Usually enjoy coming to this place but today's experience was not as pleasant as every other time I've come to this location. Dinner rush had not started and we were seated at the communal table in the middle. We asked if they could keep the middle seats unoccupied to maintain social distancing, but were ultimately told that Pasadena doesn't follow LA county measures etc etc and it would be up to the manager to determine that. They ended up seating people there anyway and keeping the end of the table empty??? Which makes no sense but okay. Service was slower than usual, took 3 different servers to bring us extra utensils and get our water refilled. I was served spoiled rice and the server tried to argue with me saying that the rice was "ok" and that it was made "2 hrs ago" and I should be "fine". If you make rice everyday, you know that spoiled rice has a distinct smell and told him I know it's spoiled bc it doesn't taste right. Took forever to get our check as well and had to ask 3 times to have it brought over. Quality has not been the same since they first opened, sad. read more

Boiling point is my savior during those days I work overtime and am looking for a single-serving, scrumptious meal with all the food groups. The Pasadena location, although pricier than BP in other locations, regards itself as a "concept store" that serves better quality ingredients, and in my opinion, better service as well. The quality and quantity is also quite consistent at this location. They also have the usual 3 sauces - garlic sauce, soy bean paste, and chili oil. The soy bean paste is what makes me come back to BP time and time again, because the dipping sauce is THAT GOOD. The concept is simple - you choose one of their pots (unfortunately no substitutions, you can always add on more for some $), choose the spicy level (I always go for the medium), and if you want white or brown rice with the meal. Then sit back and wait for your food. If you prefer vermicelli over ramen or udon, you cannot go wrong with angus beef pot or tomato pot (there is a vegetarian or beef option). The former soup base is more savory, while the latter is sweeter due to the tomato base. If you're looking for something heartier, go for the lamb pot - not only do they have the usual protein, there is also an egg added and pickles, which makes the broth heartier. Some of my friends are die-hard fans of Taiwanese spicy, but I personally thought it was an overkill, as much as I like spicy food, since they rely on chili oil for the heat rather than flavor. But again, maybe that's your cup of tea and just not mine. If you did end up getting Taiwanese spicy and your colon is regretting the decision, you can also go for some of their grass jelly dessert to cool things down. It's quite delicious. read more

First time here. I got the Taiwanese Hot Pot and it's VERY SPICY. I love how you get your own little small hot pot rather than the traditional big hot pot. You get to choose between white and brown rice--I got the brown rice and it's really good. The tables are a bit small, staffs are friendly, and you can order Jin Tea (next door boba shop the best tea as boba I've ever had). Will definitely be coming back to try the other flavors read more

Very disappointed- as expected they don't have regular number 1 with fermented tofu. But I ordered the new numbing spicy trio beef hotpot, the veggies are raw , super crunchy uncooked, a bigger pot that is mostly filled by cabbage.. not worth the price coz the beef n main ingredients portions are small. But the seaweed sides they give here are very good. I will probably go to other stores for number 1 with fermented stinky tofu in the future read more

I love Boiling Point and have wanted to check out this concept store for the longest time. I finally found an opportunity to go and see what its all about. I guess if the concept was to raise the prices on the exact same menu as other Boiling Points, and to give us less for more, this place really got the concept down. I came in here for lunch and there was no wait. I now understand why the popularity of this place is not as crazy as the other boiling points around town. First, the lunch prices are $14.99 (which is a few dollars more than the other boiling points lunch prices). And for $14.99, you are getting the EXACT same menu. There is nothing new on the menu, besides maybe the adding of cheese to your pot for an additional cost. Second, you DO NOT get a choice of rice or vermicelli noodles. You only get rice (either white or brown). If you want noodles, you can pay $1.50 extra for it. Though the menu charges $1.50 for extra rice. I'm not sure why I can't substitute noodles for rice when they cost exactly the same on the menu. To protest this point, I opted for no rice. They can keep the rice! Third, you DO NOT get a free green or black tea with lunch like the other boiling points. Fourth, you DO NOT get any free palette cleanser dessert drink when you pay the bill. Fifth, the flavors of the soups are not the same. I always order the Pomelo flavor. But here, I can't really taste the pomelo flavor until towards the end when the soup has boiled down to its last few drops of concentrate. I went into this place with high hopes and came out rather disappointed, to be quite frank. I had been wanting to try this place for a while - just not alone lol It's far from where I live in Woodland Hills, so, ideally, I'd go with somebody and on Sunday 04/08/18, that's what I did. Now, I wasn't sure what to expect but I didn't realize how small the portions were. I got the Angus beef pot and they're wasn't much beef st all. It was almost all veggies; wasn't worth the money I spent. Also, when we were ordering, the waitress asked how spicy I wanted my pot. I said normal, to which she replied "are you sure?" twice, then explaining how it was spicier than average and after affirming the second time, she went "okaaaaaaay". You could probably sense the condescending tone she said it in. Fast forward to actually eating the food and it's not really spicy. The food tasted good, although much of it was very soggy from all the water, but portions should be better. All in all, it's worth an experience, I suppose - but not worth the money. This BP location seems just as busy as any of the other locations I've been too. I am a big fan of all BP locations. My go to order is the Korean bean paste. Their soup base is full of flavor and the toppings are fresh including the protein. My other favorite is their table toppings, I usually use their garlic soy. This location also costs slightly higher than the others I've been to, probably because it's in downtown Pasadena. If you come during a weekday for dinner, the lines aren't as crazy. read more

