I went here a lot as a kid. The view of the blimp and bowl across the street was excellent. I do miss the food. I hope to soon return.

Used to be a great place to go but has changed over the years and has become "just another greasy spoon" Not at all anything close to it's heyday. The substandard food and service is a reminder that I can make money dogs at home. read more

Sharing because this needs to be seen. From a former employee: Their raw burger patties are GREY half the time. And one of the employees got sick after she ate one of them. They DO NOT wear gloves! Steve the owner only makes you wear gloves if you happen to be weighing french fries, and that's ONLY because you can be seen through the window doing it! My third day there, I watched a kid named Dalton drop a bun on the ground, blow on it, and serve it. I tried to intervene, and EVERY other employee there that night literally yelled at me, and tried to make me feel stupid. One girl said "shit happens, oh well" and her sister, the manager just looked at me like I was dumb. And the kid who dropped it literally says "When we are busy like this, people have to deal with us." !!! ALSO, they cross contaminate like crazy. No gloves ever are used to touch raw meat, then they will use their same unwashed hands to touch the cooked food and prepare it to be served. And I'm not even exaggerating when I say that I rarely saw any of them washing their hands thoroughly. Most of their employees are teenagers who will stand around playing on their phone and then go directly to touching your food. And we all know our phones go EVERYWHERE with us, including the restroom. And to top it all off... someone reported us for not wearing masks, so guess what happened then.... Steve "sweet talked" the health inspector, lied and told him we all have medical conditions that keep us from wearing a mask! (Yes, all of us! ) So he was given a paper that we were all TOLD by him to sign confirming we have a medical condition! Also, it was brought to my attention that he pays off the health department, which is why this little shit shack is allowed to even stay in business. Because trust me, if they were properly inspected, the place would be shut down. All these pictures that I've shared, is what the place looks like 24/7. I can't make this shit up. Update!: Totally forgot to mention that the rootbeer tap seems to be infested with ants, considering countless customers have complained of ants in their rootbeer, on top of me watching an employee finding one in hers a couple days ago. UPDATE #2: I don't know HOW I forgot this... but on only my second day there, I watched a girl drop a whole package of bacon on the floor and put it back in the container and say it was gonna go in the fryer anyway. I made a big stink about it and she said she was "kidding" yet still didn't throw the bacon out... The bacon remained there on the counter until they sent me home about ten minutes later. (No joke). I'm willing to bet almost anything that they put it all into the fryer after I left. Another employee wrote: Holly is the manager Jessica is a manager and jenna is a car hop. They're disgusting. They do not clean at all. All of these things are critical fails for the health department yet they stay open. How is impossible unless health officials are being paid off. read more

I'll start off with a confession; I'm biased towards Dillys. I live about 3 minutes up the road from this location. Suffice to say, I've had my fill and some. I mostly order pickup, and there hasn't ever been a time when my food wasn't ready to go or close to it upon stated time over the phone. They keep the good warm under some heat lamps inside. The food is better than Swensons. There, I said it. I also don't need some amped up early 20s kid charging at me asking me what I want at the speed of light. Dillys is a relaxing experience and the car hops are patient with you. They even let you keep the specials and regular menu to take home/leave in the car. The prices are reasonable for the amount and quality you will receive even after the slight increase in price within the past year. Inflation sucks for everyone, even businesses. 5 stars. Well I read some other reviews before posting this and the consensus is in. Dilly's has changed... for the worse. On my way home last night I was out by them and tried calling Swensons-north and got hung up on. So I figured just stop in at Dilly's since it was right down the road. We ordered food for 4 adults. (With tip it was $47!!!!!!)???!!!!!! Yesssss. The food isn't the same. The burgers don't taste the same. And I hate to laugh. But what in the world are they using for their "2sauces" for the Dilly Burger?? It appeared to me to be ketchup with diced onions and ....... idk what. But it's not tarter sauce and bbq. My daughter was disappointed as well and didn't even finish her meal. They have changed and it's sadly not the Dilly's we all grew up on. Which is sad, because we actually live in the Falls and a new one just opened here. Well just a review. It is not the same. The burgers are bland and they're getting pretty creative with what those secret sauces are. We won't be back unfortunately. Sorry..... new management. Word of advice. When you TAKE over an existing business that has been around for oh..... a long time (30+) years. Don't change anything. People patronize the restaurant because of what they've done. I had no idea Akron was the burger drive-in capital of the world. I mean....so many burger joints, so little time! I was only in Akron for a couple days, so I had to be selective with my choices. I liked what I had read about Dilly's and decided to give them a try. I think my favorite thing is their location. As other reviews have noted, there is an airport across the street so there's something to entertain while you're there. I had the Dilly Burger with fries while I enjoyed the view. It wasn't my favorite burger in Akron but I would return. Stars deducted for slow service, though. The carhops were friendly, but I waited awhile to be acknowledged (as the only car in the parking lot at the time, I didn't understand the wait). My biggest regret was not having the appetite or time to stop by Stricklands for dessert as suggested by Bill P. read more

I have to admit... this was really good. Like, possibly-better-than-its-nameless-competitor good. The Double Dilly was much more substantial and less sweet than the GB but had a nice addition of pickles and Dilly's own two secret sauces, all on a good-quality bun. We also ordered a melted chocolate milkshake which was the perfect texture, and the onion rings here were So. Good. Perfect bite, not too greasy or crumby, and a large portion. This might be the new burger spot that I'm loyal to. read more

