    Blistered tomato crostini w burrata
    Daniela K.

Had a great dinner at 107 State last night. We started off with cocktails and my espresso martini was delicious. Perfect. Appetizer was a blistered tomato crostini with burrata and was lovely. Layered flavor, with the creaminess of burrata and nice crunch of crostini. We shared a pasta dish with a veal ragu, and it was EVERYTHING. Nuanced flavors and the veal was very tender. We had a second cocktail and my dirty martini was exactly as ordered. Would definitely recommend for thoughtful Italian, to get your burger fix, or just to have a nice craft cocktail!

Food was good. Service was abysmal. First, the other couple with us ordered two beers but were served a beer and a half because they ran out. They were told that they would not have to pay full price for the half a beer. (Thanks?) Turns out, the beer was flat and undrinkable. They ordered something else and were then told the first ones would be comped. (Again...thanks? For not making us pay for a beer you shouldn't have brought us in the first place?) Dinner was decent. I had pappardelle with mushrooms. It was tasty. My husband liked his chicken marsala. I did also really, really enjoy my drink "The Secret Garden" with gin and rhubarb. Kudos to the bartender who came up with that one. The real trouble began when it was time for the bill. We asked the server to split the bill evenly between us and the other couple, which apparently was something he did not understood. He came back with two itemized bills where he attempted to evenly sort the items by cost, rather than just split the total cost. And, our bills only included the drinks and the appetizers, no entrees. We could have paid and walked out, but, we would never do that. We showed the server the mistake, they took the bills and came back like twenty minutes later still without the checks because they "couldn't remember what entrees everyone had." Again, we asked for them to please just split the total evenly (we do this all time at restaurants and have never once had a server not understand the request) and finally we ended up with two bills for $118 each. We paid and left. About two weeks later, I realized that not only had our card been charged for both the $118s, both we and the other couple were also charged the original mistake bill! So we paid twice for the appetizers and drinks, and our friends had to pay us the $118 portion of the bill that was never charged to their card. It was kind of a disaster. I realize that we should have probably gone down to the restaurant to sort it all out, but we don't live close by, a few weeks had passed, and we just wanted to be done with it all. Overall, this would have likely been a four-star review for good food and drinks, but their service needs a lot of work.

Stopped by for dinner on a Sunday night with my friend and her dog as they had patio seating. Service was great, they brought out some water for her dog as well. We got the crispy pork ribs with pistachio pesto, pappardelle, and the steak frites. The pistachio pesto was very tasty and ribs were good. The pasta was cooked well, however, the sauce felt very heavy. The steak was just okay but the fries were very good! Would go back again to try more of their menu.

I'm going to try and not come off too salty throughout this review... We came here on a Saturday night without a reservation, as we had snagged tickets to an Overture show at the last minute. As expected, it was difficult to find a spot for dinner downtown but 107 State had bar seating available with the full menu available. So, we decided to sit. The ambience here is cozy, we came in the summer but I would imagine this place is more well-suited for snowy winter nights. Jazz music playing over the speakers and low lighting creates a quasi-romantic setting. My date and I ordered a couple glasses of wine and a plate of pasta each... here's where things took a sharp turn for the worse. The dishes were so incredibly salty that they were nearly inedible. It's a shame, as the pasta and shrimp were both cooked well. Unfortunately, all other flavors were lost is the SALT and an immense amount of garlic. Listen, I'm a #garlicgirl but this scampi was filled with cooked and raw garlic. I'm writing this review a full 18 hours later, after brushing my teeth twice and eating multiple other meals, and my breath is still recuperating. We let our waitress know about the salt and (politely) suggested the kitchen staff be made aware. She was apologetic, as she saw that we could not finish the Penne specifically. The service was as good as it could have been considering our bar seating. I don't think I'll try this place again, but I will make a point to make reservations somewhere next time we head to Madison.

Stopped by this location for a celebratory dinner for a friend. The blackberry Bellini was refreshing and crisp. The goat cheese mushroom crostini with balsamic glaze was the perfect way to start the meal. Our server was very helpful with suggestions. I had the penne vodka burrata meal that was suggested by our lovely server, Carly (sp?). I ate so quickly, you would've thought I inhaled it. The flavor was exactly what I wanted. My husband had the steak and frites which was customized for him since he has a dairy allergy. He thoroughly enjoyed his meal. We had another event we were heading to so we didn't have dessert. Hoping to return to see what is on the dessert menu.

I like this downtown restaurant. On State St, about a block from the Capitol Square. I loved the dark atmosphere. Cool jazz music playing. Besides not being very loud in there, the booths help make it easy to have a conversation. The rough brick wall also helps to break up any noise. Our server was very friendly and the timing of her check-ins was good. First off, I liked the bread. Besides being complementary, each piece was crunchy on one side and warm & buttery on the other. The roasted mushroom crostini was a great way to start the meals. It was crunchy chewy, with the expected sweetness from the cheese and glaze. My salmon crunchy outside and soft moist inside. The garlic lemon sauce was a great added flavor. The shrimp scampi also tasted great, although a bit too heavy on the garlic. The Bliss Burger was a tasty burger dripping with juicy goodness. The accompanying fries tasted just McDonald's fries, but a little less salty. The meat in the Ziti with Ragu was a nice combo of hearty meat with soft tender tasty ziti. The waitress passed by with plates of desserts that looked real good, but we were just too full. ....Next time. Overall, I really liked this upscale city tavern.

Great job overall with the service and food provided here. The charcuterie plate with the fresh burrata was just awesome. The portions of pasta were fantastic!!! Could not finish it all. And the vibe is unique and fun. Really liked the Gemelli with green beans. Would like to try a burger next time.

Service was excellent! Food was good too. Had 2 pasta dishes and the pork chop. Perfect for dinner before a show at The Orpheum.

It's dinner time and I'm hungry for steak and wings, so that's what brought me here. When I entered, I asked if I could be seated. The hostess asked me if I had a reservation and I said no, the she said, "so, you're a walk in?" Awkward. They asked if I could sit at the bar and I was totally fine with it. Ben was my bartender/waiter. He was very nice. I ordered a beer and asked what reposado tequila he had. He wasn't sure what reposado was and checked his collection of tequila and was told q that they don't carry any reposado. Sad face. Hakuna matata. I ordered the hangar steak and frites and an order of wings. All the food came out at once, so I immediately go in for the wings. Hot!! I couldn't wait for the wings to cool down so I just quickly ate them. The hangar steak was hard to eat. The meat was very tough. I ate about 1/3 of the steak-it wasn't enjoyable. Frites we're frites. I like the garlic and Parmesan they put on top. The vibe of the place was ok, I loved the music they were playing. I found it funny to hear the chef hit a bell then yell out what table numbers order was ready. It's comical really when it disrupts the atmosphere of the restaurant. Hopefully, they might discover a better system I may come back for the wings again but not the steak, it wasn't pleasant. The service seems adequate, Ben did fine. If you come to this place, I hope you have an even better experience. Njoy!

Some of our party got the French toast which looked amazing and I'll probably try next time-- peaches and pecans with it! A few of them ordered bacon on the side too and it came with plenty of it, 3-4 long strips. Cannoli was the pastry I chose and it was the perfect sweet treat.
