I usually write reviews only when I am highly impressed by my experience. Unfortunately, I was not impressed today. We had Easter dinner reservations. We were seated 40 minutes after our reservation time. Explanations for the wait were: our table wasn't ready yet, they needed to clear off a table, earlier tables lingered longer than expected, it was table change over time, they needed two more minutes. Interestingly, we walked past at least three empty, freshly set tables as we were seated that would have accommodated our party. Our table was not fully set when we sat down. The food was mediocre. Prime rib was tough, ham was tasteless, mashed potatoes were good, mac and cheese was okay, salad bar was basic, dessert was okay. Not worth $40 per person. Service was acceptable given the buffet dinner. Appropriate cash tip was left. We have had far better experiences at the Maple Tree in the past. This is why we chose to make reservations for Easter dinner. We were offered no discount or compensation for our trouble. Very disappointed. read more

I have been here twice and service is exceptional. Food is great. I love the salad bar. The baked cod is delicious. I usually order it with the mashed potatoes and gravy and I can't get enough of it, super yummy. It's usually very busy here so we try to come early. I would add that although MTSC has been around since 1950, the interior is quite updated with a much 'newer' feel that some of the olde school places your grandparents might have attended that haven't been remodeled since Mary Tyler Moore was on TV ;) read more

Probably the best Supper Club we have been to. They do not take reservations on the weekend but the staff keeps things moving so the wait isn't too bad. They have a salad bar that seems to be a favorite. I had the fish fry and my daughter had the breasted chicken. Of course Cheese Curds were our choice of appetizer. We always go when I am in Wisconsin and definitely would recommend. read more

They said the wait for a table would be 20 minutes & it ended up being 45. Once seated it took quite a while for the server to even come by with water. Steak was overcooked and way overpriced. Also had to ask multiple times to receive our bread, drinks, etc. Service was friendly but slow. After doing a Yelp search for supper clubs, the Maple Tree popped up in our route so we said what the heck. When we arrived we were met by a very large, very full parking lot. Not a good start. Made it inside and the host said it was only about a 1/2 wait which was quite surprising. Found two seats at the bar and started our night. Bartender was very nice and made really good old fashions. We had a sweet brandy and a whiskey sour old fashions and the were on par with any other big name supper clubs. I was alittle skeptical at first since it really didn't have the old school supper club look, but I soon found out, looks are deceiving! Got our booth in about the 1/2 hour we were told and had an amazing server who greeted us with, "Are you ready for supper yet?" First time ever I'd heard that at a supper club! She was wonderful, funny and took excellent care of us! As for the food, the pictures show everything there is to say. Very good, nice size helping and a very reasonable price. I was excited to try the Maple Tree and went on a Friday for fish. I had 2 other people with me. It was a pleasant atmosphere. I had heard they had a salad bar which was way smaller than we expected. It was so simple few items. They did have 2 soups. We ordered cod,steak sandwich and salmon. The cod was crispy , hash browns were not very warm at all. The steak sandwich was hard and chewy and completely undercooked. Ordered a med well and was more med rare.The salmon was good but hash browns were also cool. I am not sure we would ever go back. The people next to us also were complaining about the French dip and au jus was tasteless and there carrots hard. I don't know how this restaurant is popular. Really $80 for meh food read more

My very first Wisconsin supper club. This place was ab absolute gem, and I'd love to go back. We waited about 15 minutes since we went after the main rush. We had a friendly server that was friendly, quick, and efficient. She was absolutely busting her butt waiting on tables. 2 of us ordered broasted chicken special, and the third ordered ribs and chicken. Mashed potatoes and baked potatoes on the side. The salad bar was great, and it had pickled beets, which are hard to find! I loved the homemade croutons, and the soups were fantastic! We also had pink squirrels and a grasshopper for drinks. I can't believe I'm doing this. If you give a crowded supper club positive reviews, you'll end up waiting longer. But it's worth it. On busy graduation weekend, they accommodated a huge party. We had delicious perfectly cooked prime rib and tender ribs. Supper clubs aren't premium experiences. The bar is affordable. The salad bar is American. The decor is supper clubby. It's a place to eat with family and friends. House made bread is good. Gluten Free can survive on prime rib NO AU JUS. Dime improvements would be welcome: The prime rib prices and daily specials are on the billboard. Their menus are kind of vague. I would have liked a relish tray. They don't do it here. The walleye was fresh and delicious but not a hit due to some missed finishing touches. Maybe not the best place for little kids on busy times. Also, it's noted that they rebuilt it nearly identical to its prior state after the fire. Just enjoy the food and drinks if you like a hearty meal. read more

