Definitely NOT coming back!!!! This was my first time back in 10 years. My husband and I usually go to a sushi buffet in West Sac but decided to come here because it's been awhile since we been here. I looked at reviews before coming here and I don't know what they are talking about. Honestly the sushi is not that good. Especially for the price you pay. Nothing looked fresh! The fried bananas and fried sesame seed balls taste like they were fried in old oil. They had a funny taste. One of the servers was constantly on his phone and when he was talking to other servers he was cussing. How unprofessional! I felt like we were rushed and it says you have 90 minutes. I originally went to their buffet in Davis and was thrilled when they opened up in Elk Grove They have many options for rolls along with the many dishes served in the boats floating around the bar. I have no complaints!!! None!!! The best ever along with the excellent customer service. I use the low sodium soy sauce and one of the servers remembered. This restaurant is where I discovered my love for (AYCE) sushi as a teenager, and my family and I have been loyal customers ever since! The rolls are delicious (Fuji roll and Titanic roll have been my favorites for years), sashimi is fresh, and they have a wide variety of hot menu items to choose from as well. I've tried Fuji in Vacaville and Concord, but what I appreciate most about this location is how much they care about their customers. Stan knows what we want to order the minute we arrive and that makes the experience all the more special. He even offers us some of his special creations, like the seared salmon belly nigiri with all the fixings which was AMAZING. We also love the hand rolls, especially the Zigzack and the Robin (which is another secret menu item with imitation crab, shrimp tempura, avocado, tobiko, and sauces). They tend to put out some unique items on the rotating boats too, like bite size poke nachos and spruced up nigiris, but you're welcome to grab anything off of the boats from the sides if you're not seated at the bar. The ambience is nice, clean, and casual. Gone are the days of their Chinese food buffet section, but they have done an amazing job at maintaining high quality food and service. Fuji is an Elk Grove staple and one of my favorite restaurants to visit! I come here at least once a month and it does not disappoint! When you first step in, you are greeted by friendly staff and they ask you if you'd like a seat by the boats or a table. Their menu isn't the biggest but it has exactly what I look for. Ordering food there isn't like your usual restaurant, you have walk up to the middle and talk to the chef for sashimi, rolls and hand rolls. For appetizers like soft shell crab and grilled yellowtail collar, you can order them at the table with server. I'm a raw fish person, so I typically order salmon and yellowtail sashimi, and since I order it so much I don't even have to tell the chef sometimes! I always ask for the "large" sashimi plates, as they don't do a specific number of pieces per order, and it usually has over 10 decently sized pieces. Orders come out pretty quick, I would say between 5-10 minutes. Sometimes the chef will ask you to stand to the side for a minute and they'll have it ready. If I were to recommend some things to order, it'd be the You're the Man hand roll and the spicy seared salmon! They're so delicious and no other place has something like it! The restaurant gives off a "home-y" vibe and I really enjoy being there when it's busy. The boats going around in the water while carrying food adds to the aesthetic and it's fun looking around trying to find the things you want. I always go for the salmon and unagi nigiri! Every time I go, I HAVE to end my meal with ordering fresh sesame balls. Overall, Fuji Sushi is a great, reliable sushi restaurant to bring your friends and family to! I used to come here when I was younger and before AYCE sushi was more common in Sacramento. I think this wouldn't be my first choice especially since all their sushi is out on a row or already prepared for people to grab. While this may be convenient and faster, it may mean the sushi becomes warm over time. If you would like a better AYCE sushi place in terms of quality, I would definitely look at other options and spend the extra $10/person. Service isn't the greatest as they get really busy and there's only one person grabbing orders for appetizers or drinks. The sushi is all grab or request the chef for it. Sashimi is precut and placed in a fridge for them to hand to you. It's a smaller place but you could definitely host for a graduation party. Again, we are starting to gear more towards this type of style for eating sushi as you can have smaller portions instead of getting a whole complete role And possibly having a chance of not liking the whole role and it gives the opportunity to try out different types of roles. There were also side dishes, like edamame and seaweed salad with a couple of plates that sent it around being desserts and or fruits like oranges. Nothing here is bad and most of it is genuinely good. It is not the most elevated sushi experience you will ever have but for the price and the variety it checks all the boxes. The chefs and staff are friendly and accommodating and if they have something available they will make it for you no hesitation no hidden pricing and no attitude. There were a ton of great rolls and you had a huge section of hot foods too, like chow fun, chicken teriyaki, soups, etc. It was great. My brother and his friends used to brag about polishing off 15-20 plates of sushi. We decided to check it out this past Monday. It's located in the Wal-Mart shopping center on Elk Grove Blvd. We reminisced about the days when people would be standing in line around the building waiting to get in. During Monday lunch, there were plenty of tables. Menu was short. Appetizers included miso soup, fried bananas, gyoza and a few other items that I can't remember. You could pick plates off the floating boats or order some off the menu. My brother and mom complained that all the rolls seemed very similar---full of imitation crab. There was no variety like there used to be. They used to have inari, tamago, and all sorts of fun varieties. Not anymore. The miso soup was awful and tasted like maybe someone was trying to save money and purchased subpar miso soup packets. My brother ordered hot tea so I followed suit (honestly to save my mom from lecturing me about how bad it is to drink ice water). Didn't realize they'd be charging us about $3 each for hot tea. My dad is usually a really positive person but he also said that it was the worst sushi and meal. It's one thing if it's bad sushi but inexpensive. We felt like $25 a person for what we got was too spendy. My brother felt like the owners must just be in it for the money now, and no longer care about food quality. We theorized that maybe Covid caused the business to change. Or maybe there's been an ownership change since we last went. A few changes include the following: They no longer have the table of food towards the left of the entrance doors, no more soft serve ice cream, you order sushi/sashimi at the middle section of the sushi bar (not the sides), and appetizers/sides are ordered with the person who seats you. Quality of sashimi is just average, but of course that's what you'd expect at a buffet. Rolls are ok, nothing outstanding. I tried some hand rolls, but wouldn't recommend them. The nori (seaweed) is incredibly thick because they double layer it, making it very difficult to eat/chew. I tend to stick with soft shell crab and sashimi. I also like to get an order of hamachi kama. Overall, it's a good choice when you feel like overfilling yourself on a bunch of fish and fried food.