I would give a 0 star if I can. I went with three of my friends for dinner sunday November 15th, 2015. I was almost done eating when I found a bug inside the tofu. I went to the restroom and puked everything out. When we called the server over there response was "oh I think its from the vegetables. We use organic vegetables."What kind of a response is that?? And the bug wasn't even on or between the vegetables. And they tried to take the food away before we could say negatives thing more. So we stopped them and told them to bring the manager. They said the manager wasn't in so a person bellow the manager came over. When we asked if they don't wash and check the vegetables he said that they don't wash their ingredients here. They have another kitchen that handles and washes their vegetables and sends it over. He said that this happened before and they notified them but they were sorry that this happened again. Seriously? They should have been more careful after the incident happened the first time. He said he was sorry and that we don't have to pay for two persons meal and the other drinks that we ordered. I was so mad but I didn't want to cause a scene and I just wanted to get out of that place so I said okay. Few minutes later he came back and said we don't have to pay for anything and "it's on the house". Really? You use that phrase when it is a good situation. Please stay away from that place until they do something about it. I loved hotpot and now they ruined my whole good experience with hot pot. I think I won't be eating hotpot for few years. read more

Would recommend avoiding the third party delivery apps and placing an order directly to get more customization options and avoid the ingredients going soggy and lukewarm in the broth. Been here three times and this is a consistent issue.. Food - 3stars. Good but it's nothing ground breaking as far as hot pot goes. Drinks - 4stars. The tea that they get from next door is awesome. really great milk tea here with black sugar pearls. Staff - 1 star. forgetful, late and not very attentive. We ordered and after 30mins got a drink with a bowl of rice without the hotpot.. waited another 20 mins for the hotpot and by then the rice was cold... Atmosphere - 3 stars. kind of loud and the place blasting hip hop music does not help. Honestly.. if I really wanted hotpot or shabushabu I would avoid this place as there are way better places. This boiling point concept store is nice -- much like the other reviews posted about this particular location, there's very little to disagree with. The store is clean, spacious, and the amenities are great. The fact that the sauce containers on each table have better spoons (spoons that actually look like miniature ladles) means less hassle getting a helping of sauce. Overall I think it would drastically help if they integrated the features of this store (which are just a rehash of what they could improve upon on the original idea) into their other locations. The cost differential seems relatively small in this regard. The challenge I think this store is going to have is that it's off the beaten path in downtown Pasadena, (it's not on colorado, but green street, which gets drastically less foot traffic) and the price point. At $15 dollars for any hotpot option (plus another $3-4 dollars for their upgrade option), you're looking at roughly $20 dollars for a hotpot (plus tip/tax). As a result, I saw at least 3 couples come in here to split a single hotpot which is a much more rare situation at their other locations. It suggests that their clientele are not willing to pay as much as they are commanding at this particular spot. Speaking of price point, it is also hard to understand a 50% premium for the same food options (essentially) at their other store locations. Their drinks are also at a premium, asking $6-$8 dollars each. For this reason alone, although they may be earning more profit per item, the fact that wait lines are not ~1 hour like their other stores, will likely hurt them long term. Time will tell, but its never a good sign when the location is ~40% of capacity during the busy weekend dinner rush. This is a very basic economic theory for profit maximization (marginal cost vs marginal revenue). Service wise, there could be improvements on as well. Due to the layout of the restaurant, we had a very difficult time getting the attention of the wait staff when we ran out of water, and again when we wanted the check. (there was a utensil kiosk/pillar in the way obstructing the view). The staff themselves were very helpful and polite. Little sheep (another hotpot competitor) is slightly closer to the main strip, and presents a competition factor. Overall, I enjoyed my experience, but based on the cost alone, as well as the cost for parking, I will likely not be back at this location. read more

Yum! I love Boiling Point, so I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had opened up a location in Pasadena. My favorite is still the Taiwanese Spicy (although I do regret it the next day). There are a few additional options that you have at this location since it is their concept store. That said, some of the items that you are accustomed to seeing (like their Hokkaido Milk Tea) are not available here. The main difference is that they use organic ingredients here. read more

