So we went back here again. I don't know why we keep forgetting the bad experience every time. Actually, I know why. The other places in the area all offer very limited choices. It makes me think that Madison is not a diverse food city. Differently story for a different day. IMHO, no self respecting brunch place should serve Tropicana orange juice. They should also have more specialty coffees. On this day, their waffle maker was broken. Seriously? A brunch place with one waffle maker? The server came to visit rarely and kept forgetting that we had asked for a drink. It was only when we asked the manager to get us the drink that it finally arrived. Having said all this, I will say that the building that houses this restaurant is nice. This one fact hides a lot of their shortcomings and we keep ending back here. My final comment is that if I were the chef at this place, I would not put my name on the menu, especially the pastry chef because I saw only one pastry on the menu: the cinnamon rolls. Good restaurants are run by human beings. Human beings sometimes have bad days. That's part of humanity. The mark of a good restaurant is how they respond when something goes wrong. Regrettably, something went wrong at my dinner at Graze. After the meal, I received an email asking for direct feedback with the management, which I shared. And I received a very well written apology with a sincere effort to make things right. That effort brought what would have been a 2* experience up to a 4* review. The most important tidbit I have to share for someone contemplating a dinner at Graze is to go hard on the vegetable focused starters. Wow! These were the stars of the show. Hands down. Full stop. Those were five star dishes all the way. Asparagus in season with bread crumbs. Stunning! Young tender beets paired with strawberries? Inspired! While the burger was tempting, I had a burger for lunch and I couldn't bring myself to do a two burger day. I went for the Korean Fried Chicken app as my main, paired with those veggies. It was plenty of food, and I had high hopes for the chicken given the chef's background. But some of the meat was stringy and overcooked. The sauce was zesty with good heat. Still, it fell short of the standard. Warm cookies and milk are never bad. Classics are classics for a reason. But given some of the culinary creativity that exists in the kitchen, it's a bit uninspired. That said, one scoop of seasonal pear sorbet was fantastic! Great flavor and texture. While the server did not know what type of pear was used, I'd put my money on Boscs. The place is popular. Make reservations early. Madison turns out not to be such a late night town, so plan accordingly. While I may not have been tempted to return originally, after the care and attention I received from management, I would indeed come back. Hubby took me to Graze for our Anniversary Dinner on Friday night and WOW!! Food was incredible. We started off with the Korean Fried Chicken which came with a delicious parmesan ranch. I got the Friday fish fry and hubby got the Bone-In Pork Chop with jalapeño grits, white bbq, and a blueberry gastrique. Both main dishes were some of the best food we've ever had. And of course ended with the Blueberry Cheesecake! We came for regular brunch menu on Easter Sunday. The ambience is open, airy, and inviting. Service was prompt and accurate. However, our server wasn't super familiar with the menu and didn't know what was in certain dishes. We ordered a variety of dishes. Overall, everyone liked their meals. The flavors were great. Love the Korean fusion. However... despite that we were the first ones in the door, they did not have the chicken that was on the menu. That seemed strange to all of us that they didn't plan ahead for a holiday weekend. A solid restaurant would usually have their menu items well stocked prior to a holiday weekend. This spot is somewhat high end for Madison, and is in the middle of downtown so I was surprised to find such a thing in our food, but the staff took action quickly. I know most people like it here, but everytime I've been here over the years something has gone astray. This time we went to Sunday brunch with a group, including some kids. We had reservations, so we were seated right away which was a plus. Also, I will say I don't think any of the issues we had were because of our waitress. She was super friendly and quick enough to take our orders on a day when there restaurant seemed full enough, but manageable. We got our drink orders in and our food at the same time to speed up the process for getting little kids food, and the waitress even took note of that. We also ordered an appetizer to help during the wait. It took a while for the drinks to come out, but they were all rather tasty. I think my apple cider mocktail was the best and refreshing since it was getting hot in the restaurant with the sun beating in. Our food however took forever and the kids meals did not come out any earlier than everyone else. One person in our group also initially didn't get his meal, which the waitress apologized and said there was a mixup in the kitchen. That's fine, it happens, but then the staff running meals tried to bring him the wrong order 3 times. The rest of us were all finished eating by the time he finally got his food. Overall, the food was fine. I got the eggs benedict which was a little underdone on the eggs for me as the whites were too runny for me. The kids chicken nuggets were pretty tasty with a flaky breading. I heard decent reviews of the breakfast burger, but the thing that was the best to us was the breakfast sandwich. It was quite messy, but the messiness of the sauce was worth it. We also got an appetizer of the cinnamon roll. I feel like it's a little mislabeled though, as it was more like a morning bun with some frosting/glaze over the top. Tasted pretty good and helped keep kids entertained for a while. Overall, the food was fine, but the experience wasn't great. With the multiple mixups in orders and getting a little green house effect going with the sun shining in, there wsnt a great feeling when leaving. Great location across from the Capitol with lots of windows, the sister restaurant to Michelin Star-worthy L'Etoile across the hallway doesn't disappoint. On a recent visit, we enjoyed the very nice cocktail and wine lists as well as a great menu. The Delicata Squash appetizer was very good and a large portion, while the fish fry was excellent if smaller pieces and a bit different than your typical Wisconsin fish fry. My wife loved the Bibimbap, and save room if you can for desserts which are excellent. Service was very professional and great for most of our visit until our server got bogged down with a large table but eventually asked another server to get us closed out rather than continue waiting. Really everybody from the bartender who made sure to pop his head over and welcome us at the host station after we had been waiting upon arrival, to the team of servers on the floor working together was indicative of the highest level of professionalism. While wondering around downtown Madison, we passed by Graze a few times and finally decided to swing in for Sunday brunch...and we are happy we did! Graze is a local eatery that focuses on fresh-made, locally sourced food and drink. For brunch, we started with a few bloody Mary's and then dove into the food. I went with the Korean Fried Chicken Honey Biscuit with fries and my buddy went with the Loaded Hashbrowns. Both meals were cooked well, and delicious! The fried chicken was crispy, well breaded, perfectly fried and coated in that amazing sauce. My only gripe is the biscuit. The biscuit was great taste wise, but the way it was cut with the bottom being too thin made it unable to be picked up and ate as a biscuit. I ended up eating ugh with a fork and knife. The space itself is gorgeous. High ceilings, dark colors, wood accents, industrial seating, local art and massive windows on three sides looking out onto the downtown streets. Service was great as well. The bartenders and food runners were helpful, friendly and pleasant. Overall, wildly impressed with Graze. Definitely on my list for my next trip to Madison! read more

