We've been going to Tea Garden for so long at this point they know us by name, which honestly says everything. This is easily our neighborhood go-to for Chinese food because the food is always fast, consistently good, and somehow still hits every single time. Our regular order is pretty much set in stone now. The barbecue pork chow mein is always a must, along with the salt and pepper wings and salt and pepper shrimp, both with no jalapeños, but the real secret is making sure you get that little onion mixture with them because it completely makes the dish. The wontons are also so good, although honestly I might like them even better the next day straight from the fridge and you really can't go wrong with either the honey walnut or orange chicken sauce on the side. Everyone there is always super friendly, and the restaurant itself is consistently clean, which I always notice. Helpful tip: If you order the salt and pepper dishes, don't skip the onion mixture. We rarely eat Chinese food & go figure my wife is Chinese but bc I came down with a virus earlier this week my wife wanted to pick up some wonton soup for me. She decided upon Tea Garden which is pretty close to where we live. I remembered even my niece picking up food from here ages ago for a potluck we attended awhile ago. The food was decent. My wife came here pretty much when they first opened. She ordered from Ericka who was very pleasant & helpful, wor wonton soup, potstickers & not spicy mapo tofu. I scarfed up that soup on the first day. It was chef's kiss containing multiple wontons, Napa cabbage, shrimp, chasu & chicken. It was pretty hot in the plastic container however so have to be careful! The potstickers outside wrapper looked a little weird like empanadas but tasted fine. Mapo Tofu was good with the brown rice my wife made for me at home. It could have had a little more spice to it so I took care of that myself! Other than that my wife said she hardly had a wait so service was excellent & the restaurant was clean & beautiful with the tea garden mural which reminded my wife of her artistic dad. So Lovely!!! It was the perfect art for Tea Garden restaurant. My wife can't believe we finally tried it after being in EG for over 30 years. Yes but we don't eat out as much as we used to. Better to cook at home & eat whole foods. So this may be a rare visit but at least it's an option for me bc my wife's diet is so much more strict. At least we know where to go for wor wonton soup! I was close by at the hair salon with my lady when we decided to eat somewhere close by. She kept this gem hidden from me and I'm sad we didn't come sooner. I ordered the mandarin chicken combo plate which included soup of the day (hot & sour) best I've had, pork fried rice, and chow mein. The chow mein was not greasy but tasted great as did the rice. The location and ambience: The Resturant is easy to locate and has plenty of parking. The atmosphere is average, nothing fancy. There are an ample number of booths and tables for patrons. Large group seating would probably be fine if the restaurant is not overly busy. We went before the dinner crowd, around 3:30 on a Friday and we were the only ones there, so we had our pick of booth or table. There were a couple of people that came in to pick up orders while we waited for our dinner. The Food: We ordered several entrees: two different plates: (1) Sweet and Sour Pork Plate and Egg Drop soup(2) Chicken with garlic sauce over rice; fried chicken appetizer; and a to go meal, Tofu with two types of mushrooms. The portions were large and the food was excellent. Waiting time was reasonable given what we ordered, also we were the only ones there. Our food was served hot, not lukewarm. Like I said the portions were large and we ended up with leftovers in addition to the To-Go Meal. I had my tofu and mushroom for dinner the next day and it was very tasty over rice. Service: Sever was friendly and refilled our drinks regularly throughout the course of eating. She answered questions we had about the menu items which helped us with choosing our meals. Our To Go Meal was ready when we were ready to leave and that was a nice surprise that we did not have to wait for it after we finished. Pricing: Individual and combination meal items are reasonably priced, but can add up quickly if you are hungry. There are a plethora of tasty choices on the menu, something for everyone. I plan to eat here again, or do take out. Recommendation: I definitely recommend this restaurant for dinner. read more

Originally wanted Streetzlan but they were closed so instead of walking back to work defeated, I walked over to Tea Garden. Upon arriving, I was seated immediately with a menu at hand. Before walking in I already knew I wanted chow mien. I ended up getting their chicken chow mien lunch special which came with either fried rice or white rice. I ended up going for the fried rice to go along with my noodles and some hot tea. Carbs on carbs lol. After ordering I just browsed on my phone then less than 10 mins later, my food was in front of me. It was fresh and super hot. Just the way I like it. Noodles were good, fried rice was good. I ended up packing up the rice since the noodles filled me up. Overall, great first experience. Food was good, decently priced (food + tea came out to be like $14), service was good and fast, and restaurant was clean. I will be back on another lunch break. We came here for a graduation dinner and I will admit I came in with low expectations as I'm not a fan of Chinese food. Boy was I in for a shocking surprise! All their food they catered to our large party was absolutely delicious!! As expected with most large events you'll have a designated menu. This menu (based off my memory) had wonton soup, beef & broccoli, sweet & sour pork, sesame chicken, chow mein, fried rice, and a type of tempura or fried fish in pieces not whole. I loved how their beef was not big and chewy, sweet & sour pork and sesame chicken were fried to perfection and did not taste oily, and all of their dishes had such amazing flavor. The restaurant is fairly small containing standalone tables with chairs or you have a couple of booths to choose from. I will be revisiting in the future with family and friends! **Beware that many of their dishes though are made with oyster sauce. I got a General Chicken lunch special which came with pork fried rice and a small bowl of egg flower soup. Nothing blew me away but everything was tasty. The chicken had a good crunch and the sauce was sweet, savory and mildly spicy at once. It seemed fresh and hot out of the wok. The pork fried rice was mostly just rice with a few pieces of pork and egg in there. No vegetables, which I typically expect. Portions were good for the price ($13) and I was full. Many Chinese restaurants have soy sauce and chili oil on the table. This one did not and while I might have added a little I admire the confidence of not providing any because you believe your food is correctly seasoned already. My family has gotten food here twice, once pre-pandemic for my dad's birthday and once during the pandemic. The food is decent here, although it wouldn't be my go-to, since the flavors are more Americanized. Most recently we ordered salt and pepper green beans and eggplant bean curd clay pot in garlic sauce. The lady helping me with my to-go order misheard the eggplant dish as "eggplant in garlic sauce" and so instead of a clay pot we expected, we got the dish she wrote down. It was my fault for not checking that before paying and finalizing the order, but anyway, that dish wasn't bad! It was almost like a sweet and sour eggplant, and the eggplant tasted like it was deep fried before the sauce was added. You could tell because the purple color kept very well for being braised in sauce and it had that fried taste to it, but it was not deep fried in batter. As for the second dish, the salt and pepper green beans, we had the option of battered and non-battered. Before ordering, I didn't even know that was an option, and thought the batter would be somewhat unique, so I ordered it. The battered salt and pepper green beans are what you would expect it to be. It kind of reminded me of those fried green bean appetizers/sides you get at The Habit. Although it was good, I kind of wished I ordered it without batter because it felt like fast food and I felt heavy after eating both of these dishes. Service was nice! I will start off with my bias. This has been my favorite Chinese spot for over 5yrs. It is in Elk Grove. You get an upgraded version of other Chinese spots I am used to going to where I come from. Their sesame chicken is very good as well. You cannot go wrong with a safe sweet and sour chicken either. This spot is a bit on the pricey side. I am one that does not mind to spend quantity (money) for quality (good food). I ordered a sesame chicken combination plate ($15.50) . Chicken, pork fried rice and chow mein. I ordered a side order of honey walnut shrimp ($18). My total came up to $35. The shrimp is VERY good. You do not get as much shrimp as you would like for $18. You also should know that there is an up-charge for seafood and other premium items on menus. You have to pay to play. It was well worth it, and they do give you more than enough food for one order.
