Great pizza and fun downtown Madison vibe on Capitol Square. Try the Detroit style pizza for a more filling meal or the traditional Pizza Margherita w/ Prosciutto & Arugla is my favorite. We like sitting upstairs to people watch. read more

Once a bank, this two-story space has gone from counting dollars to counting cocktails, and honestly, it seems very happy about it. The old bones are still showing, with exposed brick walls and the large open windows giving the place that "well, they sure don't build 'em like this anymore" kind of charm. Right smack in the middle of the main floor sits a big ol' bar, surrounded by bright lime-green accent chairs that somehow make perfect sense once you're sitting in one, bellying up to the aluminum topped bar. Tables are scattered throughout both floors, all are absolutely packed, and not a grumpy face in sight. Upstairs, the two-story layout gives the place a little extra breathing room and a touch of old-building grandeur. It's quirky without trying too hard, colorful without being fussy, and comfortable in that distinctly Midwestern way. Why not start with an Old Fashioned and those Wisconsin cheese curds--because apparently regular cheese wasn't doing enough heavy lifting. These little golden nuggets come out hot, crisp, and gloriously greasy, a little salty, a little oily, plenty cheesy, and best eaten while they're still hot enough to make you question your life choices. The Old Fashioned, well... bless its heart, it tried. It had all the usual suspects--whiskey, a little sweetness, an orange garnish, and a healthy dose of bitters--but somehow the bitters forgot to show up for work. It wasn't terrible, exactly. It just lacked that gruff Wisconsin attitude you'd hope for in an Old Fashioned. God Bless The Queen! The Queen is their wood-fired pizza that keeps things simple while teasing your taste buds with rich fresh flavor. The flavors are classic Italian comfort, with the tomato bringing a little tang, the mozzarella keeping things creamy, and the Parmesan adding that salty, nutty punch at the end. The basil gives it a fresh, herby lift, while the wood-fired crust brings that smoky, crispy edge that makes you want to pick up another slice before you've even finished the first. Loved it! Eating this pizza in an old bank feels like peak Wisconsin: keep the brick, add a bar, fire up a pizza oven, and throw some cheese curds at the situation. Somehow, it works. Cheers! read more

4.5 stars. Date of visit: July 2026 We stayed in Madison 3 nights and ate at Lucille two of those nights. One night we sat downstairs and one night upstairs. Central downtown location near our hotel and the Capitol. The service was friendly and the food was good. Outdoor seating available in the summer. The only complaint was the chairs were uncomfortable! (The second visit we had a booth, which was more comfy!) See photos attached. Helpful? read more

Always a must stop for the pre Great Taste of the Midwest Central Waters tap takeover on the Friday before the festival. This place is big, two floors, with a large central bar on the first floor. We arrived around 4pm on a Friday and of course the place was busy! We found a few seats on the drink rail across from the bar. We ordered up all the Central Waters deliciousness and were eventually able to move to the bar as people left. The bartenders were busy taking care not f all the thirsty guests, but as always they did it so well! Always a good time. read more

It was our first time at Lucille's, and the pizza definitely lived up to the hype! We went with the steel-cut pizza made with Wisconsin cheese and beer because it seemed like the better option, and it was amazing! The crust was thick and crispy, with plenty of sauce and flavor. We ordered a 14" pizza for the two of us and still had half left over, which I was actually happy about because we got to enjoy it again later! The wood-fired pizza at the table next to us looked even better, though, so I'll definitely be trying that next time. Our server was amazing and very knowledgeable about the menu and specials, which made the experience even better. There are also plenty of seating options, including outdoor, bar, and indoor seating. Overall, we had a great first experience at Lucille's and are already excited to come back and try the wood-fired pizza! read more

I always enjoy checking out local favorites when I travel, and Lucille's in downtown Madison absolutely lived up to the hype. On a beautiful day, I grabbed a table outside and enjoyed the downtown atmosphere while digging into a classic wood-fired personal pizza and a cold beer. Sometimes simple is best, and Lucille's proves exactly that. The pizza was delicious, with a perfectly cooked crust and great flavor in every bite. The service was friendly and attentive, and the staff made the experience even better. Combined with the lively ambiance and prime downtown location, it's easy to see why Lucille's has become one of the most popular pizza spots in Madison. Great pizza, great service, and great vibes. If you're visiting Madison or looking for a reliable local favorite, Lucille's is well worth the stop. read more

