Locals should consider this five stars. I'm from the Trenton NJ area. Birthdays in my family were always celebrated with Trenton Tomato Pie. Finding Salvatore's in Madison shocked me. I was so excited to see the picture of the Trenton Makes bridge when I walked in. Service was pleasant and very good. The tomato pie? Very close to Trenton. We tried Salvatore's for dinner this evening. It was probably about 75% full when we arrived around 6:00 pm. They were able to seat the four of us immediately. Our waitress arrived promptly to take our order, but we asked for a few minutes to peruse the menu. In addition to dining in, they obviously do a brisk delivery service based on the boxes we saw being taken out the door during our stay there. When our waitress returned, we ordered. A couple of pizzas, a salad, and a half Caesar salad. The half salad was delivered in just a few minutes and my friend who ordered it said it was delicious. Filled with parmesan chips, it looked amazing! Then we waited. It became a really long wait. One of those waits where you notice that the folks behind you who came in after you and yet had already finished their meal. Our server had not stopped back after delivering the half salad and I kept expecting her to drop by and say, "they are working on it", or "it will be out soon" or just to see if we needed something. It was close to an hour later when she brought out the pizzas and salad. Not a word about the wait. Maybe they got really busy with delivery orders. Regardless, it felt like our waitress should have checked on us earlier. I almost felt like she was avoiding us because she realized it had been such a long time. The pizzas were good. Tasty. I would certainly eat them again. The salad was great. I'm happy with the food, but the service was subpar. The ambiance was fine. This was our second time dining at Salvatore's, but the first time I left agreeing wholeheartedly with the restaurant's popularity. We parked for free in the connected parking garage, and were able to walk right into the building without going outside. We arrived early for our reservation (5:30PM on a Thursday), but were seated and served immediately. Our meal came with some of the fastest service I've experienced in a while, with the whole process (entering the establishment to requesting our check) taking around 30 minutes. We didn't feel rushed at all, our waiter Mya and the kitchen staff were just on their A game! Our meals were hot and delicious. The handmade bucatini in my dish were delectable and cooked to perfection. I told my partner over dinner that this was my favorite pasta dish I've had in Madison this far. The build-your-own tomato pie was also fantastic, a special shout-out to the crispy crust and yummy cheese. The cocktail, although smaller portioned, was made very well. Another shoutout to our waiter Mya, who never let our water glasses get low, and frequently checked on us regarding the status of our order and later around the satisfaction of our meal. I've been coming to Salvatore's for the past 4 or 5 years and the vegan supreme is still one of the best vegan pizzas in town. I've tried some of their other vegan dishes here and there (pasta and meatballs, chocolate cake) and they're pretty good, but that pizza is hard to stray from! The Livingston location is usually busy, especially if you're trying to go before a concert at the Sylvee, but it never takes too long to get a table. Their online ordering makes it's easy to do a pickup as well. It's lively and cool inside and there's an option to dine on the patio in the warmer months. I ordered pizza from Salvatore's for a get together with some friends about a week ago and it was terrific. I got a 16" supreme and it was just great. So a couple days ago I thought I'd order that again and freeze what was leftover so I'd have something quick to eat that was really good. Unfortunately it was an entirely different pizza. I don't think there was any cheese on it and the "sausage" was little hunks of unidentifiable meat-like objects that I was actually gagging on. I threw the whole pizza away--it was just not edible. I contacted them and their answer was to give me a discount coupon for when I order again. It's just too expensive to order pizza and get something completely * not* what you ordered unless you're trying something new which I was not. So eat here at your own risk. We had 5:30 reservations prior to a 7:00 show at the Sylvee. The server was informed of this. 8 in the party. It was a full hour after we sat down and we still did not see the 4 pizzas we ordered. We informed the server and were told we were next up. Not even close. I saw door dash and Uber eats drivers walking in and out with pizzas. I watched people seated after us being served. Told the sever again we were running against the clock. Be right out ahead said. 10 minutes later we got 3 out of 4 pizzas, which were arm at best. Last pizza came out 5 minutes later. We got our bill and the 20% gratuity had been added automatically. I live Salvatore's usually, but this was just a bad experience. Not once did anyone check in on us. Salvatore's- do better. The server was quick and ready to take our order with a smile, GREAT service is not so common so I was very happy. We got the Fat uncle tony and the tomato pie with extra sauce. They consider it "share-plate" style and you can order all at once, order a few dishes here and there, or order more as you polish your dish and regret not ordering the whole menu. We got the crispy tofu and lions head meatballs (both vegan options) and the BBQ pork pizza (no pork but rest of ingredients include: grilled bok choy, shiitake mushrooms, Gouchujang BBQ sauce, red onions, kimchi, mozzarella, scallion and cilantro. I did a to-go order of the El Mapache Loco burger for burger week (I think this was a limited time special). Description of the burger from the site: Fajita-seasoned Wells Farm beef, stuffed with roasted poblano peppers, caramelized onions, mozzarella, and Hook's 1 year cheddar, topped with pico, adobo lime aioli. Served with chorizo fundido fries. I ordered online with delayed pickup time and naturally I still managed to get there 20 min late. Surprisingly, the fries didn't get soggy in that time in a box! Probably not as crisp as fresh from the fryer but still good crisp. I think the fries were covered with melted/fried cheese and bits of chorizo, and it had a hearty taste. The burger was fine but as I was eating it while chatting with a friend (ie not fully concentrating on the food), I didn't really notice an interesting play of flavors like I was hoping. Instead of having contrasting flavors with each bite, it melded together for a more uniform flavor I couldn't quite place. Another reason I really like Sal's is their menu. I was able to try out some of the dishes during restaurant week and it was perfection. The beef short rib with the wild mushroom risotto is a must get. Every bite was so decadent. Plenty of seating. Make sure you make reservations (Resy). Parking in the garage or street parking. Didn't make it to #1 on my Favorite Pizza in Madison list (a very unimportant list), but that's no knock--everyone on our enjoyed their pizza and ate every bite. Stopped in with a friend for dinner. We shared two 10" pizzas - the Woodsman and the Forza.The Woodsman was all the mushroomy goodness you can imagine. We honestly wanted to order everything, but we got the fries and vegan szechuan meatballs which as apps which were to die for. Some of the crispiest fries I've ever had, don't sleep on them!
