I miss the days when this was Torches. Since it switched over the prices have gone up significantly and the portions sizes have gone down. The staff makes up for the pitfalls. Our waiter was wonderful. The whole staff was very helpful. We had 9 people and all 9 meals were placed in front of us at the exact same time. To the correct person and perfectly correct. This was also a 93 degree day. We were told the patio would be open but the glass closed. It was not. Glass doors were all open and they have no fans. Half the seating is against walls so there is no breeze or air whatsoever. It was extremely hot and uncomfortable. Situated 90 minutes north of Manhattan on the western bank of Hudson River, you'll find this fine dining eatery. As soon as you walk in, you're greeted with 3 "Edison bulbs" chandeliers, that combines old school charm with a touch of chic. The hostess (an older lady) could use a bit training on being friendly (a smile costs nothing)...perhaps she was friendly but we certainly couldn't tell through her mask. While we were early for our reservation, this hostess made us wait 15 minutes even though there were empty tables. We ordered the grilled octopus that was well prepared and delicious. It wasn't slimy or overcooked as another reviewer claimed. However, our steaks were heavily drenched in butter, garlic and salt which overpowered an otherwise tasty steak. I know the saying "there's no such thing as too much butter or garlic...somehow we found the exception here. We also ordered Cream Spinach as a side. It's one of the easiest to make, yet the chef managed to missed the mark by a long mile...please just spend an extra 5 minutes and chopped the spinach. We love discovering hidden gems around NYC but this restaurant was a let down. While this eatery isn't a hard pass, but they need some work to polish out its roughness. read more

They said we do have a wait but alls is fine, so we drove over. Once we were inside, the hostess then said only service dogs, and did not speak in a friendly manner to acknowledge this sudden change in rules. Blu Pointe used to be pretty darned good. My experience has been that it is pretty close to the edge of a cliff though. I've been here a number of times over the years, and most of them have been very very good. Good enough that we decided to do an anniversary dinner here recently...you know, special location, spendy menu, high quality, all of that. Except that last part was distinctly missing. Whoops. I don't mean to be the guy who dings a restaurant for a bad night, mind you. I've been thinking pretty hard about whether to write anything at all, but Yelp keeps nagging me ("Have you been to Blu Pointe? Share your experience!!!") - and after thinking more about it, the experience was bad enough that I thought it was worth letting all y'all know that you might be in for a rough ride, when you're expecting smooth sailing. (Get it? A boat metaphor for a seafood place! I know, I'm amazingly hysterical.) Anyway, the number of stumbles were notable. Service, while attentive, was confused - clearly, a bunch of undertrained wait staff and bus people. Multiple visits to the table for redundant purpose. (No, not refilling the water. That would have been asking too much.) The kitchen turned out completely uninspired stuff, too. Across the board - from starters to mains, everything was way under the bar for a high end place. And yes, I know we're on the water and in an absolute primo location, but $18 for a cocktail is just a bridge too far. So anyway, I'm hoping that the ship gets righted at Blu Pointe soon (there I go again...) because it really is a fantastic spot and one I'd love to be able to count on for a special experience. Many of our friends have gone to Blu Pointe to celebrate happy occasions. They always say that everything is wonderful there. Our 56th anniversary fell on a Sunday this October and, since we live in the Hudson Valley, we know that all the "leaf peepers" are around on weekends. My guess is they have the view and the location and don't have to work any harder than that. My salmon entree was hefty and tasty. The bread was buttery and good. I had a terrific $25 Pinot noir. Otherwise, meh. A riff on an old fashioned came back as fruit punch with alcohol, I make these at home all the time for nothing. Our table wasn't ready when we arrived; after 10 minutes of waiting they sat us next to the server station? The waiters seem like minimum wage staff, very kind but lots of hanging out and absent when you need them. More cutting corners. The bar was a mess, find a new home for your phone chargers and paper towel. I wouldn't normally care, but given the prices, my cocktail shouldn't come with a plastic-wrapped straw. In short, the bar had all the ambiance of a Pizza Hut. The outrageously priced giant shrimp tasted like fridge-thawed grocery store shrimp... we slathered them in shrimp sauce and chewed through it. The prices are way up there. The service and quality is not. When you charge this much, you justify it in the details. No one seemed to care about the details here. read more

Came here during our Fort Montgomery trip and we are happy that we did. Without a reservation, our only option was to sit inside on the lounge tables. We didn't mind. Everything was spaced out nicely and the workers all wore masks. The atmosphere is here classy but comfortable as well. Our server was so friendly and helpful throughout our whole meal. We started with the fried calamari, grilled octopus, and clam chowder. All dishes were prepared perfectly and tasted good. The octopus did taste bitter occasionally from burnt spots but had an overall great grilled taste. We also ordered the bolognese pasta and bronzino. Both dishes were wonderful. The pasta sauce was just creamy enough while giving of a great tomato and meat taste. The bronzino was light and cooked perfectly and went will with the veggie dish that came on the side. They have not figured anything out. The appetizers were good, but we ordered a Tomahawk with it, medium rare, and they just straight up forgot. I was rude and had to take a business call which lasted over 35 mins, I get back to the table and the mains weren't even served. Nothing. Another waiter approaches and explains they had to redo something with the steak and since it's so thick it takes longer to cook. The lie was bold, just say you forgot. The steak finally comes out and it's basically a brownie at this point, cooked all the way through. I definitely won't come back for dinner, maybe drinks. I came here around October, so maybe I'll come back in the summer for the view. read more

