Width of "family size" ( fits 4 chicken strips)

DO NOT EAT HERE. This place was substandard for food quality AT BEST and the people that work here are RUDE LIARS. We ordered carry out tonight. A FAMILY SIZED honey chicken. It came with 4 chicken strips, TWO PIECES of broccoli and less than one cup of rice. When I called to complain, the idiot insisted he had had no orders of honey chicken family size that night. HE LIED. I gave him the order number. I gave him the phone number. We had only picked it up 5 minutes ago. Nope. No orders. When I protested he insisted. So I drove back food and receipt in hand. And showed him the portion. He insisted it was the same family size "they've had for THIRTY YEARS". Again a lie. Since we've been ordering from here for the last 8 years the SAME ORDER I am confident of this statement. The food was always subpar. Usually they would mess up the hot sour soup (ask for no mushrooms get a bowl full of them). We carry out or have delivery because of how disgusting the dining area is. But for how minimally acceptable (shoot-we need dinner-let's order in) the food is the service is even worse. Your best bet in Monona is frozen dinner PF Chang entrees at Pick N Save. Skip these a holes.

I was so craving Chinese food, so I ordered the Four Seasons, Chicken Egg Foo Young and Triple Delight. Got it home and literally could NOT tell which was which - why? Because all three were drenched in a tasteless, gleaming gelatinous, thick brown sauce (sauce is a stretch). Even my cats turned their noses up, and that was after I rinsed the gelatinous substance off in a colander. Totally killed my taste for Chinese food. Don't believe me? The pictures tell a 1000 words.

Don't order the Lo Mein, it's not actually Lo Mein, it's spaghetti noodles, and don't bother asking for extra vegetables and pay the extra $1 because you won't get it anyway. This is the second time my order has come like this. $30 for spaghetti noodles.. thanks a lot.

Happy Wok is a really solid and fast place for takeout. My fiancé gets it with the guys on his hour lunch. He's always been happy and always wants to get it for dinner. The sweet and sour chicken was a good deal, the taste was a tad bland but it did taste like most sweet and sour's I've had. The rice was good the first and second day. The meal that you're buying gives you enough food for a few nights. The crab Rangoons were ok, not oily and sweet but the ratio was off. The size of them are a little small, but you get a few in the bag. I really did like the egg roll, it was a decent size, crispy. It was a good meal with a couple nitpicks, but I'd get this again. Maybe try something else on the menu.

For your typical Chinese take-out, Happy Wok is very good, and I would definitely order from here again. My order was ready very quickly, and staff was very nice and efficient when I picked it up. I ordered the chicken lo mein, and it is probably the best I've had from any Chinese takeout before. There was a good amount of chicken and veggies in addition to the noodles. The sauce was a darker brown than I have seen used in lo mein, but it was AMAZING. The portion is very generous and could probably feed four people... but I literally couldn't stop myself and ate the whole thing it was that yummy! Totally worth it. I also ordered the crab rangoon. The sweet and sour sauce that came with it was fine, but it was abnormally thick and gelatin-like. To be fair, I don't love sweet and sour. I usually eat crab rangoon without sauce, so that didn't impact my review. While the inside of the crab rangoon was likewise DELICIOUS and some of my favorite I've ever had, there was sooooo little of it that I ended up peeling off about 80% of each piece because it was just plain crust/dough. Even the puff part that holds the filling seemed sadly empty. I wouldn't order it again, but if they got a bit more generous on their fillings, I definitely would cuz like I said, it was super tasty. Next time you're in the mood for some Chinese food, this is definitely the place to order from!

    Delicious-ness!

