My mom and stepdad have been huge fans of Blue Collar for years. We went a couple of months ago after dinner nearby just for their incredible desserts and coffee. The bread pudding is next level and my husband is a sucker for a good key lime pie. We returned two weeks ago for brunch for my mother-in-law's birthday and tried the Miami Spice menu. It was delicious and so filling but as a big group in a small space, the staff was clearly struggling a bit to get our orders right. I wouldn't return with a large group of more than 4 people. As far as the appetizers go I've tried both the Cuban sandwich spring rolls and the conch fritters. Out of the two I enjoyed the fritters a bit more. First, I was a tad bit sad that they did not have the conch fritters for appetizers, so we ordered the jalapeno corn bread and it was very tasty. I ordered the oxtails and mashed potatoes and it was delicious. My niece ordered the griot with Brussel sprouts and vegetable fried rice and it was very good. We arrived early and had cocktails at the bar while we waited for the rest of our party. The drinks were great and I love the popcorn snack lol. What I love about both restaurants is the friendly and familiar vibe. Freddy was our server and he did an amazing job!! He was attentive, funny, and had great recommendations. We all had the Miami Spice menu and it's probably the best Miami Spice menu in the city. You basically order your 3 courses from the regular menu with a few up charges on some items. Everything was delicious and tasted like it was made with love. It was my mom's birthday and Freddy brought out dessert with a candle and even sang happy birthday to her (he has a great voice btw hehe)! Their menu, which I totally forgot to take a picture of, has tons of options for every pallet, and dishes are very reasonably priced. Our food came straight from the kitchen so everything was hot, hot, hot! My only note, would be that since the location is small, everyone has to wait outside standing in a parking lot if you're waiting for a table. I understand why, given the current climate and the size of the restaurant, but on a hot summer day this can get uncomfortable for some; just something to keep in mind. Back in January, I went to a nearby pizzeria named Paulie Gee's for the Elite Badge Bash, an event exclusive to Elites on Yelp. As per tradition, there was an after party and the chosen location was Blue Collar. Me being a lame-o, well, I opted out, and I can definitely now say that I missed out. Nearly six months later, I finally made a visit to Blue Collar with my boyfriend and I now see what a mistake it was to not have gone to this restaurant months ago. We went on a Sunday evening after seeing my coworker's performance at the CCE. I believe it was around 7:30 PM or so when we arrived and service was prompt. We were sat outside as this place was packed. Despite this, our waiter was on top of us if you don't count the appetizer incident. See, we ordered an appetizer and he entirely forgot about it, but hey, he made up for it and we got a free dessert, so that completely negates this statement. Anyhow, I will get to that dessert later. For drinks, I ordered a pear cider and it was amazing. I'm very picky with drinks by the way, so this is saying something from me. Boyfriend ordered a beer and was pleased. Given that the appetizer we wanted was forgotten, we ended up stuffing ourselves with chicken parmesan. Yes, we both ordered chicken parmesan, but we had seen another woman who had ordered it and it just spoke to us. The chicken parmesan was probably one of the better ones I have had in my life admittedly. After stuffing ourselves with chicken parmesan, we were granted a free dessert. We had various choices, but we ultimately went with the chocolate cake. The chocolate cake was massive and came with a glass of milk. Biting into that delicacy was like coming home to freshly-made chocolate chip cookies. The flavor was heavenly, it felt comforting, and the cake was just so moist that it made the world go round. As you can tell, I fell in love with this place. I really want to return sometime for brunch, and heck, maybe I will even get a reservation. There aren't that many tables to sit at and you're close enough that you can say hello to your neighbor next to you! I ordered the grilled mahi with what would be the BEST freaking sides I have ever had. I ordered the sautéed kale and the curry cauliflower purée. Let me tell you something, if you've never experienced what they call a food orgasm in your mouth then this is it. That curry cauliflower purée was something else.... I literally took THE smallest bites because I wanted to savor it without having it end. Kale was spot on. It was sautéed just right without losing a bit of its crunch. My husband had a burger with fries and brussel sprouts. I didn't try the burger but those fries were definitely crunchy and homemade (you can tell) and the brussel sprouts were super yummy as well!
