The dim sum here is average, it is not the best but isn't bad. The sui mai had lots of meat and were large. The har gow wrappers were relatively thin with a slight chewy texture which met my basic expectations. Service was good as the workers were friendly and cleared dishes promptly. The interior felt over crowded with too many chairs and tables for the amount of space. People who require additional room to move may feel uncomfortable here.

Their lunch specials are a good price for a big portion. Comes with soup, choice of entree, pork fried rice or steamed rice, and an egg roll. The fried rice lacked some flavor, but entrees were fresh and tasty, and the egg roll was better than a lot of other Chinese restaurants' lunch plates. They also serve dim sum that we didn't try. The general chicken and kung pao beef were good, but my favorites were the ginger & scallion beef and sweet & sour chicken. Friendly and very quick service. We came on a Friday around 2pm for a late lunch. There were a few other customers, but we got our soup pretty much right away and our food shortly after that. Nice and clean interior.

I stopped by Joy City to share a light dinner tonight. We both wanted a traditional Chinese new Year vegetarian dish called Jai, and asked the server for it. We also wanted an order of rice and was asking for a fish dish, and we ended up with the salted fish fried rice. The Jai wasn't quite what we wanted, because it didn't have the ingredients that comes with the traditional dish, but it didn't have the fried tofu, and the broccoli and baby Bok Choy was very fresh. We did not leave very happy but we didn't need much to fill us up. The server didn't appear to pay the best attention on getting the order right, but getting an order in seem to be the main goal, and trying to explain to another server didn't seem to help. This rest serves very good food though, so I hope the next time, I'll have better luck with my order.

Lunch was excellent! We combined it with Dim Sum and from the regular menu, too! Two of our friends had never been there so it was a treat! Once we ordered, the food came out fast! We ordered Bo Lai tea and my husband wanted them to try Chrysanthemum tea, too! The staff was accommodating and we had both teas for them to try! We ordered Tomato beef chow mein, salt and pepper fish, salt and pepper wings and a few dim sum dishes, too!

I think I've just found my new favorite dim sum restaurant, this place is so good. My favorite dish was their salted pumpkin (you can add shrimp too). This isn't your dim sum place where people are rolling around the dim sum carts, instead they give you a menu and you just write down the quantity of items you want so I'm assuming everything is made to order. I really enjoyed the fried shrimp rolls and chicken feet. I would skip the egg tart next time, very mid. Service was efficient and they refilled out tea and waters as needed. It's a cute and cozy hidden gem.

Decent Dim sum / Chinese food restaurant Opens at 11am Available on door dash for delivery Extensive menu - but only dined in for dim Sum so far You mark the sheet with what you want to order including the quantity They don't come around with the carts Decently fast service to the table They cut the large pieces in half for us to share more easily among the group Drank the oolong chrysanthemum tea They had 3 TVs turns on. Not a super big restaurant but number of tables seem to be sufficient Sunday around 1130am Items I tried - not all in pictures Siu Mai Shrimp and chives dumpling Har gao shrimp Dumpling Pork bbq bun Chicken feet Soup dumplings (Xiao Long Bao) Beef tripe Custard bun Will update review and try again.

Overall food was good and service was attentive and polite. Requests were taken care of right away. We ordered hella food for 4 of us. Spent $150 but kept me full for most of the day, and had lots of leftovers. Shu mai was my favorite, along with the golden shrimp roll and the shrimp and chive dumplings. The fried rice and Chinese broccoli were flavorful and cooked to perfection. I didn't care for the sizzling rice soup (no sizzle), salt & pepper calamari was oily, and the soy sauce chow mein was dry and bland. You will definitely find something you like that will fill your tummy with joy!

The best spot for fresh hot varieties of dim sum in the Sac/Elk Grove area! Oh love their fried shrimp & pumpkin with egg yolk! Quick and attentive customer service ! I do hope one day they will offer the fried taro pork ball!

Joy City in Elk Grove is a solid spot for dim sum! Swing by with some friends.. fresh, flavorful, and consistently well-made. The menu has a great variety, service is quick, and it's perfect for both casual meals and family-style dining. Definitely one of the better dim sum options in EG. Thanks! Anthonyxibarrax

One of my favorite Chinese dish is beef pan fried noodle (Hong Kong style). My boyfriend took me here since I have not tried their version. We came on a weeknight so they were not busy. We decided on 3 dishes. Beef pan fried noodle, tofu with mixed vegetables and salt & pepper pork chop. Food came out pretty quickly. The noodle was crispy. I felt the dish needed a tiny bit more flavor. Pork chop was cooked perfectly. Tofu with veggies was a healthy option. Service was good overall but did lack towards the end of our meal.

