Came here on a Thursday evening and sat at the bar. Service was pretty good in terms of manners and time it took to serve us, but they didn't have the ingredients for first two drinks we tried to order so that was slightly inconvenient. Nonetheless, the quality of the food was really good and we got a free dessert after checking in on Yelp so that was really nice! The drink was very strong in tequila so I'd only recommend it if you enjoy the taste of it. The pizza was really delicious as well, the crust was very quality and there was a good distribution of toppings. Come for the wow experience!! It's decorated for Christmas and it's got a great vibe. Service could use a whole lot of work. Lots of folks talking and ignoring customers. It's like "we're an after thought" part of my order was NOT keyed in (soups) I inquired about them twice. Then the waiter stopped back and said. "Oh you must have enjoyed the soups" I said They never came!!! By now they were delivering our entrees. He asked if we still wanted our soups. Well hell no we DON'T! The whole evening was this way. I ordered a Holiday Cocktail only to half the items that were supposed to come with it missing. Ie..WHIP CREAM, toppings etc. when I asked where they were they stated "oh we are out of them tonight". Perhaps telling me before I ordered that item might have been SMART! After thought. I felt the whole evening the customers were afterthoughts. I have been frequenting Lucille since fall 2021, and the highlights I previously mentioned still hold true! My most recent visit was on Sunday, December 10th, and although there were no openings for a table for two, bar seating was available. The bar is full service, and the restaurant was beautifully decorated for the holidays as seen in the pictures provided. I usually feel uncomfortable sitting at a bar but their bar seating is very comfortable and the wait staff is always very attentive and friendly. I ordered the mediterranean pizza which is my absolute favorite pizza they have, as well as the only dish I have ever ordered from Lucille. Also pictured is a build your own pizza with pepperoni, green peppers, and red onions. One thing I greatly appreciate about Lucille is that their menu never drastically changes, at least I haven't noticed it drastically change for lunch and dinner. Since I have a favorite dish, this allows me to continue to order it. Their menu is very large as well so diners can easily branch out, but I appreciate them keeping their classic pizzas. The space of the restaurant is one of my favorite things about it, I love their bar in the center with the open upstairs as well. I have heard great reviews about their social lounge in the basement which I look forward to visiting. To me this restaurant is a Madison staple due to its location, atmosphere, and menu variety, but if you plan to dine with a group of at least 4 I would book a reservation in advance. read more

The food is average for wood fired pizza. It's pricey for drinks and average pizza. It's open inside and loud- I wouldn't recommend it for a small intimate romantic dinner. Our waiter wasn't great (lots of empty plates left on our table) after we finished appetizers. It's on the square so it's a fun location. Lucille's has a presence that invites you and leaves you wanting more. The location is lovely, located in Madison near the capital. When you walk in you're welcomed by kind smiling staff and a beautiful and large bar and dining area. I did not have a reservation when I arrived on a late Sunday evening and has to wait 15 minutes for a table to become available. While waiting I enjoyed a drink at the bar, which was delicious. I ended up choosing the Painkiller which was SO very refreshing, it made me feel like taking a trip to a sandy beach sometime soon. Ambiance: Once our table became available, we walked up a stairway following our waitress to our table which was near a large window which overlooked Madison's beautiful streets. It also gave view yo the bar just below. The restaurant had a very rustic feel to it. Very beautiful and aesthetically pleasing. The energy that's given off in a restaurant and it's set up is important to me, it was a very comforting environment. Our waitress was lovely very kind and informative, shout-out to her. I love seeing diversity in the staff of places I like to frequent. I hope she made a lot of tips that evening. Drinks & Apps: I ordered another Painkiller drink from the waitress and ordered cheese curds and a beef empanada to split with my friend. The drink as previously mentioned was great, so fruity, sweet and refreshing. The cheese curds were very Wisconsin, perfectly seasoned and crispy on the outside melts in the middle ( yum, cheese pull anyone). The empanada was a bit disappointing to be honest, it definitely has potential. The meat was seasoned somewhat well and you could taste the olive in it, the actual dough of the shell was very pie-crusty. As a Puerto Rican woman, they just didn't meet my own standards since empanadas are one of my absolute faves. It's possible that is how they are meant to taste for that specific Latin country. Either way, I just wasn't a fan of that item, however the dipping sauce was great. The main event: The famous pizza that I've heard so much about, the woodfire pizza was crisp and delicious. Very flavorful, every bite was giving savory goodness. The veggies were perfectly crisp and fresh. The meat seasoned well and not too oily. It was very good. I did add a lot of chili flakes because I love a little spice with my meals. Overall: It was a lovely experience, I would come back again to try some different things on their menu and dessert next time as well. I would give it a 4.7/5. I highly recommend. read more

