Classic plate

This place is so good. The food is simple, healthy, and delicious My new favorite go to spot! Service was great and the ambiance is so comforting. So happy I tried this place! The rice is cooked with the chicken broth, the chicken is cooked perfectly, and the sauce is phenomenal. The broth on the side is just the perfect addition. Yummmmmm. Not badly priced either, you get a lot for what you pay. Then the mango sticky rice!!! ‍‍‍

Take 2 ... lean and crispy chicken over rice Strawberry lemonade in background

Grabbed a quick lunch here. The restaurant is small but has good seating to sit and enjoy your food. Service was good, quick and easy. Order at counter and wait for your food to be prepared. I ordered the take 2, consists of both the lean chicken and crispy chicken over a bed of rice. The chicken both tasted great with the sauce that it came with too. I also ordered a strawberry lemonade that was refreshing! Will be back next time I'm in the area for some chicken rice.

Amazing Chicken restaurant! So glad it opened up in Elk Grove, it has hands down THE BEST chicken soup I have ever had, and I've had some bombtastic chicken soup in LA and Thailand. Got the: 1. Classic Gai (has breast & Thigh meat): 9.5/10 - comes with scrumptious fragrant rice and mouthwatering soup. The soup is so well balanced and not too heavy- beat chicken soup I've ever had in my life! Chicken is not flavored but they give a dipping sauce that is only mildly spicy, so won't be a problem for those that can't tolerate spicy food 2. Chicken Rice & Soup: 9.5/10 - basically the same as the classic gai but with the rice and chicken mixed in the big bowl of soup. Got it for my grandma as it is perfect for the elderly who need soft foods Definitely coming back again and again, what a neighborhood gem!

I was in the EG area and I always wanted to try Gai 'N Rice. I walked in and the restaurant was empty, I ordered at the front and got a Thai tea, classic and the corn and cheese wonton. After I sat the food quickly came to my table. The spotlight dish was definitely the corn and cheese wonton, a combo I never had, in so use to the crab and cheese combo. This place specializes in chicken and rice plates and they did not miss. The chicken was super juicy and the soup was clean tasting. The ambiance of the restaurant is very cute, lots of chicken decor, plus they were playing banger songs. I would definitely come back for the corn and cheese wontons, a must try!!

Came in for the forst time withy girlfriend, who'd actually here several times prior. Which actually made it a lot easier to oder based on her personal suggestions. We both ended up ordering the following: Drinks: Strawberry Soda pop with boba Meals: The Take Two. Half crispy, (dark meat) half light (chicken breast) (2x) The food and drinks were good. I'd probably opt to order the Take Two meal all in half crispy as that my preferred type of chicken; my girlfriend prefers the Half light option more. As it's more meat amd less fat, I just find it less flavorful in general. The young man at the counter was really helpful and friendly, and made ordering really easy.

Stopped by for a quick take out on Friday evening! I've been wanting to try this spot for awhile. There's a small parking lot for the restaurant which is always nice. Service was good. The cashier/service was prompt and friendly with my order. :) Food ordered: Classic & Take2 The classic was fresh and yummy and their chicken breast and thigh with skin wasn't too dry. The rice could have been more fragrant but still very tasty and flavorful. For the Take2 with the mix of half chicken and half crispy.. the crispy chicken was very crispy and perfectly cooked. Really enjoyed this combo! The Take2 comes with their signature sauce and a sweet and sour sauce. I think I prefer the general garlic dipping sauce that they have. It was flavorful and pairs will well with the dish. The sweet and sour sauce was nothing spectacular.. just your normal sweet and spicy sauce! Id rather get more of the other brown garlicy sauce :) both dishes came with a yummy soup ... It was simple yet flavorful. It kinda reminded me of chicken pho broth. Paired well with our chicken and rice dinner! Overall, this place is perfect to satisfy that haineases chicken and rice craving (:

Chicken Classic Meal with Broth

Did a takeout order and was Very impressed. All the dishes sound and look great. Went with the Traditional Chicken Thigh dish and couldn't be more happy with my choice. Chicken was very moist and over a bed of rice with their sauce was a great combination. People were friendly and the restaurant seemed very clean. Will continue to support this small business.

Got to get the crispy chicken and it was yummy and flavorful! I think the sweet and sour sauce really bright out the flavor. For Thai tea also and it was super refreshing, not too sweet. Plenty of seating and food comes out super fast! Would love to try more of their menu

Combo of crispy and steamed chicken
Sarah T.

My first time trying this place and it was really good. Love the half and half option for indecisive people like me who wants to try both crispy and steamed chicken. Each one came with a different sauce. The crispy one came with a sweet and sour sauce and the steamed chicken came with a garlic sauce, both delicious. Loved the cucumbers on the side as well, such a great option for a quick, take out meal. One order was enough for two meals for me. Very satisfying and would order this again next time.

Curry noodle Gai - yellow curry with thin noodles cooked tomatoes, cooked peppers and plenty of chicken..

