Hainan Chicken rice plate served with ginger sauce and sweet soy sauce.
    Allen Y.

Happened to be in Elk Grove yesterday and stumbled upon this small mom-and-pop shop for a quick bite. My wife had the beef noodle soup, which was good. The broth is on the lighter side -- perfect as a hangover cure -- but she's more used to the richer, bolder styles of beef noodle soup. Just a heads-up if that's your preference too! I had the Hainan chicken rice plate. The chicken was perfectly cooked and served cold, with just a slight pink hue near the bone (not undercooked). The rice was seasoned beautifully -- I'd honestly come back just for this dish alone. They also served us complimentary small bowls of soup, which was a nice touch and much appreciated. The server was very kind and attentive. The interior has been recently renovated, and I really liked their new chairs and the elegant tables -- it gives the place a surprisingly fancy feel. I would definitely come back in the near future to try their other items.

I'm in between a 3.5 and 4 star because I want to try some of their other dishes to get a feel of their consistency. It's a comfortable sit-down restaurant that reminds me of home a little bit. I came by myself and was seated quickly. Service was great! It was mainly two people running the store front but they were both friendly and efficient with their work. I tried their House Special Noodles and their pork ear and tripe dish. The pork ear could have been a little softer and more seasoned but the beef tripe was on the saltier and juicier side so they balanced each other out. The house noodles are a big portion! Seasoned on the lighter end but I enjoyed the sauce. I didn't get to try the Hainan chicken this time but will have to try it next time!

I was a bit skeptical about coming here since the reviews are a mix of old and new management but our experience was very very positive and delicious! My gf and I were looking for good wonton soup and I managed to find this spot. And we agreed that this was the best wonton soup we've had! The broth was pork-based and very rich in flavor compared to other soups we've tried. It came with about 10 wontons and bok choy. We also ordered cream cheese rangoons and Haian chicken rice plate. Our server gave us a small bowl of egg drop soup and that was very tasty. Came small bits of tofu, corn, and a small price of chicken. The rangoons were standard but the wonton wrap was not as crunchy as I hoped. Still a solid appetizer. Last was the Hainan chicken rice plate. From other places, the chicken is usually prepared hot but served here, it was cold. Not something I would have expected but still a welcoming one. It was served with ginger and scallion sauce & sweet soy sauce. It also had bok choy and Hainan rice. A really good plate all around. The chicken flavor wasn't overwhelming and the rice was seasoned well. Overall, a perfect dining experience

The food was amazing. Came out fast and hot. The chicken was cold because it's supposed to be cold. But overall I would recommend. The chili oil is a MUST. My husband put it on everything he ate cause the enjoyed the flavor. He said it balanced out the flavors. I prefer it without, but if you like little spicy, yes try it! The restaurant was well lit and the service was great. Our server was attentive and she was super nice. Will return to try other food!

3.5 stars. New owners, new menu. They really should just be called something else but whatevs moving on .. They redecorated everything so all the tables/chairs/plates/etc are all nice and new. You also get table service now vs ordering at the counter. The service is very good! Food is still a little inconsistent for me, probably because they are still working out their kinks. One time it was not salty enough; another time they overcompensated and it was too salty lol. *Beef Chow Fun - 3/5, needs more "wok hay" *String beans - have been inconsistent but overall tastes fine *Chicken chow Mein - Flavor was fine but could use a little more veggies *Salt and pepper spare ribs - overly breaded but flavor was fine HK style lemon tea could use a little more syrup and ice :D

The restaurant was clean. I loved how crunchy the honey walnut shrimp was. The shrimp were huge compared to what I've had at other places. The salt and pepper pork chop was super flavorful and crunchy. The fried rice was delicious too.

Giving this place a 5 stars because although there was only 1 waitress, she was attentive and always asking our table of 8 if we needed anything. A lot of the dishes ordered were Hainan chicken which I tied and did like. Stir fry green beans was as expected and just right in flavor. Note: you have to order ahead if you want duck otherwise it won't be available so my ordered chicken and that was crispy and good. I got house noodles and it was delicious. For mine, I would have liked less oil. For most, it's probably just right amount of oil. Our table had 2 kids and they were understanding which I appreciated.

