Since I dined on their pseudo outdoor patio during the COVID-19 pandemic and they basically serve everything in to-go containers, the food is not presented at it's full aesthetic potential! In other words, their food is picture-worthy beautiful if plated as intended during dining in, but not in takeout boxes. If you've never been here or you heard about a famous dish they serve, you must get the Captain Crunch French Toast! I don't even like French Toast but the way they prepare it here is amazing. Came here during a weekday with my sister for a late lunch on a nice fall day. We left with our tummies full yet yearning for more! (This is my formal review, despite having been here before.) COVID-19 precautions: outdoor seating spaced wide apart for social distancing. From what I remember, there are about 4-5 tables total, some with and without umbrellas. All servers wear face coverings and gloves. Hand sanitizers for the table, and bottled water upon entry. No seating indoors. Plastic utensils for use during dining. Upon entering, the waiter was warm and friendly, seating us immediately. (We did come later in the afternoon on a weekday, so no waiting in line!) He recommended the Sweet Baby Jesus (SBJ), as we were looking for something hearty, filling, with delicious pieces of crab. Yes, the SBJ is enough for 2, and if anyone can eat the entire thing - mad kudos! We wolfed it down in less than 20 minutes and was delighted the entire time. There were so many juicy crab pieces in there, and the seasoning was perfect. It's definitely not for the faint of heart. I have also had the Capn Crunch toast in a previous visit - which is also a must try. Went this morning and it was drizzling outside. Walked in to no one helping me until I asked for help- in regards to sitting at the bar. There was 2 open chairs at the bar, they did sanitize the bar and chairs and i took a seat. No one offered me water or coffee, I was sitting there for 15 minutes...then when the waitress came around for my order she took it- which included a coffee order, biscuits and gravy, and the captain crunch French toast. I waited for another 15 mins still no coffee, and still no I'm checking in on me. Two other servers were standing by gossiping and then I politely interrupted to ask for a coffee. They did not provide cream or sugar. Then the food came out. Which I ate. Biscuits and gravy were too salty. The captain crunch French toast was really really good- the only redeemable quality of this place. Again no one checked up on me at all, not once, not even to see if I was good or needed anything. All the servers were standing around gossiping talking about their PTOs, and making inappropriate jokes, instead of checking on any of the guests myself included. I had to ask for a box for my French toast, and then ask for the check. No I did not tip because honestly the service was so bad. Felt like no one cared and I was just a singular person. I come from Los Angeles where service and food are what really make a restaurant shine. Sad to find that this was not my experience with blue moon. Most definitely not returning. This tiny all day breakfast restaurant is usually fairly busy and overwhelming during its peak hours, yet the quirky decor helps retain the comfortable atmosphere of the establishment. But WOW, the french toast stole the show here. The fluffy bread of the french toast coated to a crisp in sugar melted in my mouth while the succulent fruit garnish created a holistic flavor experience of me. I am a huge fan of the vibrant blue dinnerware that the food was served on. It definitely added to the overall presentation of the entrees, and I am a huge sucker for aesthetic! My dish was so perfect. So much crab! And it's kinda rare to see hashbrowns in NY so I more than enjoyed my crispy potato side. My friend struggled but also devoured that "Sweet Baby Jesus". He showed that dish who's boss. The service here was truly fantastic. Our coffees were always full. The condiments were all in arm's reach and they always checked in. The Sin-Roll for $6.66 was more than tempting. But we still had a full day and night ahead. The last thing we needed was a carb baby. But it is most definitely going on my to do list for next time. I also here that Baltimore is obsessed with Cap'n Crunch and you can get French toast crusted with the stuff here. There is limited tables here and even though they sit like 5 ppl, only 2 ppl will be seated here at times. Super cute cafe that was featured on Diners, Drive-in's & Dives. This location only has 8 tables so prepare to wait for over an hour. At least there's a pretty moon painting that's perfect for Instagram pictures. They do have a second location on Light Street with more seating (not walking distance from this one; we tried to look it up lol). Also, street parking is limited, but there is a parking lot a few blocks away (of course you have to pay--it's Baltimore). The food was definitely worth the wait. I tried the Sweet Baby Jesus (which was shown on DDD) and it was delicious! There are actual jumbo lumps of crab meat, and the old bay seasoning just brought everything together. NO SERVICE, NO AMBIENCE, NO TOILET PAPER, NO APOLOGY Before making any reviews to Trip Advisor or Yelp, I tried to contact the owner, named Sarah. She did not even have the courtesy to respond. My visit on Saturday to the Blue Moon was the worst, and most expensive breakfast I ever had. I entered at 7:15. There was only one other patron. There were 2 waitresses. Yet, I waited over 5 minutes until one asked if I wanted coffee. During that time (and after), one kept talking to herself, and laughing very loudly, and very annoyingly. I asked if eggs or sausages came with my order. I was told it did. I ordered pork sausages. The sausages were delivered as patties. When I told the waitress that I do not like patties, she did not offer to return them. Although there are only 6 or 7 tables at the Blue Moon, and by 7:30 they had 3 waitresses on duty, never once was I offered a refill of my coffee. During this time, they began playing their up-tempo music at an extremely high level. It was awful. You can't ever go wrong by ordering their two signature dishes: Sweet Baby Jesus jumbo lump crab meat on a bed of hash brown smothered in hollandaise sauce, top by eggs cooked any way. This was my first foray into this sleepy little establishment. I was familiar due to its recognition on Guy Fieris (sp) show, still I decided not to try its famous entrees with nom de guerre's such as "Sweet Baby Jesus" and "Shut The Fluck Up" pancakes or French toast. I decided to go with a personal fave and go from there. My friend had the Blue Moon version of latkes, some delicious potato pancakes with various veggies that was delicious. I had the indomitable Huevos Rancheros... and it was totally rad(keeping with the rock & roll theme) . Fluffy eggs, corn tortilla the most cheddar of cheeses!!! To top it off they have ZEKE's coffee for gods sake!!! Why wouldn't you love it? The wait The accommodations are a little tight, but once you get in there you are well taken care of by the effervescent Nikki. As you watch her flit around like some type of virtuoso conductor leading a gastronomical orchestra you are in awe of her mastery at making everyone feel attended to. I actually had this place 3 times and honestly was not impressed the first 2 instances but my third occasion i am a believer!! The first two times the tables were very sticky and ithink we ordered the wrong items. We had the traditional bkfst and cinnamon roll. The cinnamon roll was not good. The place is very small and wait can be pretty long (hour to hour and half). Luckily the few times i went were very early and only had to wait half an hour. The resturant can probably only accommodate about 7-10 parties. My very last time i was here was such a great experience and now i understand why this place has 4 stars. Captain crunch french toast is auperv. Crunchy french toast but not too sweet with a balance of fruits on the side. Churro french toast is for lovers of cinnamon and this was one of my favorites. The pancake special (unfortunately forgot the name) was amazing!! On the sweet side but very moist. Hash browns were fantastic very crunchy on the outside and rich in potatoes.
