First the good. I came with a big party (16 people). We had to split up into two groups, but the restaurant was very accommodating and put us next to each other. The restaurant has very nice ambience and atmosphere. Service was good and all the staff were very friendly. The night we were there they also had live music so that was cool. As for the food, I thought it was pretty average. As someone who was coming from New York, my standards for pizza are going to be high. We ordered The Queen, Weekender, 6 Mile Classic, and Mediterranean. Out of those, my favorite was The Queen. So that's the one I would recommend. On the latter, I was fine with that because it looked like a fun place and a great vibe, and a 4.0 yelp score to me generally says "pretty solid". So, the food was actually terrible. I am glad I didn't venture to try anything not pizza, but I was like really wishing I hit up Pizza Hut or a little neighborhood joint called Dahmeenos. I really wouldn't recommend eating here because the pizza was some of the worst I've had. On the flip side, the bar/restaurant has a great industrial vibe & decor to it. Fun music and such. Just steps away from Wisconsin's State Capitol, you can find this beautiful restaurant. Lucille's is a tri-level restaurant that serves craft beers, cocktails, wood-fired pizza, and a variety of shared platters. If you are fortunate enough to get seated upstairs, you will also be able to get an amazing view of the capitol building. This review is based on my first visit to the restaurant on a Saturday afternoon, with a reservation for a party of 4. NOTE: Strongly recommend making a reservation (and, if you check-in via Yelp on your first visit, you can get a free dessert item). Food: My party of four tried the steel pan nachos, a steel pan pizza (serves 3-4 per their menu), empanadas, and a 'build your own' wood-fired pizza. We all enjoyed the steel pan nachos- the homemade chips were crisped to perfection, and the toppings were tasty. The empanadas were just okay- they left more to be desired. They lacked enough filling, and seemed to compensate with more dough instead. Our wood-fired pizza arrived before the steel pan pizza, so everyone was eating from the wood-fired pizza. The pizza provided a savory taste with every bite and the sauce was delicious. When the steel pan pizza arrived, we were already full from the nachos and wood-fired pizza. Two people in my party still had a slice of the steel pan pizza and they enjoyed it. Service: We arrived a few minutes early than our reserved time, but we were seated immediately on the lower level near the bar. We were provided with water and small plates immediately, but shared that we needed more time to review the menu as it was our first time visiting. While the waiter was pleasant and provided everything we needed, she was slow. When it was time to pay our bill, she waited so long to collect the funds that I went looking for her so we could leave. Perhaps they're just having staffing issues, like many other restaurants during this time. Value: Keep in mind that this place is known for pizza and shared plates. With that said, I personally would not dine here alone. It is a little pricey for the location in my opinion, and if you dine alone, you will really be paying for it. The 'build-your-own' pizza can add up quickly as each topping costs between $2-$5, and I didn't try any of the 'fresh house cocktails' as they ranged from $13-$17 each. I did notice that they have a happy hour everyday from 3pm-6pm (all day Tuesdays), so that might be the time to try those! Ambiance: The restaurant has a modern, rustic, renovated warehouse feel to it. When you walk in, you will immediately notice the high ceilings, all of the lights, modern decor, and U-shaped bar in the center of the lower floor. It was very warm and inviting. Beliefs: Speaking of the restaurant being 'warm and inviting,' I also love their beliefs, which create a healthy environment for inclusiveness. We opted to get seated upstairs & a hostess walked us up. Our server greeted us within minutes & provided us with a limited menu due to the time, that included their specials. Visited Lucille for "Date Night " with a friend. when scheduling the reservation asked for the table with a video of the capitol as I wanted my friend to have a super awesome view to lift her spirits. We booked this reservation for 10 adults about a month in advance. They were one of the only places in town that would take a reservation without making it a catering order. We were just 5 couples going to dinner, we didn't need a catering order. It was weird. Anyway, Lucille's took our reservation and right away asked if we had any dietary restrictions in our party, which we did. It was so thoughtful that they asked that upfront. They seated us right away at a great table on the first floor. We ordered drinks, mocktails, appetizers, pizza and more - everything was exceptional. They had a separate gluten-free menu which is always important to me, and the gluten-free pizza was ACTUALLY GOOD. A tough feat when it comes to GF pizza. Honestly, everything we tried (which was nearly the whole menu) was amazing. They even offered free shots to everyone at the table since we were celebrating a birthday. During our visit, the table next to us required and ADA accommodation and the staff took action right away to modify the table and meet the needs of the table. I've been wanting to try Lucille for a long time, so I was excited when my friend suggested it for a girl's night! I was surprised by the enormity of the restaurant, with its spacious two floor dining area and large bar in the center. The decor is warm and inviting, and the staff is incredibly friendly. We were seated upstairs, which was perfect because of the gorgeous view of the Capitol from up there. For my first drink, I chose the Love Train, a fresh mix of Tanqueray Gin, Elderflower Liqueur, Pear, Matcha, Agave and Mint. The flavor was a little less sweet than I was expecting, and the color was a bit off-putting - it looked like a kale smoothie. It was tasty though! For my second drink, I chose the Love Hangover, which contained Tito's Vodka, Fresh Peach Syrup, Lemon Juice, Orange Juice and Mint. I enjoyed that one much more! After that, I opted for a beer - Rebel Kent from 3 Sheeps Brewing Company. I've had it before, and it has a very nice finish! For an appetizer, I ordered a chipotle chicken empanada, and it was amazing! The aji verde sauce was the perfect accoutrement. My friend and I split a 14" "The Queen" wood fired pizza, and it was incredible! This particular pie consists of tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, basil, extra virgin olive oil and SarVecchio Parmesan. We liked the Queen Bee pizza, which we ordered with arugula and prosciutto. It was good. We made the mistake of ordering the $24 burrata salad. I'll remember it for a long time and not in a good way!. It had wilted iceberg lettuce doused with a sweet dressing - my daughter called it Wishbone salad dressing. Inexplicably it included tiny bits of watermelon, which were room temperature and melted into the sweet dressing. It was ridiculously bad. I remember these sorts of salads from my childhood but thought they were cancelled decades ago. The place was packed tonight after the University of Wisconsin's first football Game plus the city's largest outdoor festival. Service was fine, nothing special. Our waitress was super kind and let us know that the empanadas were on the bigger side so we opted for two instead. I'm not gonna lie the empanadas and curds came out extremely greasy. Everything was deep fried and obviously didn't get a much needed dry off after sitting in the oil. We loved the marinara that the curds came with. Out of the beef and chipotle chicken empanadas, we loved the chipotle chicken option! The empanada dipping sauce complimented that flavor nicely! The star of the show was our was our firewood pizza! We ordered The Queen style with added prosciutto and arugula. This was amazing! If you're looking for a quality pizza place and a little fine dining experience then definitely don't pass up Lucille. We were staying at a hotel on Capital Square and thought we it would be a great night to take a walk and have a couple of drinks couple of drinks at a downtown establishment. Lucille looked like it had the most action of all the surrounding bars and restaurants, so we decided to give it a try. It was a beautiful late December evening, only a little cool, we thought a nice warm drink would have been great. We were a little let down when the bartender told us that they don't serve hot drinks. Seems they had some available before Christmas but removed them after. (It was only like 2 days after Christmas) Either way, we found some other cool drinks to try on the drink menu. I was impressed with the vibe of this place. Great location, had a live jazz band, cool drink menu and very trending and open concept. It was busy, but not packed for a Wednesday Night. Some people still were enjoying food but the drinking crowd was slowing taking over. We weren't there for food.... But the pizza and the nachos that people were eating around us looked awesome!
