Food is always fantastic, service is wonderful! I would give it 5/5 but it's a bit out of my price range for the amount of food/not really worth the price.
Really nice / classy environment. Good food and cocktails. I liked the martini and the parsnip cake. And the relish tray was pretty awesome. I got the duck tortellini which came in a consumme. This was good but not fantastic -- the broth and filling were very similar in flavor and a bit one note. The other people I was with loved their food especially the steak And the scallop chowder. Service was very attentive and proactive. Honestly service was the highlight pretty much flawless.
If you're looking for a dinner spot in Madison where the vibes are on point and the food actually lives up to it--The Harvey House is it. The space is beautiful, the bar is stunning, and the whole place feels like a special-occasion kind of night (even if it's just because you're hungry). My dish was superb, but the French onion soup might be the best I've ever had. Instead of being super thick and heavy, it was rich, creamy, and loaded with Wisconsin cheese in the best way. Absolute must-order. If you're planning a Madison trip or a nice dinner out, put this one high on your list.
We've wanted to get to the Harvey House for some time. We finally made it this evening with another couple who have been there several times before. The menu is not overwhelming, and among the four of us we ordered well over half the entree menu. I really enjoyed the walleye. Walleye can be hit or miss and thins was a hit. Also ordered were the rigatoni and the pierogi. Everything was on point. We also ordered a side of the squash which was quite nice. We started with the relish tray and several cocktails. I was impressed with the whisky sour... properly made with egg whites and dotted with bitters. We also had a sampling of the desserts. I'd say the parsnip cake was overall the winner here. The service was outstanding. I'd say it was by far the best table service I've had in the Madison area in a long time.
While I continue to enjoy and recommend the Harvey House there were a couple disappointments last visit. What was once a complete joy to order and something every one looked forward to, the relish tray, has been significantly downgraded. Instead of a variety of perfectly blanched vegetables, deviled eggs, house made crackers, the green goddess dressing we got red and orange pickled beets, some nice sliced cucumber pickle, 4 chunks of summer sausage, the whitefish spread, a garlicky onion dip and skinny breadsticks. We always start with the martini service and the relish tray. Service at Harvey House has always been superior and was last visit. I ordered the Atlantic Roast Cod which was beautifully seared, tender, juicy and flavorful - everything on the plate was delicious. My friend ordered the Ricotta Raviolini which is served as one sheet of what would have been tiny ravioli if they had been cut into individual pasta. It was served with beautifully prepared asparagus and fresh peas in a delightful sauce. But the raviolini were ordinary. The Pavlova was perfection and because it was my friend's b'day we were given a Brandy Alexander to share. We'll definitely be back. Thanks Tara and crew for the attentive, friendly service and the kitchen for some beautiful dishes.
At The Harvey House, you don't just pay for the outstanding food. You pay for the experience. Our server Sebastian took wonderful care of us and made sure we could celebrate our 5 year anniversary in the perfect way. He even treated us to complimentary prosecco and sticky coconut rice for desert. Here's what we ordered: Washington Punch Rum Cocktail - delicious and not too sweet. Loved the cherry garnish! Slow Cooked Salmon - Had super crispy skin, a healthy portion served with a delightful savory sauce and a side of cooked veggies Garlic shrimp starter with Brioche bread: flavorful and plenty of bread to dip in the garlic sauce French onion soup: Creamy, delectable, a perfect warm side to the rest of our food The staff catered to our every need and desire, and you can tell that they undergo significant training to fully understand the menu and the company culture. 10/10 would return for another fancy dinner or celebration!
What a great place! Friendly staff and excellent food! We sat upstairs at the bar which was alot of fun. The Bartender was attentive and fun! Loved the walleye and French onion soup ! I'll be back as soon as possible!
A friend recommend Harvey House while we were in town for our 7 year anniversary from Chicago and we were blown away! The Harvey House has won our hearts and taste bud allegiance for all future visits! First of all, the ambiance is exquisite pulling in the historic rail road vibe and classic decor with an upscale contemporary supper club ethos. Second of all, we had the most fabulous server: Veronica. She took great care of us and ensured that we had an excellent dinning experience and 7-year anniversary celebration! Thanks Veronica! Third, and most importantly, every dish and drink was absolutely delectable. Starting with the house roll, to the Brussel sprouts, and the garlic shrimp, our appetizer selection was phenomenal. My husband got the Foggy Geezer IPA from Three Floyds and I got a dirty gin martini. Yum! For our anniversary, they surprised us with complimentary champagne. It was so yummy and a truly generous touch. Thank you! For the main courses we decided to split the truffle Mac and cheese and the superior walleye with spaetzle. Both were incredibly delicious in very different ways. The walleye was local, fresh, and yummy! The truffle Mac and cheese was decadent and bursting with flavor. We would do the same again in the future! We went all out for dessert! We got espresso martini's (yum!!) and the dark chocolate crème Brule. Yum yum yum!!! And to further spoil us, they gave us the Apple pavlova with a candle to celebrate our 7 years of marriage! Needless to say we walked away overjoyed, feeling loved, and pleasantly plump! Thank you for an incredible dining experience and anniversary celebration, Harvey House! We look forward to returning the next time we are in town!
Giving the Harvey House 4.5 stars. We came here for post-dinner cocktails and dessert at the recommendation of our friends who are locals. The bar was full but we were sat at a small table right next to the hostess stand (kind of a weird spot to have a table IMO). Interior decor is cool and classy. Our server was very nice and gave us some good recs. My fiancé had an Old Fashioned, I had a Hotel Washington Punch, and we shared the Banana Foster Pavlova which was to die for. The next time we come here we'll definitely have dinner, as the entree options looked enticing. This is not a fault of the restaurant or staff but my fiancé and I felt there was something offputting (and dare I say, judgmental) about the crowd/vibe on the night we visited. It felt like everyone was staring at us. Not sure if it was the way we were dressed (there were others dressed more casually) or if we just gave off visitor vibes, but it definitely felt weird. *shrugs*
Several people suggested that we visit The Harvey House while in Madison, and I'm glad they did! The ambience is sleek and modern. We were greeted right away and Chad took great care of us. It was my husband's birthday and we felt very special the entire visit. Shrimp cocktail was great, but the relish tray was something special. Highly recommend for a fun supper club experience. Husband ordered the chicken with morels and I ordered the salmon. Both entrees were fresh and delicious. Warm bread with whipped butter was a nice touch. Drinks were well made. We were given after dinner drinks for free which was very kind. Then we were given 2 (almost 3) free desserts by accident, which made us laugh and we definitely accepted them and appreciated them. We will tell all of our friends and family to visit soon! Enjoy!