Finally he came by without a word, practically threw it on the bar and kept walking, without taking away her empty. Never once did he ask me if I wanted another drink. Nor did any of the others milling about behind the counter... certainly not during the five minutes when absolutely no one was behind the bar! ??? $1 oysters used to be a draw. OK, they weren't top shelf oysters, you felt like you were getting a two, maybe a couple three dollar oysters for a buck while paying $20 for a Sapphire Martini. Now it seems like you're paying twice to four times too much for 50 cent oysters. Seriously, 2 to 3 out of 7 didn't have an animal in the shell! Blu Pointe has a 5 star atmosphere with 2 star food. So when it comes down to it I have to rate it based on the meal. I came here with friends for the first time after seeing great reviews online. Inside is beautiful and it is right on the water which is nice. My only complaint is that only two person tables get Hudson River side seating. All four person tables are located away close to the building. We started with a crab cake appetizer along with fried calamari and several mixed drinks. Drinks were spot on and made well. However the apps were totally lack luster. Crabcake ($32) was so bland, with no taste at all. My friends wife had one bite and said "no flavor, not worth the calories". Calamari was over cooked, and loaded with salt! To top it off it was a very small portion, barely filling the plate it came on. My entree was the crab stuffed sole. Once again, absolutely zero, and I mean zero flavor. The fish was bland, the crab was bland and even the sauce was bland. My girlfriend got fruiti de mare, which was only slightly better than my dish. She complained that it was lack luster as well. Nobody at the table left saying food was anything better than "meh". Now service... its June of 2022 and most staff are walking around with thick masks on. The majority of the time we were outside, but we kept getting staff speaking to us with masks on. We could barely understand what they were saying, how ridiculous! At the start of the meal we all had mixed drinks, so Blu Pointes wine waiter (who comes around to all tables) got a bit smug when we said we would not be drinking wine that evening. At Blue Pointe you are constantly being greeted and talked to by different members of staff... your waiter, your bus boy, someone else's bus boy, the wine expert, the floor manager etc... they are trying way too hard to be fancy and all it is is an annoyance. I'd rather they not have a wine salesman and hire a chef who uses seasoning in the kitchen! Overall all staff were very pushy, even our waiter was talking about desert prior to us even ordering apps. With all of the issues listed I highly doubt I would ever return or reccomend Blu Pointe to anyone. I feel that food is much better at places like Riverstation in Poughkeepsie. I am by no means cheap but I want to leave a place with a $380 bill satisfied, not disappointed - all of us were disappointed. read more

It's been a long time since I've come here bc I was pretty disappointed in my last anniversary dinner with my husband. We are locals and are sooooo excited about this change. Management truly cares about pleasing the customers and we had a wonderful experience. We sat at the outdoor bar and had the sliders to start. We ordered them medium. 1 of 3 happened to come out Med Rare and my friend wasn't able to eat it, they made it right and brought us a new plate of sliders. Then we ordered South African lobster tails to share .....yes $79, but 3 tails! There were 3 of us so we shared this and it was delish (and came with 2 sides)! Celebrating my fiancé birthday. The scenery is beautiful, we are sitting at a table facing the water and the beacon bridge. For appetizer we got the Crab Cake which has a good charcoal flavor and the sauce brings a nice touch. The ladies restroom needs cleaning; the toilet tissue dispenser was empty. However, there was a roll of toilet tissue on top of the automatic toilet flusher. The food came out cold but the waiter insisted on taking the food back and talk to his manager about the food. We are suppose to be getting fresh food and hot. So for inconveniencing us with the food. The waiter offered to give us another glass of espresso martini and Riesling or just pay for the one we have. My fiancé and I did not want another drink. So the drinks are on the house. The second round of food was much better than the first and it was nice and hot. The waiter was helpful but not reliable. He asked if I wanted a container for my food and then went and brought out drinks for another table and still hasn't brought my container for my food. Overall, this is a nice restaurant and the service and food was good minus the cold food. I would have to rate this place a 3.5 star. read more

Overpriced and sub par food. My son ordered lobster lollipops, on a block of Himalayan sea salt. Nice try on presentation but over $30 for three one biters. I ordered the lobster escargot. 5 one bite pieces of lobster in escargot pots, terrible sauce, over $30. My husband ordered the cheese board and got a few squares of brie, three little accoutrements on an oversized board. Way over $30. I ordered the sole. Inedible. The sauce tasted like a souped up Lipton soup, served over a pound of angel hair pasta. Our waiter, Chris, was excellent and very professional. When I opted to not send it back he (and my son) encouraged me to do so. Chris actually asked if it was the sauce. He knew. I did get another order of soul with broccoli ( which was barely fresh, yellow underneath) My husband ordered the rib eye. I doubt it was that cut. It came out looked very unappetizing, almost grey, undercooked. A side of mashed. No vegetables. My son ordered the Branzino. A better choice. Not great but ok. $345 for lunch -no coffee/dessert. So the reason for this yelp is that I did try to contact them twice on a bogus computer generated apology. Not a good way to do business! The atmosphere was great with seats with a river view unfortunately after that things were less than good. The food was mediocre and service was terrible. Ordered a wine that never came. Another phenomenal experience at Blu Pointe for our Thanksgiving celebration. This time I brought my two children, my teen being a young man with autism. The manager and waitstaff were accommodating, kind, and the service was impeccable. Their Thanksgiving buffet was abundant, beautifully presented, and delicious. You would never know the restaurant was busy, as the waitstaff effortlessly and discretely tended to the diners. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough.
