I got food poisoning and will never order from here again. The first time, I thought well that could be a fluke but not the second time. Both times I went to urgent care to find out if it was what I thought and yes...it was food poisoning. The second time was for 5 days, which made me darn mad. I live nearby and noticed they had left their deliveries outside. That is a no-no. Then they put up walling so you can't see but I still peeked and saw they hadn't changed. That aside, the woman and the man that worked there are nice. I was in a walking boot for a while and used a scooter; she brought my order out one time and helped me another time. I just wish the food was better. I feel they don't change the oil often enough, the food isn't fresh and that maybe it's not being handled correctly or the frozen food isn't stored/defrosted at the right temp. I also think they cut corners and reuse old, defrosted food. Either way...I'm disappointed with the number of times I've been feed bad food in this state. I've travelled to Cananda and across the US, Wisconsin is one of the few states where I've gotten food poisoning this many times. read more

DO NOT EAT HERE. This place was substandard for food quality AT BEST and the people that work here are RUDE LIARS. We ordered carry out tonight. A FAMILY SIZED honey chicken. It came with 4 chicken strips, TWO PIECES of broccoli and less than one cup of rice. When I called to complain, the idiot insisted he had had no orders of honey chicken family size that night. HE LIED. I gave him the order number. I gave him the phone number. We had only picked it up 5 minutes ago. Nope. No orders. When I protested he insisted. So I drove back food and receipt in hand. And showed him the portion. He insisted it was the same family size "they've had for THIRTY YEARS". Again a lie. Since we've been ordering from here for the last 8 years the SAME ORDER I am confident of this statement. The food was always subpar. Usually they would mess up the hot sour soup (ask for no mushrooms get a bowl full of them). We carry out or have delivery because of how disgusting the dining area is. But for how minimally acceptable (shoot-we need dinner-let's order in) the food is the service is even worse. Your best bet in Monona is frozen dinner PF Chang entrees at Pick N Save. I was so craving Chinese food, so I ordered the Four Seasons, Chicken Egg Foo Young and Triple Delight. Got it home and literally could NOT tell which was which - why? Because all three were drenched in a tasteless, gleaming gelatinous, thick brown sauce (sauce is a stretch). Even my cats turned their noses up, and that was after I rinsed the gelatinous substance off in a colander. Totally killed my taste for Chinese food. Don't believe me? I order from here occasionally.  Everything has always been good.  Last night however, that was not the case. The chicken and shrimp were really bad. The shrimp was soggy and the chicken overcooked.  I'd bet the oil is quite old, cause it tasted like it. In a quart of soup, there was 2, just 2 lonely wontons. No veggies in the chicken noodle soup.  The broth in both soups were tasty. The delivery driver was friendly. I knew I was taking a chance on the quality of the chicken noodle soup but some veggies would have really taken it up a notch. read more

Happy Wok is a really solid and fast place for takeout. My fiancé gets it with the guys on his hour lunch. He's always been happy and always wants to get it for dinner. The sweet and sour chicken was a good deal, the taste was a tad bland but it did taste like most sweet and sour's I've had. The rice was good the first and second day. The meal that you're buying gives you enough food for a few nights. The crab Rangoons were ok, not oily and sweet but the ratio was off. The size of them are a little small, but you get a few in the bag. I really did like the egg roll, it was a decent size, crispy. It was a good meal with a couple nitpicks, but I'd get this again. We were searching for a new go to place for Chinese take-out after our old standby had gone downhill during Covid. So we gave the Wok a shot. We ordered take-out since it was much faster than getting it delivered and saved the delivery fee. We got an order of the hot spicy garlic pork which was very good. The General Tso was just OK but the shrimp in lobster sauce was solid. With a coupon we got a free order of chicken fried rice which was just average. We have ordered many times, and about every third or fourth time an item is forgotten in the order. Apparently, it takes too much time to verify the order, and they just say they were busy. So they take your number and you can drive back sometime and pick it up. read more

