This is a very good date night restaurant. Romantic atmosphere. The help is very nice. I went there for Witches Night Out and it was insanely busy, witches everywhere, but the food was still excellent and the waitress was very considerate, even though we didn't have reservations. My favorite things here: Bacon wrapped dates, mushroom bisque (order it with bread- bread comes separate), and the aviator martini will knock your socks off. Very strong martini! It's a nice, quiet place to go with someone you enjoy, usually. And it's a very busy, loud place when Mount Horeb has a special event. Either way, the food is always excellent at the Bistro. read more

This was a stop for me and my friends tour around the world of the outside of the Maddison WI area. It's a nice upscale bar and restaurant in a small town that was only after dinner drinks so I have no opinion on the food. The place is small and the bar is small but we got seats at the bar. The place is upscale for the small town it's in with a nice little bar that has a nice assortment of cocktails. The bartender was friendly and we enjoyed an assortment of quality adult beverages before heading home. read more

Absolutely the highlight of the weekend. Kind of interesting ambience of higher end and small tow, with a bit of a tavern-ish feel, I had read about Chef Michael and had to give it a try. Phenomonal. And, with superior service (Renee, I believe), and a mixologist equal to anything I've experienced in the biggest of cities and best restaurante (Kaylin, or similar, I believe), it was a delightful experience. The steak and shrimp risotto were even better than expected. The old fashioned with a hint of stronger cinnamon- stupendous. read more

Dinner at the bar on Thursday evening. Bartender was friendly, engaging and helpful. I have eaten here a few times and the renovated downtown building is very inviting. The food was excellent and presentation top notch. A friend of mine had met at 101 as an in-between drive for both of us. We ended up striking up a very nice conversation with the couples on both sides of us. Warm friendly inviting place well worth the drive. read more

What a pleasant place to meet for drinks, dinner, date night, or with the whole family. This was a last minute recommendation, and I am so glad we chose B101. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here. Our server was very friendly and attentive. Our drinks were mixed just right. The food was way better than expected, when looking at the other restaurants that B101 shares on the same street. Every dish had me nodding in approval and wanting another bite. The bacon-wrapped dates are an automatic favorite: creamy dates with salty crunchy bacon, drizzled with a sweet glaze. I wish there were more than 4 to a plate. I usually only get steak at steakhouses, so I was skeptical, but ordered the filet anyway....Two big thumbs up on that decision! It was cooked to a perfect medium. Tender, easy to cut, not chewy or fatty. The salt seasoning and char took the taste to another level. I love that char grilled taste! The accompanying mushrooms were sautéed perfectly. Thinly sliced to cut down on the thick, meaty chewy texture. Easy added to every bite of steak, without distracting from its flavor. The potatoes dollops rounded out the plate perfectly. The friend's halibut was light and bright. Not over cooked. The crunchy covering with a hint of mustard and citrus added a bang of Spring flavor to the dish. The fish was flanked by 2 potato-onion mini 'muffins'. They had a beautiful crunchy outside with a warm creamy inside, and a hint of soft, well-sautéed onions. Very tasty. The vegetable s on both entrees were well done and well seasoned. Scrolling through their menu, I can't wait to try their other dishes. I'm sure I will be pleasantly surprised. Definitely worth a return visit! read more

The food was excellent and server sweet but omg the wait for food and drinks was crazy. The waitress just disappears and you just hope sometime she'll show back up! It wasn't that busy, pick up the pace! read more

The service was excellent. Server was knowledgeable and helpful. Loved the Mushroom Bisque soup; big chunks of mushrooms in a tangy cream broth. Enjoyed the squash raviolis; cooked well, not overly sweet and loved the sage on top. No cream sauce; not so heavy! Pork espantadas are perfect. Try dipped in the soup. read more

I've been to the Bistro many times before Covid. Had excellent service, food and loved the atmosphere. This place reminds me of Eno Vino in Madison. After Covid attempted several times to stop in for a drink with my family to reflect after a devastating year we had. Poor service and horrible hospitality. Well, I decided to give it our fourth shot! Tonight was amazing! Brian the bartender was so kind and attentive! The Crabcakes were out of this world !!! The bacon wrapped dates were amazing!!! Best cocktails and appetizers in town. My go to is their Caesar salad and bacon wrapped dates

Excellent food and a great, non-pretentious atmosphere. The chef, Mark, even came out and chatted with us for awhile. Highly recommend.