Nice restaurant with yummy foods - photo display helps you to see what will be served. Hostess/waitress/cashier was so nice and helpful explaining the ingredients, style of cooking and flavoring.

Crizp Chicken, Sweet Chilli Sauce and chicken broth.

When we read customer reviews of Gai'N Rice, we knew that we had to check them out for ourselves. We were not disappointed. We planned to order our food to go and from the moment we entered the restaurant until we left the entire experience was excellent. We were pleasantly greeted by the cashier when we entered. She patiently answered our questions about the food and drinks menu items giving us enough details to help us choose our wonderfully tasty food and drink choices. Kudos to the cashier. Our to go order was bundled to perfection. Along with the two main meal containers, we had small containers of sauce and two medium size containers of broth; but, we found absolutely no spillage or leaking after opening the bag. Nice! We did not have to dip our chicken pieces in the bag or slide it around our counter top. We thoroughly enjoyed the Crizp Chicken, sticky-rice, and dumplings as each was simply scrumptious! In fact, our meal was food coma DELICIOUS. The sweet chilli sauce that came with meal was actually good and not as spicy as I'd thought it would be. I'm not a fan of spicy sauces. The broth was ok, but could have had a little more flavor. Lastly, I must confess that after eating I did settled into a state of bliss that I can only identify as a food coma. That state of bliss was most satisfying and worth repeating. The food is pricey, but worth it. We ordered two drinks. For me - Brown Sugar Herbal Jelly Milk Tea and my hubby - Strawberry Lemonade. I love extra sweet drinks. My drink was both tasty and sweet to my liking. I have added Gai'N Rice to my favorite list of places to order milk teas. I always specify extra sweet when I order milk teas. However, at other places that I've ordered from I ended up receiving a tasteless bland drink, and the added jellies did not add to the flavor. This was not the case with our drinks. Our drinks were YUMMY!!! I give Gai'N Rice 5 stars and 10 forks up. Yes, I will recommend this place to friends, family, and others looking for a good food.

Curry puff
Helen O.

Our first time here. We had the half fried and half composed of hainan chicken and which was served with garlicky sauce while Fried chicken was served sweet chili sauce. And we had curry puff, curry chicken and Thai tea. They were pretty good.

Rochelle S.

Loved Gai 'N. Rice!, the broth, the rice, the chicken, you cannot go wrong if you get fried or original, it's a matter of preference. Expect to spend money when you get here but you get quality food. The dipping sauce are different for both and they compliment them. Also got the Mango and Sticky rice. Service is fast, pricy but good food, I will let you decide if it's for you but I would def give this place a shot! Sooo delicioso!

Is this plain Thai food? I didn't know Thai eat like this? Is it religious food?

I don't think it's a Thai restaurant. They mainly served chicken dishes.

Is this location halal?

I called the restaurant and they said everything is halal although I just saw they also serve pork items.

When we arrived, the restaurant was lively and buzzing with energy. We were promptly seated at our table and began looking over the menu. To start, I ordered a mocktail while my two girlfriends ordered cocktails. We decided that we were just going to order a variety of tapas and share them, which is exactly why I picked this restaurant. All in all, we ended up ordering the croquettes, the garlic shrimp, the empanadas of the day (which were potato and cheese), the patatas bravas, and a pork dish that I don't remember the name. Eat and every dish was absolutely delicious and bursting with flavor. So if you find yourself in the mood for some tapas and want a wonderful, lively atmosphere, come check out Tapa the World.

Before sitting down, my boyfriend checked with the server regarding availability. We were seated on the patio, our order was taken, and our food was brought out. After that, we were essentially forgotten. We received no follow-up service whatsoever--no check-in to see if we needed anything, no offer for additional drinks, and no inquiry about how the food was. We understood there was only one server working, so we tried to be patient. However, when we were ready to leave, we spent approximately 30 minutes trying to get the server's attention for our check. We repeatedly waved and made eye contact, but he never came outside. Eventually, I walked inside and handed him my card. His response was that they were "not serving the patio" and that he believed he had told us that beforehand. If that is the case, the patio should be closed or clearly marked as unavailable for service. Customers should not be seated, served food, and then ignored for the remainder of their visit. Unfortunately, the food did not make up for the service. The lamb was extremely tough, and the sausage served with the shrimp dish was also hard and overcooked. We're not the type to leave negative reviews, but this experience fell well below what should be expected from any restaurant. We hope management addresses both the service issues and food quality so future customers don't have the same experience.

