Awesome spot in Elk Grove! Very unique - a lot of sushi spots, but not many hand rolls places. The decor is modern, with open concept kitchen. Tables are spaced out nicely. The service was impeccable - we came with a 10wk old and she was fussy, the waitress asked if she could help walk the stroller around the restaurant and ended up putting us in the private room in case our baby cried! We visited on a Monday when they had their All Day Happy Hour. Since we arrived a little after 5PM (when they re-open for dinner), it was empty except for one other group. The two of us ordered a total of 3 dishes: Truffle Hamachi, the 3 Set Hand Roll of salmon, spicy tuna, and yuzu negihama, and the Dreamer house roll. This definitely was not enough to fill us up. The Truffle Hamachi was only slightly discounted from the Happy Hour menu (originally $22 for 9 slices, now $12 for 5 slices). However, the flavors exceeded my expectations. I'm not even a fan of microgreens, but I shoveled them into my mouth. The hand rolls came wrapped in plastic that you pull apart. The size of the hand rolls were smaller than I expected (and now I know why the waitress asked if we wanted to keep one menu at the table after we ordered). I wasn't too impressed with the salmon or spicy tuna, but I really liked the yuzu negihama. I might just go for the basic roll version of that next time instead of a hand roll. The Dreamer house roll contained spicy tuna, torched escolar, shiso, and a healthy heaping of kimchi mayo and thai chili sauce. I normally prefer simple rolls where the focus is on the quality of the fish, but I enjoyed this combination of flavors with that slight kick of heat. The three-piece hand roll set was a good sampler-the salmon hand roll was my favorite. We were really impressed with the rolls. The lemon wave was our favorite, though the lady in red was also very good too. The fish was fresh and they weren't overwhelmed with sauce like a lot of places like Sushi-q. We only wish there had maybe a handful more roll selections to pick from! While it's on the pricey side, it's well worth it for a special occasion. Really like the vibe here. Pretty modern-chill sushi restaurant. The first time I visited, they specialized in hand rolls. And if I'm not mistaken, its their sushi which is eaten, what I like to reference, a taco. Taco being the seaweed. Interesting concept but since then, they offer a sushi menu which is really good with everything else. Especially the appetizers. They have counter sitting by the sushi chefs. Staff is friendly and I enjoy going here. But I haven't made it my "go-to" place when other sushi places offer half-off on their menu. I'll support this sushi restaurant as best as I can. This is our first time to Hello Temaki. We've heard about the store from coworkers before and we finally tried it today. The staff is very nice. Polite and friendly and speedy. The ambience is nice. We went after lunch hour rush on a Saturday around 2pm and the store is almost empty. Only 1 table with 2 girls as customers. I definitely will love to come to this place for ladies lunch and chit chat! Very nice ambiance! We got to-go and they prepare it very fast. It is located next to Pokemon gym so I just place the order, beat that gym before picking up again. The food is good. We've heard all about their rolls/fresh ingredients, and we were very surprised we actually liked their bento boxes way more than their rolls! They have rolls set, but they didn't allow substitutions. Unfortunately almost all the sets have that specific fish we are sensitive except one, so we just picked that 3 hand rolls set. The specific fish was Escolar, which is not a popular fish especially Asia, and sometimes people tummy cannot handle this fish well. While we have not tried this specific fish from Hello Temaki, we don't want to chance it. It would be nice to allow elimination of certain ingredients from a set or have more set options. No biggie though. The teriyaki dishes, both Salmon and Chicken, is probably the best in EG! It is very good. The tonkatsu is good too, a bit too thin which is typical style in America. Crispy, fresh, and not oily. I was surprised I love their salad. Very fresh with the sweet grated onion sauce. Ok so now if everything was so good, why 4 stars? The problem is there is comparison. There is another Japanese restaurant down the road, food comparable and much better priced. That other restaurant has cheaper bento with additional appetizers (fried dumplings, korokke, with choice of tempura/California rolls). So for sit down dine-in experience with a friend/coworker, I will prefer Hello Temaki. For family or big gathering or take out, from a long run price point of view, I might pick the other one (especially when my wallet is empty). I will definitely return and highly recommend this restaurant. P.S. I am not a fan of the plastic sheet in a sushi bar. If you are at a convenience store, mass production at low cost while trying to keep ingredients crisp/fresh, that might make sense. If you are at a wannabe high end sushi bar, it is just messy, non-environmental friendly, and defeat the purpose. It seems a good idea for take out but true high end sushi restaurant don't do takeout and to-go... this