We came with a group of 5 during Saturday night around 9pm and it was around 40 mins wait. We decided to go else else where and come back the next day. The dinner pot is around $17 each. They looks very appetizing from above but if you dig around a little you will quick realize the pot is about 50% of cabbage, 40% of noodles, and 10% of other contents that are actually good. In my opinion they should not have cost more than $12 per pot. For $17 I would expect more meat and less cheap cabbage used. In addition, during our dining time, not a single employees came check on our table. We had to wave them down like we are annoying them. We spent around $100 for the dinner and we left $0 tip because that's what their service deserves. If you are hungry for some hot pot, look somewhere else. read more

A different take on hot pot. The main difference including that your items come out already dunked in your choice of brothy goodness. You get to choose what flavor you want and can dictate the level of spiciness (excluding the Taiwanese one which only comes in flaming!). Imagine a cross between ramen and hot pot and this is it!Additionally the dipping sauce that you can customize lip smacking greatness! Best place to go on a cold California 50 degree winter night! Went on Thursday night at 5:30 right before the line got very long. So I ordered the Angus Beef about $18 n upgraded with more beef $5 so total $23. The portion was smaller than other places but the broth was very unique n delicious. I ordered the plain bc I was sharing with my 7 y.o. It is slightly diff from other hot pots bc it comes w everything in it n cooked so u r just warning up the soup. I liked the diff sauces that were on the table so u can try all of them. The only reason that I gave 3 stars bc the beef was so tough n rubbery! Don't know how u can call it Angus Beef when it was very obvious that it was a cheaper cut beef. If they changed the beef to better quality it would have been so much better. Would I go back maybe but would try other meats n definitely NOT the beef. read more

The new Boiling Point opened in Pasadena and although I'm still a fan of Boiling Point, I am definitely not a fan of this location. I would rather drive the extra distance to Arcadia or San Gabriel to the other locations instead. First of, the menu is slightly different here. There is only 1 size for the pots and they just charge you more for the same thing during dinner. The pot costs about $14 for lunch but the portion is smaller than the other locations. I got a Taiwanese pot and although the flavor was good, the pot was filled with mostly instant noodle and cabbage. They also have a different drink menu. Their awesome mango green tea and hokkaido milk tea are not on the menu here. In fact, the tea menu is very limited and quite expensive. They have some kind of Oolong that costs about $7 each. I didn't try it because I just don't want to fork out that kind of money for tea. They also don't have the free drink for lunch special like the other places do. They don't have shaved ice either. One positive here is that they have brown rice. It's more like a mixed grain rice but I did enjoy it. The service is also better here than the other ones. Still, like I mentioned before, I wouldn't come back to this location because of the higher price, smaller portions, and lack of tea selections. read more

I really like Boiling Point but this specific location is way different than San Gabriel and Monterey Park. Lunch costs $14.99 and didn't come with the complimentary green or black tea. They also didn't have the stinky tofu and palette cleanser that comes in the end of your meal. Food still tasted really good, but unfortunately I won't be coming back to this location when I can get the meal for a cheaper price at other locations. read more

I've been to almost all the boiling point locations in Southern California and you know what? I think I finally found my favorite location. Quality vs quantity, yes it's about $3.00 more than the regular boiling point location but there is a reason why it's more. Organic vegetables, better meats for example tender lamb or angus beef, you get the choice of white or brown rice ( yay to brown rice) ,soup even taste better, you can choose more flavors without getting the big pot (unlike the regular boiling point hahaha) and better service. I got the Taiwanese spicy and it came with only one spice level which was flaming spicy please note that you cannot change the spice level on this. My butt was regretting this afterwards but it was so good. The flavor and spice was on point though. Also the hotpot comes with your choice of white or brown rice. If you like you can upgrade your meat for $3.95 or you can add additional items to your hotpot. We also got the tender lamb and that was really good. I can actually taste the lamb because it was cut in thick pieces YUM. Come to this boiling point guys! Too bad there is no stinky tofu pot, hahaha. read more

DO NOT EAT HERE !!!! My party and I came here on a Sunday due to a friends recommendation. The warning sign should've been the place, the food looked average. Our table was broken and wobbly. And the waiters couldn't care less. Now the best part? FOOD POISONING!! MY ENTIRE PARTY GOT FOOD POISONING FOR DAYS. I had to go to the hospital because of this place. So much hipster in one small place. For those of you like me, who like some wine with dinner, they have no alcohol. The food is good though. The hot pots are large- much more than I could actually eat. You can order add ons as well, such as ramen, or different types of meat. My friend ordered tripe and shrimp to be added to hers. I got a medium spicy one and it was HOT. So be careful if you order the spicy dishes! I usually love hot dishes, but this was just overwhelming. The hot pot bowls come with a little lit fire under the bowl, which literally kept it boiling the whole time. We had them turn ours off though because the boiling liquid kept splashing us and it was just too hot to eat. They also refill the broth for you! Overall, a good bang for your buck. read more

