The portions are a little small for the price, so I don't recommend this restaurant if you're really hungry! It's more like a stop for drinks and snacks, if I'm being honest. We came here tonight and found out they are closing. It's so sad that they are leaving. They have been sold to another company. Their last day of service is this Saturday. They told me that they weren't really making it so they sold the business. It's really sad since we really like their food and especially their beef teriyaki. It was always the best. For me, Hello Temaki is the place to go for Hand Rolls and adding the usuals to make a complete meal. Update: recently tried the 3 set premium hand roll including Snowcrab, fresh Hokkaido Scallop (not frozen), and Bluefin Toro and it was one of the best sushi I've had in the Sacramento area. Upon entering, we were quickly greeted and sat down. My go to is the 5 set Hand Roll and add Udon, Hamachi Kama, appetizers, or additional hand rolls like the soft shell crab. The 5 set hand roll includes Salmon, Spicy Tuna, Yuzu Negihama, Tsubugai, and Escolar. They have traditional Genmaicha Tea which I always order with my meal. I appreciate the use of plastic around the seaweed to maintain the crispiness of the seaweed. The seafood taste fresh and the perfect size cut for sushi. There's a few muted TVs in the room with slow chill music to easily allow hearing conversations at the table. We both ordered the 3 handroll premium set! It's a bit pricey but honestly with the amount of fish/seafood on there, it was worth! What I recommend: If you're not sure what to get, start with the 3 or 5 piece hand roll set. It's a great way to sample a few options and decide if you want to order more. Honestly, the portion size is already pretty satisfying for the price. You can always add on as you go! Some of our favorites beyond what's already included in the set are: Spicy Hokaaido Scallop, Ocean Trout, Blue Aged Toro & Uni hand rolls, Sashimi selections, Hokkaido Uni Toast, Uni Pasta, and the Chicken Skewers -- the chimichurri sauce on those is incredibly flavorful. Every hand roll and dish we've tried has been excellent -- fresh, high quality, and perfectly balanced in flavor. We ordered 2 sets of the 3 hand roll (I called it taco sushi) and a Crunch time house roll to share. It was the perfect amount. The staff were attentive and respectful of us, since we talked more than we ate lol. We love the Japan adaption of the seaweed disposable wrappers for the handrolls. It's nice to know that the seaweed wont be soggy by the time you eat it. Love that you had a choice of 3 or 5 handrolls and all of them were different. As a sushi fan, I was excited to try this establishment for the first time last night. Hello Temaki did not disappoint! It is very spacious inside and I love how the sushi bar is situated - central to the whole restaurant with tables placed around the perimeter of the building. The service was friendly and attentive from first contact with the hostess to all throughout the night with our waitress. She was helpful in suggesting items off the menu and promptly tended to our asks. As a party of 4, we opted to share a lot of the food items in order to get a sampling of many things. We ordered grilled oysters, tempura green beans, salmon hand rolls, and a few sushi rolls (lemon wave, lady in red, and uncle John). Collectively we enjoyed the lemon wave roll most. It was so balanced and had a refreshing bite. The other rolls were also tasty and unique and flavor. No complaints from me. As a downside, we all thought the oysters were just too huge to enjoy. As people who would rather slurp oysters as opposed to bite and chew through their gross texture, the size made it impossible to do this. But, oysters are good for you, so we ate them anyway, trying not to gag. It felt a little like trying to compete for a million dollars on Fear Factor, if you remember that show haha. But now we have a lot more hand roll and a really affordable Happy Hours menu that can save me a couple of bucks. Yay. Previously gotten the hr combo. The 5 piece is just right. I think it's decently priced and I like the variety. Taste was pretty on point. Have been venturing out with trying different type of hand rolls as well so I'm still trying different things. Yesterday the tempura unagi was a favorite from the happy hour menu. I also liked the tsubugai. I didn't love the ika mentai but it could just be me. We try table side this time but usually the bar is the better hand roll experience. It took them some extra time to get our food out so I'm glad it was a Saturday where I could just chill in the restaurant a bit. I wanted to try the sawagani on the special board but they didn't have it so I would recommend looking at the board and ask ahead to save some time. Our last thing that came out was the kisu tempura. I think I would prefer it to have a stronger tartar sauce - their egg tartar sauce is a bit mild so it didn't give a good kick to the tempura. However I'm impressed by the service. Since it took extra time to come out they gave us extra pieces. They also were super kind and keep check up on us. I am very appreciative of the exceptional service. After coming a handful of times now, I really love Hello Temaki. It's the spot I'll take friends from out of town to try and it has even become a spot where I'll come to during lunch on weekdays. They have a weekday happy hour menu that I tend to order the gyozas and spicy tuna hand roll off of as a starter, and depending on how hungry I am, I either order a few more hand rolls for a lighter lunch or I'll opt for the bento box if I want something to fill me up more. My favorite hand roll is the Aburi Salmon hand roll. It's seared salmon with a sweet soy sauce that makes it really good. I also like the classic salmon hand roll and spicy tuna hr. Their Udon Noodle Soup is good and comforting for when it's cold out--the broth is slightly sweet and not too sweet in a good way. For drinks, my favorite cocktail is the lychee sojutini. It is so refreshing and better than most lychee martinis that I've had. They also have beer and sake I believe on their happy hour menu which is nice to have as an option. We all went with the lunch bento boxes, and everyone picked two different options, so we got to try a good variety. The food was beautifully presented, super fresh and tasted great. We visited on a Monday when they had their All Day Happy Hour. Since we arrived a little after 5PM (when they re-open for dinner), it was empty except for one other group. The two of us ordered a total of 3 dishes: Truffle Hamachi, the 3 Set Hand Roll of salmon, spicy tuna, and yuzu negihama, and the Dreamer house roll. This definitely was not enough to fill us up. The Truffle Hamachi was only slightly discounted from the Happy Hour menu (originally $22 for 9 slices, now $12 for 5 slices). However, the flavors exceeded my expectations. I'm not even a fan of microgreens, but I shoveled them into my mouth. The hand rolls came wrapped in plastic that you pull apart. The size of the hand rolls were smaller than I expected (and now I know why the waitress asked if we wanted to keep one menu at the table after we ordered). I wasn't too impressed with the salmon or spicy tuna, but I really liked the yuzu negihama. I might just go for the basic roll version of that next time instead of a hand roll. The Dreamer house roll contained spicy tuna, torched escolar, shiso, and a healthy heaping of kimchi mayo and thai chili sauce. I normally prefer simple rolls where the focus is on the quality of the fish, but I enjoyed this combination of flavors with that slight kick of heat.
