Stopped by for lunch on a weekday with some friends. The customer service is great and plenty of seating. Order: Manchurian Frankie - 9/10 Full of flavor, paratha was cooked well. Dahi puri 9/10 Full of flavor and each puri if fully packed, but it gets soggy and breaks due to the weight. Veggie cheese sandwich - 8/10 We thought it was more like a grilled cheese sandwich but it was a grilled veggie sandwich with shredded cheese on top. Good mixture of vegetables but wished there was melted cheese inside. If you are going in a group, I recommend getting multiple items and everyone sharing so you can try a little bit of everything. Would stick with the more Northern Indian choices here-- all the dishes our family tried of the Northern dishes were very good. The coffee and Tea was also good. Named for a beach popular for it's street food in Bombay, this establishment has taken chaat to many corners of the globe, including my current backyard. I've seen a rendition of Bombay Chowpatty growing up in the Middle East, so it was a pleasant surprise to see one here as well (not sure if they are affiliated). While best known for their chaat (savory, inexpensive Indian street snacks), they also offer a number of other restaurant favorites from both the North and South of India. If you're looking for some sort of meat product, you won't find one here. Eggs are on the menu, so combined with a number of dishes made with dahi, it certainly isn't vegan, although vegans will find a lot of options. Vada pav is a Bombay staple, and this place does a great rendition of the same. For the uninitiated, it is a patty made of spicy potatoes sandwiched between two slider sized soft buns. There is also a spicy chutney that goes into this delectable sandwich, and it comes with a couple of fiery roasted green chilis on the side. Excellent start to the meal. Pav bhaaji is a staple of the chaat scene, and there are always plenty of vendors on the beaches of Bombay offering this dish. The pav was perfectly crisped on the inside and rubbed with the excess off cooking the bhaaji (vegetable gravy) and of course, there was plenty of butter involved. Do ask (and pay) for extra pav, because there's always more than enough bhaaji to go around. South India was next, and the coconut chutney provided to dip the soft idlis in was delectable. The sambar could've had more body though, I personally thought it was too thin to lend either the idlis or vadas a helping hand. Speaking of which, the (medhu) vadas were perfectly crisp on the outside and soft in the middle. The egg burji (scrambled eggs if you please) was tossed in plenty of spices, tomatoes, onions and finished off with a lot of cilantro. Pick them up with the toasted slices of bread provided, and you're golden. The end of the meal, unfortunately, was the let down. The onion and chili dosa was not crisp at all, limp to the touch, and hey, it'd have been nice if the onions were at least sweated a little. I mean, I'm not asking for brown onions, man, and not something raw enough to destroy my palate and make me taste little else (overpowered, nay, socked out any flavor that dared make an appearance). The sheer number of options and nostalgia that transports you back to that fabled city in India makes a trip to the Chowpatty worth it. Bombay Chowpatty needs to be shut down by the City of Irving or Texas Department of State Health Services. Our order included several items that tasted horrible, but the worst item was Vada Pav with potato stuffing that was sticky and rancid due to what was obviously a food storage violation (stored at room temperature for too long). We called Bombay Chowpatty to report this issue, and the manager became argumentative and suggested that we were lying because "no-one else complained". Bombay Chowpatty is a cesspool of vermin, and their food safety inspection results back this up. And to make matters worse, they are clueless about customer service. read more

Worst experience with desserts. First of all look at the tray in which they served us the dessert- says everything about the hygiene they follow. Stay away if you don't want to get sick. Secondly, the jalebi rabdi and rasmali were tasting and smelling sour, same like how it smells when the milk is spoilt. When i told this to the lady on the billing counter she was not ready to listen and said it's fine and left before i was able to complete my sentence - this says everything about how much they care about their customers. The reason we visit this place is for pani puri but it seems that the quality of pani is going down. While we were there last time, we tried paneer parantha. There is another place that we used to go for paani-poori but then Bombay chowpatty was closer. Our experience so far had been awesome until today. We asked the lady at the paani poori counter to add both ragda and potato in our poori but Mary won't do that. She refused it straightaway saying she can't do it, maybe extra work but we have been doing it for probably hundred times. I asked for manager but apparently there was none. 3 stars in my books after two visits. The good thing is that the place is quite clean. It's an open kitchen, we were able to find clean tables and the wash area was clean too. Extensive menu, lots of things to choose from! You order at the counter and are given a token number, you pick a table and collect your food when your number is called. It is street food, best eaten as and when it is made, so all your order won't arrive at the same time. It is frustrating that the big menu board next to the counter doesn't show any prices. Scan the counter, they do have a smaller printed menu if you need to check the prices. There's no description on the menu so if you are new to Indian street food, ordering may not be easy. I have