Good portion sizes with good prices. The location is quiet and clean. I accidentally misread the opening time and arrived a couple minutes before the official opening time, but the staff let us in. The serving of BBQ pork that I received was on the leaner side and a bit drier, but paired with the duck sauce it was perfect. A tend to prefer a leaner cut of meat because it is easier to eat. They give you a free soup with your meal. It's a nice lunch spot to come back to. At the time of this review, this location is under new management.

Went here for lunch with my family. We ordered the duck noodle soup, beef stew noodle soup, chow fun, and a BBQ pork rice plate. Everything tasted alright, but those who ate the noodle soups experienced upset stomach, nausea, and diarrhea. We really wanted to like this place because customer service was nice, but after fighting for our lives from food poisoning, we are a lil hesitant to return. Hopefully, they improve on food safety.

Absolutely amazing soup! Rich, deep broth with the perfect balance of spice, tender meat, fresh herbs, and perfectly cooked noodles. Every bite is comforting and full of flavor. You can really taste the care and quality in this dish. One of the best soups I've had -- highly recommend!

Ordered the Hainan Chicken. Food came out pretty fast. Portion was decent. Rice and chicken were good. The soup tasted weird to me. They have good selections on their menu. They offer rice, noodles, appetizers, etc. Restaurant and restroom were clean enough. Service was quick.

New owners and new menu! Good food, great service. A casual family lunch with kids and elderly, table of 12. We ordered a range of different dishes, some duplicates, very tasty & kids-friendly. Here's a list of the foods we tried: Roast duck well seasoned, tasty. Hainan chicken rice combo was ok, BBQ pork w/ rice (kids loved it), House special noodles (imo needed more sauce), Fried rice w/ BBQ pork great sharing portion, good, Dry braised green beans were delicious! Lemon iced tea was refreshing, Both Salt & pepper chicken cartilages & Chicken wings very tasty, just a bit salty but everyone still loved it. Ma Po tofu was ok, Beef chow fun was ok, Beef stew noodles were delicious! Chicken katsu w/ rice was good too. Overall was great. We'll be back when around the area.

So I'm planning my next trip here this week so I can enjoy the amazing cucumber salad (so fresh, crunchy and garlicky), their pepper beef clay pot (sizzling rice at the bottom for the win and big portions), their spicy tofu (umm what?!? So crispy) and their awesome skewers (the pork belly is my favorite). The space is small, so if you're planning on dining in during peak times, you may want a back up or take it to go as they only have a handful of tables inside and a few tables outside. There is parking but it is shared with other business so can get busy. The service is wonderful! The hostess/waitress was very friendly and everything came out relatively quick. The clay pot does take some time (they need to cook up the rice to get that awesome crunchy bottom) so place your order for that first, and then look at the appetizers and skewers as they come out fast. This was my first trip but will not be my last to Da Fei Ge!

It was nice enough that I tried to come here on a weekend night and it was packed full of families which is great but probably where I should have thought about it more. We went up to the counter and were told to wait a few minutes. I saw that a large table was clearing up so I didn't mind waiting. During this time a group came up behind us and I thought they were after us. One of the server waved in our general direction after cleaning up and splitting the table, so I thought they were gesturing to us since it has already been 10 minutes of waiting. Wrong, it was to the group behind us. Maybe it was communicated in mandarin that they had a reservation, I'm not sure. I waited for the next empty table, which was also taken by yet another group that magically appeared behind us as if they knew they were in line. I decided to leave after this. My issue is that I looked and talked to the staff multiple times and at no point, did they indicate there was a waitlist, nor did they take my name, or anything about people in front of us. It was really frustrating because being told it would be a few minutes set the wrong expectation. This is not the only place to get skewers so if you're left confused where you are in line, just come another weekday, speak mandarin, or go somewhere else like I did

My husband and I lived in the Bay Area for a while before moving to Davis for school, so our standards are pretty high. Unfortunately this is not going to be my new go to.
