I'm always on the hunt for an actual Aussie Style Cafe as they say, came across Moka & Co while looking on google maps and thought hmmm, maybe. So we chose to go here on the way to accomplish some errands and well, it was disappointing. The Schtick is supposedly Turkish Style Coffee with Yemeni beans? Are they actually getting coffee beans out of Yemen right now? The menu didn't really feature Turkish Style Coffee as the forward offering. The employees were not rude or anything, but they, they were slow at making coffee. They also didn't know how to make coffee either. Pulling and espresso shot is easy, pouring a latte is not. and Moka & Co brewed a Cortado that was clearly just an espresso shot with some steamed milk glopped on top...which I've had that happen before at places that only have paper cups. BUT if you care about brewing coffee, you will pour a microfoam head in paper just as you would in ceramic. What's worse is that the coffee just tasted like dirt, if this is Yemeni coffee, it's bad. Seemed like there was potential here, but it was a waste of a morning when there are so many great coffee places in the core, we just need more of them in the East Valley. I went to New York City last summer and had the most amazing chocolate Dubai iced latte. Ever since, I've been on a mission to find something comparable here in Arizona. I came across Moka & Co while searching for the best Dubai-style coffee in the area, and I'm so glad I gave it a try. The saffron adeni iced chai was really nice. Great spices and not sweet on its own which I prefer! I preordered ahead of time and it was ready about 5 minutes later. Staff were kind and welcoming and asked me about my drink. It was the afternoon on a Tuesday so it was a bit quiet. I think the space is nice but they could definitely make it a bit cozier with some music...maybe somewhere people would come to work. I also noticed the sign doesn't say it is a coffee shop, I know it is Yemeni and specialty but it may draw more people in from the busy street. Moka & Co is a unique Yemeni coffee shop that I recommend checking out atleast once. The inside of the shop is extremely comfortable, I went on a weekend and it wasn't too loud. The cashier was super helpful with pi king out a drink and was extremely friendly. I ordered one of their signature lattes which is a Moka Spice Latte (with oatmilk). It was delicious and I have never tasted anything like it before. The spices in the drink were extremely unique and phenomenally went well with the coffee. They didn't taste very fresh and the flavor was mild. Iced Biscoff Latte with Oatmilk (+$1 upcharge) Not a fan. It was pretty mid, especially with the $9 price tag for a 16 oz drink. Iced Pistachio Matcha Latte with Oatmilk (+$1 upcharge) A little gritty and again not worth $9. It was very clean and inviting. Service was a bit slow. A couple came in after me, ordered two drinks and received theirs before I did. The barista did catch that she accidentally made my drinks with regular milk instead of oat milk before serving them to me, which I appreciate. However, both drinks had to be remade. Since there was a milk substitution, it might help if substitutions appeared more prominently on the order screen so mistakes like that don't happen. It appeared my latte had been sitting on the counter for a while before it was handed to me because they were waiting for the rest of the order to be finished. By the time I received it, it was already cold. The barista was working alone, and it was obvious she was dealing with a very busy rush, so I understand the situation was challenging. However, there was no apology for the long wait or acknowledgment of the delay, and a simple "thank you for your patience" would have gone a long way. On a busy Saturday night, especially at a newly opened location that's likely to attract a lot of customers, there should be more than one employee scheduled. Having only one person handle the rush led to long wait times, drinks sitting too long before being served, and a noticeable decline in quality. First time here. We ordered a lavender matcha and biscoff coffee. The matcha has a very distinct and unique taste, and the lavender is very subtle. The biscoff coffee is pretty strong, but my boyfriend liked it! We also got a cinnamon roll and the dough was similar to a croissant -- very delicious, but not as soft as expected. Stopped by at 9pm last night because we saw that there hours on Yelp said that they closed at 11pm..... WRONG. We were greeted as we stood there looking at the menu. There was a group of two that walked out as we walked in and there was another party of two sitting down. We ordered one refreshing mango drink, one biscoff latte, one chai tea, one biscoff cake, and one banana pudding. The workers were friendly and they brought us our orders to the table. We sat down ready to eat when we were then told that they were actually closed. We didn't question them so we grabbed our stuff and left. The inside was clean and its very spacious. The cake was good but just a tad bit too dry. The banana pudding was pretty good as it was creamy and cold. I'm a sucker for cohesive design and furniture that makes sense and looks put together, and they really outshined with that! I did have a slight preference for the salted caramel latte over the biscoff because it was a little more flavorful. The space was very clean, aesthetic, and there was plenty of parking. The pastries are heated in a big, open flame oven which is pretty neat. They are tasty bites and pretty light. I ordered the pistachio latte iced, half sweet. The flavor was amazing but still on the sweeter side but that's to be expected. My husband ordered the Sana'ani coffee and it was really good as well. It tastes like a mix between a light coffee and herbal tea. It's important to note that most of the traditional coffees are better served hot. When we first came here, the drinks were very flavorful and the service was excellent After returning here multiple times, the flavors of their lattes are hit or miss and mainly miss. When we returned since this place opens late - we ordered Moka Spice Lattes and received a drink that was nearly white. Upon tasting it - it confirmed that the drink was primarily milk, no sweetener and barely any coffee flavor. The same with the Adeni Chai - it ended up tasting like milk and water. Their refreshers were more flavorful but their selling point of coffee was a miss. Unfortunately we will not return - maybe if they improve their service and consistency of their lattes! It's pretty calm inside and most of the customers there were either working or studying. My husband and I each ordered a drink and a pastry. I went with a drink from their traditional coffee menu, the Mufawar coffee. It's a traditional Yemeni coffee brewed with cardamom and cream. It has a touch of sweetness and strong flavor.