I haven't found more than one place in Elk Grove that I actually enjoy and tend to stick to Sac for Chinese food. I've been to Joy City a couple of times. All the dishes were oily and greasy, which is to be expected, but it seemed to be even more so than what I'm used to. Portions are good. All in all it's not bad, but also nothing noteworthy.

Food- generous portioned and is tasty. Service - great service. Attentive and welcoming. Ambiance - casual and comfortable. Great for individuals, small and large groups.

Where Nostalgia Meets Good Taste Old-School Charm, Steaming Hot Porridge, and Surprisingly Classy Vibes-A Dim Sum Win First time here and pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere is calm, intimate, and not as hectic as most dim sum spots. The old-school interior gave me a wave of nostalgia, and the soft classical instrumental music added just the right touch to the ambiance-simple, elegant, and comforting. This is Cantonese-style dim sum, and honestly, one of the better ones I've tried for the price. Service was attentive without being overbearing, and the food easily stood out on its own. They do charge for hot tea, so definitely drink it and get your money's worth. The Preserved Egg with Pork Porridge was the star for me-fresh, piping hot, and seasoned perfectly. Even after two bowls, it stayed warm. The server scoops your first bowl for you, which I appreciated, but fair warning: it's very hot. Simple, balanced, and comforting--the kind of dish that makes you slow down and enjoy the moment. The Golden Shrimp Rice Roll is another must-order-crispy in all the right places with great texture and a flavorful dipping sauce that ties it together. My friend ordered the Chicken Feet, and while I'm not a fan, the fact she finished the whole plate says enough. The Shrimp Dumplings were fine-fresh but a bit too glutinous for my liking-and the Siu Mai leaned a little salty compared to others. The Fried Lobster Roll was another standout: crisp, flavorful, and nicely paired with the sweet and sour sauce. The Egg Tart was the perfect ending-light, buttery, and baked fresh to order. Overall, this place feels family-oriented but still nice enough for a casual date, especially if you appreciate fast, attentive service and a calm, classic vibe.

They are always so very busy, so don't expect customer service there, just great food. Licious has the exact opposite, great service and okay food. We ordered the following: Szechuan green beans- cooked perfectly with a crunch still. Lacked flavor- not spicy. Fish and tofu clay pot- the fish tasted sweet, oddly. The fried tofu was perfect. Juicy and soft, Beef short ribs skillet- very fatty. You are paying for fat. Maybe it was a bad day. Tiger prawns with pumpkin- it is battered with salted egg, but it's not that salty. I wish it was saltier because I love salted egg. Battered and fried perfectly!!! The Tiger prawns are HUGE!!!!!! I've never eaten such big prawns in my life. The pumpkin was so soft and sweet with the perfect crunch from the salted egg batter. IT JUST NEEDED MORE SALT. Lots of pumpkin! Lobster- lacked flavor and was a very small lobster with not a lot of meat. Salt and pepper fried tofu for appetizer- yummy yummy. Perfect. Whole roasted duck- flavor was perfect, but the skin texture was stale. It wasn't like how it tastes at Tealicious. I don't know why the skin wasn't crunchy. Shrimp and egg chow fun- lacked flavor and too wet. Service was amazing for our two tables total of 18. They kept checking on us and even packed all of our food. There were two servers and only 3 other small tables with ours. The restaurant is quite small and is only for up to I believe 35 people on Theo occupant load signage. I would come back if I craved the Tiger prawns with pumpkin, but nothing else we tried. Maybe I'll try the fried rice next time and do an updated review.

There is plenty of space to dine-in as well. Their menu is huge - almost overwhelming - but they have a little bit of everything. I stopped in specifically for BBQ Pork steamed rice rolls, which can be tough to find at most places outside of a dim sum menu. The price was reasonable (I think $6.75) and it was a great portion. Very flavorful, tender, and a delicious sauce! We also got an order of steamed BBQ pork buns (3 total). Surprisingly, I don't think it was the same meat from the rice rolls but that's OK because it was almost shredded consistency with a good flavor. The bun is a bao-style bun, so less fluffy than my preferred steam bun type but perfectly steamed nonetheless. We ended with an order of sesame balls (3 piece). I was surprised at how much oil was in the to-go container, and a little disappointed that there wasn't more of the sesame coating, but they were so FRESH! I assumed the inside would be red bean but instead it was jelly cubes that reminded me of square boba jellies. Possibly pineapple flavored? The noodles we had ordered from here a month ago had very good flavor, but not a one note beef flavor. There was a lot of beef and chicken in the house chow mein, but zero shrimp means the cook either forgot or they didn't have them and thought it would be ok to add more beef.