My friend scored a last minute dinner reservation while I was visiting, and I'm glad she did! We came for dinner with a group of 4 on a Sunday. The restaurant was beautiful and the service was amazing. I appreciated that our waitress was very knowledgeable about the dishes on the menu and what ingredients they contained, which is perfect for anyone with allergies or dietary restrictions (like myself). We were seated near the open kitchen which also added to the dining experience. I tried: - Scallop toast - I really enjoyed this. It was mild, not fishy tasting at all, and the brioche was toasted very well. I'm not a huge seafood person aside from sushi and poke, and had never had scallops before, so I was not expecting to like it as much as I did. - Ricotta Raviolini - I was not a huge fan of this, which was especially disappoint since it was my main entree / the most expensive on this list. It was essentially a folded sheet of pasta with a tiny bit of ricotta, topped with barely cooked asparagus and snap peas. The menu also lists lemon infused olive oil, but I didn't taste that at all. The parts of the raviolini with a good amount of ricotta were delicious, but the dish overall was bland and tasted like raw asparagus and peas. My friends also tried it and none of them liked it either. - Baked Potato with The Works - super simple and perfectly executed. It comes with bacon, which we got on the side since I don't eat red meat. Potato was fluffy and salted perfectly, with a good amount of other toppings. My friends who do eat bacon said it tasted more like ham than bacon, and they actually preferred the potato without it. - Dark Chocolate Bread Pudding - Loved it. I love bread pudding and chocolate pudding, but never thought to combine the two. It was delicious - soft, not super sweet, and great portion size. I would recommend sharing, it's pretty rich which can be overwhelming at a certain point. - Flightless Bird mocktail - this was one of the best mocktails I've tried. It has a black tea base but tasted more like a regular cocktail without the alcohol burn rather than tea. Everyone at the table enjoyed trying it too. Despite the raviolini being a miss, the rest of the food, service, and ambiance made this such a wonderful dining experience that I can't wait to come back and try more. read more
The Harvey House was a lovely spot for a special occasion. Beautiful space with excellent service. All the waitstaff were very attentive and helpful. My favorite dishes were the French onion soup and the walleye with spatzle. The soup was served in a cute teacup poured table side. They split the soups for us which was a nice touch. Walleye was cooked perfectly and had a nice crispy crust. Otherwise, the other dishes we got were alright. The kielbasa kinda tasted like a ham and cheese hot pocket. read more

