Got six dishes from Journey to the Dumpling last night. Our two must have dishes are beef roll and mushrooms baos. The beef roll is my absolute favorite. The thinly sliced beef that's slowly shimmered in the well blended and fragrance Chinese spices is wrapped with crunchy thinly sliced cucumbers, red onions, scallions and cilantro by a wrap, that's both soft and crispy, in a roll. Crispy, tender, crunchy, refreshing, sweet and savory dish made me experienced the full sensory experience: sight, smell, taste, touch, and hearing. The mushroom baos are very flavorful because we're enjoying the umami flavor from the mixtures of chopped oyster, white and shiitake mushrooms and onions. The baos are made to look like mushroom tops and the doughs are slightly on the sweet side. It enticed our appetite and enjoyment. Honey walnut shrimp tasted silkily delicious. Shrimp dumplings with pork and mushrooms, chow mein with steamed tofu and Vegan Singapore noodles were good too. I like the curry-flavored rice noodles used in the Singapore noodles a bit more because the curry takes the noodles to another levels. We enjoyed all our dishes.
My BESTIE and I popped in here before our big event tonight! Imagine walking in here wearing all white, lmao!!! We decided to come to this location instead of downtown because parking is much easier here, although it does get packed. We walked in and were sat right away at a table. The tables are very close to each other. Not just my opinion, but I also overheard the table behind me day it... who's kids just happened to be sitting behind me and kept bumping their chair my chair. No biggie, though. I totally didn't mind. When our server came to our table, we were ready to order. We started with a cucumber salad to share, 2 orders of the pork dumplings(1 for each of us), and we each ordered a New Glory Gummy Worms (a hazy beer.) The beer was served from a 16 ounce can and we were brought frozen 12 ounce glasses which I thought was a nice touch. While waiting for our food to arrive, we were laughing at ourselves as we were trying to make a barrier against our clothes with napkins since we were wearing white... and we all know what happens when you wear white! We also noticed that we arrived just in time (about 4:30) because next thing you know, there was a line at the door. The cucumber salad arrived first. It has smashed Persian cucumbers with a citrus chili vinaigrette, garnished with cilantro and sesame seeds. It was so refreshing! I love the crunchy texture! Then, when our pork dumplings arrived, we decided we wanted chicken chowmein and the peking spare ribs. This chicken chowmein was so good, it tasted like it had a char flavor to it. The peking spare ribs were soooo tender! They were coated in a glossy, tangy, sweet red sauce. Perfect tenderness!!! Next thing you know, there was no way we were going to get to our 2nd order of dumplings, lmao! As we were close to finishing, we decided we wanted to take home our food and ordered one more set of dumplings and split the rest of the food between us. My BESTIE wanted a split bill and even they forgot to split it, she brought it to our servers attention... and she reminded him that we were each buying a jar of their chili oil... and this is where it got a little weird... After he dropped off the split bill, he walked over to the kitchen and said something to a fellow coworker and nodded towards us... and then she looked over at us. It felt awkward after we were having such a good time. I'm not sure if splitting the bill was the issue, or maybe it was the amount of boxes we needed since we were splitting all the food, but it left us feeling uncomfortable. Service was great up until that point. The food was delicious! ... maybe I'll start bringing my own Tupperware, lol.
We've been here a few times before and after moving to Elk Grove and it was good overall. The parking lot had enough spaces and this restaurant can be crowded at times. The waitresses we had for all of our visits were nice and helpful. The place was clean and had bright lighting. We've ordered the Chicken & Cilantro Xiao Long Bao, Pork Xiao Long Bao, Shrimp, Pork, & Mushroom Dumpling, Beef Noodle Soup, Green Beans (garlic as well as black bean), Chicken Fried Rice, Steak Fried Rice, Wonton in Chili Oil, Chicken Chow Mein, Eggplant without the flounder, Potstickers, and Honey Walnut Shrimp. In my opinion, the Pork Xiao Long Bao was the better of the two we tried and I would order that again. The Green Beans with garlic was good, the Beef Noodle Soup was not bad, the Chicken Fried Rice and Steak Fried Rice were good especially with that charred tasted, and the Honey Walnut Shrimp was pretty good. Everything else I listed was okay and I would try something else on the menu. There's a lot of choices on the menu and we will be back to try everything else that sounds good. The food is good overall and worth checking out if you want some Chinese food.
So good we had to go back for more! Our favorite place for Taiwanese food was in Reno, NV until more recently we found one closer but not in a very good area, so we kept our eyes out. We found this one while in the area doing some shopping and now we're hooked! Hot and fresh! The chili sauce is so good that they sell it by the pint and it goes with enticing but the veggie dumplings which they have vinegar for. Everything we've tried to far is so good! The staff is all nice, and it's always busy inside. Not boring at all.
I'm giving this place 4 stars overall. Most of the food was really good, but the beef buns were disappointing. The dumplings tasted fresh, and the green beans were solid--comparable to other Chinese restaurants. However, the beef buns were not what I expected at all. The menu photo shows soft bao buns with what looks like BBQ-style filling, but what came out was more like dense, compressed meat similar to soup dumpling filling. It didn't match the description or the picture, which was a letdown. Because of that, I had to drop a star. On the positive side, our waiter was attentive and prompt, which made the experience better. One thing to note--the bathroom could use more frequent cleaning. It seemed like it might only get attention at closing. Overall, still a good spot, just hope they improve the beef buns and upkeep.
This is one of my favorite Asian restaurants in the area. It tastes like home - this very is similar to how my family cooks. The restaurant is always clean, well lit, and organized. The staff are friendly, efficient, and check on you just enough to make you feel welcome and helped. (But not overly so, where you have a mouthful of food). I had the impossible dumplings, mixed veggies, and Vietnamese coffee (requested less sweet). All were delicious and had perfectly balanced seasonings. This place is a 10/10. I also think it's really cool how you can get the chili oil to go. Sounds like a good gift idea too!