Right from the moment we walked in, the positive attributes of the venue were clear. The entire restaurant was noticeably clean, tidy, and well-maintained, creating an inviting and comfortable atmosphere for our group. Furthermore, the front-of-house staff provided genuinely good service throughout the evening. Our server was attentive, polite, and handled our larger table with ease, ensuring our drinks stayed full and our orders were taken promptly. Unfortunately, the high standards maintained by the service staff did not translate to what came out of the kitchen. For my entree, I ordered their advertised California Fish and Chips, anticipating a classic, satisfying seafood dish. What was actually served felt more like "chips and fish." The plate was overwhelmingly dominated by a massive mound of soggy, limp fries, while the actual fish was remarkably scarce. I would realistically estimate that the dish consisted of only about 10% fish and 90% subpar fries. For a specialty entree, the severe lack of protein and the poor, mushy texture of the fries made the meal incredibly disappointing to eat. The frustration of the meal was compounded when the final bill arrived and we noticed a 20% automatic tip added to the total due to our group size of six. While we entirely understand and respect that automatic gratuity is a standard industry practice to protect hardworking servers, and our server truly did a great job, it is incredibly frustrating as a customer to be forced to pay a premium tip when the kitchen delivers such a poorly executed and disproportionate meal. A high service charge should reflect a high-quality experience from both the staff and the kitchen, but unfortunately, the lackluster food deeply overshadowed the excellent service.

There was only a handful of people already seated so I'm not sure if reservations were really necessary. I'm a reservation kind of girl so if you can make reservations then usually I do. I have learned that not all sit down restaurants offer the opportunity to make reservations. Parking is tricky in midtown. When you do find parking it will be metered. Even on Sundays they charge for parking. We ended up parking down the street at 19th. Not a bad walk. Thankfully my husband dropped us off so we were exactly in time for our reservations and when he parked he joined us. Just a note, make sure you put plenty of money in the meter. For a us a party of 4 eating a leisurely dinner it took us approximately 2.5 hours. We never felt rushed. The menu is vast and there list of specials was as long as the mini menu they gave us. I wish they would write out the specials you can reference them as you decide what to get. A little computer print out would be perfect. We were a party of 4 and we all pitched in when it came to ordering. My two favorite Tapas was the stuffed giant tomato and Pulpo A La Gallegos ($16.95) . Octopus in adobo marinade, scalloped potatoes with pimento. I think I've had Octopus once before, but I can't recall exactly. This one was delicious. I'm glad Ed ordered it. It was tasty, tender, and not chewy. The tomato was stuffed with maybe a ham mixture, it was part of the specials menu so I didn't quite comprehend what it was exactly, but it sounded good so we ordered it. The Watermelon Gazpacho was also very refreshing and tasty. I would order a bowl if it was offered again. It was also one of the specials. We also ordered the Pechaga De Paso ($17.95), duck breast pan seared in a Sherry & fennel sauce with Swiss Chard. The Swiss Chard made a really nice accompaniment. I ordered the Colas De Brusseles (around $10). I am a trusted Brussels sport fan so I liked it, though not very exciting. We also ordered the Pan Y Aioli Julia's Blancas ($3.25) This bread service was a nice filler, but not as good as I remember it. For our Paella selection we ordered the Valenciana ($49.95) My favorite part of it was the tasty saffron rice. I found the chicken thighs and pork spareribs tasty too. The mussels, calamari, and shrimp were plentiful, especially the Calamari. We were worried that we should have ordered two, but with all the tapas we ordered one was plenty. I'd like to try their veggie one next time. We made a dinner plate of sword fish into a tapas for the table. It was also a special. It was virtually flavorless, just like I appreciate fish. I don't like the fishy flavor so many fishes give off so this one was perfect. It came with mini potato and tomato towers and a very tasty mango chutney that I really enjoyed with every bite. For dessert we had the Crema Catalina Con Naranja. ($8) My favorite part was cracking though the sugar and getting the piece of orange. We also had the Pastel Almendaras ($8). I was surprised it was made with almond meal versus almond flower. The almond meal made it meatier. I used to use almond meal to make a gluten free quick bread so I'm familial with the product. The cake was tasty and I enjoyed the honey and orange sauce topped whipped cream too. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. The out door seating looked very cute, but we were weary of bugs. I'm not a fan of getting eaten alive. We wait indoors and surprisingly it wasn't too cold inside. The restaurant is ornately furnished. The calla lily light fixtures was really nice. The restaurant was well lit and as the sun went over head they opened up the outdoor window coverings. This is a great special occasion restaurant. A great place to take family and friends to celebrate. The bigger the group the better so you have the opportunity to try multiple dishes. We came as a couple and weren't able to try as many dishes compared to the 4 of us dining.

Food 3.8 Service 3.7…read more Saturday night and wife wanted Thai food, so she/we wanted to go back to Rao so she can have their Mango Sticky Rice for dessert. When we walked in, we were greeted, sat promptly, and provided water while we looked over the menu. My wife took a call from her sister, so luckily she gave me her order before stepping outside to finish the call: chicken yellow curry, "the boat" noodle soup, crispy pork belly and of course mango sticky rice. I did mention for the pork belly to come out with dinner so my wife wouldn't get full from eating the appetizer. Unfortunately the pork belly came out first then followed with the main dishes 5 minutes later which is not how I asked for the food to arrive. Was it a deal breaker, in the larger scheme of things it wasn't but for this review it is. The food is delicious but a bit heavy on the fish sauce and tamarind for my liking in the Boat noodle soup.