This place is super cute inside. There is upstairs seating as well. The food was decent. We split the relish appetizer and the salmon entree was only ok. The Paloma tasted kind of bland. I give the decor and service five stars but food is only four stars. This place books up far in advance so make reservations early, especially during Badger football weekends. I personally thought this place was over hyped but it's worth trying if in town. read more

We traveled in from Chicago, and what was our first ever trip to Madison was made absolutely perfect by an evening at The Harvey House, a schmaltzy, classy testament to Wisconsin supper clubs of old, built into an historic train station! Our server, Kennedy, was simply outstanding: super informative and accommodating while being down-to-earth and personable. The ambience was warm and inviting, plush and quite romantic. We sat in the house's best seats: a spacious booth facing the kitchen, allowing us a behind-the-scenes glimpse as we watched an incredibly talented room of chefs firing dishes left and right, elevating an already cool experience. And the food was absolutely incredible! We ordered the Superior Walleye- a Must if you've never been... the creamy horseradish sabayon they serve it with was an inspired choice. So rich and lovely. And then we also ordered the Herb Roasted Chicken. I never think restaurant chicken will be all that special, but I was wrong this time; it was top notch and sooooo decadently delicious. Couldn't recommend either dish more highly. We were there celebrating an anniversary and also our recent engagement, so they trotted out champagne in addition to the martinis we ordered - ALL of which were expertly crafted (and the martinis were served in generous portions in refill glasses that were transferred by our server into fresh chilled glasses when our first drink got low). And we even received complimentary digestif sipping shots after it was all a memory. We even got a visit from the GM who congratulated us and thanked us for dropping in, making us feel VERY special indeed. All in all, we had a lovely time, and will recommend this stop to literally every person who ever asks for dinner spots in Madison. read more
What an amazing dining experience! Highly recommend! Aside from some access/parking issues, we couldn't have had a better dinner and a better experience. We made reservations rather last minute and so sat at the upstairs bar. Usually eating a meal at the bar can be a lesser experience, but I think our experience was greatly enhanced by sitting at the bar. First, it was a bar for six, so it was small and intimate. Second, the bartender was attentive, informative, conversational, fun, and truly improving the dining experience. All that was great, but what truly impressed was the food. My wife and I travel all over the world and get the opportunity to dine in some pretty incredible restaurants. Our meal at The Harvey House was inventive, delicious, and truly extraordinary. Thanks to our bartender (I wish I could recall his name, it was his second night at the upstairs bar) and to the chef and kitchen staff for a truly incredible dinner. Afterward, we were given a private tour of the group space in the restaurant's antique dining train car by the restaurant manager. Very generous of their time! read more

The Harvey House gives upscale supper club a new meaning. It's a cozy atmosphere with top notch food. The kale Caesar was fantastic- perfectly dressed with buttery croutons. The hand cut rigatoni was worth every penny. We finished off the meal with a dessert cocktail. The manager, Emily, checked in on us twice throughout the meal and was very friendly and welcoming. read more

