Visited Vicious Biscuit with the family today around 9:48 am. We observed that you wait in line, place your order, seat yourself with your assigned number, and wait for your food to be delivered. We grabbed menus near the entrance so we could pick what we wanted while waiting in line. When we ordered, there was a place to drop off the menus. On this inaugural visit, I requested the shrimp and grits, fresh orange juice, and beignets. We found a table for four and seated ourselves. The place was nearly full with one room cordoned off for only the busiest of times. While we waited, I visited the jam bar to get some butter. Soon, our food was delivered. The fresh squeezed orange juice was very tasty. I definitely enjoyed that. The portion sizes were good. I was afraid they might be small, given the price. The biscuits were large and good, but they are different than southern style biscuits. They can easily be cut with a fork, but also remain stable enough to eat with your fork after cutting. My shrimp was seasoned well and cooked perfectly. I think they put six medium-large shrimp in the dish. The grits were also not the typical southern style. They were creamy, but still very good. We stopped by around noon on a Sunday (July 19.) I had been holding off with my review because I wasn't pleased with the visit and I didn't want my initial disappointment to cloud my overall review. This was the second time I had been there, the first was when I was invited as a Yelp Elite event. That first time was awesome--5 stars all around. This second time? Not so much. The line was long and moving so slow with only one register. I assumed this was because the kitchen couldn't keep up with the orders otherwise. We got an app, two cocktails, and two meals totaling $86. The folks waiting for carry out orders were clogging the areas where dine-in guests need to walk to get drinks/butter/etc. The ladies room was kind of in disarray (definitely not the worst restroom I've been in, but still felt like it was overlooked during operating hours.) Finding a table was difficult because it was busy and the tables that were open were still messy/needed bussed. Once we got a table (it was dirty but we sat down anyways because we didn't want to lose a table to later guests) we waited well over 30 minutes for our food, when staff dropped it off they did acknowledge and apologized for the wait. My shrimp and grits were alright, the shrimp was overly salted. The rest of the meal and drinks were fine, though. Truthfully, that visit alone would have made me not come back, knowing that it can be a solid experience makes me think I'll give it another shot at some point. Bless your sweet heart because the south has arrived in Northeast Ohio. I visited for the first time on Wednesday, 19 February 2025 and that certainly won't be my last visit. I arrived early at 7:15am which was just after they opened (they open at 7am). I ordered and paid for breakfast to-go (pancakes) which you can read about below. I also got lunch and dessert to go through a Yelp complimentary experience. I had such a lovely conversation with Christian, an employee there, that he even gave me a free cup of tea of my choosing, to go. I chose the Bigelow black tea (lemon lift flavour) and it tasted so refreshing. I also met Jen, the restaurant manager, who was nice and greeted me. FOOD and DRINKS -- Here is what I've tried so far: SOFT STACK, PANCAKES, ($9) -- Two sweet cream pancakes with two thick-cut bacon slices. I substituted bacon for fruit. I got a small side of fruit which was $1. So in total, I paid $10. The short stack pancakes are absolutely delicious and I was so full from eating just 2 of them. I drizzled some syrup on them because what are pancakes without some tasty syrup? I recommend the short stack pancakes with a hot cup of tea. When I read the menu, I thought the pancakes would be small and light because it was described as "short stack". But, the pancakes are thick and big which is fine because they were very tasty. I still had a somewhat light breakfast since I didn't eat any protein (meat) such as sausages or bacon. CHICKEN BACON RANCH, biscuit ($12.50) -- Buttermilk biscuit topped with two thick bacon slices, fried chicken breast, Frank's RedHot sauce, ranch dressing and pickles shaped like little chips so called "pickle chips". The chicken bacon ranch tasted good. I ate the chicken bacon ranch for lunch on the same day that I visited. I took it out of my fridge and heated it up in my oven. It tasted good because of the main ingredient, the fried