Debbie is the best waitress and really holds this place together! I came with a large party including my grandparents who are regulars of Debbie here. The couple of times I have come here over the past few years they are usually quite busy and understaffed. This time there were multiple large parties as it was around Christmas time and so people were with their families. Debbie walked around the restaurant with a cart of takeout boxes, people's drinks, and their food. We all got our food in a reasonable time and she even turned me onto green Thai tea which was amazing! You are sure to have a great experience if you come in person. I think they often get overwhelmed from people being rude and impatient with takeout orders so just come in and as always be nice :).

    Burnt spring rolls

I recently ordered for takeout and upon arrival home found the spring rolls were burnt. They gave me a very hard time over the phone and finally agreed to my sending the below photo. They responded that they looked "maybe slightly more brown than usual." I only asked for this item to be refunded. She initially refused but ultimately said she would do it. And of course they never issued the refund. It's one thing to make a mistake but another to refuse to make it right. Will never return.

Can't really go wrong here, especially getting the soups during the Wisconsin winter! I got the Tom Ka - came out nice and hot, with generous portions of veggies. The flavoring was spot on with a nice amount of coconut milk for that creaminess and the chicken pieces were cut into nice bite-able portions. Also ordered the Thai-Iced tea which was delicious and not overly sweet! I've been to both locations and each are consistent in taste and service! If you're craving Thai, this is a good spot to satisfy it!

Went here last night (Wednesday). Arrived and was one of a handful of tables (I think there were 2 other tables at that point). We sat down, and waited a fairly long time (15+ minutes) to get someone to come by and ask for our drink order. Once we got our drink order, and some appetizers, we were asked about our entrees. It seemed like the wait staff was in a hurry. We ordered, and the food was very good! Truly enjoyed the dumplings, the chicken satay, and the toong thong as appetizers. I ordered the Khao Pad, and it was huge! Overall good, but not great. The portions make up for some of that, though. I'd eat here again when next in the area.

Gotten take out here a couple times but recently dined in for the first time and this place is so cute. The service was amazing and really quick. All time best menu items are the chicken egg roll, the number 42 (I get mine spice level 2 of 4) and the cucumber salad. Also got the pad Thai which was good but the 42 was way better. Had some left overs that reheated great and will definitely be back!

The people working at the cart were really nice and accommodating, and were happy to modify any dish they could for ingredients that you can't or don't eat. The first thing I tried was the squash curry, which was a really generous portion size for $7, consisting of rice topped with a rich coconut milk-based curry filled with chicken, kabocha, and zucchini. It was really filling and tasty. But the real winner from the cart after a few visits was the avocado spring roll, which was $3.50 and the size of a burrito. It was basically a giant fresh roll filled with avocado, lettuce, cabbage, mint, rice noodles, cucumber, carrot, and peanut sauce. We got the medium spicy sauce, and it had a fantastic kick to it. Still can't believe something so large was only a few dollars, as it was such a great deal. Definitely worth trying this cart if you're looking for something to eat on campus.

I ordered the following: 1) basil fried rice ($15) 2) hot and sour soup ($5) 3) broken rice with bbq pork ($19) ** Bonus, free egg rolls The price is ok, but the portion is small. 1) basil fried rice barely had any basil flavor, the broccoli took away any flavor left. The rice is soggy and the bamboo shoot seem like it comes out of a can. 2) hot and sour soup lack has some flavor. Still missing the sour part. Im addition, it is very thick, I think it has too much starch added to it. 3) the broken rice is not made with broken rice. It's made with the same rice as everything else. The bbq pork is drive, again lack seasoning. The fish sauce is so sweet. It's missing the salty part and flavorfulness. I think 3 stars is fair.

This, I believe, helps to keep their prices very reasonable! It's excellent service but it also appears family ran, so don't be surprised if you have to wait a bit for some attention if it's busy. The jasmine tea was a perfect blend of sweet floral that came through on the nose and mouth. Egg roll was fried to perfection accompanied by an amazing Thai ginger sauce with a bit of heat that was appreciated. Chang beer was recommended and served with a frosty glass. It was a champagne light beer that had great taste. Pad se ew was cooked perfectly and served with a creamy soy sauce that had a hint of sesame/peanut flavor coming through. Veggies were al dente (yum) and chicken was tender.

The workers and owners here at Hot 'n Spicy are very friendly and the larb siin, thum mak hoong, siin savanh, sai oua (medium), combo crispy lard nar, and sesame balls are the bomb! The larb's bitter and sour, with the beef tasting tender and juicy, just like how I like it and how I make it. The thum has the same fishy, pungent taste that I love, with super fresh papaya and tomatoes. These were the two dishes I ordered when I first checked out this restaurant in April 2022, and both taste just like how I remembered them. The siin savanh's flavorful (with hints of fish sauce and soy sauce), crisp, and tender. The sai oua's super juicy and tender, with spices, and is of the sweet variety (not the sour variety). The jeow som that comes with it is super garlicky and fishy, with a slight hint of spice, just as I'd want it like and how I'd make it myself. The lard nar has crispy noodles that were just right in terms of crisp and flavor (you can feel the crispy while still tasting the flavor of the wide rice noodles) and the protein's also the right level of tenderness (not tough at all)! I think the sauce uses more soy sauce than I'd like, as it's a bit heavier than what I make and see at most other restaurants, but that's no big deal. The sesame balls are warm, the perfect level of chewy, and generously filled. The bean filling's so tasty. They also aren't oily in the slightest! The (regular) sticky rice, purple, is fresh and is a generous option for the price. I wish the food were spicier, as I used to order this same spice level (their spiciest level) years back and found myself sweating and having a runny nose. I hope I might be able to order spicier than their spiciest level next time! I ordered a lot and they were in the middle of a lunch rush during my visit, but all my dishes came at a reasonable time. Also, my waitress, Alyssa (not sure if I spelled her name correctly since I didn't ask her how she spells it), made sure to check on me and other tables every few minutes to see how we were doing! After my meal, I love how Alyssa gave me some stickers, just as I love how I got to speak a little bit with the kitchen staff (as they were less busy by the time I was leaving)! I found it funny how some of them thought I was Kevin, a family friend of theirs. It was this amazing combination of food and service, which reminded me of my family and simpler times, that was the reason this restaurant was my go-to restaurant when I was a law school student at UW-Madison years back (even though this restaurant was out of my way and there were so many other Lao/Southeast Asian restaurants closer to where I was living). My visits here back then helped more than I could ever describe with combating all the stress I had (because law school was so difficult) and the loneliness I had (because I had no luck making friends at the time). Sadly, they didn't have Thai iced tea during my visit, so that'll be a reason for me to come back! I'll have to get their pho next time, as that's also a dish I ordered years ago and loved! Btw, this restaurant will soon be moving from inside of Viet Hoa Market to Mishqui Peruvian Bistro (same plaza), which will allow them to have more tables/seating and more hours, so I'll definitely be back after they've moved!