My review is based on the quality of the food - not the poor service. My party was a group of four. We had a pretty irritating experience including our table being given to another party after waiting 75 minutes. And had to wait an additional 20 minutes. Food wasn't delivered on time. One of the appetizers came worth the pizza (40 minutes later) and my personal pizza was missed and was delivered 20 minutes after everyone else was finished eating. Food itself was enjoyable. The stand out for me was the curds and the deep dish. read more

Lucille had a great aesthetic. I tried a non conventional item from a place that mainly serves pizza which was the chickpea curry bowl. While it was not amazing it still had a good flavor and I enjoyed trying it. It was just a lot of flavor in one dish that kinda overpowered it. Ceasar salad -- blah. But the star was the brownie cooked in the wood fire pizza oven with ice cream -- amazing! And don't forget the candied pecans! read more

10/5/25 Reservations for five people. Sat in a booth on the second level. I felt that our server was a bit distracted and slow. We really enjoyed our large harvest salad, the Umami pizza, the Queen pizza, and one that we built. They have a huge selection of beer, so go for it! read more

We met some friends for dinner before a concert at the Monona Terrace. I hadn't been there since Dec (if you haven't been to Lucille in Dec, it's a must do for their festive decor and drinks) and I was really impressed. We enjoyed the summer harvest salad, yummy umami pie and a grilled peach & tomato platter (can't recall the name) special. Everything was fresh, tasty and beautiful. We ate too much because we couldn't take leftovers to the concert and we didn't want to throw anything away. Definitely recommend! read more

I go from time on time to madison, and I loved this place for brunch, they accepted a party of 10 people and a baby with no issues. They satvus on the second level, the pizzas might take between 15 to 20 mins, however, those pizza are wood fire cooked, it is not pricey and also they have good selections, still you can make your own pizza if you want to. I would suggest try "The queen", loved the crust and the toppings, higly reccommended :) read more

We went here last night to celebrate my daughter's graduation. I had made a reservation in advance since the holiday time is their busiest time of year from what I hear. I was absolutely stunned when I walked into this restaurant and saw all of their holiday decorations. It was beautiful! We had to wait about 15 minutes for our table, then headed up the stairs to be seated at a half circle booth for eight people. It was very tight, so we asked for a chair to be placed on the end which definitely made the seating arrangement better. However, the one spot on the end seemed as if the cushion part was missing from where people had been sitting, so that was not comfortable, and it should be replaced. The service was outstanding and I'm sorry I forgot to note our server's name. I ordered the chips and salsa, which was delicious. I had to question whether the salsa was indeed vegan since it seemed creamy. Thankfully it was vegan! For the entrée, I ordered a vegan mozzarella cheese pizza with mushrooms and spinach. It did not disappoint! The crust was amazing; I appreciate that it wasn't too salty. The tomato sauce was incredible. Everybody had a great time and Lucille's was the absolutely perfect place for this special occasion. read more

Great spot! This restaurant gives industrial-chic, and overall great vibes. We were in town for the weekend and our friends (who are locals) booked us a rez here. Good thing too because it was poppin' on a Saturday night. Turns out it's great for groups, as there were six of us and we were seated in a huge booth upstairs. Love how it's a big open-concept where you can see downstairs from above. Our server didn't seem all that delighted to be there, but she was attentive nonetheless. She returned quickly with a handful of drinks, including the three espresso martinis us gals ordered. These were so darn good! They do them great here. One of our friends ordered for the table, including the harvest salad to start. It was alright, just your average salad in my opinion. But the pizzas were the real enjoyment - we got a steel pan (which is Detroit-style), and a few of the wood-fired options. I think the umami pie was my fave as it has black garlic cream and a balsamic glaze. I'd certainly look to return here on another visit to town. Awesome location, and plenty of more menu items to try. read more

Enjoyed the pizza and atmosphere over the holiday season will def be back next year! They don't have a kids menu but my kids like pizza. I came here with a group of 4, and three of us were celebrating birthdays. The server was fantastic, she was lively, kind, and even gave us a complimentary birthday shot, which was such a nice touch. Everyone in our group ordered a pizza, but only three came out at first. After about 5 minutes, the server checked and told us one pizza had been dropped in the kitchen, so they were remaking it. While we waited, she brought my friend some cheese curds, which was really thoughtful. By the time the last pizza was ready, the rest of us had finished eating, so she kindly boxed it to go. The pizzas were delicious, though a little pricey, and the overall vibe of the restaurant was fun and welcoming. Despite the small hiccup, I'd definitely come back. read more