Our server is very helpful and attentive, making sure we're taken care of each time. The host is friendly too. It's usually pretty busy, so make sure you book on Yelp in advance if you're coming here mostly on the weekends. We arrived on Sunday, and the wait around lunchtime was reasonable. Happy journey!
Visited Journey to the Dumpling after getting back from a business trip. This Elk Grove spot is at a great location in a shopping plaza with plenty of parking. Arrived in the afternoon a bit early before their 4pm opening and I actually tried to open the door while it was locked to go in Lol The staff inside were probably trippin' thinking "wtf is this dude doing trying to break in, must be hungry" LMAO Well yea I was hella hungry as I haven't ate all day! Not a big crowd yet so plenty of clean, open tables. Stainless steel cup was cool too, wish more places have it. Ordering was easy and quick. Ordered beef chow fun with black bean sauce, salt and pepper wings, and har gow. They were all delicious! Got the sweet tarts for dessert and it was so good. Ordered hot green tea also but it was very bland and wasn't anything to rave about. I've also been once to the downtown Sacramento location last year during the Christmas holiday for my birthday with a date (we had our falling out soon a few days after and she hates me now yelp shhh) :( Lol It was a nice, positive experience at both locations. The downtown Sac visit was more memorable for obvious reasons Lol The staff is courteous and efficient. Will visit again soon.
I love coming here. We eat here a lot and they are the best Chinese place in Elk Grove. They are getting so big now. They opened their place downtown I think 2 years now and now they are getting one in Folsom to. This one is in a large strip mall where Target is located. Lots of parking but it's always packed here since all the food is on this end. Still found a good spot. The place had a lot of people eating already even just around 5PM. Greeted by the front girl and seated right away . No reservations here, I think. It's a good size place but they get pretty full soon. I got the wonton without noodles which is my favorite and I almost always get it when I am here. Got the regular chow mien this time the Hong Long style wasn't that good last time . Chicken this time . I liked it but my wife doesn't eat the meat in the chow mien when we get it no matter what protein we add. She just likes the noodles. Felt like shrimp so we got the walnut shrimp and it was fabulous and fresh. Loved it. The wife wanted the spicy green beans. She likes the flavor of it even though both of us don't do spice that much. It was very flavorful and yummy. We will be back again since we really enjoy this place and you can count on the consistency of their cooking.
My family and I eat here frequently and it's always a fantastic experience. The food is consistently delicious and the service is great, making it one of our favorite regular spots. We have several "must-order" items that we highly recommend: Signature Seafood & Meat: The salt and pepper ribs and salt and pepper flounder are top-tier and always cooked to perfection. Family Favorites: You can't go wrong with the honey walnut prawns, chow fun, or fried rice. Vegetables & Dumplings: Their green beans are a great side, and the dumplings are always a highlight of the meal. The restaurant is also in a perfect location, surrounded by great shopping and other food options, which makes it very convenient for a day out.
I came here a couple of times with friends and the food was delicious each time. Each time coming the restaurant was packed, once we were sat within ten minutes, and another we had a longer wait time. The inside of the restaurant is spacious with lots of tables and was clean. Once we were sat, we scanned over the vast menu keeping an eye out for the popular items. The staff were nice and friendly and helped answer questions we had. We ordered various items to share around the table. Everything we ordered was delicious. We were left satisfied and keeping this place as a "must". I haven't been in a while and I'll definitely have to make time to come back and try som new items.
Popped in on a random Tuesday evening to try this place out. Ordered salt and pepper calamari, chicken chow mien, chicken fried rice, and chicken soup dumplings. Food came out fresh and fast. Sauces provided for all the dishes. Place was fairly full, more tables occupied than empty. Service was great, checked in on several times, super friendly. $72ish was our total before tip. The ambiance was casual, welcoming with an open feel. I would go again.
Mmmm I'd come here again and again. Great flavorful food. Fast service and friendly. It was packed but not too noisy which I liked. The chicken garlic noodles wereeee soooo gooood. heavy on carbs so come on cheat day but worth the extra time at the gym. I think it all tasted better with some wine too lol read more

