Ordered a bunch of times from Bolan and it was great! Unfortunately we had the craving for some Tai last Friday. We ordered the same dishes we always order (via Uber eats) and it was plain nasty. Fried Wontons were soggy and dark in colour, the shrimp in the Pad Thai were off..like 10 minutes away from being outright rotten..honestly scary. Most of the 4 dishes we ordered ended up in the trash. Not sure what happened this time around but we won't be ordering again until I forget the experience. Sad to say. read more

Decided to treat myself to a Thai feast while the hubs was at work and Bolan popped up on Uber Eats as being highly rated. Decided to order the mango salad, veggie spring rolls, veggie tom kha soup and kao soi curry. My order arrived a short time later and I was super excited to dig in. The soup and curry lids both were a little undone so a bit spilled in the plastic bag on the way to me, but not a huge deal. Otherwise the items were packed/presented nicely and with care. The veggie spring rolls were tasty - super crunchy and stuffed full of fresh vegetables. Loved the spicy sweet dipping sauce on the side. The mango salad was maybe the best I've ever had - sweet and crunchy, with a chopped peanut dressing which was so delicious. Loved the bits of fresh mint leaves throughout. The tom kha soup was surprisingly spicy - yummy but very hot. My only complaint about the soup was that there were a ton of crunchy (pepper?) seeds at the bottom of the container which weren't super pleasant to eat as I finished the bowl. I was so stuffed at this point, I didn't even try the kao soi curry but hubby had it the next day for lunch and it was delicious. Fairly good Thai place... I had the signature main dish 'Ka-prao Gai Kai-dow which is basically stir fried ground chicken and green beans with a fried egg on rice. Ground chicken was well seasoned (strong basil aroma) and green been was crispy. The gravy from the ground chicken seeped into parts of the rice, and made it quite flavorful. Fried egg was over easy so centre of yolk still slightly runny. I also sampled some of the apps 1) mango salad: good standard fare. I appreciate they didn't cheap out by subbing lettuce which i see often at other Thai places 2) spring roll: I would pass on this, shell was sought too dry 3) fried mushrooms: Batter was crispy but not that flavorful and had sightly charred taste. I was running errands on a nice Tuesday afternoon when I spotted Bolan and decided to give it a try. The restaurant was empty when I arrived and I was promptly seated. Washrooms were downstairs where the ceilings were hung low and it smelt kind of funky. Service was friendly and attentive. Cha Ma Nao (Thai Lime Iced Tea) 4/5 Very refreshing. The tea taste is a tad strong but tasty nonetheless. Chicken Satay skewers 4/5 Cooked nice and juicy. The peanut sauce is so good Bolan pad Thai 4/5 Came with thin Vermicelli which I've never seen before in pad Thai. I would have preferred thick vermicelli but the dish is so flavorful that it makes up for it. Bit on the saltier side but still yummy. There's green p street parking available however it's unavailable during certain times so double check in order to avoid getting a ticket. It's great, we come here often! But there is a bit of a wait for take out, like half hour. It's a small dark restaurant, with many Thai decorations around the restaurant. I love that with every dish, we are able to get vegetables with it instead of meat. I usually get the vegetable pad thai, but have also tried: - Red curry (with pumpkin) vegetables (find that they don't give much rice in proportion to curry) - Tom Yum noodle soup with vegetables - Thai fried rice - basil fried rice - pineapple curry The flavours in the thai fried rice is cool and different from Chinese fried rice (probably basil and other flavours), but I think my favourite is still the pad thai. It has a soft flavour, filled with vegetables and tofu, peanuts, crisp fresh bean sprouts, and a slice of lime. read more