Not a friendly welcome when we have to wait to be greeted at the front desk for our reservation. The servers looked constipated and couldn't smile. Either they hate their jobs or don't like waiting on customers. The rice, beans and chicken were bland, and had no flavor in the bodega bowl. Lucille was overall a good experience. The food was excellent, with cheese curds definitely being a must in the appetizers. We also got guacamole which was a good choice as well, but was a bit overpriced. In the main course, my friend and I shared a 14' build your own wood fired pizza with pepperoni, sausage, and hot honey. The pizza was amazing, and I would definitely recommend getting hot honey on almost any pizza. My team also got the wakey wakey eggs and bakey pizza with hot honey, which they also enjoyed. The atmosphere was also nice, and there was plenty of seating area both downstairs and upstairs. The only irritating part of the experience was customer service. Food did take quite long to come out, and while it was understandable due to the brunch/lunch rush, it was a bit excessive. read more

Love this place!! They serve wood-fired pizzas need I say more? The pizzas served here are absolutely delicious and don't let their size full you...their pizza is loaded with lots of fresh toppings! The interior of this place is very cozy and very chic, making it a great place to hang out in a group and take some great photos especially over the holidays. This place is especially well decorated during December in which they host Miracle on King Street. It is absolutely beautiful inside! There is an upstairs area and a downstairs lounge area (perfect for company dinners/parties). During Miracle on King Street the drink menu changes to suit the holidays. The drinks here are both delicious and strong. They also sell vintage style Christmas cups to which I couldn't resist and bought a dinosaur cup. Don't be ashamed to dress in holiday sweaters when visiting in December. Make reservations in advance, the bar area fills up quickly. read more

Great stop before a concert at Camp Randall a few weeks ago. We split a Caesar and The Queen. Loved the spicy Caesar with the chips on top! And the Queen was simple and delicious. The Mexican fusion with pizza is such a fun restaurant concept. Service was great especially since it was a really busy day. Make a reservation if you can. We sat on the 2nd floor which was quieter than the 1st floor. But the first floor has a large bar people were congregating at. Can't wait to go back! read more

Super cute space. Visited Lucille during their Miracle on King St pop up. (Ends 12/24/24). Super fun holiday themed drinks due to the pop up and an explosion of holiday decor. Their menu has a good selection with a variety of salads, pizza, and shareables. Staff was very friendly and they kept us in the loop for example that we were going to have a switch in servers etc. They do note this in their reservations page but it is a two level space. Quite the stairs to go to level two so make sure if anyone in your group needs accessible seating or cannot do stairs well that you request seating on level one. read more

I arrived early to meet hubby at the Yelp event, and parked at the bar to warm up after walking from campus. The "Miracle on King" decor is super fun. The quantity of ornaments and lights was huge. The seasonal collection of cocktail glasses in use is amazing. The sole bartender was super busy, and I got to watch him make some fairly complex drinks. He acknowledged me and apologized for the wait. It really wasn't that long... The drink, a cranberry daiquiri, was excellent. Thank you for the friendly service, the wonderful cocktail, and the entertainment of your cocktail making. read more

I've wanted to try the pizza here for a while, and since I was in the area, it was a perfect chance, too! I started out with the cheese curds and skipped the marinara to use the ranch. It was phenomenal. For pizza, we got a classic pepperoni, and omg, it was to die for. Perfect amounts of everything. I'm not a pizza and ranch girl, but their ranch was so good on the pizza that I had to indulge. It was so good. Has a great view of the capital too! read more

Made reservations figured must be a nice restaurant. Took my family there. 1st timers, will never be back. We decided to order the steel pan pizza. I'll tell you im 57 years old and this by far is the WORST PIZZA I HAVE EVER HAD. It was burnt, cheese was only in the center, most of this was just warm burnt bread with little sauce and basically no cheese. Our bill was over $70 dollars. They took off $10.00. What a complete joke. Do not go unless you eat crap like that waste of money. VERY DISAPPOINTED manager wouldn't even come to talk to us about our 1st and last ever experience at Lucilles read more

The waitress was lovely and attentive. However, our pizza had to be remade after we asked about it several times. My pizza didn't arrive until about 40 minutes later, and when it did, it had a hair in it. They initially offered a 50% discount, and after mentioning the hair, the manager agreed to remove it from the bill. What surprised me the most was that the manager never came over to apologize or acknowledge the situation. For a restaurant of this type, that level of service is disappointing. Nothing special overall, and it seems like management doesn't really care. We were visiting for a football game and expected a better experience. Here photo of the pizza with a hair. Btw- lavender lemonade was really good. read more