I also love that they allow you to put two different bases in your bowl - two servings of rice in the bowl is way too much and I love getting to add in some greens instead. I don't think I ever would have thought to combine a salad and rice bowl. It's perfection. They have delicious protein options, fresh veggies, and somehow this healthy concoction I build is absolutely delicious. I started with the power bowl, and now I do a make-your-own grain bowl that is basically a modified power bowl. My go-to creation is mixed greens, black rice, lentils, broccoli, carrot, goat cheese, and a protein (usually chicken) topped with the green goddess. Absolute yum. This is my go-to takeout spot. I try to order ahead because it takes forever to order in the store. I rarely eat in, but the few times I have there are plenty of tables, the place is light and clean. The bathrooms are shared with the whole building and I'm not sure if anyone tends to them, but hey it works. It's just so nice to have a healthy option and while it's not cheap, their pricing is reasonable for what you get. So long as it stays affordable, I'm hooked!

Hot-N-Spicy is one of my all time favorite restaurants which remains a cultural culinary gem!…read moreMadison, WI is beyond blessed to have Hot-N-Spicy which is the most authentic SouthEast Asian restaurant in the Madison area that shares the culture of countries like Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam with the community through their incredible delicious food/cuisine! They truly live up to their name "Hot-N-Spicy" and the cultural significance of the Thai chili pepper which is a food symbol of Thailand which often represents hospitality, warmth, and resilience! They bring all the spice and don't hold back! If you are not used to spice/spicy hot dishes, I suggest you start at level one spice and work your way up. They will ask you on dishes made with chili peppers what spice level you want 1-4 and can even make it hotter also! Hot-N-Spicy is genuinely unique because they offer Issan food dishes and flavors that is uniquely from the Issan/Isan Northeast region of Thailand that is heavily influenced by Lao and Cambodian flavors with the use of heat, fresh herbs, and the heavy use of fermented fish sauce that brings different flavors different from other regions of Thailand. As an update, Hot-N-Spicy used to be located in the back of the Viet Hoa Market. It is now located next door from the market in a larger space in the same strip mall that allows for a more comfortable sit-down seating experience of a full restaurant. I have tried almost everything on their menu and have never been disappointed! For appetizers, I love their angel wings which are deboned chicken wings stuffed with chicken, carrot, and bean thread noodles fried to pure crispy perfection! Their most popular selling appetizers are their amazingly addictively delicious crab rangoons! Their chicken satay is also a must try! I also recommend trying their beef jerky which is so delicious, it often sells out quickly during the day! Their main entrees are so outstanding, it is hard just to order one entree! My absolute favorite that I recommend is their steak Laab which is the best Laab I have had in Madison! It is heavily influenced with Isaan flavors/culture with minced beef, tripe, red onion, cilantro, mint, fresh lime juice, rice powder, fish sauce and scallions. I love the beef steak Laab because it is unlike anything you will ever taste with so much flavor from a combination of flavors with hint of sour with the lime, salty/umami/pungence from the fish sauce, balanced with refreshing different herbs, texture with the tripe, while the toasted rice powder gives this dish a tiny bit of crunch/texture that gives a subtle nutty flavor! This dish is a minced meat salad traditionally eaten with your hands and sticky rice/vegetables like cucumber. I also really enjoy their Pad Thai, Pho, and Crispy Noodle Lad Na! Your visit wouldn't be complete without quenching your thirst with either their Thai iced coffee/tea! Hot-N-Spicy remains at the top of my list for Thai/Lao cuisine! If you are looking for true authentic flavors/traditionally prepared dishes, definitely try Hot-N-Spicy!

The combination of romaine, cucumbers, carrots, cilantro, mint, homemade daikon, and the crispy fried egg roll wrapper created the perfect balance of freshness and crunch. The nem nuong dipping sauce was so good that I ordered extra. I also tried the Panang Red Curry, and it was outstanding. The curry was rich, creamy, slightly sweet, and packed with flavor. I ordered level 1 spice, and it was the perfect amount of heat without overwhelming the dish. The homemade curry paste, coconut milk, basil, peppers, and jasmine rice came together beautifully. It's also been great to see this local business grow. What started as a takeout spot inside Viet Hoa Market has expanded into a larger space on Monona Drive, and it's easy to see why. The food is consistently delicious, the portions are generous, and the new location offers plenty of seating. If you're craving fresh spring rolls, flavorful curry, or simply a great meal, Hot N Spicy is absolutely worth a visit. Added bonus the service was AMAZING!!!
