I was craving boba again. After a quick Target run, I was glad to find Boba Tealight on Yelp! It's in the same shopping center and literally a short walk away! I walked in to one patron waiting in his order. The man behind the counter handed it to him and there I was, alone in a new boba shop. I was glad to see they had food, not just drinks, because I skipped lunch and was hangry. The employee was nice and patient with me when I said I didn't know what I wanted yet. I then looked over the menu options and decided on the Drago Lychee Tea with Black Boba and a Char Siu Banh Mi. I was glad he asked if I wanted it spicy because I said no, so he left out the jalapeños. =) For $7, I gotta say that sammich was a good deal! It was filling and although the bread seemed a bit stale, it was still a good banh mi. The drink was good as well, and I'm glad you have the option to make it less sweet and with less ice. 50% sweet was still pretty sweet, so next time I'll try 25%. Boba Tealight came in clutch and I'll definitely be back. There's a few high top 2-seater tables inside as well as seating right outside. Lots of parking in the shopping center. We all needed some caffeine today while we were in Gilbert and randomly chose this Boba spot, Boba Tealight @bobatealight. This turned out to be an extremely happy accident because this little snack stop was the highlight of our day. We were greeted warmly by the owner who took down our order with meticulous detail. He wanted to get the sweetness right on my Matcha milk tea so badly that he called me up and provided me with a little sample cup of the 25% sweet I had requested and asked if this was sweet enough for me. It was, and moments later my drink was ready. We sat at a table and picked a game of Uno from the game shelf in the seating area near a claw machine for stuffed toys and prizes. As we played, we enjoyed our drinks and snacks. We ordered: - Hot Matcha Milk Tea (25% sweet) - Iced Taro Milk Tea (100% sweet, 25% ice) - Iced Vietnamese Boba Coffee (100% sweet, 100% ice) - Fried Chicken Dumplings (6 piece) with Sweet Chili Sauce These chicken dumplings really hit the spot and I loved the sweet chili sauce. The owner came out of the kitchen and asked how we had enjoyed our drinks and we told him they were very good. I asked what he had put in my hot Matcha milk tea to make it taste so good. It had a floral and honey taste to the earthiness that was so delicious. He said that this was simply high-quality Matcha and nothing additional was added for flavoring. We had such fun, laughing and playing Uno and enjoying our drinks that I could've stayed there much longer. My daughter said the Vietnamese coffee was the good kind and nice and strong. Pick up a "too good to good" order. I got 3 tea and one watermelon slushy. Heavy ice and syrup, even the slushy has no real watermelon but artificial watermelon flavor. First off, the customer service was A+ here! I love being welcomed and feeling comfortable when I first try a place! I tried three different drinks, the classic milk tea, taro, and matcha milk tea. All with boba and some with cheese foam or other toppings. Overall, I was very impressed! The customization you have to personalize the sweetness and I've levels makes a big difference in my book. One of my favorite spots in the area for boba! There are endless choices and the tea itself is very delicious and always tastes fresh and of high quality. My go-to is a mango green tea with less sugar/less ice and aloe vera! Service is friendly and fast whether you order in person or online. There is something wrong with this business concept. It's a milk tea store, but don't have any drinks with actual Milk. No cow milk, oat milk, almond milk, soy milk, rice milk, or coconut milk. Absolutely none. ALL of their "milk" drinks are made with "non-dairy creamer", and since most non-dairy creamers use a brand which the main ingredients is sodium caseinate or calcium caseinate, I was concerned. However, the owner replied to my original review and confirmed that they use a coconut-powder creamer, so I've edited my review to be accurate. The fact remains that they still don't use any sort of Milk in their drinks. It's all processed powder. Second, their most popular drink, the Brown Sugar Milk, does not contain tea. It's not "Brown sugar milk tea", it's just "Brown sugar milk" (with no milk). So just to clarify, this is a milk tea store whose most popular drinks have neither milk, nor tea in them! What!? How about the flavor? It was decent. Clearly artificially flavored. Also, I love sweet flavors and have a much higher tolerance for sweetness than most people, but their 100% default sweetness was sickly sweet by the time the syrup fully dissolved into the water. 40% of the drink was inedible due to this. The tapioca pearls aka "boba" were nicely cooked and soft. However, they were drenched in sweet syrup. So in summary, I paid $6.50 for a large cup of water, CoffeeMate, and brown sugar syrup with tapioca on the bottom. The service: very average. Nothing special like the reviews are clamoring about. I wasn't treated with any extra level of friendliness. It was just "bleh" level service. Would I come back? Definitely not for their fake "milk" and no-tea drinks. I would have to drink one of their fruit beverages, I guess. But I'm not very excited about coming back. The interior wasn't very clean. The clear plastic guard felt like covid era stuff. It was filthy with fingerprints, smudges, goop, and other grossness. They really need to clean that clear plastic wall. There were also boxes stacked in the corner as if the front of house is a storage. The ice chest had its lid wide open for the entire time I was there, so flies, dust and whatever can just drop in to the ice and therefore into your drinks. The staff didn't wear any kind of food prep gloves. They stick their bare hands into the ice chest, powder boxes, and tapioca pearl bin. Unsanitary. Overall, I was extremely underwhelmed. Don't trust the reviews. 95% of them are fake/incentivized. They have a big sign that says "free cookie for Yelp/Google review"... so obviously people are leaving positively-biased reviews just to get a freebie. I mean seriously: who would leave a negative or slightly critical review and then show it to the staff, asking for a free cookie? This is a violation of Yelp's and Google's policy on sponsored reviews... I don't like when companies mess up the honest review system that Yelp is based on! 1 star for the aformenioned reasons. Update after owner's initial reply: I appreciate him clarifying about their creamer, but find it interesting that these other points were ignored. If you've never had it before and you're a coffee lover, go get you a nice cup from Boba Tealight. And a hot tip, get another one for tomorrow morning. Love the online ordering - super simple with appropriate skip logic where they only ask you the questions that apply to your drink. Seems like an obvious thing but weirdly something a lot of boba places get wrong. I ordered the passion fruit mojito at 50% sweetness which was perfect and made for a fun, light drink. I wish it was more carbonated, but that's the only possible negative comment I could scrounge up. My partner ordered the mango smoothie which is exactly as advertised and hit the spot. The popcorn chicken has the right texture in terms of the light crispy batter, but there's too much batter. Feels like 80%+ batter for all the pieces except for maybe 3.
