So my wife decided this past Monday to try it out around lunchtime & it was hopping! So we just ordered our bowls to go even though my wife really wanted to eat there but home is only 10 minutes away if that. My wife's bowl was like a salad & she had half grilled steak & half chicken. She won't do steak again bc several pieces were too gristly. Mine was ok. My base was brown rice plus many add ons as I'm not as picky as my wife. We both had kimchee with many different addons & at least the kimchee or broccoli wasn't too spicy. My wife's dressing was Japanese BBQ & mine was green goddess. We both enjoyed our individual bowls. Their service was fairly quick with no complaints. My bowl was very filling! I could have eaten it all in one seating but I would have been too stuffed! Gosh we would be returning! As soon as I saw this on Yelp I knew I wanted to try this. It looks like a healthy approach to fast food, A vegetable or rice base with protein. My girlfriend and I got the Ranch Hand, a vegetable bowl with steak and sweet potatoes. The plus, a very healthy meal for around 640 calories. The cons, a meal for two with drink hovers around the mid 40's the taste was just ok, not bad mind you but not a home run. My girlfriend liked it a bit better than I did. The service was very quick and while the a/c was clearly in full blast, the decor is lighthearted and the outdoor patio with huge umbrellas was wonderful to enjoy lunch at. They have several pre-selected options to choose from but I went for the build your own option. The chicken was perfectly spiced and calmed down with the addition of the veggies. The corn was a little mealy but everything else was cooked to perfection. especially the roasted zucchini. Finally got a chance to try this place (came on opening weekend & line was out the door). Walked right in and no waiting during lunch on a Friday at 12:15. Bypassed the kiosks and began my ordering process identical to Chipotles. The base consisted of brown or basmati rice (no seasoning) or lettuce (spring mix or romaine). The proteins were diced chicken thighs, grilled steak and seasoned, diced tofu; no pork offerings here. You then finished off your bowl with a variety of (unlimited) toppings, dips (choose 2) and dressings (choose 2). I feel the line may move more swiftly and less questions asked by the customer if the description signage (5x7 laminated) were placed higher on the glass versus at the bottom (perhaps font can be bigger as well). Lot of the toppings and dressings looked great, but weren't the obvious/identifiable items like at Chipotle's. I didn't know what the green, finely chopped item was (broccoli florets), nor did I identify with the roasted garbanzos, cut sweet yams, or any of the dips & sauces; fortunately the worker was extremely patient answering my multiple "what's that/is it spicy" questions. My take on my custom-made bowl... Basmati rice was bland, brown rice cooked perfect; chicken was good, and the multiple toppings I chose were great (faves were the roasted garbanzo beans and the Kim chee). Dressings were flavorful (Tzatziki and roasted red pepper hummus and the dressings were great (jalapeño avocado & green goddess). I should've asked for less of the dressings, as it somewhat drained the flavors of the toppings I had in the bowl. Overall a good lunch, will be back to try the steak next time. I was glad to try this new quick serve in Elk Grove. The process is pretty easy. For your bowl, you can pick brown rice, white rice or salad. I was able to mix white with brown rice. Protein choices are chicken, beef, or tofu. There were various toppings available and then you get to pick the dressing. You can also get two side dips. I was able to try all 4 and liked them all. I've been hearing so much about Bohl and finally got the chance to visit today. There were some great things and not so good things. I know everyone likes to gripe about their hours. They have modified hours at the moment but that's only because they're in soft opening. Take it as you will or wait until their hours expand later on. I came today on a Sunday about 20 minutes after they opened and there was already a long line. Do people line up before they open? Based on that line I saw, probably. They have 4 kiosks as well and all were taken up. I'm normally a non kiosk person but I decided to chance it versus standing in a long line. At the moment, they have their rice bowls and their salad bowls. Maybe later on they will add more to their menu or add seasonal offerings. I don't eat rice but I wanted the toppings on their casa bohl nita. Thankfully, they have a build your own salad option. For my salad, I chose romaine lettuce, corn, black beans, pickled onions, steak, avocado, diced jalapeno, tomatoes, spicy broccoli and cucumber. For my sauce, I chose: spicy chipotle and green goddess. Also selected the pita chips with tzatziki sauce and the watermelon mint tea. My entire order was $27 approximately. After placing the order, which was easy by the way, I sat down to wait. First time there so I didn't know what to expect. There was no receipt that printed out nor did I receive a text for my order. Later, I downloaded the app and after entering my phone number, the app was able to locate my order. I had also signed up for rewards during my checkout process. Located my receipt through there. This might be an issue for anyone who doesn't like to download apps. If you're wondering how would I pickup my order or know which order is mine, the staff calls out your name. They then place your order in the pickup area with the receipt. My cup was also included. My bohl order was huge! It can be split between 2 people. My order came out as expected but it was missing cucumbers. Oh well. Also didn't expect the spicy broccoli to be chopped/diced. It's a great idea though! Convenient and easier to mix in your salad. Was my bohl spicy? It had a bit of a kick to it but not overwhelmingly