Maybe the 20th??) of our dear dear friend, Hawaiian Elite TERRY K. coming back to visit with us! THE SETUP Such an incredible restaurant with great seating to support an incredible array of Chinese dishes and beverages! I'm actually in agreement with my friend & fellow Yelper David V. who said, "This place is like a high-quality Panda Express. Is that a good thing? You decide!" And David is right! By that I enthusiastically interpret his opinion as Tea Garden being incredibly ACCESSIBLE to every palette of customer: from those who are just casual Chinese food eaters, to the far FAR more demanding Asian appetites of friends who have much more experience with the wide diversity of Chinese cuisine and know how to ask for it, focusing on seafood, chicken, beef, vegetables, noodes, chilis, spice! PARKING AND "Parking"! It's kind of wild, but I find this more and more to be the case with great ethnic cuisine establishments, that delicious restaurants such as this find themselves in a STRIP MALL. Hey, nothing wrong with that, either! Cheaper rent means cheaper prices on the restaurant food. It ALSO often means tons of free plaza parking as in this case. So much for the car parking, not about where you "park" yer butt! We had a crew of eight (8) and all of us came with the attitude of "Let's try as many dishes as we can!": the large round tables with the large lazy-susans were the best method to make that plan work. If you are only 2-4 people, regular seating at rectangular tables will work just find. THE FOOD! And as I indicated earlier, we had a plethora of dishes: * Delicious broth & veggie soup to start * Crispy Eggrolls with Sweet & Sour Sauce * Crispy Shrimp with Sweet Chili Sauce * Chinese Chicken Caesar Salad * Fried Rice with Chicken & Shrimp * Broccoli Beef * Chicken Tso Chicken....and.... ...I can't remember what else! There was a LOT, but it becomes a blur after all the chicken and beef and shrimp and eggrolls I was devouring! THE LOWDOWN Suffice it to say, if you come with friends and an appetite, you are going to be soooo satiated! And in addition, I lucked out since half our friends were from the Bay Area and they sent me home with a large (LARGE) share of the leftovers that lasted me the week after that weekend banquet! We've been going to Tea Garden for so long at this point they know us by name, which honestly says everything. This is easily our neighborhood go-to for Chinese food because the food is always fast, consistently good, and somehow still hits every single time. Our regular order is pretty much set in stone now. The barbecue pork chow mein is always a must, along with the salt and pepper wings and salt and pepper shrimp, both with no jalapeños, but the real secret is making sure you get that little onion mixture with them because it completely makes the dish. The wontons are also so good, although honestly I might like them even better the next day straight from the fridge and you really can't go wrong with either the honey walnut or orange chicken sauce on the side. Ordered take out. Most of the food here had zero taste. The chicken wing appetizer was tasty, the Mongolian beef and the Kung Pao were not flavorful. The only reason I went here was because Peony Palace was closed, their food is always tasty. For some reason this place has almost 5 stars. Makes no sense. I will give you the fact that the people working are very nice and sweet. That goes a long way but not long enough to say their food is close to a 5 star place. No way. Come on EG. The food is 2 stars at best. We rarely eat Chinese food & go figure my wife is Chinese but bc I came down with a virus earlier this week my wife wanted to pick up some wonton soup for me. She decided upon Tea Garden which is pretty close to where we live. I remembered even my niece picking up food from here ages ago for a potluck we attended awhile ago. The food was decent. My wife came here pretty much when they first opened. She ordered from Ericka who was very pleasant & helpful, wor wonton soup, potstickers & not spicy mapo tofu. I scarfed up that soup on the first day. It was chef's kiss containing multiple wontons, Napa cabbage, shrimp, chasu & chicken. It was pretty hot in the plastic container however so have to be careful! The potstickers outside wrapper looked a little weird like empanadas but tasted fine. Mapo Tofu was good with the brown rice my wife made for me at home. It could have had a little more spice to it so I took care of that myself! Other than that my wife said she hardly had a wait so service was excellent & [[HIGHLIGHT]]the restaurant was clean & beautiful with the tea garden mural which reminded my wife of her artistic