Stopped in for dinner and sat at the bar where Stu took care of me. Enjoyed a red corn old fashioned. Stu helped me make phenomenal selections to the menu, especially the turtle soup, which is served with a grand cru cheese mousse and was easily the best turtle soup I've ever enjoyed. The walleye was great, as was the strawberry pavlova. Truly enjoyed my meal, Stu's service, and even having non-street parking in the downtown Madison area. read more
We had a group dinner at Harvey House, and they really put out the stops for our group. First we had a private room upstairs, despite away from the open kitchen (my favorite part), it was very nice to have that quiet space. Upon entering the private room, the tables were already set up with our apps, pickled veggies, shrimp cocktail and beets salad. Nicely presented with dishes at each end of the table. Loved the shrimp cocktail and beets salad. I did not enjoy the pickled veggies, perhaps I picked the wrong veggie but the pickles were so strong, I could've done without trying this. Our pre-fixe menu was nicely selected, we were able to get a selected tasting of the menu, which I really liked! We had an option of salad (I selected the kale salad) and a selection of 4 different mains, for which I selected the walleye as this is a local dish. My walleye was delicious and perfectly cooked, it had a layer of cracker on top, which changed the dynamic of the texture. I also opted instead of the spatzle, for a side of veggies and the kitchen changed it to cauliflower (which I was so thrilled about). The desserts were also an option, I selected the lemon pudding, I sadly did not care too much for this dessert, I selected the least sweet option. Also want to mention our waiter Neil was so attentive, I asked for mocktails and he made me two different very delicious drinks! Overall, service was great, our pre-fixe menu gave me a wonderful tasting of what Harvey House had to offer. Highly recommend! read more
Amazing, unique dishes as always. Shaved vegetable salad and loaded baked potato were highlights. Proteins were perfectly cooked. Salmon was so buttery and plated beautifully. The wonderful staff always make Harvey house so much more special than a dinner. We had have never sat upstairs before, but absolutely loved the vibe there. There is another beautiful bar at the end of the dining space The bathroom is on the left of the bar. read more

Wow this place is a real find. We were seated right away. The service was amazing. The wine list is one of the best I've seen. Excellent selection by the glass. We started with the chicken liver mousse. It comes in a nice jar with toasted brioche strips and small amount of mixed greens. OMG it's quite good. Not as rich as pate but a lighter version. They also brought a nice bun with flakes of sea salt and sweet butter. Yum! We shared the superior walleye. It's served with a topping of caraway crust. It was the best walleye, I've ever had. It was unbelievable. It's served with a horse radish sabayon. what a genius combo. We ended it with the strawberry pavlova. A huge portion size lots of rich whipped cream. The service is attentive and informed. Gorgeous venue. The only negative was the seating. largely hard wooden chairs or benches. Almost seemed like they don't want you to sit there too long. read more
I enjoy Harvey House, but it's not my all time favorite spot. The 2 other times I've been here would be 3 stars since my food was never warm...but this visit was a 4! The burger was INCREDIBLE. If I could eat this every week for the rest of my life, I'd be happy. The sizzling shrimp de jonghe was just ok. The shrimp was a bit chewy and I don't think I would order it again. Our server at the bar was lovely and I love the supper club vibes of the restaurant. It's a great place for a bar dinner, but there's other higher end spots in town I would go for a sit down meal. read more
My boyfriend and I had the most AMAZING dinner here for our anniversary! Sebastian, our server, was so attentive and truly made this dinner special. He gave us free champagne, free ice cream, and even swapped out my martini glass so it was ice cold. I've had many dirty martinis, and this is truly one of the best I've had. My boyfriend was also obsessed with his cocktail, Lion's Tail. The vibes in here were great, very intimate and the service from all employees was outstanding. You can tell they really care about hospitality. The food was also great- standouts were the filet o' fish, apple pavlova, and superior walleye (their specialty). Mac and cheese was good as well but not traditional, so not my fave. They have free matchboxes and pens at the hostess stand, which are adorable momentos from this lovely dinner! Would highly recommend going here as it was an amazing experience! read more
This place was amazing! Food was delicious - there is a small menu & they rotate dishes out but it was tasty! We got the special ribeye & shared it. It was plenty of food and came with two sides - we chose the sautéed spinach & loaded baked potatoes! It was sooooo good! Dessert was the perfect finish as well. I loved the vanilla ice cream with shot of espresso. The service was also great! Drinks were refilled quickly & they were super helpful and friendly! And the place was so cute! Perfect for a date night or girls night out. We sat upstairs and there was a cute bar area up there as well! Definitely would go back! read more

Let me start with my daughter's rating: she gave it a perfect score of 10,000 out of 10,000, and I have to agree. The service was exceptional. Our waiter, Pat from Kansas City, significantly enhanced our experience. He made great suggestions and helped my daughter choose an excellent dessert. The ambiance was both relaxed and upscale. Lastly, the food was outstanding, but the creamed spinach was the standout dish that everyone should try. I plan to return to the Harvey House on my next visit to Madison. read more

Exciting restaurant with some train-related history. Very easy to get to. The staff were excellent and attentive through the night. We were part of a corporate party, so we had a couple of set menu items to select from. I had the filet and it was a work of art. Just look at the photo I posted. Tender, delicious, and beautiful. Others said their walleye dish was delicious as well. read more