spicy. Loved the pickled onions! I'll try it with a spring mix next time. Pretty sure if I had ordered as the regular casa bohl nita bowl, I wouldn't have been able to finish due to the amount of rice. But, it is great as dinner! Steak was marinated and cooked well. Good seasoning and meat was chewy. What was disappointing? The pita chips were a big disappointment for me. I read reviews and on social media, people were praising the pita chips. Unfortunately, they are way too greasy. In fact, it felt like they were grilled in a lot of oil because that's all I tasted. And yes, the tzatziki sauce was delicious however it was overpowered by the grease from the pita. There were only 3 slices of pita too. If the pita can be grilled in less oil or placed on paper towels for the excess grease to be soaked up, that would be better. I pressed my pita between a napkin and the amount of grease that came out was astonishing but not surprising. Please improve on this side appetizer. As mentioned earlier, the no receipt to verify my order and locating it through the app was kind of cumbersome. Would like for possibly an auto text next time of my receipt in case anything goes south. Also didn't like that my bowl was missing cucumbers but that's ok, next time I'll speak up if I notice a missing ingredient. I didn't notice until I was diving into my bowl and happily eating. Since I chose 2 sauces, it was a good amount and I didn't find my bowl drying as others have mentioned. Unsure: watermelon mint unsweetened tea. This was good and refreshing. Although, I think there is a bit of sweetener in it. Either, monk fruit or stevia. Subtle minty taste, barely any watermelon. Maybe the watermelon was for the color only. It's still good and I found myself sipping it often on the drive home. Overall, there are some small minor things to work on as Bohl continues to operate. Bohl is like Chipotle only with salads instead of burritos. They have lots of meat choices, lots of vegetable choices, and everything seems fresh. They have lots of fountain drinks, plus juices and teas. Their soda machine has Fresca! Such a nice surprise. The interior of the restaurant is clean & modern, but they keep the temps in there too cold. It's FREEZING. That's a common restaurant trick--they make it too cold so people won't stay too long. It keeps the tables open. But on my visits, there hasn't been anyone else. It's been empty, and it's been too hot to eat outside. They have lots of outdoor seating. They serve pita chips with the salads, and they are the best pita chips I've had in a long time. They are soft, a bit chewy, and flavorful. When I walked in to pick up my order it was easy with a pick up shelf similar to Chipotle. The place was also very clean and well laid out with dining indoors and outdoors. At first I thought the price was extreme but for the amount of food that they pack in the bowl, my husband and I felt the price was reasonable. I decided to try Bohl for the first time today for lunch, and in short, I was left disappointed :( Some context on me - I used to be a regular chipotle customer and ended my patronage about a year ago (due to price increases, servings size inconsistencies, issues with incomplete online orders, and an overall disdain for mega-corporations). I ordered ahead for pickup through their app, where I should have known better. I have always given grace around mistakes when it comes to online orders, as there is always a risk of an incomplete order, but I figured that this should not be something I need to worry about this time. I built my own bowl and upgraded to the full serving of steak and chicken protein so I could try both offerings. I do appreciate how transparent they are about the macro content of each menu item. It's a very effective way to elevate the customer experience for those who are interested in tracking macros, such as myself. Unfortunately, my order ended up missing the steak protein entirely. What a bummer, since it costs an additional $4 pre tax!!! The food itself was ok flavor wise, using fresh ingredients. The chicken wasn't all that flavorful, just ok at best. Food quality is good, but flavor is lacking (spices are a real thing guys). This style of bowl is pretty easily replicable at home and with much better flavor. Bohl in Elk Grove absolutely exceeded expectations. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm, modern, and welcoming. The vibe when you walk in is very nice and clean. The service was super friendly it definitely is still a little busy even during the weekday. The food is very good and has a lot of variety options if your vegan, to wanting protein etc, overall nice place to try. read more

we walked in on a weekend afternoon and it was decently busy, so we decided to order through the kiosk instead. it took about 20 minutes for us to get our food, the worker handing out the pick-up orders was bright and friendly, and the bowls were hefty and filled to the lid. unfortunately, i felt that the flavors fell short. the steak was good, juicy and flavorful, but overall the bowl was flat in taste. the "fire roasted corn" had no charred flavor, the natural flavor of the corn was also nonexistent, not even sweet. the "spicy broccoli" looked like there were no spices, it tasted like it, and the florets were disintegrating. i wish the pickled onions were sliced thinner and the tzatziki sauce threw me off, definitely wasn't what i was used to. also, the bowl was hard to mix so it was dry because i couldn't incorporate the tzatziki sauce well. i feel like it could've also used more rice. the sea salt pita chips were unfortunately the highlight of my meal, but those were also a bit oily. i was really excited to try this place in hopes it would be a cava dupe but maybe my expectations were a bit too high. however, i think i would be willing to give this spot another chance, maybe i'll try one of their premade bowls next time. read more
