This location is more spacious than the original one at Columbia Pike. It has high ceiling and better lighting. Went here on a Saturday morning for brunch. We sat ourselves as usual. Just like it's other branches, Bob & Edith's Diner serve breakfast food anytime of the day. They have omelets, sandwiches, burgers, subs, fried chicken, waffles, pancakes, steaks, etc. I got the specialty hotcake (chocolate chip) with 2 eggs and sausages. You have a choice of chocolate chip hotcake, blueberry hotcake, pecan waffle or waffle with blueberry toppings. Like my review of its other location, their food was good and reliable. Our server was distracted though. When I ordered my food, he did not say that I had a choice between bacon, sausage, or ham. He said, "It comes with bacon. Is that okay with you?" To other customers who do not know that they have options, they would probably just say yes or no. Since I knew, I had him change it. When it came to payment, we were offering 3 credit cards to divide the check. However, he initially just got one of ours but before he reached the register he realized he only got one of our cards so he went back. High ceilings and a wide open dining area make for some bad acoustics, but the acoustics weren't as bad as the wait for our food. Dad got the egg-and-pancake "special," which I put in quotation marks because the prices were anything but special AND did not make sense (e.g., one dish was listed as only 10 cents cheaper than the regular menu, and the Western omelet was more expensive on the specials board than the regular menu)! Mom and I ordered egg with grits, yet for some reason, it took close to 30 minutes to get our food. I prefer omelets that combine the eggs and add-ins, but at Bob & Edith's, your omelet is more of an egg quesadilla with egg folded over the add-ins. All in all, cannot recommend. If I'm dining out for breakfast/brunch, I want it to be quick (what you should be able to expect from an establishment that titles itself a diner) or serving something I can't make better at home. read more

I heard great things about Bob and Edith's, so maybe I just came on an off night. I was disappointed with the service, and the food was okay. I stopped by for a late-night burger. Online ordering was smooth. Staff wasn't especially friendly when I arrived, but no big deal, I was just getting takeout. I ended up eating in my car, since I'd rather not be around unmasked diners during the pandemic. The burger was pretty plain and under seasoned for my taste, but the fries were quite good. And my iced tea was delicious. The weirdest part was when I finished. I went back inside to throw the container in the trash. But there was no visible trash bin. I asked an employee if there was somewhere to leave my takeout bag (literally from this restaurant, food I noted to them that I'd bought a few minutes earlier), and I was told no. It's not the biggest problem in the world to drive home with my takeout garbage, but it seemed strange. The whole experience was sort of meh. I wouldn't return to this location. read more

Gosh I love this place. It was my first time and I met a colleague for a late lunch. It is a cute small diner and was even busy at 2:00 pm on a Saturday. I'm looking forward to trying the Springfield location. To start, the food was very well prepared. I had the Homemade Biscuits with Sausage Gravy finishing with the bread pudding. From a chef's perspective, the sausage gravy needed a little more salt and pepper, but to be fair, it's difficult to appeal to everybody's taste. I've made B&SG for a crowd of 80, but some basic seasoning during the cooking process could help. The upside is it was THICK as opposed to the watered-down, thin gravy I've had at other places. Two full biscuits made the price ($10.95) well worth it! About the bread pudding, it was a great custard/bread ratio. The spices of sugar and cinnamon were spot-on. Raisins in the pudding were plump and juicy. The raisins on top should be placed on top close to the end of cooking to prevent them from becoming hard. On the whole, a real WINNER! The servers were top-drawer! I must have been offered more coffee half a dozen times. It was a little confusing to know who your servers was and the English fluency is a hit or miss. The atmosphere was reminiscent of the old-time automats. Lots of white tile. That combined with being located in a "glass box" in the corner of a strip mall made for a LOUD experience. This is a classic Bob and Edith diner just like the others here in northern VA. It does seem a little bit cleaner than the others but still has that diner feel. It's got a classic laminate menu with some specials pasted on the wall or their tv. We got the 2 eggs and country fried steak plus 2 eggs and bacon. Definitely enough food to make you feel good. Classic diner options with classic diner flavors. I wish their gravy was a little less salty and their potatoes had a bit more flavor but I'm not disappointed because it's what I was expecting. Overall if you have a hankering for classic easy no frills diner food, this place will scratch the itch but I probably wouldn't be coming here until that itch comes back. read more

First time at Bob & Edith's Diner and I was curious to see how it compared to the classics, such as IHOP & waffle house as well as the local silver diner. I was pleasantly surprised it tasted more like waffle house than IHOP. Obviously not as high end as the silver diner, but I clearly wasn't going for that vibe. I got the Breakfast Sampler, which includes 2 pancakes/hotcakes, 2 eggs, 2 pieces of bacon, ham, sausage, and hash browns. If you're hungry and want a bit of everything on the menu, it's the go to for sure. All for $13.99. The pancakes were so delicious, I love how they were just a little crispy on the outside. My mouth is salivating as I type this out. The eggs were also easy and taste as expected. Not a huge ham girl, so I won't comment on that. Sausage was solid. Bacon on the crispy side as you can see in the picture, which I favor. The hash browns were the most disappointing out of the bunch, could've been cooked just a bit more. However, everything shown was demolished quickly and happily. Definitely will be eating here again, would be a perfect sunday scary meal. read more

