo good! I don't do any flour products so could not sample those to offer any feedback here sadly, sorry folks! Let your eyes be the judge on that. I have stopped in a couple times to check this place out as it was recommended by co-worker's. I had one of the best hot roast beef sandwiches with mashed potatoes that I have had in 20 years. My only regret is that I ordered the half order...lol The place is small but a friendly staff and very clean dining area made for a nice experience. The food came with a side of pancakes which are delicious, and the perfect size. The hostess was friendly and attentive, always willing to re-fill our coffees. I ordered the food online and was there 3 minutes before the website said my order would be done. My food was all ready which i was impressed about because it was a little busier this morning. I got home not even 5 minutes after i picked up my food and started eating. The chicken tenders were good but the fries were mushy and inedible and the Turtle pancakes were a dry and sticky texture. Luke's has consistently good diner food and it is near where I live. When I visited over the summer and earlier this fall the staff had Covid precautions in place. Not today! Never mind that Dane County has a mask mandate in place for another week. The waitress who took our order and served us was unmasked -- no mask in sight while she took her order, and a fresh surgical mask worn under her chin when she brought our food out, asked how our food was and when she dropped off the receipt. Do you really think I enjoy being breathed on? It was stupid, rude and disrespectful. And I loved how she stood at the counter and ate her food, chewing with her mouth open, facing the diners. I doubt I will return here. In addition to the clueless, maskless waitress, two other staff members struggled to remember that masks work best when they cover the holes in your face that you breathe in and out of. Good food. It's kind of a simple/classic place so I can see why occasionally someone with modern standards is expecting an more chic menu or newer flooring. But for our family we're happy with it. Yuck. First impression: empty parking lot when the brunch spot across the street was packed. Not a good sign. After entering I was put off by the menu; menu was five or six pages long packed full of traditional breakfast items. I wanted something healthy, so I ordered off the delight menu. What I received was a massive omelette topped with a ton of cheese and a huge helping of hash browns. The flavor was mediocre and it didn't seem one bit healthy. Simply put, if you want sub-par, greasy diner food, this is the place for you. If you'd like a meal that is better than something you can make at home, find another spot. Luke's is your typical American style cafe/diner. The food was good, but there wasn't really anything that set this place apart from any other roadside diner.