We recently moved into the midtown area and have been on the hunt for a go-to Thai place. Looks like we've finally found it! Bolan Thai Cuisine is a small restaurant with a handful of tables. They keep the restaurant dark and romantic, and it is adorned with some eclectic Thai-style decorations. We came here for dinner on a Thursday night and were happy that we made reservations. Every table was filled. I would strongly recommend making reservations if you are coming at peak dinner time (and probably lunch). It took a bit of time for the server to come and take our orders but once she did, they were made quite quickly. We had the Bolan Pad Thai (off the signature menu), the Pad See Ew with chicken, and the classic Pad Thai with chicken. The Pad See Ew was definitely the winner! This meal was to die for. The stir-fried flat rice noodles were filled with so much flavour from the soy sauce, egg and garlic. The chicken was tender and flavourful. The Chinese broccoli really added some crunch to top it off. This dish was by far my favourite. I probably wouldn't get the Bolan Pad Thai again as I wasn't a fan of their use of glass noodles and the dish wasn't packed with as much flavour. I did think it was cool how the whole meal was wrapped in an egg crepe that you had to break and stir together, but otherwise, this was my least favourite dish. The classic Pad Thai was much better than the Bolan Pad Thai. The rice noodles held the flavour of the tamarind sauce, garlic and onions much better. This dish had flavour and tasted exactly as you expect a Pad Thai to taste. The dishes are moderately sized and not nearly as colossal as some other Thai restaurants we've been to. To be honest, I prefer that. I felt that a lot of care was placed into each dish (not just in how it was made, but also in how it was plated). The prices were very reasonable! The Bolan Pad Thai was the most expensive at $15.95 and the other noodle dishes were $12.95. This felt quite reasonable for the quality of the food and the location of the restaurant. Very Beautiful decor. We ordered Tum Yum soup, it was a bit spicy, but tasty. We also got the green curry and the special pad ti with chicken. We could have a bit more rice with the green curry. Both dishes were delicious. I preferred the green curry, it was very tasty. The pas Thai has more noodle and less chicken. The only thing is they're suppose to close at 10. it was a bit before 10 and they started swiping the floor while we were eating, we felt a bit rushed. read more

I made a spontaneous decision to try Bolan Thai last night and was not disappointed. Somehow I had never noticed it before, despite living in the area for almost two years. Now I feel like it'll be somewhere I visit regularly. The menu had a really eye-catching and appealing design, as did the decor of the restaurant. The server was unobtrusive yet attentive to filling our water glasses and bringing the food quickly. This is the perfect spot for an intimate dinner. There were a lot of great sounding dishes, as well as signature meals. I ordered the peanut curry with chicken. The portion sizes are large, but not overwhelmingly so. I left fully satisfied without feeling like my stomach was going to explode. The sticky rice came in the shape of a star which was a nice touch! Their lunch menu looks like a great deal, but I was tempted by the khao soi, one of their "specialties". We started with the mushroom fritters, and between four people we demolished them. The oyster mushrooms are perfectly tender, and the batter is light and crispy. The sauce that comes with pushes them even better. We ordered a second plate just a few bites into the first. The mains came a bit slowly, but that was okay because we were busy with the fritters. The portion for the khao soi is ENORMOUS. I might as well have rolled out the door. The crispy noodle garnish is great, and I appreciate that they mixed bean sprouts and noodles in the dish to make it a bit less heavy. The curry was very mild. The place is decorated well, with plenty of thai condiments for decoration, the food is flavourful- I tried the pad Ka prow (ground chicken with rice and a fried egg), made spicy per our request. Perfectly balanced. Usually restaurants throw in a bunch of chilli powered or oil to make it spicy but this was well balanced! We also tried the thai iced tea which was great and came separately in this cute bulb like cup where you pour it yourself over ice. My friends loved their khao Soi. Got a job nearby so this was recommended to me by one or my coworkers and since I love Thai food I decided to give it a try. I got the garlic shrimp with brown rice lunch special. It was alright, not the best Thai food I've had but certainly not the worst. It came with four pieces of shrimp and the portion size was so tiny. The shrimp wasn't very flavourful or didn't really taste of any garlic. It also came with a side of Tum Yum soup (which, is one of my favourite soups ever) and it didn't disappoint. It was very flavourful and had just the right amount of spice. The takeout service was also pretty fast, I'd say I was waiting probably about 10 minutes. Overall, I probably wouldn't get the garlic shrimp again but I would definitely try something else. read more