I've been wanting to come here for so long, and finally made it for a Friday night fish fry! We came early so that we could get a seat reasonably quickly. I think we arrived around 4:30pm and were seated by 5:30pm or so. We grabbed a drink at the bar while we waited for our table. The bar space is large and has a decent amount of seating and standing room. Once seated I ordered the cod fish fry (no brainer) which came with a soup/salad bar (love this, it brings me back to childhood) and potato plus yummy bread. They had a light breading option which was definitely a hit. I enjoyed my food and we had great service. I don't frequently order dessert, but I am a sucker for a brandy alexander if they can make it to a thick consistency requiring a spoon to eat it. And Maple Tree delivered. Our server explained that the thicker it was the lighter they had to go on the alcohol, but that's fine because ice cream is delicious. I cannot wait to go back and order another one. read more

Over the last year we have been trying supper clubs in the general area with some friends and decided to try this place in our "backyard". Our friends had been here before so we made a reservation on a Monday night (not sure it was needed). We did see that in September they will no longer be open on Sundays and Mondays due to the lack of help (no surprise). I understand this place is packed on the weekends. Also no surprise on this Monday the place felt a bit like a nursing home given the crowd - oh wait there was a bus from a senior home here! The bar was pretty full at 5pm on a Monday so we first stopped there for a drink. The brandy old fashion was strong and well made (this is the required test drink at all supper clubs in Wisconsin). We were seated in a booth in the main dining area across from the salad bar. We all got the salad bar. I thought it was somewhat small for a supper club though the cheese spread was very good. Neither of the soups were my thing so I skipped them. One in our group ordered the fried cod and gave it a thumbs up, one the broiled cod and thought it was too plain. The happiest was the person who got the 1/2 broasted chicken who proclaimed it flavorful and moist. I opted for the French dip. Not one of the better ones I have had - the meat was too thick and a bit dry. I did like the fried onions but the au jus had a bit of an Italian spice to it. So not high on my list of supper clubs... on to the next one. read more

Maple Tree is a classic Wisconsin supper club in McFarland. My husband and I went there for the first time last night. The inside isn't anything fancy and doesn't look like they've done much with it over the years. It was really busy but we managed to find a spot at the bar as we waited. The bar has a much better vibe in my opinion. We started off by ordering old Fashioned's while we waited for our table. They were pretty good but just a bit watered down for my taste. The bar tenders were really nice and very efficient! We eventually got a table and were immediately treated to the most delicious, fluffy, homemade bread. The bread was the star of the show! We ended up asking for a second roll because we liked it so much! With our entrees, we got soup and salad from the salad bar. It was very tasty but did make me a bit nervous with COVID. I would have liked it better if the soups and salads were delivered from the kitchen. Our entrees were pretty good as well. I ordered the tenderloin which came with a choice of potato and mushrooms, onion, or horseradish. I choose mashed potatoes and mushrooms. The potatoes were delicious and flavorful. The steak was cooked well and had a great texture, a bit lacking on flavor though. Same thing for the mushrooms. The service from the bar and our waitress was great! The staff was super nice and really efficient with bringing us what we ordered. We were super happy with the service! We will be back! read more

I was hoping to be able to give them a better review, and maybe I'm just being too high maintenance for a supper club, but here it is anyway. Overall - super fun, reasonably priced, and rockin'. The good: cheap drinks, good menu, most of the staff were very friendly. Homemade bread is always a plus! The bad: a long wait time (over an hour), by the time we were seated, they were out of a lot of menu choices, the salad bar was pretty basic, the soups were really salty and thick, my steak was pretty gristly, and the bartenders had a lot of attitude. Would I go back? Probably not, hoping to try out a bunch more supper clubs in the area. This place was good, but doubtfully the best. read more