Update: I returned to Lucille after speaking with Tara, a manager. She was very attentive to our negative experience and offered to have us back at the restaurant. She made a reservation for us and we stopped by on our way to Devils Lake Park. We were seated right away outside and our dog was allowed to be with us on the patio. He started with a round of drinks which did come much more quickly this time but I will note that we were there at about 430 on a Friday so it was not very busy. We then ordered the umami chicken thin crust pizza and the specialty Detroit style pizza which came with squash, arugula, and a balsamic glaze. The umami pizza was pretty disappointing. I felt like the chicken was pre-cooked and had kind of an off taste, my husband agreed. Our sausage and rabe thin crust last time was much better. The Detroit style specialty pizza though... Was delicious! It had the perfect crust and the flavors were very unique. I would come back just for this pizza! We also enjoyed our drinks. They have a lot of local options which we enjoyed. I tried the New Glarus Cran-Lambic, a local only fruit ale. Very good! Tara gave us complimentary blueberry daiquiri shots (which I personally wouldn't normally take) but they were tasty! We also got the cookie skillet which my husband said was phenomenal. I'm partial to BJs brewhouse Pizookie but I agree it was still tasty! Overall, even though we didn't enjoy the umami pizza, between the service, the dedication to correcting a negative experience, and the other items we ordered... I'm going to give Lucille a five. Came for Saturday lunch in February. We got in soon after they opened, at 11:30. We were seated right away and out by 12:15! Service was good, a little slow, but we were in no rush and enjoyed the cool atmosphere - lots of fun things to look at inside - the bar is fun and they know how to make some good drinks! We went really simple with a house Bloody Mary and a screwdriver. Love the fresh OJ and house made bloody mix. Drinks were awesome. We ordered a 10" wood fired pizza. We thought about ordering the 14", but the 10" was perfect for 2 people for lunch without leftovers. This pizza was AWESOME!! Lucille! A fitting name for the ball we had! We had two separate reservations: one for 6 and one for 8. Instead of separating us, the waitress helped accommodate all of us in the same area, which definitely cheered everyone up! The sound of jazz welcomed us as we walked in and kept going throughout our meal. To continue the festivities, my coworker and I got a pitcher of the margarita. The margarita wasn't overpowering at all. For food, we got the Detroit Style Cheese Pizza (FYI: order this at the start because it takes a while) and the Sausage and Rabe pizza. Both pizzas were great (flavourful red sauce, fluffy bread, and not to mention their spectacles of cheese pulls). I've been to Madison more than a few times coming from Milwaukee. I thought I'd been to most of the hip and happening restaurants and pubs in Madison. Little had I realized I missed Lucille's. Looking for a bite to eat and somewhere centrally located with immediate access we came upon Lucille's. Located right downtown near the Capital this was a pleasant surprise and I was shocked I never stopped in before. Walking in you realize the size of the space. Bright and open concept taken to a whole new level. The upstairs was as spacious and charming as the downstairs where we sat at the bar. One thing I noticed immediately is how cozy Lucille's is. Typically, in these massive bars you get a rush of cold and drafts coming in especially with the windows and large openness. Not here! We were warm and cozy which made me happy. Next up food and beer. With a nicely placed wood fired oven in the back Lucille's was cranking out the goods. This place is perfect for a quick bite or snack. Bar food at its best! The cheese curds were particularly good, so good in fact we ordered two orders. Served with an excellent marinara sauce and ranch these were some damn good curds. I'd place them up there with the best. The other favorite was the beer selection. Lucille's has some solid beers on tap and rotates regularly. As an ode' to winter and the 2/14/2020 beer list I enjoyed a couple of Imperial Stouts one Russian and one Imperial. Served at just the right temp and in the correct glassware, a large snifter glass, I was loving it! I tried the Nexus of the Universe from Third Space Brewing and another called Sixpoint Master Blend from Brooklyn, NY. Both were equally on point and I was more than pleased. Lucille is a perfect restaurant for social gatherings and drinks. The pizza is good and their black bean empanada is GREAT! However the prices are more expensive than I think they should be. We got an arugula salad that was $18 and there wasn't much to it besides arugula and a dressing. The pizza was $28 for 8 slices. It was all tasty though. When we went