This local place is an institution in Akron. It's amazing drive-in food, including hamburgers, french fries, fried broccoli bites, fried cauliflower, and fried zucchini. They also have incredible milkshakes and very friendly car hops. Prices are very affordable. Highly recommend this place. read more

I ordered the Italian grilled chicken club sandwich- the lettuce was pretty wilted that I had to scrape it off with a knife before eating the sandwich. It was lacking on flavor- ok at best. The onions rings were mediocre. I probably won't eat there again. read more

A place I have been going to for over 15 years. I just bought a $20 lunch. We are halfway done our lunch when I ask for two cups of water. Not unless you pay (they say) 50 cents per cup. Went out of my way to come here just because I love burger drive ins. I'm always trying to find the perfect burger. A server came immediately to my car. The menu is identical to the one of Swenson's, but they do taste differently. I ordered two cheeseburgers with onion rings as a side. The food comes out hot, so I didn't even have to heat it up when I got home (I took it to go). The burgers were cooked perfectly, but I noticed they do not have that much seasoning on them. It seemed like they were taken out of the freezer, hope they weren't. The toppings you get on the burger makes the taste. The buns of the burgers have a little honey taste to them as well. The onion rings are definitely one of the best I've tasted. You get a large portion, maybe ten big rings. They are perfectly fried, AND they don't leave crumbs everywhere when you bite into them. I still prefer some burger places over this because of lack of seasoning. read more

Ordered $12 worth of food. They were running a special for their Double Dilly Burger with frys and a drink. I ordered the burger to exclude pickles and tartar sauce. The cashier came out and told me that in order to get the special, they would have to put the pickles and tartar sauce on the burger. The manager said that if I wanted to leave items of the burger I'd have to pay full price, or come back on a different day when the special had the toppings I wanted. When I asked for a one time exception since I was unaware of their policy he said he'd rather lose my business than leave the toppings off the burger. He also suggested getting rid of the specials so he doesn't have to deal with these type of requests anymore. Go to Swenson's, the food's better there anyway. read more

This is a great drive in for any time of year. Is right across from Blimp and private airport. Has great burgers and milk shakes.

I love this place. Been going here for 30 years. Always consistently good food. No matter what I try when I actually do something different than when I normally get it's always good. I personally think that in the Akron area that we're blessed with drive in burger joints but that Dilly's is better than Swenson's or Skyway in that their meat tastes better, their buns are better and they don't over cook their fried foods. Also, this is something that's not spoken of much but needs to be highlighted is that Dilly's also caters to their 1st,2nd and 3rd generation Appalachian American customers by offering things that we love that none of the other burger joints do. Ages ago, I would have given this place SIX stars. These days, service just keeps sliding more and more. From extremely long waits - to cold and/or wrong orders. Tonight's experience takes the cake though. I manage a million dollar business so I know how little "fine print" kinda things can turn a customer off and make them NEVER want to come back. It's Sunday Night and I am given a menu of Daily Specials. On Sunday, I see "Two Double Hamburgers - $2.49". Sounds like a good deal to me, so I attempt to order this and get the toppings on it that I like - cheese and mayonnaise. I am scoffed at and told that I cannot add cheese. I reply back that I will pay the extra for it, I don't mind. How much is it, 50 or 60 cents? I am then told that cheese is $1.45 per slice. You cannot order the Double Hamburger and pay to get cheese on it. That makes it a Double Cheeseburger, NOT a Double Hamburger. Two Double Cheeseburgers are $5.40, not the $2.49 that they have posted for the two Double Hamburgers. I don't think I need to elaborate on this any further - very idiotic... Now that I am home, eating OTHER items that we decided on, we have all agreed that the food we are eating is marginal. This, that, and other past experiences will probably lead me to NEVER return to one of my childhood favorites. What a shame. Greed and ignorance ruins another business. I hope those two slices of cheese were really worth it Dillys Management! read more

Not my favorite place for a burger but the food is always hot and it's closer to my house than driving to Swensons. While it's not a bad burger, it just lacks a little flavor. I usually get a cheeseburger with everything and a side of french fries or onion rings. Both are good. Their milkshakes are pretty good too. The staff are quick and friendly. read more

If you are a Swenson's fan and you haven't been to Dilly's, you are truly missing out. As far as drive-in's go, Dilly's is the only relevant Swenson's competition in the area, hands down. Sporting a similar menu to that of Swenson's with some variations, Dilly's really pulls ahead with their portion sizes. The burger patties for example are quite noticeably larger on the Double Dilly Burger when compared to those on the Galley Boy (both joints' signature burgers). The Double Dilly is my personal favorite and, like the Galley Boy, features a unique BBQ/secret sauce combo that will leave you thinking about how good that burger was even hours later. There is no way you will leave the place anything short of full and content! I know we are all programmed to think that the king of drive-in burgers has already been established here in NE Ohio but you really have to give Dilly's a chance to challenge that title! I first had Dilly's brought to my attention by a friend of mine just a few years ago but I have been a huge fan ever since. Definitely worth your time and money! read more

1st visit 11-4-16 after a wonderful fall day at the Akron Zoo .. the special on Friday is a triple burger for $3.75 .. that hooked us .. the burger was quite tasty & quite filling & quite a bargain .. we also split a large Cherry Lymon which was delish as well .. will be back to try more if ever back in the area read more

I live close to DILLY'S however for years I have hoped that they would add a Egg Salad sandwich to their menu, as a similar Drive-In has. So... I always have to drive out to the other drive-in for my favorite sandwich. If Dilly's had it, I would be there several times a week, in all seasons of the year, because their sides are good. read more