For your typical Chinese take-out, Happy Wok is very good, and I would definitely order from here again. My order was ready very quickly, and staff was very nice and efficient when I picked it up. I ordered the chicken lo mein, and it is probably the best I've had from any Chinese takeout before. There was a good amount of chicken and veggies in addition to the noodles. The sauce was a darker brown than I have seen used in lo mein, but it was AMAZING. The portion is very generous and could probably feed four people... but I literally couldn't stop myself and ate the whole thing it was that yummy! Totally worth it. I also ordered the crab rangoon. The sweet and sour sauce that came with it was fine, but it was abnormally thick and gelatin-like. To be fair, I don't love sweet and sour. I usually eat crab rangoon without sauce, so that didn't impact my review. While the inside of the crab rangoon was likewise DELICIOUS and some of my favorite I've ever had, there was sooooo little of it that I ended up peeling off about 80% of each piece because it was just plain crust/dough. Even the puff part that holds the filling seemed sadly empty. I wouldn't order it again, but if they got a bit more generous on their fillings, I definitely would cuz like I said, it was super tasty. A wide variety of vegetables with the chicken fried rice at a decent price, more than enough for two people ready for pickup within 20 minutes. YES! This is my favorite Happy Wok location in Madison, and while they sever typical Chinese take-out, the additional star is for their consistency and efficiency! They are on it the minute you order, and food is generally ready within 10 minutes! It's great for a quick and affordable bite. My usual orders are Combination Lo Mein and Happy Hunan Family (both extra spicy!!). One of my lo mein pet peeves is spaghetti noodles--they do not use a spaghetti noodles here and the shrimp is always large (another Chinese take-out peeve). I usually stick with those two and have only tried a few other items, including: edamame (portion is generous, and only $2.50!), boneless spare ribs (on the sweet side for me), egg drop soup (can't really go wrong here), fried rice (not a huge fan but great for my son!), chicken & broccoli and egg rolls. I've been coming here for years and recently discovered the Dragon & Phoenix (combo of shrimp/mixed veggies & General Tso's chicken) and Kato's chicken/Peppered Steak combos--I love that you can get a variety with these orders! They also have a "special diet" menu, where dishes with low-sodium are listed. There is no drive up at this location, but space is always clean when we go. I recently stopped by late Friday night (9:40'ish), ate in, and was not rushed whatsoever. Take out orders continued to come in and they didn't even lock up/turn their "Open" sign off. I've been eating at Happy Wok for years. It is right next to where I used to work, but it is also the best Chinese I have found in Madison. I stop there and pickup takeout anytime I am in Madison. I typically order General Tso, Happy Family (no mushrooms), chicken fried rice and Crab Rangoons. General Tso is a solid go-to. Sometimes it is spicier than other times. You can order it really spicy and they have extra chili sauce if you want. Happy Family normally comes with a lot of mushrooms. I'm not a fan so I order no mushrooms. It comes with three shrimp along with chicken and beef. It also has slices of very large carrot, it should be nice if they reduced them, somehow, cut them in half or just used thinner carrots. The lo mein is good, too, but comes with a lot of celery. The sweet and sour chicken is good. The sweet and sour sauce is the same as what comes with the crab rangoons. I'm not a fan of their eggrolls of any flavor, they all seem kinds mushy inside. And I've not really tried any of the other things they make. Eat-in and takeout service are both super fast, I've never had it delivered. read more

Was in the mood for Chinese and used my Apple Maps to look up places in the area and it brought me to this little Chinese restaurant and I walked in and was greeted by the lady at the counter with a smile and warm welcome and she passed along a paper menu which by the way had alot of options and I settled for a fried rice and a few egg rolls. Everything was made as asked (I'm picky at times) and extremely tasty, fresh hot and fairly priced considering the prices of food costs going up over the last few years. and as I finished up the lady again asked how everything was and insisted on getting me a to go bag for my leftovers and yes the portions were decent sized so I had some left over. I have had some good experiences (at the one in South Town) and some so-so experiences (like giving me no fork or napkins) at the Monona location. The food will hit the spot...nothing really bad...but nothing that screams this is a special place. Bottom line is I will eat there again. read more

Just got done with delivery. Hot & Sour Soup: Rockin - but FYI has shrimp in it for those allergic to shellfish. Fried Dumplings: Pretty good. Dipping sauce doesn't have enough ginger or sesame. Spicy Happy Family: Meh. Not spicy, even after requesting spicy, and just not very flavorful. Singapore Me Fun: Meh. Bland but for chili flake. All in all, doubtful we will order again, unless just for soup, and make my own dipping sauce, or tweak theirs for the dumplings. read more
