Whipped garlic mashed potatoes
Angela S.

A fancier downtown restaurant with coat check and lots of comfortable seating. Great steaks, cooked to near perfection. Comes with a starch side. Okay cocktails and large selection of liquors and wines (on the pricey side). Good service. It was a Thursday night and wasn't busy. Server was a bit slow but steaks came out fast after our order was placed.

Warm Apple Crisp

We ordered the 14 oz sirloin with sides of baked potato and garlic mashed potatoes. The sirloin was cooked perfectly and the Demi glaze on top was flavorful, I wish there was more! The garlic mashed potatoes were my favorite, super creamy and garlicky. The Mac & cheese really lacked flavor and could use a sharper cheese or more seasoning (even just more salt would've helped). The warm apple crisp was absolutely delicious. Service was amazing (as always) and the inside was very romantic, especially perfect on a snowy night!

10 to12 oz fries hand- cut- wow!! And delicious

| Delmonico's Steakhouse - Madison, WI Had a great evening at Delmonico's Steakhouse in Madison! Kicked things off with a handcrafted strawberry martini that was absolutely amazing -- made just for me, and I really appreciate that personal touch. For dinner, I went with the 16oz Ribeye, perfectly cooked and full of flavor. I paired it with their famous garlic mashed potatoes -- creamy, garlicky, and everything you'd want in a classic side. I also ordered the hand-cut fries, which were listed as 7oz, but I swear it was closer to 10-12oz. No complaints there -- they were crispy, seasoned just right, and super satisfying. The dining room had that classic white tablecloth steakhouse vibe, and the whole place carried a stylish, upscale "new city" energy that made the experience feel special without being over the top. If you're in Madison and craving steak, definitely check this place out. Solid 4 stars all around -- well done, Delmonico's! -- TheFoodie99

Had never been here considering there are a few other great steakhouses near by, but thought it was ok after finally trying it. The tuna and steak cuts were decent, for the price they were not super flavorful and tuna was a little over seared because it was not the right texture. The drinks were the highlight of the night, really well made. For sides, the mac and cheese was on the dry side if you like that, but the mashed potatoes were tasty and well seasoned. Service was fairly slow, but considering we had a large party on a busy Friday night it was fine. Though it still felt a bit impersonal and that we were ignored since the gratuity was added automatically. I did like the decor and ambiance a lot!

We went to their new happy hour (4-6pm Tuesday-Sunday) and everything was amazing! We didn't have reservations but it wasn't a problem. The service here is always amazing and is one of my favorite parts about dining here. The food was all amazing. The croquettes were my favorite. The happy hour menu is very decently priced with the select martinis being half off. We went around 4:30 on Sunday and it was very quiet and nice in the bar area.

The 14 ounce sirloin, bottom cut

This is on a nice corner - large windows allow a view inside, which features nice lighting accents, a beautiful bar, and white tablecloth service. We had a reservation, and when we arrived we were promptly seated at a nice table. A server arrived, introduced herself, and provided water to the table. A few moments later, the waiter arrived, introduced himself and provided menus and a wine list. Shortly after that, a loaf of bread arrived - 6 slices, with nicely salted butter. It was a nice loaf, with a crispy crust that went well with the salted butter. Some things to consider: the sides are "family" size. We all ordered their hash browns, but honestly, it was so large we all took most of it home. To start with, my wife and I split a Caesar salad, which had white anchovies which was quite good. The croutons were good, and the parmesan cheese on the top was abundant. For entrees, I selected their 14 ounce Sirloin, which was a bottom cut, medium rare. My wife selected their Surf & Turf which had a filet and two scallops, while my son had their scallop dinner. My sirloin was cooked properly, seasoned properly, and was delicious. While it is a tougher cut than a tenderloin, it was so flavorful that it was a delight. My wife enjoyed her Surf & Turf, and my son enjoyed his scallops. One thing we all noted - the hash browns (my wife and son got the standard, I tried the loaded) were too salty. My wife noted "I really like salt, and these are too salty." We ordered a nice bottle of wine - corkage seemed a bit above market rate at 4 to 5 times street values, but you get really good service here. The wine glassware was very nice. I wish we could have tried dessert, but unfortunately, the hash browns were too filling. So this place has ambience, it has excellent service, and excellent food. What's not to like?

