Barnside Diner is a gem of a place. It's between a very busy road but for those who want something that feels home cooked, this is the place to be. Like any diner, there's an open oven where you can watch your food get prepared. It's fun to watch as you admire everything about the diner and it's patreons who sit around you, talking about their morning/day, ect. The menu is vast featuring breakfast and lunch options, with affordable prices. I got the Big Three Breakfast which is Three Eggs made to how you want them, toast, links or pork sausage with a choice of grits or hash brown. It is a gigantic meal for someone that wants their day to start off fresh; you can't go wrong with this. The food was delicious, albeit it being a bit too greasy but that's the thing about breakfast places. You don't expect something healthy; you expect good and delicious food paired with a nice cup of coffee. Check out Barnside Diner!

Always the best breakfast and friendly staff, clean, bright. The food is fresh. About $24 per person with tax & tip.

Well...well...well you may be here seeing the overall rating then seeing my rating. Let me preface this review by stating I am a Waffle House person through and through born and raised, so when it comes to short-order breakfast its about taste compared to price and since I've been in Alexandria, VA although it isn't close to WH its by far the closest I've been to a WH in this area. My wife and I finally decided to ignore the reviews and just try it for ourselves we wanted a cheap, fast, greasy spoon breakfast and Barnside with its classic style diner look on the inside delivers that. The sampler you can't go wrong with and can share it you get so much! Three meats, eggs, hashbrowns and pancakes for less than $20 pretax. You can't beat that and there is a lot of places that doesn't do that and over charges...*ahem Table Talk -_-* The only part that was a letdown was we had to get the waffle standalone. Next time I'm going to ask can I get it with the sampler for an upcharge. Although the pancakes weren't terrible being included, the waffle was far superior. I knew it wasn't going to be a WH waffle, but it passed...I'd get it again. Another thing we noticed but again was fine to us is that they use pre-cooked Hormel bacon. I didn't mind it, but I wish they just cook fresh bacon. The grits were a no-go watery and just not good so skip those, which bring me to service. We sat at the bar and was greeting warmly by everyone, our server was so nice, and as foodies you know that goes a long way, especially if the food is the middle of the road. Our server was nice enough to take off the grits which we didn't expect, but she was attentive to us barely touching it. Being that there are no Waffle Houses in NOVA, and I'm not going to Dumfries, VA to get to one or the fact that I'll never step foot in a Bob & Edith's again my quest for the best non bougie short order breakfast spot, with the charm and hint of Waffle House "aesthetics" lol will continue but Barnside is number 1 for the time being.

This will be one of my breakfast "go to's"! Huge menu, very tasty, and friendly service. My coffee cup was never empty! Great place. Get there early as it gets busy!

This diner is so quaint. It's a standalone building with great views, and its own parking. It's almost out of place in this busy area where everything is packed together. The place is warm, clean, and lovely. The menu has typical diner food selections. I enjoyed my breakfast except for the chicken fingers. Although, they were plenty, I did not like the taste.

If you're looking for a diner, that the service makes you feel like home. The food is fast, but also delicious and the smell of fresh pancakes and bacon makes you happy look no further because Barnside Diner is for you. I had the chocolate chip pancakes and omelette

Barnside is always a solid diner for breakfast. The food is good, portions are large and the staff are quick as well as friendly. The vibe is true to diners we grew up with in other states on the east coast. The coffee could be better, but it is standard diner coffee. I wish they had other options like espresso, but regular drip coffee is good enough given the other upsides. I ordered the Humpty Dumpty omelet with a side of wheat toast and my husband ordered the Big 3 Breakfast also with a side of wheat toast. Both dishes were exactly what we were hankering for that morning and plenty filling. The place can get busy, so plan ahead. We came in pretty early on a week day, so no issues with parking or waiting to be seated. Thanks for a good experience, we will be back.

From the moment I walked in I was greeted at the door, (how often do you come across that?), at least 3 caterers throughout my meal checked in on me to see if I needed anything, the food was absolutely Phenomenal, to accompany my glass of water and hot tea I ordered the Philly Steak & Cheese Omelette and the Banana French Toast with strawberries: The steak was cooked to perfection, eggs were eloquent, The French toast was so nice and fluffy and I just love strawberries and bananas lol. The aroma and music added to the ambiance because I was jamming to Adele, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, James Arthur, and more. I think my mouth is watering might go order me some. See ya later.

Great value, food and service. Easy access from the bus stop and plenty of parking if you drive.

I was intrigued by the pastrami sandwich options on the menu and really appreciated that gluten free bread was an option, so I had to try it! I was not disappointed at all. The sandwich was hefty - packed with meat, and flavorful. I'm not sure I liked the pile of salad that comes on the side - it's a lot to finish for one person and seems a bit wasteful. The service was good, but the sandwiches did take a bit longer than expected to come out. That might not be the case for other dishes though. I would certainly visit again!