in-between gimmick just increase the cost of operation. It is the usual ika texture which many do not like nor appreciate. The flavor is different. I cannot say if I like it or not. I love and appreciate ika in something aside from nigiri. Hello Tamaki? Goodbye Tamaki. Let me always start with some good things: food was pretty solid. Teriyaki salmon was cooked perfectly. Rolls were fresh. There ends the positive. This may have been one of the most odd experiences I've had at a restaurant. There was no clear person to greet our group, they don't text but they also don't call out names. They just told us to "check back" in maybe 30 min or less. We ordered edemame and BBQ tuna. They were great but small portions. Even so, besides check-in, things were going well. The Bento box I ordered came out and looked great. The red onion vinaigrette was amazing and added beautiful color. As manners dictate, I waited to eat since not everyone had their food but it was going on a bit long and my group encouraged me to eat before it was cold. Things got weird. I ate my entire meal before any other food came out and waited even more. For perspective, I am not a pro at chopsticks and I even finished my rice. Finally we had to say something since nobody checked on us, as they were delivering food to all the tables around us. One person at my table even joked, "Did we do something to make them mad?" When we finally got staff attention, they apologized, said they didn't have enough staff. OK but why even bring out my food? Another person's roll finally came out and it tasted great. 3rd person in the group, still no food. Maybe we are being "punk'd". The second person completes their meal when finally our 3rd person gets food. When we got the check, another apology. The thing is, actions speak louder than words and people pay so much money to go out to eat. For us, it was $25 a person at least. Would I go back to spend money there? No. I was hoping they would offer a free dessert, knock a roll off but just an apology. It's weird because Hello Temaki has really good ratings. Here's what we ordered: Note: I came in during soft opening so some of the items and pricing may have been altered since my visit. * Garlic Salmon Carpaccio ($16): You could SEE the fatty marbling in it, melt in your mouth good! * Pork Katsu Skewers ($7): Cute little katsu lollipops. The panko was nice and crunchy with the pork still being juicy inside * 3 Hand Roll Set ($22): My ranking of these go 1) Yuzu Negihama 2) Salmon 3) Spicy Tuna * Ocean Trout ($9): Suuuper savory! I think I would've liked it more if I didn't already have so many other garlic-flavored dishes * 5 Hand Roll Set ($38): The Kanpachi Hand Roll is TOP TIER!! My usual issue with "open" temaki is that when you take a bite, everything comes spilling out the back and into your hand. Nooo issue with that here! OMAKASE REVIEW. This is my third time here, but my first for the Omakase. If you're coming for hand rolls and a couple of beers or a cocktail, this is a great place. But if you're coming for Omakase, I would look elsewhere. Service: If I'm going out for sushi, I'm not expecting five-star service, but if I'm coming for Omakase, I want you to know everything and describe everything to me. I also want to be served correctly. Don't put drinks on my left-hand side, and don't just throw all my food at me in the middle of me and my wife. Serve it properly to me the way it's supposed to. If I'm paying $125 per person from the start, I expect quality service. Food: don't get me wrong. This place had some delicious food, but some very odd choices. The restaurant is a hand roll place, and the only hand roll we received was absolutely disgusting. It was a dry, shredded beef hand roll. The worst bite of the entire meal. There were some standouts like the fatty tuna dishes, but overall, the food felt flat. The couple next to us did not eat several dishes that were not Omakase-worthy. Overall, the whole night just felt flat from the service to the food to the nearly $400 price tag. I've been here many times and could've eaten better for $200--too many mediocre dishes and mediocre service. I'm a long-time service industry worker, and I don't like leaving these reviews, but the service was utterly lacking, which I put entirely on the restaurant. They specialize in hand rolls and with this massive wooden bar seating arrangement it sets up the perfect atmosphere for a lively and engaging experience. We started with the Wagyu sliders, not exactly what you'd expect at a sushi bar, but surprisingly tasty. They were juicy, well-seasoned, and cooked with a slight pink in the middle, quite satisfying. We tried so many of them but our favorite was definitely the spicy scallop HR it was so buttery melt in your mouth good. I have to say all the handrolls have really good flavor profiles and the quality of the fish is really fresh. You can tell that they really care about their craft here. The customer service was wonderful our waiter was very attentive and helped me figure out some of the items on the menu. I think the plastic wrap that comes with each handroll was somewhat tedious. It made the experience really messy and somewhat awkward to eat, especially in quite an intimate dine-in experience. Visited last night for the first time to celebrate my birthday and my friend's. We coincidentally came on the night the revised menu was launched, so I can't compare to the previous. However, I loved everything we ordered from the Lychee Sojutini, pepperfin, the new sushi rolls, and lychee ice cream. I forgot my phone at home, so unfortunately no pictures were taken of the beautiful food and drinks. But I definitely will be back. Service is A+ and so is the cleanliness of the place and atmosphere. I'm happy for this addition to our neighborhood! read more