dad. You can truly tell that everyone involved truly enjoys what they do, they all always have smiles on their faces and if you listen you can hear their laughter and connection from the kitchen. My favorite Chinese food restaurant! The chow mein has enough flavor where it's not over powering the main entree. I usually get the sesame chicken, very flavorful. The location and ambience: The Resturant is easy to locate and has plenty of parking. The atmosphere is average, nothing fancy. There are an ample number of booths and tables for patrons. Large group seating would probably be fine if the restaurant is not overly busy. We went before the dinner crowd, around 3:30 on a Friday and we were the only ones there, so we had our pick of booth or table. There were a couple of people that came in to pick up orders while we waited for our dinner. The Food: We ordered several entrees: two different plates: (1) Sweet and Sour Pork Plate and Egg Drop soup(2) Chicken with garlic sauce over rice; fried chicken appetizer; and a to go meal, Tofu with two types of mushrooms. The portions were large and the food was excellent. Waiting time was reasonable given what we ordered, also we were the only ones there. Our food was served hot, not lukewarm. Like I said the portions were large and we ended up with leftovers in addition to the To-Go Meal. I had my tofu and mushroom for dinner the next day and it was very tasty over rice. Service: Sever was friendly and refilled our drinks regularly throughout the course of eating. She answered questions we had about the menu items which helped us with choosing our meals. Our To Go Meal was ready when we were ready to leave and that was a nice surprise that we did not have to wait for it after we finished. Pricing: Individual and combination meal items are reasonably priced, but can add up quickly if you are hungry. There are a plethora of tasty choices on the menu, something for everyone. I've been going to Tea Garden since they opened many, many years. Our favorite please, food is always on point.

Originally wanted Streetzlan but they were closed so instead of walking back to work defeated, I walked over to Tea Garden. Upon arriving, I was seated immediately with a menu at hand. Before walking in I already knew I wanted chow mien. I ended up getting their chicken chow mien lunch special which came with either fried rice or white rice. I ended up going for the fried rice to go along with my noodles and some hot tea. Carbs on carbs lol. After ordering I just browsed on my phone then less than 10 mins later, my food was in front of me. It was fresh and super hot. Just the way I like it. Noodles were good, fried rice was good. I ended up packing up the rice since the noodles filled me up. Overall, great first experience. Food was good, decently priced (food + tea came out to be like $14), service was good and fast, and restaurant was clean. I will be back on another lunch break. All their food they catered to our large party was absolutely delicious!! As expected with most large events you'll have a designated menu. This menu (based off my memory) had wonton soup, beef & broccoli, sweet & sour pork, sesame chicken, chow mein, fried rice, and a type of tempura or fried fish in pieces not whole. I loved how their beef was not big and chewy, sweet & sour pork and sesame chicken were fried to perfection and did not taste oily, and all of their dishes had such amazing flavor. The restaurant is fairly small containing standalone tables with chairs or you have a couple of booths to choose from. I will be revisiting in the future with family and friends! **Beware that many of their dishes though are made with oyster sauce. I was on the fence between three and four stars but the server was really friendly so I decided to go with four. I got a General Chicken lunch special which came with pork fried rice and a small bowl of egg flower soup. Nothing blew me away but everything was tasty. The chicken had a good crunch and the sauce was sweet, savory and mildly spicy at once. It seemed fresh and hot out of the wok. The pork fried rice was mostly just rice with a few pieces of pork and egg in there. No vegetables, which I typically expect. Portions were good for the price ($13) and I was full. Many Chinese restaurants have soy sauce and chili oil on the table. This one did not and while I might have added a little I admire the confidence of not providing any because you believe your food is correctly seasoned already. The restaurant was clean inside and both staff were very front and helpful. Hence, rounding up to four stars. *Be aware that despite what Yelp claimed they are now open 7 days/week!