Goat Cheese Salad

We had a lovely dining experience at Johnny's last night with outstanding service from the most charming server, Emily, and outstanding drinks and filling dinners. She was the most knowledgeable server with the sharpest and fastest responses to questions -- what a pro. We asked Emily for her recommendations and I ordered all of them, from drinks to dinner. She did not steer me wrong! The prime rib was incredible, although there was a decent 1/4 of the piece that was fat. Still, the garlic mashed potatoes were delicious and the goat cheese salad upgrade she recommended was perhaps the best salad I've ever eaten. We also had incredible martinis, like, outstanding and easy to throw back. If you like sweet cocktails, get the Simple Peach and enjoy yourself. For dessert, we had the turtle cheesecake and I don't always love cheesecake, but that piece was incredible and the caramel was not overwhelming as it usually is. Would we go back? Absolutely. Will we ask for Emily? Every time. Great night out!

Best filet in town.

Best steakhouse in town paired with the best bartenders. Just dropped in for their new happy hour that's really nice. Would recommend!

Excellent service, delicious fresh bread clean & classy decor (yacht feeling) with good music in the background. Steaks are superb, scallops fresh & perfectly cooked & ahi tuna perfect texture and wonderful flavors. The bone broth appetizer was an unexpected delight. The garlic mashed potatoes missed the mark, would have like them a little thicker with some texture also would like them hot not warm. Blueberry lemonade was fresh & really hit the spot!

Steaks and loaded hash browns.

I came here with a party of four and we all ordered steaks off of the menu. A couple of aged Ribeyes and a couple of sirloins. All were perfectly done as ordered. We shared a couple of sides along with the loaded hash browns. All in all the food was amazing along with an incredible server that made great recommendations off of the menu. If you're looking for an amazing steak Johnny Delmonico's is the place to go when in Madison.

The communication between us and the waitress contained many requests to repeat ourselves. It was bad. They provided us with a small loaf of uncut bread (which, of course, sent crumbs all over the table) with enough butter for half a piece. They were happy to bring more but we had to ask. Apparently, butter is at a premium at the Tornado room. We also received a glass (?) of raw vegetables with no accompaniment. I like vegetables as much as the next guy, but it would be nice to provide some kind of dip. Raw radish? My wife ordered a $13.50 drink that came in a small water glass. Enough said. I ordered a New York Strip (medium rare), steak fries and a wedge salad. The steak was fine, not great. The problem was that it was 2 inches thick. Now I know that people ohhh and ahhh over a thick cut of meat, but it is impossible to cook it right. The edges were fine but the center was as raw as if it just came out of the field. There are only 2 ways to cook a 2-inch steak to someone's liking, raw and well done. Everything else is a disappointment. The flavor was good but nothing special. You can get the same taste in most basic restaurants. The steak fries were floppy and luke warm. I HATE a warm fry. If you sell fries, they need to be crisp and hot or don't bother. My wedge salad was not a wedge salad. It was a chunk of iceburg (good) with roquefort (fine), no bacon (WHAT?), cucumber, tomato slices, croutons, onions, and black olive (again, what? to all of it). This was a garden salad without the lettuce cut up. Don't call it a wedge salad. It's not. My wife had the shrimp, asparagus and french onion soup. The soup was good. Good flavor and very fresh. The asparagus was not. You know when you get a piece of asparagus and start to eat at the tip and work your way down. It's really good at the top but there is a point where it gets stringy and you give up on it. These were like that. This is a sigh of low-quality asparagus. For $1.50 per spear, stringy should be found nowhere in the description. What was edible was good. The shrimp was really good. The spices they used were very tasty. The only complaint I have would be the size. They were smaller than I would have expected from what is supposed to be a high-end steak house. All-in-all, save your money. If you want to spend $50 on a steak, there are lots of places with better atmosphere and food.

The poblano cream is very mild. I would have liked a little more heat, a little more of the pickled onions, and a little more brisket. My husband got the duck pot pie and was only willing to share one bite. He was very happy with his choice. The duck was delicious. A friend enjoyed the Potato & Cheddar Soup with Fried Chicken. The crispiness of the fried chicken was a perfect contrast to the soup which is a delicious sauce to dip each bite of crispy chicken. The only feedback is to serve this with a spoon, so people can enjoy every bite of the soup. They have a great cocktail menu. Service was great. Our server was kind and attentive. Her knowledge of the menu (we needed to some help with gluten free selections) thoughtful explanations, and perfectly paced service made the entire evening feel effortless. Then came the roasted beets with crème fraîche and toasted hazelnuts, easily one of the standouts of the night. Unbelievably good. We shared two entrées: a medley of mushrooms over cheesy polenta, which was rich, comforting, and delicious, and expertly cooked cod with a creamy sauce that somehow felt both light and decadent. A small house salad rounded out the meal, and the cocktails were refined and every bit as impressive. I cannot wait to come back.