My husband and I were visiting from out of town. We found out the recent history and reopening of this establishment while sitting at the bar after a lengthy quote for dining. However, we were not disappointed and our wait wasn't as long as first quoted. Drinks were beyond fairly priced and made deliciously. Salad bar was spot on and food was great! I got the fish fry with hash browns and my husband got the prime rib. He's a picky prime rib guy, and he was in meat heaven. Our server Jolene was attentive. The owner Jason (as pointed out by a regular) was wearing many hats that evening from greeter, barback, clearing tables; which I think says a lot about the integrity of a great establishment. Wow!!! I am soooooo impressed with their friendly Nd prompt service, excellent food, generous portions, and fair prices. They are a MUST stop if you are anywhere near Stoughton or east side Madison. It's worth the drive. They are clean, family friendly and have an excellent waitstaff that helps each other out like family business. Wanted to update my review to reflect the current times! They are doing a stellar job at sanitizing and distancing the tables in the dining area. You really feel like you are twenty feet from the next table! They don't have their salad bar right now but they will bring whatever you'd like to the table. Cheese and crackers, the bread, and you still get a choice of soup AND salad. The bar area isn't distanced at all, so if there is a wait, have them call you when your table is ready and you can always wait in your car. Great options for everyone during this crazy time! Almost hate to give this place the review it deserves because it might get too crowded! Excellent food - best prime rib and burgers (yes, burgers) in the area. (And there are some great contenders.). This place has been our go to breakfast for years. A family hot spot for the Mother's Day brunch since I was a kid. And an all around staple to McFarland life. Hence, it's so staple it's very busy. We get there for breakfast between 8:30-9:00am. If we can't make it by then we usually just count it out. The wait could be long, it might not be. It's very popular, it's very well priced and the bar it filled upon opening at 8:30. Today we just went for breakfast. Parking: there's a huge parking lot with multiple entrances and exits. Bathrooms: They have a newly renovated multi stall bathroom. It is located right off the kitchen, so walk carefully when you exit. Seating: We arrived at 8:30, right when they supposedly opened for breakfast, but people had been going in for a few minutes. When we approached the front counter a nice girl asked us if we wanted a booth or table. They have super cozy booths, very classic. And the tables are in the room with lots of windows looking at the parking lot/camping area. They do have an outdoor seating area with umbrellas and lights. Food: This place has amazing breakfast, sadly we checked the FB for Maple Tree. And they're not opening Sundays and Mondays. I think Sundays were the days they did breakfast/brunch. If not, it's the only day I ever make it. I've always stood with the petite breakfast, 10/10. If you have a small appetite in the AM this is a great option. Today I added on some bacon because I didn't get any from the whole big that my fiancé usually swears by. The sourdough toast at Maple Tree is 100/10. I love this toast. It's perfect. Sometimes it does come out a little charred. But even then it's good. Don't know how, but I still can dip my egg in it, and thing "amazing." American fries over hash browns. Today he got the chicken fried steak. He says "this is the best one out there" 11/10, it is crunchy. Not too thin or thick. Perfect amount of gravy IMO, Chris thought there was boarder line too much. He's crazy. We also got a side of pancakes. I'm not super into pancakes, or sweet food for breakfast. But Chris loves them. Today he thought they had a cornbread taste. Drink: Amazing coffee, you get an entire carafe. Hands down the best coffee around Madison. All in all, this place is my favorite for family get togethers, and breakfast. They have great prices. We got $40 worth of food for $20. The server Emily was the sweetest and very attentive. Coffee was worth a visit by itself. And I love supporting my hometown. read more

The cook knows how to do meat well. In the past I had the pot roast which was outstanding! Last night got the1/2 rack of St Louis style back ribs which were very moist and tender. Served with BBQ sauce on top. The baked potato was very moist. I always enjoy the salad bar because is more variety than the normal "house salad" served in so many restaurants. One thing makes me sad. The pot roast was a Monday night special. Since they are no longer open on Mondays it is no longer on the menu. I really wish they would add it back by on the menu read more

I can't say enough amazing things about this Supper Club. They welcomed this McFarland transplant as one of their own. The owners know me by name and treat us like family when we are there. But that's how they treat everyone. Their prime rib is amazing. Great flavor and always a larger than what the menu says cut. Their perch is great, lightly breaded and flavorful. Their cod is great, only had it fried, but nice and flaky. The salad bar is great, always plenty for everyone. Their fresh warm bread is great. Servers are always busy but always on it. Since moving to Wisconsin, we measure every supper club we go to, to Maple Tree. No one can beat them so far, and we've hit quite a few. I do not know what is going on since they re-opened after the fire but its not good. Lets start with the quality of the prime rib 3/4 of our last visits the prime rib has been dry and not tender. This last time I ordered it medium rare and it was served mooing. Rare as rare can be. Disgusting. The mature woman who I think is supposed to be a hostess. She needs more training and more personality. She will turn and walk away, or look right at you before she will help you. She should also dress her age, at times she has looked ridiculous. The two young men who own the place, have a lot to learn. I get they are young but their social skills are not the best either. I miss the former owner. He knew what he was doing. Yes I complained to them about the quality of food, they did not much care. I highly reecommend the supper club in Portage, Cimaroli's , delicious every time, well worth the money and the drive. read more