A fantastic place in Mount Horeb if you are looking for quality food and top shelf drinks. We had dinner there last night. My mushroom bisque was phenomenal as I was craving mushrooms after my morning hike at the nearby Bluemound State park and saw some interesting mushrooms. The artichoke dip for appetizer was delicious was beautifully presented. Hubby thoroughly enjoyed the Korean ribs and perfectly cooked fillet with delicious shrimps. The pineapple and coconut mousse cake was to die for and I almost finished the entire slice (it was rather large) on my own. The highlight was the different varieties of top shelf age old whiskeys hubby got to enjoy, with the owner coming to the table to share the stories about the whiskeys. Marvelous experience. Will go back in a heartbeat. read more

A wonderful Little corner bistro in Mount Horeb. The Bistro has good food and an incredible whiskey selection and extremely friendly service. There are times when the service can be a bit slow and some of the items are a bit pricey at times but well worth the wait and the price. And if you like whiskey this is a wonderful place to sit, relax and enjoy a cocktail or straight up whiskey with your friends and enjoy a wonderful evening. read more

Everytime we eat here our food is perfectly prepared and with such great favors. Great gem of a restaurant!

I really enjoy the ambiance and the food at the Bistro it's great! However over the last year my experience at the bar has been horrendous! There is one particular bartender that is always there. She is so condescending, rude and honestly a bully! It really makes me think whether or not I want to go on there and have my night ruined. I'm not sure how she gets away with that type of behavior. I've been in there with friends and we are just baffled by her treatment of the patrons. I hope you read this and take some action as new upscale restaurants are coming into town, providing other options. As mentioned I enjoy the vibe immensely but she makes the experience horrible! read more

Drinks: Phenomenal bar service from Marco the bartender. Atmosphere: Can you believe we're in Mount Horeb? Swanky bar and dining room for the troll town. Food: Delish local cheese, meat, vegetables and other yummies. $$$: I don't mind paying extra for this type of food and service read more

Fantastic atmosphere! It's an upscale bar and restaurant where you can feel comfortable in all attire. Lisa and Tom are great about allergies and adapting their menu to meet your needs. Knowing that I am able to find this type of cuisine (and that I can alter it without dirty looks or annoyed sighs) in a smaller town is a wonderful feeling. They also have a selective but delicious wine selection that pairs well with the food offered. Marco is great about working the entire bar and doesn't ignore you but isn't overbearing. We had two of the features: chilled Asian salad and the baked trout. They were exceptional! We asked when they would be repeated again, Lisa mentioned that they would see what they can do at that time. Hopefully these two items will be repeated more often! read more

When we go to Mt. Horeb, we make sure to dine at Bistro 101, which is by far the best restaurant around. We always sit at a two-top by the bar, because the bartender is very knowledgeable and outgoing, so we tend to learn a lot about different liquids when we are there. Plus, they tend to stock rare and unique spirits, so trying them is always a fun experience. We ordered the mushroom bisque, the chilled trout appetizer, the Greek chicken, and the pesto pasta. The soup was perfect: creamy without overdoing it, and with a perfect mushroom taste. I could have eaten five more bowls (I didn't). Of course, the trout was wonderful -- served on baguette slices and topped with red onion, the combination of flavors was perfect. I liked my pesto pasta, although I am not a big fan of zucchini in pasta, as it always seems like more of a filler than a vegetable that is actually enjoyable. But the pesto itself was very good. S. really liked his Greek chicken, although the potatoes and vegetables were his favorite parts. The service at Bistro 101 can't be beat. We chatted with the staff about the World Cup and unique brands of gin and whiskey, and we didn't want for anything. It was definitely a highlight of our trip to Mt. Horeb. read more

We stopped by chance on our way home from Madison this evening and it was excellent. The mushroom bisque soup was so very good. I had the risotto and my husband had the fish special. He said his fish was a unique and excellent flavor. I also had the Cupid kids cocktail and that was the right amount of sweet for me. The waitress was good and efficient. Highly recommend read more

Very nice place. Great, cozy atmosphere. Food was very good. Med-rare 18oz filet was salted just a little heavy for my taste, but still tasted great. Small, focused menu, and interesting, creative specials. As mentioned by others, a bit expensive. read more

Service was horrible. 3 of us ordered the New York strip. 2 of the meals came with the wrong sides with the wrong steaks, the server placed the food down and told them they would need to switch their steaks to the correct plates. In my opinion she knew they were incorrect she should have returned them to the kitchen to have the meals plated correctly before bringing them to the table. One person did not want mashed potatoes , they only other choice was rice or extra vegetables. We were told all other sides were portioned out and they wouldn't sub anything else. They mashed potatoes were OK, not great. All of our vegetables arrived cold. We informed the server of that, only response was sorry, didn't offer any hot vegetables or to warm what we had. Before our meals were completed everyone had empty glasses, refills were never offered. I will say the steak was well seasoned and cooked. That is were the good part of our experience ended, the service and sides were both lacking for a nicer restaurant. At least I get service with a smile and McDonalds. Would not recommend if you want an enjoyable experience. read more

Combination of slow and distracted service, inaccurate entrees and an unimpressive facility. I asked for an ingredient to be left out; the server said "well, I'll ask". She confirmed that it could be done, but it wasn't. Scallops in the carbonara were dime sized and it was pretty dull. Server was MIA most of the evening and was not familiar with menu or bar offerings. Facility is kind of an enclosed strip mall; steak special is $64. Simply put, I don't get this place. Absolutely won't stop again. read more