Hands down one of the best dining experiences I've had in Sacramento! We came into Hello Temaki right before closing, and even though it was late, the staff welcomed us with so much warmth. They didn't rush us at all, which I really appreciated, and they took the time to put together the perfect spread for us. Every bite was incredible. I had my first hand roll experience recently while visiting LA and completely fell in love with it. Ever since, I've been hoping to find something similar back home -- and I'm so excited that Hello Temaki is here! The fish was super fresh, the rice was perfectly seasoned, and you could tell a lot of care went into every roll. The vibe of the restaurant is super laid-back but polished, and the service really made it memorable. I'm already looking forward to coming back -- this is definitely going to be a new regular spot for me! read more

I honestly found out this new handroll spot in Elk Grove 30 minutes before arrival, so I had no expectations at all. The large counter/sushi bar is impressive and chic. The seats were oddly low for me, and I had the urge to peek over what's on the other side of the counter...lol They also have regular tables for large parties. We got the set of 5 handrolls (Salmon, Spicy Tuna, Yuzu Negihama, Kanpaci, and Escolar) to try. The spicy tuna was our favorite and got 2 more. The fish was fresh, and I like that it wasn't drenched in heavy sauce. We also got the 5 pieces of sashimi because of high protein! I really like the fried oyster with the tartar sauce and shrimp tempura. Both nicely fried, crispy, and not overly battered. Seoul Sister cocktail was very refreshing with yuzu elderflower infused soju, prosecco, and mint. Great for hot summer days! Overall, I like the food and menu. It is pricey for a small portion of food. The set of 5 handrolls was $38, and my husband could have easily eaten 10 handrolls. read more

Lots of hype around Hello Temaki! I've been waiting for months after seeing the sign go up so I have been eager to come try it. I came on a Friday for lunch with a friend. I wasn't sure if it would be a family friendly type of place but it does have a more casual feel at lunch time with the brighter lighting and TV screens. I wasn't expecting them to have a high chair but luckily they did! No kids cups or plastic utensils or anything like that though. The menu is mainly all hand rolls, with just a handful of cooked entree choices and an array of your standard Japanese food appetizers. They were offering 15% off on certain items but none of them caught our eye. I ended up picking the 3 hand roll set because it was just $1 more than if I picked two of the hand rolls that I was eyeing. The only downside is you can't pick those 3 in the set and they're already preset but they were all items I wouldn't mind. The seaweed of the hand rolls have plastic to ensure freshness so they have instructions on the table on how to remove it. It was confusing at first but I got the hang of it by my second one, but actually by figuring out an easier way than how the instructions explained it. I've been to other hand roll places but they don't have the plastic on it, they just serve them one by one to help ensure freshness of the seaweed, and I'd prefer that honestly. My favorite of the set was the salmon, as expected. The yuzu negihara was my next favorite and I loved the bright acidity of it. The spicy tuna was good but nothing super special. My friend and I also shared the garlic carpaccio which surprisingly took much longer to come out. It was tasty but not something I need to spend on to get again. After the 3 hand roll set and splitting the carpaccio, I wouldn't say I was full but I also wasn't hungry. I could probably have eaten one more hand roll. Our bill was approximately $75 after 2 of the sets and carpaccio. I think I'd prefer to just pay a little extra and go to a nicer AYCE sushi place instead. The ambiance was nice here for a date night if I didn't want to go all the way to downtown, but otherwise there are still a couple other nice sushi places in town that I would pick first. I think I was also a little put off by the service. The guy in particular seemed really judgy and would look at my daughter if she dropped her food whenever he walked over. They had a few people at the bar but seemed like our server was the one running all over. They would keep checking on us to refill waters or ask if we wanted to order more and finally after the third time I had to tell them that we were ready for the check. Just little things like that all add up. I would give 3.5 stars overall but I'm rounding up in favor of the taste of most of our items. read more