chicken. I realized as I was eating it that I don't like ranch in my food so I'll have them remove that the next time I order this. Besides the ranch taste, the sandwich was good. The thick pieces of bacon were a generous amount. Their BISCUITS are apparently homemade which is awesome. After eating the chicken biscuit sandwich, I tried 2 sweet potato fritters ("sweet puppies", read below. SWEET PUPPIES ($7) -- Deep-fried sweet potato fritters, powdered sugar, with a white chocolate custard dip. The sweet puppies are delicious but definitely slightly bitter. I heated it up for about 10 seconds in my microwave then took the white chocolate custard dip out of my fridge and dipped the fritters in the custard. If you are a sweet tooth then you'll love this dessert. FRESH SQUEEZED ORANGE JUICE ($6) -- The $6 freshly squeezed orange juice is very refreshing. Don't sleep on this kids. Yes, this is expensive as I've had $3 freshly squeezed juice from Lucky's Market in Lakewood but the $6 price is worth it. You can definitely taste the difference between store bought commercial orange juice and Vicious Biscuit's orange juice. BIGELOW BLACK TEA, lemon lift flavour, $3 -- a hot cup of tea to go was perfect on my drive back to Cleveland. I didn't add any sugar or honey to my tea and I loved it. Normally, I sometimes add honey to my tea but I didn't feel like it on this day. I tasted the tea during my drive and it was very soothing to my throat. The lemon flavour really stood out. Okay, it's just tea but I love tea and hate coffee so that explains my excitement. NEW CLEVELAND LOCATION -- I don't live in Akron but Christian, an employee, told me that the franchise owner, Carl, plans to open a Cleveland location soon (in 2025) in Strongsville. I look forward to visiting their Cleveland location when they open. I can't wait to return and sit in instead of taking my food out especially because I think their biscuits are made fresh, in-house. We first encountered Vicious Biscuit in Charleston, SC and were so excited when they came to Montrose, OH! We've been there twice and the quality of the food and service are consistently great. The bacon was flavorful but limp and not crisp which was disappointing. I should have asked if they can do crispy bacon. There is a "bar" for jellies and butters which is a nice touch. My boyfriend on the vicious biscuit - the biscuit was unique. He thinks they are house-made and he doesn't think he's had anything like it anywhere else. They do a great job of balancing the flavors. The chicken is spicy and a good break from the richness of both the biscuit and gravy. The gravy is creamy and heavy, which on a biscuit with chicken could be a lot, it is a heavy dish but in a good way. The jalepeños - cowboy candy, they have some kind of sweetness to them. I think they are pickled too. They cut through the richness as well and gives it the acidity the dish needs to be balanced. My oatmeal power bowl was good - I have a dairy allergy and there isn't much I can usually have at a place like this - however, a bowl of oatmeal is often overlooked as a menu item, and this place totally gave it the love it needs, fresh fruit, some syrup, and walnuts, I even sometimes add some jam from THEIR JAM & BUTTER bar that that have in the establishment. The fried green maters give me the savory element I want to add to my meal there. I haven't had one of the "dips" that comes with it since it has cheese but my boyfriend's review of it is "you gotta love pimento cheese. It's very bitey. Basically just shredded pimento cheese. I personally like the bacon jam better on the tomatoes." I will say the bacon jam that comes with the tomatoes is lovely. It's sweet, and maple, with bacon and onions, a lovely melody of flavors. Pairs great with the tomatoes and adds depth to them, without it the tomatoes are just tomatoes. I always tear these up. They do fall apart a little but it's worth it. It comes with pickled okra which is good and crunchy as well. Service is unique, you walk up, and order at the counter, then take a number and go to your own table. You grab your own silverware, and staff keeps up well with taking plates away. They are always quite pleasant. The jam bar is really appreciated and it seems like a nice hip new place. It's a little bit more bright and peppy than your average breakfast spot. The decor is quite appropriate. It's clear they had a concept and vision and it was clearly and precisely executed. It's unique but nothing out of place. This was our second visit and we will be returning. read more
