    Lomo saltado

pikkito is such a hidden gem omg. my mom actually found it on yelp and we decided to try it and i'm so glad we did. it was so fun and ethnic inside and had such a cozy vibe. our server was super nice and even gave us free drinks which was so sweet. he didnt know that much english but there were other people who did so it wasn't really an issue at all. my mom got the lomo saltado which is beef with fries and rice. i thought it was okay but the green sauce was the star of the show. it added so much flavor. i got the mostrito and it was actually amazing. it came with a quarter rotisserie chicken that was so tender and had the perfect amount of flavor, plus fried rice, fries, and a small salad. all the flavors worked so well together and it was honestly so good for the price. i couldn't even finish it and had leftovers for the next day. it paired really well with their yellow sauce which tasted like it might be egg yolk based or something but idk it was really good. the service was so nice and it made me sad that it wasn't more crowded because they deserve more love. i would definitely come back for that mostrito again.

Run, don't walk! What an unreal dining experience. The most surprising part was that it's tucked away in a small strip mall. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting and the service was spot-on. Very attentive and kind staff. The food is next level. Every dish that came out was hearty and packed with flavor. You can tell there's real passion and authenticity behind the menu. The portions were generous but balanced, and the signature sauces were out of this world. It was just effortlessly good. For appetizers we tried the yuca and ceviche, which tasted so fresh with the perfect balance of acidity. Our table tried the lomo soltado, 1/4 chicken and creole bowl. We all nearly licked our plates clean. I've had a lot of Peruvian food in the states and this was by far my favorite. We tried all three desserts as well. Top of the list was the flan, which we dug into before we could snap a photo. It was hands down one of the best I've had. The texture and consistency were spot on. We also had the tres leches (pictured) and alfajores. None of the desserts felt overly sweet, which is perfect for my taste. While I no longer drink, they did appear to have a bar. I will definitely be back again when I'm in town.

This visit was a reminder of when they get it right it's incredible. But in truth, the previous two visits, they failed at this, due primarily (how I chose to justify the error) because they were very busy on those two consecutive visits on a Friday night during a dinner rush. That was early last June, which I recall because it happened to have been my sisters birthday. I was let down enough that I didn't want to return for the foreseeable future. In May it happened the first time which I figured as a forgivable mistake. Last night I just wanted pizza and it had to be done in the way that I prefer. Plus I had earlier this week noticed that the University Ave location had closed down, which I learned when I asked, had happened in June as well. But this visit was not to be a sorry decision. Because they were slow, maybe at 40% capacity I was surprised when my pizza came out well before I was expecting it. At first peek, it looked great in the box. 27min later at home it was no longer hot but it smelled amazing. It also looked incredibly well made. Perfectly consistent spotting of the high gluten doughs edging and the texture was precisely what I was hoping for. Pulcinella is the usual pie that I always get, with added roasted garlic. Often I also request prosciutto as well but this time I wanted the pure basic taste I've come to adore.

Food: A nice selection of pizza, split between ones with and without tomato sauce. I got the Lombarda which has Gorgonzola Cream, Pears and Apricot Glaze and Arugula. My wife got a cheese, sausage, mushroom and onion (CSMO). Both of them came out, pipe hot, with nice crisp crust. Nice presentation for both pizzas. They were both good, but I was a bit underwhelmed with the Lombarda. If it had Apricot Glaze, it wasn't very noticable, and maybe was the reason that it needed a bit of salt to enhance the toppings. The CSMO was very flavorful, and clearly the better of the two. Service: Super friendly and helpful service, both when ordering and when the food was delivered. The cashier was patient and happy to give us advice on what their favorites were. Atmosphere: It's a small place. Some interesting vintage large photo print on the walls. You order at the counter, then take a seat at one of the tables along the left side of the restaurant. It looked like there were as many people picking up to-go orders, as there were dining in.
