For me it is not comparable to other bbq place. The soy sauce marinated items didn't look appetizing enough to purchase. They didn't have the tofu. The bbq pork is pretty good. They also offer soy sauce chicken, char siu, and goose. We've been here a couple times and definitely plan on coming back. Pros: plenty of parking, it's right next to Quan nem. I finally got the opportunity to come to Laka. This place is very small and definitely more of an in-and-out type of spot. When we went, we were literally shoulder-to-shoulder with other customers. The workers also seemed a little scrambled and overwhelmed. The meats are also chopped and weighed right in front of you. We ordered the following: Tea Chicken: 6/10 - I didn't really care for the texture or flavor. Roasted Duck: 7/10 - Very greasy and oily. Crispy Pork: 7/10 - I was hoping it would be a little crispier. BBQ Pork: 7/10 - A little dry. One thing I was disappointed by was that the food was already room temperature/cold by the time I got home. I don't live very far away, so I was surprised that everything was that cold. Laka BBQ is new in Elk Grove, opening a month ago, in the Walmart lot on Elk Grove Blvd and Hwy 99. I didn't know it was there and noticed roast duck hanging in the window. This restaurant, which appears to only have a small seating area, comfortably for two, is more like a to go place, selling specialty foods like roast duck, BBQ pork belly, roast pork and chicken feet. They also have rice plates , so I decided to give it a try the 2-item rice plate with the roast pork and BBQ pork belly. The meat was pretty fresh, but cut very small, and most only two of the five pieces of duck was wider than 1/2 inch thick. Yes, the plate is arranged very carefully to appear like it was quite a bit, compared to other places serving duck, etc. It also came with a side of cabbage with carrot in a vinegar marinade that was pretty good, but it didn't really go with the duck and rice, and the container wasn't divided, so the dressing made the rice tangy. My plate was $18.48. It may not be my first choice when craving duck, but the fact that it's the only restaurant of this type that I've found in Elk Grove, I'm sure I'll order some of the other meats when preparing a meal for the holidays at home, because I can purchase by weight and cut the pieces to my preference. read more

If you actually decide to eat there, you'll feel completely out of place. ​Service on a Saturday afternoon was a disaster, despite a team of three working behind the counter: a cashier, a BBQ cutter, and an older helper around 50 years old. Organization is non-existent, and the staff lacks basic customer service etiquette. ​I ordered four different items to try out the menu: a whole roast duck, a Hainanese chicken rice, 0.76 pounds of roast pork, and 0.24 pounds of BBQ pork. Thankfully, I changed my mind at the last second and decided to eat inside, which is the only reason I caught their major packing mistake: they had only packed half a roast duck instead of the whole one I paid for. ​Things went from bad to worse when I asked for basic dining essentials--chopsticks, napkins, and a small container for the ginger scallion oil on side that is supposed to automatically accompany the Hainanese chicken rice. The older helper actually had the audacity to demand an extra dollar just to put the sauce in a small container. I spent about $50, but since I needed to take it on a flight, I asked for a bag and then two larger to-go boxes because the aluminum tray was difficult to carry without spilling. I got the 3 item combo plate for $19.99 that included baby bok choy, rice, half a hard boiled egg and a canned soda or bottled water. I wanted to try the roasted duck and BBQ pork, but unfortunately, the roasted duck was sold out and the next batch of roasted duck would take about 40 minutes. I decided to go with a whole Tea King chicken and the BBQ pork instead and waited about 15 mins. They currently have a special on their Tea King chicken for $19.99 throughout the month of August. My total came out to a little over $40, so I thought it was a pretty good deal. The chicken had great flavor. It was not quite as good as Tealicious, but definitely better than Yang Kee. The BBQ pork was juicy and flavorful as well. My girls thoroughly enjoyed both meats with a side of rice and veggies. What can I say? They open at 10am. I show up around 10:45am and they ran out of duck. This is a BBQ restaurant. How do you run out of duck less than an hour after opening? The cashier lady told me it "maybe" be a 40 minute wait. I am not going to wait around for "maybe" 40 minutes to get a duck! Very disappointed with the customer service here. I came in to order a whole roasted duck and specifically asked them to split it into two boxes. I paid an extra $1 for this. I was told 15+ minutes, but waited about 25 minutes, which was not a problem. Three things really bothered me: * Priority treatment: Two women were told they would have to wait 40 minutes for chicken. They were leaving when they recognized the older man cutting the meat. He told them to come back in 10 minutes. Sure enough, they came back and received their chicken before even paying, while other customers who had already paid were still waiting. When I questioned this, the short-haired employee admitted they shouldn't have given them priority. The cashier, however, said they didn't know the women hadn't lined up, which didn't make sense to me since they received their food before paying. * Numbers called out of order: My number was 57, but they called 58 first even though that customer came after me. Their explanation was that the lunch boxes were easier to prepare, which made no sense. * My order was wrong: After waiting, they didn't split my duck into two boxes as I had requested and paid extra for. They offered to refund the $1, but that wasn't the point--I needed the order split into two boxes. What bothered me most was how they handled their mistakes. Instead of simply acknowledging what happened, they gave excuses like not knowing the women hadn't lined up and saying another order was easier to prepare. They never apologized or took responsibility. Mistakes happen, but trying to justify them instead of being honest and taking responsibility made the experience feel very unprofessional and unfair.