Having resided in the DMV area for 40 odd years, we are very familiar with this diner and have enjoyed meals at the Columbia rd diner. Last Saturday,we decided to try this branch when our daughter's in laws came from out of town yo visit us. It was a definite mistake, which I don't plan to repeat. We made a 7pm reservation. We ordered: hot Turkey sandwich, burger, Turkey burger, macaroni and cheese, cup of soup, salad, two orders of meat loaf. Everyone's order including my husband's meatloaf order was fine. Mine came last and it did not resemble a piece of meatloaf at all. Everyone said ," hey it's not the same" in fact it was a small round piece of charred hamburger meat covered with the brown gravy. We informed our waiter, James, who was very nice and professional. He took my plate and went back to the kitchen area. At this time , there were no other customers in the place except us. We saw four employees : 2 servers and 2 cooks looking at my plate. Meanwhile the short squat cook ( who was the cook) kept looking at our table giving us the death stare. I kid you not. He made us uncomfortable. It was like he was taunting us. Very weird. Then we observed the taller slim young cook worked on my order, and my meatloaf meal was fine. By that time. All we wanted was to get out of there asap not trusting what the kitchen would do next. There were no managers around to register any kind of dissatisfaction. Luckily. Our server managed to help rectify the situation. James was great and he should be commended for handling the situation well. No other tables came in during this time. Clean... antiseptically so. The food looks artificially perfect and tastes surprisingly homemade. In that, it's almost a "complete 180" from the diner that's less than a mile to the east. I ordered a Ham and Cheese Omelet with hash browns. That's always my first order at a new diner. The eggs, while not overloaded with ingredients, were tasty. The potatoes were crispy and reminded me of my grandmother's potato pancakes. (That is something nobody has been able to duplicate; don't get me started...) Service was prompt and not surprising since there were only five customers here on this Monday morning. The staff was very polite and that is refreshing in these days of stressed-out restaurant workers. The parking for this place is weird. There are 3 spaces in front, one for someone with handicapped tags, and six or seven in back. That is not nearly enough to accommodate the seating capacity of the dining room and is another contrast to the "other" diner. Twice in a row and the service has been terrible. Last time server was indifferent, inattentive and rude. Also the waitress' outfit was filthy. Not encouraging about the cleanliness of the kitchen. Today service was nonexistent. No one bothers to greet you on entering, and I could not get anyone to pay attention today, much less wait on me, so I left. They could not care any less. The breakfast has always been good, if you can ever get anyone to wait on you. They built this new place on top of Linda's Diner, which my friends and I all miss. Linda's had wonderful, friendly, attentive staff, and their breakfast and lunch were always delicious. Their cook File' made a fabulous cheeseburger. Nice food....when they are open. Tried to go there the morning of 2/26. I visited the web page and a big banner popped up saying the north Arlington location now does NOT have night shift service, so they are closed at night Fri and Sat. Ok, got it. They should open then at 6AM like the rest of the days of the week.....WRONG! Drove by at 6:30 AM and someone was waiting outside a completely dark diner. What the? Well this stinks. Now I really don't know what time they open. I decided to give up and go down the street where Metro 29 was open, lights on, and serving food already. The food is really good at Bob and Edith's but it only works when you can get in the place and are told what time that is they open their doors. read more

Service was fine. Nothing to complain about. The only hiccup was when we first arrived. It was our first time visiting, and there was no one to greet us. We didn't know if we supposed to be seated, or if we just were supposed to find our own table. We did the latter. It's a very classic greasy spoon type breakfast place. Old photos on the wall, linoleum looking decor. The food didn't come out as quick as we've experience in similar places. There were two different ham steaks on the menu and I asked about the difference between them. I was told "one was more salty" so I picked the other one. Very bad choice. When it finally came, it was a funny blue color in a few areas, tasted terrible and was tougher than beef jerky. "Steak" it was not. My eggs ago still had that runny/undone white to them. So - meat WAY overcooked, and eggs undercooked. The corned beef hash was fine, but not a show stopper. The hash browns were pretty good. They were nice and crispy. At least we can now say we've eaten there. But it will be the last time. read more

My wife and I stopped in aroubd 3PM on a Saturday. Food: my wife ordered a grilled ham and cheese, it took two tries, and it was still more toasted than grilled. My hamburger special was so-so. The bun was over toasted to the point of being dry, and the beef patty was undercooked. Service: our waiter was great, and even though he was working a double shift, he was friendly and efficient. Ambiance: I understand this is a diner, but there were only rhree customers, but the idle staff were talking and laughing like they were at a party, not at work. I have no idea where the manager was, but he wasn't doing his job. There was obviously no pride in the product presented to the customer. I was raised in and around the restaurant business as my father was a chef and I have worked every station from pot washer to waiter to second cook and this place needs leadershio. read more

Why does this place have a giant neon sign that says open 24 hours when they close at 10:30? I walked in around 10PM and the extremely rude lady allowed me to sit and pick up a menu and when I asked if I could place an order she disrespectfully told me they were closed. This is the oldest location. Quick, good, and service was above average. Only drawback is parking. Be careful when parking nearby, many businesses have signs posted and there's even a warning on the door as you enter. Bathrooms were nice and clean and the decor is up to date. read more