Came with a group of 5 and tried the Pad Thai, Khao Soi, Som Tum, Penang Curry, spring rolls, and Mango Mousse - and ALL of us could not stop talking about how DELICIOUS the food was. My mouth is watering as I reminisce. Their presentation is also a 11/10 - the staff truly put effort into handcrafting a dining experience. I really like this place. We had made a reservation and they had a little chalkboard on the table with my friend's name on it. The chairs were super comfy and although we were close to the door, it was not cold. The decor was cozy and I loved all the bottles of fish sauce on the wall. Menu is great. We ordered a bottle of Riesling, spring rolls (which arrived at the table in cute little baskets), Tom yum noodle soup, signature pad Thai made with glass noodle, and the Panang beef. My only real complaint was that the food all seemed to come at once. This is difficult when sitting at a small table and made even more awkward because the soup takes a good deal of time to spoon out and slurp the noodles. We had to ask them to take the Pad Thai back to the kitchen. Soup wasn't the best and only lukewarm. Next time I will try the soups on the menu that don't have noodles. Spring rolls were crisp with lots of glass noodles inside and nary a trace of grease. Panang Curry was inspired perfection! The crispy pieces of deep fried beef were tender and light. The contrasting texture against the rice and sauce was truly divine. Pad Thai was very tasty, but we had to take most of it home as we were getting full. No gloopy ketchup sauce. Proper tamarind and lime! Not sure if I like the egg crepe. The service was thoughtful and charming. It's wonderful to go out for a meal and be treated so well. My only suggestion would be for them to slow down the ordering and perhaps send the items to the kitchen in courses and then run pick ups when there is a smaller table and soup and apps involved. The shrimp came covered in a type of rice krispy-esk peanut flavoured topping. The peanut flavour really overwhelmed the shrimp and didn't go well with the shrimp. I came here with my fiancé today for an early dinner. We had an appetizer each ( spring rolls and Tom yum soup) which was actually quite good. However, my fiancé ordered the green curry and as he was eating it he found half A PRAYING MANTIS in his curry. You can't make this up. We were both so grossed out that we could not eat anymore. The waitress tried just brushing it off and didn't seem embarrassed or apologetic about it. She simply took it back to the kitchen, came back and said that it was indeed a bug and asked if we wanted something else. At this point I'm so grossed out I tell her to I don't want my pad Thai anymore and she takes that as she thinks I want her to wrap it up. Many people came in for take out, and the servers were polite. Prices are reasonable, and the restaurant is fairly clean! This place was surprisingly good; I think it will now become my new go-to. In an area of town starved for good Thai food, Bolan is the best in midtown. We got a few dishes delivered recently. The Bolan pad thai with chicken and shrimp was solid, with good depth of flavour. It came with glass noodles instead of the thicker noodles I see more often. The other two dishes were a step above. Green curry with beef had a good amount of heat and was very tasty. My favourite was the ka-prao gai kai-dow with ground chicken, and a lot of basil. Had the red curry. The quality of any Thai restaurant can be determined by the quality of their curries. This was bad. It was sweet, not spicy, the coconut milk was watered down and there were so many vegetables in it the flavour of the curry was significantly muted. Tip: use aroy-d coconut milk, it's thick and flavourful and affordable, anything else is just too watered down. The curry base was loaded in Palm sugar, it was too sweet. Red curry needs to be spicy. This place is awesome! I came here for dinner with a group of friends on Friday night. This restaurant is very small, so I highly suggest making reservations. I would say they can at max accommodate 8 people, but it might be tight. We were a party of 7 people. This location is relatively close to the subway and for people that drive, there is street parking and a Green P parking lot across the street too. The servers here are friendly and nice. I like that they constantly came to refill our water glasses without having to ask. But they weren't over attentive either. Because