Loved the atmosphere here! Open floor plan & friendly service with excellent food! Our group of 4 was accommodated easily! We didn't have a reservation, but sat at the bar within 15mins of arriving (full menu). The drinks were fab and priced fairly for being in the city. Crafted with care! The pizzas are two different types of crusts so read carefully! We ordered one of each and enjoyed the leftovers later that night! read more

Located on the Capitol Square area of downtown Madison Wisconsin, Lucille serves up a really good version of Detroit style pizza We first visited Lucille shortly after it opened, and at the beginning of the Detroit style pizza craze a while back. On this stop, we dropped in for Saturday lunch after visiting the Saturday farmer's market. We had a furry friend with the four of us, so needed a restaurant that had a shaded, outdoor patio that allowed dogs, which Lucille does. We got on the waitlist, quoted a 20 minute wait, and was seated before then. Service was fine throughout. It's a smaller menu, with two types of pizza available: wood-fired (Neopolitan) and steel-pan (Detroit). Both only come in one size, with the steel-pan ($33) having 8 pieces (enough to feed 3-4). We didn't like any of the specials, so just went with Build-your-own: ordered pepperoni and sausage (replaced by bacon...not sure what happened there). The pizza uses Mozzarella instead of Wisconsin Brick, and the toppings were quality. Delicious pizza, and easy to bring back to the hotel. An order of chips and salsa ($6) had good, well made salsa though the chips were a bit stale (probably because of the humid air). Two white rascals were good (had many of those in california) for $7. The fat orange cat kittens draft was good, but costly at $12 because of sourcing costs. Paying was easy directly at the table using Toast. read more

Great location, atmosphere, and pizza. We started with the nachos and guacamole. Portions were huge!! I loved that the guac came with Jicama and celery, I wish it was a little spicier. Nachos had the perfect ratio of toppings/cheese. They also were very big, and we ordered small. Tried the weekly special pizza and deep dish. I love that Lucille always has unique pizza options. If you don't want pizza, there are other entrees, like rice bowls. I tried the Bodega bowl and was really surprised - since they're known for their pizza. Service and atmosphere were great! We sat upstairs and it was so fun, very large open space with an industrial chic vibe. I will say we ordered everything at once, but the guac and bowl came out first, then a pizza, then nachos, and the final pizza. I wish the timing could have been a little better. This is the second time I've been to Lucille, the last time was many years ago and the experience wasn't great. What a difference this time, my friend and I were looking for something close to our hotel and kind of wanted pizza so we gave it a try. On a busy Friday, we didn't have to wait for a table and had the choice of the patio or inside, we chose inside. We had a nice booth upstairs. I love the atmosphere, it's an old building and they have it open and industrial. Unlike last time, our service was great, but not intrusive, we had our order taken quickly, and our food was delivered quickly but she didn't hover, it would have been great to get more water but we survived. The drink menu is far better than most restaurants with some great cocktail options, you almost never see a French 75 on the menu. But having the drinks in the menu isn't enough, you have to execute them as well. My friend had a Hugo spritz and she is picky having had the in Italy, she said this was the best one she's had in the states, as good as the ones in Italy. We had cheese curds as an app and the serving size was perfect, they were breaded and served with a red sauce and ranch and everything was flavorful. Our pizza came out just after we finished the curds and it was so good. My friend had one of the specialty pizzas while I built my own. Both were great, the wood fire oven gives the edges some nice crispy spots but there are also chewy pieces. There was just the right amount of sauce and toppings and they didn't overdo the mushrooms which can cause the top to get watery. Overall it was a great experience and I will definitely go back next time I'm in Madison, definitely recommend. read more

Great interior, a lot of seatings and large windows! Loved our server, he was kind and attentive but not overly so. Here's my food rundown: - Cheese curds (5/5): great seasoning, crisp outside, delicious ranch, no notes - Nachos (4.5/5): flavor was great, we got it with the pork shoulder and we actually ordered the 1lb and received the 3 lb version ??? def not complaining though haha. my only note is that the dispersion of toppings was a bit uneven (there was a TON of pickled onion on one side and rather sparse on the other) - Weekender pizza (3/5): the flavor was great !! all the toppings meshed together and the sausage was very flavorful; where it gets not so good is the construction-- the crust was perfectly crispy and amazing but the inner dough was undercooked and tasted a bit raw. also, the toppings were heavvyyy, i definitely appreciate the generosity but there was so much on top of the pizza it was sliding off (which i also suspect is a reason for the middle being underdone) This is a side note but my N/A margarita was missing its rim-- not a big deal but was kinda sad abt it :') Overall would totally come here again and give it another try! might've just been an off day with the pizza but the food was pretty tasty and the vibes were good read more
