Had a craving for chicken karaage so decided to check out EBISU. First time visit and it did not disappoint! Located off Elk Grove Blvd in a small shopping plaza with lots of parking. Tonight, I ordered take out for us, from Ebisu, as Dining Elk Grove week comes to a close on Sunday. I ordered a beef teriyaki entree and mixed tempura. Nikki was quick to greet me and take my order, and whether she's serving your table or taking your order to go, she's wonderful, and remembers most of her customers. The tempura was very good, but unfortunately, the lid wasn't tight on the sauce container, so we lost much of the sauce, which was absorbed into the yam and one of the shrimp. I love the teriyaki sauce on the beef. It really adds the flavor to the beef, which was grilled perfectly, and sliced beautifully. But the meat, no fault of the chef, was really chewy and gristley. The flavor was so good, I chewed on each piece, until it couldn't break down, and had a side dish to place it in. It was just one of those chewy pieces that sneaks in there. The vegetables were very fresh, and steamed the way I like it, with the carrot having a slight crunch. read more

We came in around 9:15 p.m. on Saturday night, 9/12/2026, after spending the day in San Francisco. Surprisingly, there weren't many people dining in that night. There were about three tables, including ours, and a couple sitting at the sushi bar. The host and our server were both very friendly and attentive. The food was delicious too! Everything we ordered was really good, and the balance of the seasonings and sauces was amazing. We also ordered a tonkatsu ramen, which my kids loved. The restaurant was clean and comfortable, and I was also impressed by how clean the restroom was. It was our first time here, and we really enjoyed both the food and our overall experience. During dinner, my daughter accidentally knocked one of their small sauce bowls onto the floor and it broke. She immediately said, "I'm sorry," and someone from the sushi bar who heard what happened responded, "It's okay." I didn't think too much of the broken bowl itself because I knew it was simply an accident, but I really appreciated how the staff responded to my daughter. Their immediate reassurance helped her understand that she was okay and that accidents happen. A few minutes later, the host came by and cleaned up the larger pieces. He kindly reminded us to be careful and not to step on any of the broken pieces that might still be on the floor. As a parent, their response also reassured me. Sometimes when your child accidentally breaks something in a restaurant, you don't know how the staff will react or whether you'll be made to feel uncomfortable about it. Instead, they were understanding and didn't make us feel bad. I especially appreciated that they reassured my daughter rather than making her feel ashamed for an honest mistake. That small interaction said a lot to me about their customer service. At the end of the night, our host came by again and went out of his way to pack up our leftovers for us. I thought that was very sweet and kind of him, especially since it was getting close to closing time. It was a nice way to end our first visit. My parents recently discovered the secret menu that is the $50 all you can eat! Either it's a special deal for just my Asian mandarin speaking parents, or it might be the real deal! It was the waiter's recommendation when my father and his friends came over after some golf. While 50 large isn't something to sneeze at, nowadays it's just about there with 2 rolls! What does it come with? It starts with a set menu of slices of high grade and generous cut of sashimi, ami ebi, toro, hamachi, salmon tuna etc. lobster roll, oysters with uni on top, cooked dishes of hamachi kama, sea bass and lamb chops! I've been to Ebisu a couple times and always more impressed than the last visit. The restaurant is spacious, clean with attentive service. We ordered the spicy edamame, tiger roll, caterpillar roll and sashimi special. Every dish Ebisu makes looks like a culinary work of art - and tastes just as great. The portions are tremendous. Came in on a Friday night and it was pretty busy but we got sat right away without a wait. Ordered the teriyaki and sesame chicken entrees. They brought out my fiancés food first, and mine finally like 15 mins later. They must've forgotten about mine because by the time mine came out, the chicken was piping hot but the veggies on the plate were already cold. Not even room temperature, but just cold. My husband and I went on a little date night the other day. We came to probably our newest and best sushi spot we've had in a while! Everything was so fresh and came out quickly. We were seated quickly, (arrived around 4pm), we were given water and asked about appetizers. We ordered Pepper fin, 2 oyster shooters, 2 orders of salmon nigiri (amazing!!!) and miso soup. Overall not a big fan of their sushi rolls. A lot of them had this white sauce on top which I found very sour and not very fitting for sushi in general. So that was disappointing. The rolls without the white sauce were great, and they used the typical unagi sweet sauce and spicy mayo. Lots of imitation crab and cucumber in their rolls. I decided to give Ebisu another chance because it's close to home and Unfortunately, I was disappointed again. I ordered takeout, and my entire Hokkaido roll was made with shrimp that still had the shell/skin on. Every piece had it, making the roll unpleasant and difficult to eat. This isn't something that should make it out of the kitchen, especially with sushi where the texture is such an important part of the experience. I received a bowl of miso soup first. That was standard. Overall, I was pretty impressed by The taste of the food as the beef teriyaki was quite tender/smoky and the sesame chicken had a great batter to chicken ratio. I should note that their teriyaki sauce is quite sweet, so I advise that you should ask for it on the side if you don't like your food that sweet. It came with plenty of white rice to eat with it too. The entree also came with a salad with some light dressing which was and fresh. No wilted leaves here! I also ordered a tiger sushi roll to share. It had a lot of the ingredients that I like and was really tasty. The size of the roll was pretty decent as well. I should have listened to my gut--within hours of eating, I was hit with full-blown food poisoning and spent the entire night feeling miserable, up and sick, regretting every bite. "Cheap" rolls are clearly not worth risking your stomach. This place sacrifices quality for gimmicky promotions, and now I've paid the price. Save yourself the misery and avoid it.