it is a very small restaurant, it is not very noisy although they are very busy. We decided to order dishes and a bottle of red to share. The bottle was not expensive at all... I thought it was very afforable. The food here is delicious!! I think I have found a new Thai Restaurant to frequent. The presentation of the food was pretty, the flavors were good. I went to Bolan for dinner on a weeknight -- there was one other table occupied so we were seated right away. The decor is sleek and inviting. We had the Ka-prao Gai Kai-dow ($15.95) and it was delicious; minced chicken sauteed with veggies and spicy chili oil and topped with a fried egg (you know, the kind with the crispy edges? *drool*) served on a bed of rice. The Bolan Pad thai ($15.95) was also really tasty, wrapped in a egg crepe. The service was fast and friendly; coupled with the food it was a solidly good experience. One star off only for the price -- I found it a bit on the pricey side, to be expected for Midtown Toronto. However, I think chipping in the couple extra bucks is worth it compared to Thai chains in the area that serve salty mushy pad thai. Bolan may not be as trendy as other Thai spots in the city, but if you're on Mount Pleasant you'll realize it's anything but trendy, so kinda makes sense -- plus, it makes it easier for you to park and get a table. One night, my husband and I liked to have a "food adventure" to try something that we don't usually have. I checked the yelp and google, and found this restaurant which is near my place and has a good reputation. After trying, both of us agree with that we will obviously come back again. If I can give this restaurant more than five stars, I will give it without any doubts. All dishes that we had are tremendously tasty, moreover the dining environment is comfort. A nice hidden gem of a Thai restaurant. The prices were fair and I really liked the sauce. We had the pad thai (It was a tad too spicey for my partner's taste) and I had the crispy beef (sauce was too good, but the beef itself didn't have too much taste). Portion sizes are great. Bolan Thai is my favourite place to go whenever I am craving authentic Thai food. I discovered it by accident when I moved into the area and I still think it's an relatively undiscovered little gem of a restaurant in this area. I have tried every single one of their signature dishes: Bolan Pad Thai, Panang Curry Beef with Boiling Egg, Khao Soi Gai are my favourites. Their Spicy Eggplant dish is a must try vegetarian dish too. The decor of the place is lovely too, decorated with nostalgic pieces from Thailand that seems to have come from the owner's personal collection. The presentation of their Pad Thai was unique as well, served with the egg wrapping the noodles like an omelette, which made eating it a lot of fun for me. One of the nicer Thai restos in the city when it comes to decor and ambience. But the food doesn't hold up to what i now believe is a higher standard in toronto for Thai fare. With so many new trendy legit Thai places to choose from, at considerably lower price points it's hard to give bolan more than 3 stars. Curry was good (had the green curry with fish but i think it was a basa filet, previously frozen. (Would probably cost about $3 at your local T&T). Mango chicken was decent. Pad Thai was a bit small and the noodles were overly mushy (too cooked?). They give you a cool star shaped pile of rice but it's about half of what you need to sop up all the yummy curry sauce. To be fair I asked for more and they didn't charge me. And I asked for chilli oil and they didn't have any! Not a bad place but I've had better. Still if you happen to want Thai for a special occasion dinner this might be the place to go. read more

After reading reviews on here I wanted to try the snow shrimp but unfortunately they were out. Our group instead ordered the mushroom fritters and deep fried tofu. We had requested peanut sauce to go with out tofu instead of what they usually served and they were accommodating. The mushroom fritters were delicious and were eaten up quickly. I'm surprised no other restaurant I've been to has served battered enoki mushrooms! Our group got an assortment of mains and all were beautifully plated and served. Usually when this happens that means there isn't a whole lot but I must say that this place gives you proper and full servings! All in all it was a great experience and I was definitely pleased to have been here. The others in my party agree and I would heartily recommend others to come here for excellent Thai food in the area!