never been asked for my desired spice level, so I assume it can't be adjusted. I have tasted quite a few things but sadly none of them made the cut as above average. The tava pulav was probably the best dish I have eaten here, spicy and flavorful. Paneer Frankie(wrap) did not have the flavor that one associates with Indian Frankie. It was more like paneer burji in a wrap. Had a huge hope on pav bhaji and batata vada, both very famous in Bombay but was disappointed. Uttappam, bhel puri, dabeli, veg club sandwich not one stood out. All of them a solid 3 stars. They have really not been able to recreate the flavors of Indian street food. It was my first time here and i am not sure if i am coming back again. The overall service was really poor. The same person taking order over phone, on the counter and packing to-go boxes. Consequently the waiting line crossed the door. Waiting time is even longer. Food portion is not good too considering the price. As we have been in other similar kind of shops, price seems little higher. Food taste is very average. No onion, no cilantro, no chilis on dahi puri?! Seriously! It tasted very bland. Papri chat was ok, though less spicy. Overall experience was not good. I really hope they were having less hands today, that's why i found it clumsy. This place is one of the best street food in Dallas. They serve pain puri over the counter, india style :) they have a variety of selection to choose from but all vegetarian options! I have tried multiple things and none disappointed. Some of my favorites are Masala Dosa, Pav Bhaji, Manchurian Frankie, Pani Puri. The chaats are really good too. They have good cold coffee and other drinks. Their chai isn't the best and could use a lot of improvement. The prices are fairly reasonable. They have an open kitchen in the middle with casual chairs and tables all around it. You can see them prepping and cooking which is also a plus for sanitation purposes. The staff is always nice and welcoming. They will explain any item on the menu in detail if you are unsure about it. You place your order and get a number and wait for your food. It is served on disposable plates. I would recommend this place to everyone. It's such a unique experience. read more

This place has become one of my favorites in the area. I come here often to try different things from their large selection of chaats, dosas, Frankie's, and more! Their prices are pretty decent compared to other restaurants in the area and the quality of the food is amazing. They also cook their food in the middle with an open kitchen so you are able to see your food being made, which is also nice. It is a fun place to eat, their music playlist is also great. The menu is listed on their counter that you order at and they give you a number so you can seat yourself. The menu has so many different things, it makes you want to try one of everything! I always get the pani puri - you can get it at your table or on the counter and cold coffee with ice cream is a must if you like your coffee sweet. I have also tried the Rawa Masala Dosa, Manchurian Frankie, Pav Bhaji, Egg Pulao and pretty much all of the chaats. Everything has been delicious and I do recommend trying this place! read more

It's towards the back and can be tough to spot if you were looking for a building off the street. Inside you'll find an open kitchen in the middle, several casual tables and chairs, Indian music, and some incredible Indian spices and aroma that fill the air. The owner said he was going for a street atmosphere concept - not sure what he meant and it certainly didn't have that vibe, but it was open and clean/sparse. 1/2 Star. Service - Upon telling the staff it was our first time, their eyes lit up and they were very excited to explain the concept and menu. They were very helpful in recommending how we should order, and they also allowed us to taste test some of the food items. You place your order at the counter, get a number, find a seat and wait for your food. They were super friendly and as each item started coming out, asking what we thought the food and really wanting to know opinions. 1 Star. Food - Let me start off by saying that I am not Indian, nor am I an expert in Indian cuisine. I do, however, love food and love to try new things. So I am writing this review from the perspective of somebody who enjoys trying new foods but is by no means an expert on the region's cuisine region. We ended up ordering a number of items which I will detail below: Pani Puri - This dish consisted of a "shell" that we filled with chickpeas and two types of sauces. They were both sweet and it was fun to get a nice bite. This was good. Pav Bhaji - This dish reminded me of a bean dip. It was served with some warm, slightly toasted Indian bread. It had Indian cheese sprinkled on top and was served with freshly cut red onion and tomato. I took the bread and dipped it into the dip to eat it. It was pretty amazing - one of my favorites. Dosa - This was a long crepe-like sandwich that we cut up into strips and get into the spicy Indian dips. I enjoyed this but wasn't sure I ate it right. Omelet Sandwich - This was simply an egg sandwich. But it was a fried egg mixed with spices and onions, and honestly it reminded me of a dish that my mom used to make when I was little. In fact, I liked it so much that I didn't even get a chance to take a photo. This was my second favorite dish. Triple Sandwich - A triple layer Indian sandwich filled with cheese, spices, & sauce. It was really a beautiful sandwich, but the stories here again is the bread. I can't say how much I enjoyed the bread here. It was that good. I am sure I am missing some details and I probably did not even describe some of the dishes correctly. The bottom line, however, is that this was an amazing adventure in tasting some of Bombay's region of cuisine. It is definitely authentic. 