After reading so many good reviews, I decided to try it myself. Great customer service. I got there at the perfect time, 4:30pm, because I didn't have to wait. I read someone said about they're giving away "free" hot tea?? Nah that's not true. Okay, back to the food....It's basically shabu-shabu but with a twist? I don't know if it makes sense to you but that's what it reminds me of.....the only thing is that this one has all the ingredients already mixed and it's pre-cooked so you better start eating as soon as they serve it to you otherwise veggies get soggy and meat overcooked. I tried the mild & medium spicy and mild TASTED MUCH BETTER. The medium was overpowering, didn't like it. The restaurant was very cleaned. The waiters super friendly. It was my first time going to this place and I was not disappointed. I was still kind of full from the heavy lunch I ate, but I still tried my boyfriend's hot pot and ordered some appetizers for myself on the side. What amazed me the most was that the soup was refillable.. My boyfriend ordered the angus steak, with mild spice and it was delicious! The servers were on top of everything as well, super attentive and always came back to check on us. This place seems to get crowded, given the location and the space is small. This boiling point location is different compared to the other locations as it's located in Pasadena. When you walk in, there is a tablet for checking in. The place itself is very modern. There's a lot of wood and bright lights. The menu is in English and has a whole section of colorful drinks from Jin (tea place next door). I tried the tonkotsu miso (their new item). I didn't really like it. Basically a hotpot version of tonkotsu. It had wood ear mushrooms, cabbage, pork, shrimp, pork belly, iron noodles and tofu. Definitely like trying something different. What's cool is that the menu has asterisks in case you have any allergens. Who knew the lamb had peanuts! Anyways, it was a busy Saturday night but wished the servers came around and filled the bowls with soup as the soup kept boiling down and even burned... :( had to flag them twice! Come here for a more extensive boiling point menu. And remember to park in a lot or on the street because it's Pasadena. Apparently the corner of green and fair oaks in old town is the designated chinese intersection. We randomly saw boiling point here and decided to stop by for a weekday lunch thinking they would have the same lunch combo deal as other locations only to find out this one is "a concept store" and doesn't have the same lunch combos as the other locations. Unfortunately I still have no idea what the "concept" is. The only difference is that the menu is in English only and they are much prettier looking. Their drinks are from the super fancy organic tea shop "jin" next door, and the meal comes with choice of brown or white rice. I think the other boiling points have a choice of white rice or glass noodles? I also think the price is a little more expensive but don't quote me on that. Service was friendly, and we got our food quickly. They also gave out this awesome bean sprouts appetizer thing that was a little on the sweet side but I enjoyed it. My husband loves not having to cook the food and having it all ready in the pot. I ordered the lamb pot while he ordered the angus beef pot and both were very tasty. We love the variety of items that comes with every pot and I'm also impressed with the number of different pot choices they have. I'm especially impressed with the Organic Veggie Pot because my mom's vegetarian and usually has a hard time enjoying hot pot restaurants but this totally solves that problem. The lamb pot soup got a little salty towards the end for me but that's the case with most flavored broth hot pots. We ordered the tea drinks and got $1 off from the menu price. The teas were excellent. I don't know if I'd go into the store and pay full price for them because they are pretty darn expensive compared to average boba shops but you can tell the quality is definitely there (I'll have to write a separate review for them). If you haven't tried boiling point before and you aren't comfortable going to a super Chinese restaurant where everyone speaks Chinese and you might be the only non-Chinese person there then this is a great way for you to try it out. read more

I am a frequent visitor of boiling point, usually of the San Gabriel location but I have also been a few other locations. I almost always get the same item: beef flaming spicy with rice, making the comparison between traditional boiling point and the concept store a little easier. The location of BP in Pasadena is awesome, right in Old Town, across from other Asian favorites such as 85 degrees and Guppie House in case you want dessert after. Parking isn't bad, I use the 90 min free parking about a block away. Maybe since Pasadena has high rent, the inside space was not my favorite layout. The smallest Boiling Point I have been to. Some of the tables are large tables, so you may have dorm style communal sharing of tables FYI. Also, since the space is small, every time someone opened the door I felt a cold draft. I ordered the Angus beef flaming spicy with the brown rice. Tasted good, but I don't know if I felt enough of a difference to justify the price premium. I would probably only come for the times when I find Pasadena to be a good location, not because I want the higher quality ingredients or taste. The brown rice tasted good, I would recommend trying it. I would prob switch over at the other locations if they had it to be healthier. This location does include bean sprouts as an additional side dish. I also noticed additional dessert options. I went to Jin tea after for boba.