This place has the best veggie dumplings I've had. I honestly come here just for these! On occasion, the food tends to be salty, but it's still good. Portions are big; enough to share. I also love the salt and pepper fish and garlic noodles. read more

I very much enjoyed my time at Journey to The Dumpling. Our server, Randy, was extremely polite and did an excellent job the entire time we were there. We ordered a variety of dishes and they were all very flavorful. The portions were generous. The Sichuan green beans were the highlight of my meal. I would buy whatever sauce they use to make them if it was bottled. The peking spare rib was the perfect amount of sweetness and every piece was coated thoroughly. The cucumber salad was crisp and refreshing. The xiao long boa had a delicious broth and the sauces Randy brought out made them even better. There was tons of seating. I also have to mention that the music they were playing was so good. It was a great mix of a lot of songs that are popular now and ones I personally have on my playlist. Overall I left extremely satisfied and honestly a little sad I didn't have more space in my stomach to try more things. read more
So. . .I let my middle child pick our dinner spot for tonight. She chose great. This was our first time here and I was concerned about the prices because they didn't look like full meals. Boy was I wrong. The portion sizes were great. We ended up taking our food home because it was so much. Definitely good pricing. We ordered the pork chop fried rice, steak & fried rice, steak and potatoes, soup dumplings and French fries. We were are very pleased with our dishes. The employees were very nice and the food came pretty quickly. Great customer service. The atmosphere was family friendly and that was perfect for our family. I recommend this restaurant for a family outing or if you're with a group because the portions are shareable which I absolutely love when I go out to eat. We will definitely be back. Wow I haven't been back in 2 years and it was disappointing. I'm just glad the garlic noodles stayed the same. The bbq baked buns were the worst thing on the menu. We had sent them back because the meat tasted sour and the outside was soggy and cold. The server came back and said the manger said that's how it's supposed to taste. He also said that they make a whole batch in the morning and it stays under a heat lamp for the whole day. But Atleast now we know why it's cold and soggy. The pan fried dumpling are not what it used to be. How is something that is in soup that dry ? The crust at the bottom was plastic feel to it. Save your money on these items I rather drive 40 min and go to yang kee in roseville. read more

My friends and I ordered to-go from this restaurant. On the weekend, there were quite a few people eating inside the restaurant and also waiting for to-go orders. Beef Roll: This was crispy on the outside with savory, tender beef on the inside, making for a filling roll but slightly too dense for my taste Chow Mein: The chow mein had good flavor and was nicely cooked without being overly cooked. The portion sizes were decent for the price and the food still tasted fresh once we were home! I would recommend this place for classic Chinese comfort dishes in the Elk Grove area. read more

Perhaps the best Xhineas food imo. There are not many Chinese restaurants in Elk Grove. We ordered the beef Hong Kong-style chow mein, garlic green beans, meat and potatoes, and spicy wonton. There were four in our party and plenty of leftovers. Portions are a good size. You get your money's worth. The only dish I won't recommend from our order is the meat and potatoes. The meat was not tender at all, so it was tough to eat. The staff was very friendly. Although the restaurant is about 10 years old, it displayed plenty of wear and tear. Our booth seats were very uncomfortable and dipped when you shifted. The floor was slippery, and the restaurant had a general impression of being old. read more
Journey to the Dumpling is one of the best dumpling restaurants. It always seems to be busy so be prepared to wait if not visiting during an off hour. The dumplings always come out hot, fresh, and well made. The beef noodle soup was delicious with good flavor and the noodles tasted fresh. Even the chili oil is delicious as it has a smoky accent and is not too spicy. Service was good as the employees were friendly. read more