on a Saturday night, they had a menu dedicated to supporting planned parenthood. For every purchase, Lucille would donate $1 towards it. Love that! Awesome atmosphere, GREAT beer list, very friendly staff, and for the most part - great food. Went with a total of four people so we shared a bunch of apps and one pizza. Quesa Birria Tacos, amazing. Beef epanadas, amazing. Cheese curds, really good. I personally thought the Cubano Calzone was really good, but the others at the table didn't really agree. The one item that was a big miss was the nachos. Maybe just a quarter of the chips had the cheese, queso, sour cream, etc. on them. The rest of the chips were just plain tortilla chips. Thankfully we only did the 1lb order and not 3lb. And then the sausage fest pizza was delicious! Overall, when you order six items and 4-5 of the items are delicious I would call that a successful meal. We visit Madison a couple times a year and we will definitely be back! read more

The food is awesome. I would say their cheese curds are the best one I've ever tasted. I don't seek cheese curds that often so don't be offended by this statement. Their Detroit pizza was not really my thing. The cheese was a bit burned at the crust but that was expected to happen. It did make the cheese a bit rubbery to taste. I loved their wood fired pizzas. The El Cocavi and Sausage and Rabe were my favorite. I liked how the texture and taste of the dough. It reminded of papa John but fancier. The bacon fat on El Cocavi made the pizza so flavorful and tasty. Loved the Brussels sprouts on there as well. They were a bit charred and dry but still delicious. A HUGE thank you to Lucille on this #THANKFULTHURSDAY! Lucille is one of my favorite places in Madison. They have the best location, view, pizza, patios, and atmosphere in the Madison area in my opinion. Location: The location is right downtown on the square just steps away from the Wisconsin State Capitol. There's a ton to do around Lucille as well! There are plenty of shops, restaurants, bars, etc. View: Whether you're inside or outside, there's a gorgeous view of Wisconsin State Capitol. At night, it's all lit up and is beautiful. Patio: In the summer, the view is incredible! In the winter, it's incredible as well and they even have heaters! Atmosphere: The inside is so trendy and cute! They have gorgeous high ceilings and decor. The bar area is super cute and is in a unique triangle shape. There's an upstairs banister area to eat as well and it has a view of the entire restaurant. It's super cute as well, the view is even better because you can see the top of the capitol! They are constantly having fun events like Miracle for Christmas and Haunting on King Street. For Miracle, they deck the whole place out in Christmas lights, decor, wrapping paper, etc. They have other holiday decor as well! For Haunting, it's decked out in Halloween decor. For both, there's holiday drinks and menu items. Food and Drink: Some of the best! I'm a big fan of the pink chimney drinks. Super delicious, a touch sweet, not overly sweet! Their other drinks are good too. The cheese curds, salads, and pizza are absolutely delicious. There are tons of pizza options and crust types too. I love all of the different crusts! I tried Detroit style for the first time here and am obsessed! So yummy. Morality: I love that they support BLM and have the sign up to make their stance clear. I also love all the work they do with charity. I know they've had controversy in the past due to the past owner but it seems like they are currently supporting the right things and are making a difference in the community! So on the Monday during the week between the holidays we stopped in - it was pretty quiet. We grabbed seats at the bar and chatted with the bartender while considering what M drink to order. I opted for a Moscow Mule and my wife a Margarita - both were nicely crafted. The bartender was very friendly and guided us in ordering some food. The food menu is pretty small - pizzas and tacos and some bowls and snacks. None of these menu items were your typical versions. We opted for the whitefish Baja Tacos and the Mojo Pork Tacos. They were very good but the best part was the side of red beans and rice which were excellent. This was not your typical beans and rice side you would find with tacos but a New Orleans version - surprisingly super tasty! We will be back to try their wood fired pizza. I stopped in yesterday with a friend for a quick drink. The place was semi busy at about 5:15pm, but we were told there was an hour wait because of incoming reservations. There was seating at the bar, so we headed there without a problem. My friend ordered the Paloma which was good and tart if you're into Tequila. I wanted something fruity, so I tried the Jungle Bird. It was perfect. Not too sweet and not heavily booze forward. It was wonderful for a hot summer day of strolling around. The bartender serving us got the job done but wasn't overly friendly. This place is really cool. Anna C was our server and she was fantastic! She was very accommodating and attentive. We had the pork nachos, a wood fired pizza and flourless brownie. All very tasty but the brownie was excellent. The cocktail menu was really cool but we were here for lunch and didn't have anything this time around. Next time for sure.