1 1/2 Star. Will I Return? - Yes. Even the fruit juices were great. Again, I am by no means an expert on this type of cuisine, but I know what I like when I eat it, and I enjoyed everything that I ate at Bombay Chowpatty. In fact, I could see myself coming back just for the pineapple juice. 1 Star. My Yelp Rating Scale (Sum of all parts): 1 Star - Atmosphere - Is it a cool dive? Perhaps an upscale place? But that's also what can make a five star joint drop to four. The menu needs a lot of work. There is no description and is not American friendly. I couldn't make out what their menu is saying and the terrible hand writing, come on!!! I went with samosa chaat, vegetable Frankie, and a falooda. That falooda was the worse one ever. They didn't put any effort in it just like their menu. The only good thing was the Frankie. I didn't know that samosa chaat was a samosa deconstructed in soup form. It was spicy but I didn't like it. The Frankie was like a burrito and delicious! But I could have eaten two orders of those. What I don't like is service. The lady took my orders made me feel like I was a bother. The dude who called my orders, didn't put it on a tray. The variety is unbelievable. It's difficult to even read everything on the menu when you first come in but that's when you know it will be a good place. Getting food was lightning fast and there was nothing that was bad that I tried. Pav Bhaji was hot, buttery crisp yet soft pav. Masala Dosa was crispy and aloo, nice soft but not oily. Palao light and soft but usual. Good for a large group but very loud and crowded. Afterall, it is a street, fast food joint so no curry dishes here. It's an Indian Street Food restaurant. They are busy and fast pace. If one doesn't know Indian food, this is not a place to ask questions and figure it out. Pleasant, swift service. Well, I wouldn't assume that I know how they work their food prep area... No one was NOT working on an order as all look very diligent on getting stuff out. We spilled food all on the ground (our fault) and they replaced it almost immediately at no charge. Thought I also applaud the owner/gentlemen that helped us find a seat. I went Bombay after I had testing at envision right next to them I originally wanted tacos but they were closed and there was a sign in the window saying we are open at Bombay next door. So I said why not and went next door I pulled the door it was locked so I turned to walk away and a older Indian man walked up to me and said and said what what what do you want like he was upset. I said huh I would like to buy some food so he unlocked the door and we both went inside I ordered my food and sat down this man watched me the entire time eat and was not happy that a black woman was in his restaurant. There were plenty of Indian people that came in right behind me but they all stood there watching me like they were very unhappy and wanted me to leave. The Pav Bhaji was disappointing-not even close to what we get in Bombay. It was too runny for my liking and needed a lot more of spices and pav bhaji masala. Will I ever find Pav Bhaji in DFW that makes me happy?!! :( The dabeli was absolutely dismal. It was overly sweet like a lot of sugar was added to it. I'd rather stick to buying frozen meals of Pav Bhaji and Dabeli. The saving grace were the grilled sandwiches I tried. Both the veg cheese club and paneer were amazing and reminded me of home. This place was a blast! We were looking for a place to have lunch after a long time biking along the White Rock lake. Went to a nearby restaurant which was out of food and saw this place behind that restaurant. Seeing the name, we hoped we would get some decent chaat at least but what we got was mindblowing! Never seen a place serving pani puri (in US) in the way these guys did! It was just like what we used to get back home in India - the shopkeeper filling in puris with chhola and pouring sweet or spicy paani as per our request - and you get to eat them as they make the paani puri one by one. Oh, this experience alone is worth 5 stars! We ended up eating 3 plates - just could not stop! Lol. Besides pani puri, we had dahi puri, pav bhaji, vada pav, gobhi manchurian roll, sweet n salty mix masala soda and buttermilk. The dahi puri was delicious too - at first i thought the puris are too small, but they offered more number of puris than is served as standard here in US. Delicious AF! The vada pav was yummy with the right spicy flavor - it was even served with some masala and green chilli. The pav bhaji was just too good - i found out later on that you can order extra pav with the plate if you want. I didn't like the manchurian roll a lot - it was just okay. It might be the fact that i was enjoying the other dishes too much. Among drinks, chaas was not that great but the masala soda was amazing. For the flight home, we got the khichdi, cheese paratha to go. The khichdi was pretty good but cheese paratha was just okay. I also tried the kala khatta gola which was supposed to be black colored with sour and mildly sweet flavors. The flavor of this item turned to be extremely sweet and gooey in texture. And it was purple - violet colored. But i give them points for using the same machine to break and crush ice like they use back home in India. It was like being at home. Felt so good. The menu at Bombay Chowpatty is quite extensive and has excellent street food selections from India. However the food was rather intense, which isn't an adjective I use often in restaurant reviews. The pav bhaji was quite salty for me, even though I'm used to fairly high salt levels. The pani puri was quite spicy, to the point of being un-enjoyable. Sev puri was good, and so was vada pav.