We were seated promptly when we arrived. The server answered our questions and was specific when asking about the spice level of our dishes. I liked how she repeated our order to make sure she got every dish. Every dish was delicious. The siu mai was my absolute favorite. Steaming hot and the pork and shrimp combo was delightful. The chow fun might've been too soggy for me but I did ask for the gravy. I'd still eat it again. My mom enjoyed the fried prawns and the honey walnut shrimp. Overall I'd recommend this place. The server gave me extra chili oil to go. read more
This place is amazing! We were in line for around an hour and joined on the yelp waitlist. It was super busy on a sunday night. There is a decent amount of seating and the service was great! The food also came out super fast which I enjoyed because I was super hungry. The food here is very reasonably priced and my favorite was def the garlic noodle with beef and the wonton in chili oil! It was so delicious and we had left overs after! read more
I visited Journey to try their chicken fried rice, honey walnut shrimp, steamed pork and chive dumplings, and Har Gow. I was worried that as we came closer to the time they closed, that the quality or taste wouldn't be as great, but I was pleasantly corrected because not only was our service very friendly and efficient, but each dish came out steaming and fresh. My favorite dish was their Steamed Pork & Chive dumplings because the filling is so flavorful and tender and they are cooked to perfection. I had never had Har Gow before and found the texture to not be my favorite, but thought the shrimp & asparagus filling were very tasty! I been eyeing this restaurant for the longest so my husband decided we should try it out. The restaurant was clean and the service was super professional plus fast. Our server was Abdul and his suggestions were awesome. The food were flavorful and delicious. It might be salty for some people but we liked it. The soup dumplings are their signature dish and hands down the best and I think next time we come that's all we'll order. The egg tart was so warm and fresh. Party of 8 on a Saturday, early dinner BUT we were lucky, because in n hour or so, when we were seated, it got Busy & for us, we were seated right away Lots of parking, because it's located in a huge shopping plaza, around lots of other restaurants & stores. They were friendly from the time you walked into the restaurant, got seated, placed your order & while enjoying the yummy dishes, they were on it, making sure our waters stayed filled & if we needed to order any other items. We checked in with host upon arrival. Seated after short wait. Ordered usual plus steak and potatoes, chicken wings, and zucchini dish. Service was excellent today. We had Arri for our service. Visiting this place again after their new restaurant opening and I'm kind of disappointed. Their green bean was a bit too salty for my liking, they threw it into a wok when it was hot enough so they're still kinda raw. I'm used to the cracked skin but still crunchy. Salted egg shrimp was a complete miss. I would've expected it to be a traditional dish you would find at a Chinese restaurant but the combo just didn't make sense. On top of that, there was no salted egg flavor, just complete grease and chili flakes. Broccoli was a weird combo but a great was to get your fiber in. Fujian fried rice was great! The star of the show was the salt & pepper tofu. Perfect crispy. It was nice and hot. Everyone comes for the soup dumpling and I love it! Best XLB in Sac. I like to eat it when it's piping hot. The service was great. Green beans always take forever to come out so be prepared for that. Great service! Most of the food is Mid except my favorite is the steak and potatoes and surprisingly, the fried lobster/shrimp ball. The pork Xlb and chili oil wonton are cooked really well; I really like chili oil and am grateful for how much they give us. I don't think it's spicy or numbing, but it.has good flavor. A bit of mixed bag. The good dishes were really good, and the others were quite mediocre. We had 6 dishes for lunch on a sunday. The great: xiaolongbao, and wonton in chilly oil The good: green onion pancake and garlic noodles The mediocre: pan fried pork bun (very appealing appearance, but the texture is stiff with flavors on the blander side) and potstickers (the fillings had very little flavors. Bland and relied heavily on dipping sauce). The service was attentive and fast. Give it 4 stars since we really liked several of its dishes. read more
Food and service is always great. This has been one of our go to spots in Elk Grove for years. It's always super busy on the weekends, but it's definitely worth the wait. If you are ever in the area, you should stop by and get something to eat. I highly recommend their Fujian Fried Rice. read more

Actually I don't know but I think it would be best to avoid it. Peanut oil or peanut products are present in much of Asian cooking.
