I've been going to Bob's for the past 5 years, and without exception have always found it to be the go to spot in Akron for old timey nostalgia and classic American food. If you're strict on atmosphere or frills, you may not find yourself giving Bob's a visit (or anywhere on East avenue for that matter) But if your willing to get past the feeling of eating in a low lit 1940s kitchen, you'll come to appreciate that no where in the 330 has a better sit down hamburger experience to offer. read more

Yum! We enjoyed our meals at Bob's Hamburg. We ordered the Big Bob, Brutus and the Beast and a side of fries. We'll definitely order the Big Bob again! The Beast was good but was not as enjoyable for me. I wouldn't order fries next time but we'll definitely be back!! read more

Discovered this gem by accident while out on assignment one day for a story. Ordered a burger, not expecting much - but was really surprised by how good it was. Maybe I'm weird, but this little spot is literally one of the coolest places ever. It's right out an episode of Diners Drive-in's and Dives. Sat at the counter while giant ball hunks of meet were pressed into a flat top. Had the Double Cheeseburger with everything, O-Rings and a Coke. Staff was overly friendly and hustling. Stopped for lunch and order a double burger, fried mushrooms, and their bottled root beer. As I watch them cook my burger, I was sure it was going to be dry, but to my surprise the burger was very moist with good flavor and I loved the toasted bun. The mushrooms were excellent I'm not sure if they make them or they buy em but the breading was light and crispy. The bottle root beer was good, but not as good as some of the homemade root beers I've had. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone without a large group. Inside it was small and divey, but sometimes those are the best places to find! read more

Ate here today and it was everything all the other reviewers said it would be. I got there around 11:40 so before the lunch crowd and there were a few other people there. The staff was very nice and made me feel like a regular customer right away. I ordered a standard burger as I always do first time at a new place because I really want to taste the burger. They make everything fresh so it takes a little time but worth the wait. the bun was thick and toasted and the burger was fresh and juicy. the fries are fresh cut and also fresh and delicious. Double burger, fries and a rootbeer (their own in a frosty mug) was only 10.00 and change. These people work hard so I left a 5.00 tip and frankly the same burger in a fancy place would have cost 20.00 and subpar. Next time I will order a single as the burgers are huge! Do not let the outside or neighborhood discourage you this place is a gem!! read more

M- well I'm not sure about the burgers me and D went for breakfast he had the burger breakfast plater which looked dry but I had the omelette which was over cooked. The decor was as old as the regulars that seem to keep the doors open. I noticed one man was packing so we ate our meal and departed without a squirmish. I took my nephew for lunch while his Mom had an appointment. Our waitress asked if he could have a gift from Santa. He was given a wrapped toy to play with while we waited for our food. Bob's Hamburg is a cozy little gritty spot on East Ave that serves up some awesome food. Most people shy away from this place because it looks like a dump, or because it's on East Ave. Not I! I'm a dirty motherfucker who isn't afraid of anything: food poisoning, dirty hookers, gangbangers, fuck em! Bob's is like a diamond on top of a turd.....the food is amazing and cheap as hell. I fed three fat ass people for $15, and nobody died afterwards. That's an achievement for akron. Good thing about the location though is if you like drugs, you've got plenty available to you on good ol East Ave! Go to Bob's, have a nice meal, and then buy heroin right down the street. A true Akron morning. I love this little spot though, stepping through the door almost takes you through a portal to the 1930's. This neighborhood hamburg stand is a long time favorite of anyone that has wolfed down one of their longtime great hamburgs. Greasy-yes, sloppy-yes but if you have had one, you'll want another. I am 63 yrs old and have been going there for burgers for many years. My mother, who is now deceased and would have been 88 yrs old this year told me that she and my father (deceased also) went there on dates before they were married in the 1940's. The place is small but it is always busy and the counter is a neighborhood gathering place. Akron will lose one of the best if it ever goes by the wayside. Last year, before moving to California I and my friends were rehabing a home on a nearby street, and everyone made sure they were there at noontime so we could order from Bobs. Service is great if you either eat in or order take out. (Lots of big bags of food going out the door if you call in your order. There was a McDonalds that opened across the street and it went out of business mostly because Bob's had such a following. The staff is like your family, cozy and friendly. The equipment is old a looks original to the place but the price is very very reasonable, the burgers and fries are beyond belief and the homemade soups and deserts are yummy. They have about 10 stools at the bar and maybe 6 booths, but the most endearing thing in the place is what they call the Bahama Room. It's a table off to the side that seats 6 people. Every time I went there it was buzy and had a constant stream of patrons coming and going. I live in Palm Springs Calif. now but long for the taste of a Bob's Burger. The prices are about as low as they can get (there is very little overhead). It is a reminder of the days of the rubber industry, and the idea of good honest value. read more

Why does Bob's continue to prosper, staying in the same family for over 70 years? it isn't the location--I happened upon it purely by chance, well off the beaten path. The decor is classic 30's, but I'm not sure there are enough of us old diner fans to keep a place healthy and busy. Its the food, of course. My Bob's double "cheeseburg" was big, juicy, fresh and outstanding. I mean, I really love a quality burger, and I'll never look at another $15 gourmet burger again without dreaming of Bob's.