What an absolute gem of a spot. Every single employee seemed genuinely happy to work here and the service was OUT of this world. The location is so fantastic but the menu is really something else. There really is something to satisfy every craving. My table ordered quite an assortment of foods. I got the chicken and waffles and ... WOW.... I love Graze so much. The menu and atmosphere are perfect for a date, a friends time out or a work lunch. My last visit, I had the Japanese egg salad sandwich because I'm a fan of egg salad and I was intrigued by the Japanese style. It was soft boiled with halved eggs and absolutely delicious. It also came, in true Japanese style, with little sides of pickled kimchi and I think radishes, along with an amazing salad. The green tea I ordered was the perfect complement. This location is beautiful - sits right next to the capitol building and is amazing during the day time and night. The waiter mentioned that all the food is sourced from their local farmers market and we definitely can taste how fresh everything was! We had the graze burger and the bibimbap (both amazing), but our absolute favorites were the fried cheese curds (we had them elsewhere during our trip to WI but we especially liked these ones), pork belly on the grits, and the Basque cake (the waiter said the chef went to Spain to master it and I don't doubt it! Great spot a nice view of the capitol from our seat. Liked the cheese curds and the dip/bread. We didn't love the Anaheim burger that was the special that night. It was a lot of blistered peppers and the flavor was good but texturally was kind of slimey. Maybe in the had made a spread with cheese like a pimento cheese, it would have been better. We would have loved more sauce with the bibimbap and generally felt that it was just good enough to satisfy a craving. We walked in on a Thursday evening with 10 people and asked for (seating, ok to split us up). They were gracious and able to seat us at two nearby tables with a very short wait. They were also able to accommodate individual bill requests and provide wonderful service. The location is on the capital square. It was a very inviting space. Our reservation was for 7pm on a Thursday and I'm glad we made one because it was pretty busy. When I checked with the host, he asked if I minded waiting a moment for a table to clear out because he wanted to seat us in one of the best spots--up by the windows with a great view of the square. I was glad we waited. With high ceilings and a wall of windows, the restaurant feels fresh and open. It's upscale but not in a stuffy way. The options are very limited as a vegan. I was grateful that my server marked up a menu to show exactly what could be modified (though the tofu was mistakenly crossed off). In my opinion, the only viable vegan option is the tofu dolsot bibimbap. You have to remove the egg and kimchi, but it ended up being a pretty tasty dish even without those components. Compared to the other people I was dining with, I certainly got the most food for the least amount of money. But the vegan version of the bibimbap is overpriced for what it is. Overall the service was good (my water was never empty!) and the space is wonderful, but the vegan options are bleak. I've heard they used to have a lot more. I'd love to see some vegan dishes from Graze that have more intention and care. read more

I ate here at the recommendation of a work colleague. I booked a reservation the night before. I arrived 15 minutes before my reservation was was seated immediately as the people in front of us were turned away without a reservation. This place could have a nice view to the Capitol building but not all seats have a good view. The menu for this place is small. I decided to go with the Old Fashioned to drink and ordered the Graze Burger which is a three meat patty with Brisket, short rib and bacon. I special ordered it with no onions and the garlic aioli on the side. I added cheese curds for $3 which made this a $29 plate. The cheese curds were good but not quite as good as Old Fashioned. The burger tasted great but this patty was small in size and was wishing it was bigger. The Swiss flavor was noticeable in the compound butter. I ordered a second Old Fashioned. Overall good service, good alcohol content in my drinks, good food, small menu, small portions, OK views. 3.5 stars! read more

The constant change and lack of consistency is disruptive. Recently I came for brunch and got cheese curds and the loaded hash. We had a reservation at 1:30 pm and arrived a little early. We were immediately seated in a nice area of the restaurant street side looking toward the Capitol Building. If you're in Madison, Graze is one restaurant that's a must visit. The restaurant has floor to ceiling windows with great views of the capital building. The décor is modern with great ambience. Service was excellent and the food was delicious. For appetizers, I recommend the cheese curds, roasted carrots, and ricotta meatballs. For entrée, I went with the braised pork belly and it was absolutely heavenly. Prices are very reasonable for the quality of food and service you get. Please note that they do charge a 10% fair wage fee, which is not meant to replace the tip. So keep that in mind. read more