2 out of 3 isn't bad, but it's not great, either…read more Like other diners here in NYC and elsewhere, Carnegie has a huge menu and serves generous portions at appropriate prices. For example, yesterday, I had their Peter's Special, a sandwich made from 1/2 lb of pastrami and 1/2 lb of corned beef. Except that it's not "a" sandwich, but three, all on delicious rye bread, each with its own pickle, and a small helping of slaw, sauerkraut, and a major pile of salad. It was my lunch yesterday; the remaining two sandwiches are my lunch today and tomorrow. That's three meals for $30, which, to me, is a reasonable price. The problem was that the more they do to create the food, the less flavorful it is. For example, on another recent visit, I had their Country Style Omelet. Again, it was huge and contained everything that goes into a great omelet. Except, there wasn't a lot of flavor. And that seems to be the theme. I grabbed a slice of their 24-layer cake and, again, big but not much taste beyond sweetness. If you crave a lot of food, then this might be the spot for you. However, if you prefer less and more, smaller portions with better, more nuanced flavor, then maybe try one of the other nearby restaurants.

Bob & Edith's Diner - Old Town Alexandria, King Street Metro…read more Heading to Newport News, I had booked an Amtrak Regional set to leave Alexandria, Virginia's King Street Station at 7:15 a.m. The Amtrak station shares the same footprint as the Metro Blue and Yellow rail lines and bus lines served by DASH (free) and WMATA Metro Bus (fare charged). My train's departure wasn't until 7:15 a.m. and at 5:45 a.m. the Lyft driver dropped me off at the Amtrak station, which is not open until 6 a.m. With at least an hour of waiting time, I headed a block down King Street to see what breakfast was like at Bob & Edith's Diner, located at 1743 King St, Alexandria, VA 22314. This early in the morning, the sidewalks and streets were pretty much empty, save for one of those large tourist buses that was parked in front of the restaurant, empty. I'm guessing the only customer in the restaurant other than me was the bus operator, busy reading a newspaper over coffee. My goal was to order a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich on a Philly sub roll ($9.99) to take with me on the train. The menu - featuring all manner of comfort food for any meal - was impressive. The dining area and restrooms were clean and spacious; service was attentive without being intrusive, and noise levels were low enough to allow inside-voice conversations. The sandwich was wrapped to go and smelled heavenly at 6 a.m. After boarding my train I headed to the café car, bought an orange juice, and sat down to eat the sandwich. Still warm, the meal was perfect! I've lived in Alexandria for about 15 years, and this is the first time I'd visited Bob & Edith's Diner under its current management. There are enough menu variations that I likely will make this a go-to stop for my train travel. Well done!

Just note that in the name of "transparency" the prices are hiding the actual costs behind this fee. If you want to round it out to 20% with a tip, at least the fee tells you exactly how much that is. I have to assume the 10% fee is going to increased wages because that's what I82 is about. If the restaurant group is pocketing any of that balance then they are just stealing from their staff, which might explain why the staff is not upfront about the rationale for the fee.

Great Food, Vine & Customer Service!…read more I stopped in here for a quick bite with a friend before heading to an eye doctor appointment next door. I must say I really like the vibe of this place. Beeline Diner is one of diners that are retro-cool and has a neighborhood feel to it. It's very popular with the locals and folks that live around the area. I couldn't help but noticed how friendly the staff was and seemed to know their regular patrons. That's a great plus, in my book. The menu is loaded with lots of great options and your comfort food classics...including vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. On this day, we tried the chicken & waffles and steak omelette. Both more delicious and was served fairly quick! The portions were great too definitely enough food to share. The check was tender, juicy and most of all.....seasoned!! lol The waffles were pretty standard on taste but I would say they fluffy and light. The steak omelette did not disappoint either. It was loaded with sirloin steak, cheese and onions! Every lift of my fork left me with bits of steak bites! My kind of meal for sure!!! The only negative about this dish is that the steak is not made to order or cooked to your preference (I.e. medium, medium rare, well done, etc.). Instead the steak it's already pre-cooked and I was told by the server that it is roughly around, medium-well. That might be okay for some, but I prefer my steak month medium side. Medium-well makes this dish and steak overcooked by the time it's delivered to you. This was the case for me. The sirloin steak was a bit on the tough side...as know as chewy. lol Other than this, I have nothing but great things to say about my first visit to this establishment. The customer service was on point and everyone was so friendly. This!...& the Chicken n' Waffles dish won me over. We left pretty full and satisfied....which was a little disappointing because the desserts in the display cases looked amazing and I really wanted to dive-in on one of them! In all, you can't go wrong with Beeline Diner. The food hits the spot and the price point is great too. I recommend and looking forward to coming back to try some of the other plethora of dishes they serve! :-)