Food was was very good. Peach pie was more of a cobbler but tasted great. Some dishes take longer to prepare but we were warned. Sadly the items we ordered took the same length of time. Service was poor. Other diners who came in after us, maybe people known to the waitress, got served before us. Had to ask for utensils and a napkin. Had to ask twice for a glass of wine to be delivered so we were half way through our meal when it finally arrived. read more

When my parents asked me to meet them for dinner in Mount Horeb, I was skeptical. Both have discerning tastes that lead them to mostly eat in because they live at least 20 minutes from a good restaurant, and my mother is a very good cook. I guess sometimes your parents are right, because I've been coming back to Bistro 101 every time my parents are in town, or I have an excuse to eat in Mount Horeb. First of all, the people who work there are wonderful. After one dinner, the next time I came in, Marco remembered my name and that I love seafood, so would I like to try the halibut tonight? (Yes, you want to try the halibut if it's available) The bar features a limited wine list (but standard for the area), but Marco is generous with his pours, which is great for catching up with family over. Bistro 101 is the only place outside of Madison that my father will order steak. Maybe this is in part because they let him choose the filet before they cook it. This is a restaurant that is about more than fantastic food - it's also the friendly atmosphere cultivated by the staff. I am partial to seafood so I usually order the halibut or crab cakes, though I know they plan to branch out into difference cuisine in 2014. The sides are a more standard pilaf, but the roasted vegetables served in the winter are a wonderful accompaniment to most of the dishes. My family is partial to sharing so I've had steak and it was perfect; I've tried it rare and medium well, since mom and dad differ on how they prefer steak cooked, and both ways are delicious. The wait staff and kitchen are accommodating to any special requests, and most of the menu can be made gluten free. The aesthetics of the restaurant are such that you'd swear you were in Madison: heavy on wood and white tile accent which are reminiscent of a time past. The prices are Madisonian as well, but worth it. read more

When you can still conjure up the flavor memories of a meal weeks after you've been there you know you've had something special. Appetizer--Asian style pork belly so yummy, a sample of cold watercress soup (spring in a cup) cleansed the pallet perfectly for my entree of lamb chops done perfectly med rare and seasoned for that memorable flavor. My son had a beautiful piece of salmon, perfectly prepared. The veggies and potato terrine were excellent sides. Surprisingly good wines. Comfortable small town service, attentive, no putting on airs. So worth the trip. read more

Good mushroom soup. Undercooked veg. Okay overall, but not a place I'd go out of my way to eat at.

We ate the flatbread pizza ~ WOW! Really, the best I've ever had. The spinach salad was perfect ~ awesome combination of ingredients and dressing. The mashed potatoes were comfort food at it's best. A hidden gem in Mount Horeb, this is a great restaurant. The food was really good - some local dishes, some seeminly cajun influence. The menu was somewhat short, yet almost everything looked really good. The prices might be a bit high, but worth the price, in my opinion. Not your every day restaurant, but a nice treat. read more

Bistro 101 - The bar where the wonderful drinks are made - New American Near Me - Mount Horeb, Wisconsin

Last night was my first visit to Bistro 101 and I'm definitely a fan! I don't get to Mount Horeb very often, but I would absolutely go back, if only to eat there again! The service is great - enthusiastic and helpful - very passionate about their local food and their menu. All 3 of my friends ordered the Halibut and they LOVED it! In fact, they barely spoke they were so focused on their delicious dinners. I was in a red meat mood so I ordered the Bistro Burger. Winning!!! It was a really fantastic burger! The meat is local and HIGH quality, it was cooked perfectly medium rare and the pretzel bun was magic. No kidding, best pretzel bun I've ever had! The potato wedges were good, nothing special, but a nice side. However, the burger was the star. Let's talk wine for a minute. I'm a big red girl. I love the big reds and typically, I go for a nice cabernet. We ordered a bottle of the 2011 Homefront Red by Murphy-Goode (Santa Rosa, CA) and it was ideal. SUPER good! We all loved it! I'm going to try to find it locally so I can buy some bottles for home. Yes, that good! And a portion of each bottle sold goes to Operation Homefront so that's one more thing to feel good about. read more

I was so excited to have dinner at Bistro 101. And then... They were out of all the dishes that I really wanted to try. As second choice, I got the Butternut Squash soup. No flavor. As second choice, I got the Greek Chicken. Absolutely nothing Greek about it. The bartender (Marco) knew the parties on both sides of me. He talked at length with them and gave them great service. I sat virtually ignored in between them, to the point of him probably not even realizing that I would have ordered more food and more drink if he had offered. With a disappointed palette, I went across the street for good wine, good service, and good conversation with real people. I love supporting local businesses. But Bistro 101 needs more competition to up their game and be deserving of their 'great' reputation. read more
