Went to Lowes to get a duplicate house key and when I tried using it, it did not work. Went to True Value, and hooray! My duplicate key works. I needed a dielectric union to repair an automatic draining system on my air compressor. Two staff spent about 30 minutes looking for the part that I needed. They even called another staff at his home to help find the part. This type of service is very unusual these days, but extremely appreciated. I've gone to these folks for the past 2 1/2 years for my home repair and key duplicating needs. Their prices are very reasonable and they're super friendly. I've found some cool stuff here that I haven't found elsewhere too, like some random kitchen gadgets. Their key making is really quick and cheap and they'll even put the little rings on for you if you buy them (I'm terrible at putting those things on!) They've almost always had what I needed, and since I don't have a car, it was a lifesaver having them not too far away. I'm think that even though this is a branch of the True Value brand, it is family owned and operated, because I always see the same friendly people there. :) People who complain about the "cleanliness": dude. I probably drove by this place ninety-eleven times before I even realized it was there. Really, you almost have to be looking for it to see it, and from El Camino Real it doesn't seem like much. But when I went in I was pleasantly surprised at how big it is and how brightly it is lit. There was a woman stationed at a desk right by the front door, and I wonder if that's to deter shoplifting. She greeted me and told me where to find the wood glue that I been dispatched to purchase. On my way to the glue department another staff member asked if he could help, and he refined the directions to the glue aisle, and I was soon choosing among several options. I left with a positive attitude and a bottle of Elmer's. I will be back next time I need any hardware-type items. A ball-peen hammer perhaps? read more

Whether your merely browsing or looking for something specific, the people here are very friendly and helpful. Perhaps my expectations are a little unfair, being an archaeologist and not a hardwarer, but their trowel selection leaves a lot to be desired. They have no trowels under 5.5 inches long, and no leaf trowels at all, and the staff-- once I found a salesperson hiding in the back-- didn't even know what I meant by 'leaf trowel' when I asked if they had any. In the process of moving to a new location. They said they will be open through next week. They are having a moving sale, all items 25-50% off. In the same mall as Walgreens and Smart and Final. Their new location is on El Camino Real in Mountain View. This was a small, older store but the staff was always so friendly and helpful, always asking if they could help you. Extremely helpful employees, has great quality merchandise, reasonable prices, and great selection. I really liked their greeting cards, plus they sell sturdy reusable shopping bags (which I use for groceries). I went there looking for tools and found Made in the USA screwdrivers (which, believe it or not, is a rare thing these days). Not everything at this store is Made in the USA, but if it's still made in the USA chances are they have it (I spent an half hour in the store browsing the aisles and lots of stuff was Made in the USA). I bought greeting cards, a screwdriver set, dishes, light bulbs, and reusable shopping bags. Has its own parking lot. Very busy on Sundays. read more

5 stars for key cutting! If I need to have keys made this is the place to get your keys made if you don't want to get home and find out the newly cut key doesn't work. I have lived in Mountain View my entire adult life and almost all the keys I have had made have been cut at Blossom True Value Hardware. I have never ever had a bad key made by these folks. I had an emergency heating need and bought a space heater for $72.99. When I got it home, the instructions inside the box said that it was not to be used on any electrical circuit that had any other item on the circuit. Since every circuit in my house has something else on it, this meant the heater was unusable. When I attempted to return it (29 days later, after I was vaccinated for COVID), the store refused to accept the return, the staff member saying that the heater was a "seasonal item." read more

Blossom True Value Hardware is a great neighborhood hardware store. They are on El Camino & Shoreline in Mountain View. I started going to them years ago. They have a really good selection of items for the suburban dweller. They have hardcore hardware ie) plumbing, electrical, pipes, nails screws, tools, etc and they have softcore hardware like items for the garden, kitchen, painting, working on furniture projects, key cutting and I recently had all of my knives sharpened. They are friendly and knowledgeable and I highly recommend them for, not only for home projects, but general contractors as well. And, they have this really unique line of cards ... yes cards .. birthday, sympathy and the like. They are very interesting. The parking is in the back. Enjoy your suburban hardware store. read more

They are very helpful, but frequently steer you towards what you don't need or the highest price of what you're looking for. This review is long overdue. I went to Blossom True Value Hardware to get my knives sharpened. The Henckels set that I brought was a gift from my mom from 20 years ago! Very sentimental and a very fine set of knives. Anyhow ... brought them in and the gentleman who helped me took great care of them. He was knowledgeable and incredibly considerate. I brought them in at 6 and they close at 7, but he made sure that they would be done before closing - even though he didn't have to. He was truly accommodating of me and this kind of service is almost extinct in this area. And oh my goodness the knives cut through everything with ease. They're awesome. This is a great hardware store. I'll admit right up front I'm not a big fan of big box hardware stores like Lowe's or Home Depot. They always have too much of what I don't want. Blossom True Value isn't huge, but no matter what I am looking for they always seem to have it. Replacement coffee carafe for my coffee maker? Yes! (try getting these anywhere else) Havahart animal trap? Yes! Huge selection of padlocks? Yes! Excellent variety of woodworking finishes? Yes! etc, etc, etc... I had an emergency plumbing job to do, and he could have told me any price for the part and tools I needed, but the price they had was less than anywhere else in town. Paul was extremely helpful, telling me exactly how to do the procedure I was about to do, and what pitfalls to watch out for, etc. I'll be doing more shopping here -- happy to know there's such a capable place in this part of town. Much easier to access than the nearby big stores with crowded parking lots. Edit 2/23/2011: Been coming here for almost 2 years now and get great service every time. Have never left without getting exactly what I wanted (even if I didn't know exactly what I wanted) for a good price. There's nothing fancy or big about this store but like everyone else said, the staff is wonderfully helpful. Before heading to the store I went to their website (http://ww2.truevalue.com/blossom/) to check their store hours and there I've found coupons I can use right away. Also saw useful sale items. I've called to ask for a specific item and he instantly knew exactly what I'm looking for, knew that there are enough quantities in stock, and let me know there are two different models to choose from. Compared to large chain hardware stores (Home Depot, OSH, Lowe's), here are my reviews of True Value: Cons: 1. Smaller store - less quantity and category of items (not the place to buy fruit trees or lumber) 2. Older and non-glamourous store (no gleaming wide aisles or fancy lightings, feels more like a "real" hardware store) 3. Shorter store hours (close by 7pm weeknights, 6pm Saturday, 5pm Sunday) 4. Store front harder to find (parking in the back) 5. Most items are a little more expensive but still reasonable Pros: 1. Knowledgeable staff (they really know their stuff) 2. Very helpful (answers all my questions, literately dashed to get me an item when I couldn't find it myself) 3. Good price on sale items (sometimes more than 50% off) and good coupons (can be found online and in ads that come through the mail) 4. I really hate going to Home Depot & Lowes because it's so overwhelming. I had to get some wall anchors to hang stuff in my apt so I begrudgingly went to the local hardware store. They really have a lot of different options. They are extremely overpriced. For example I went to look for a lighted toggle switch single pole. It is listed at $12.99 each. At Home Depot that same exact brand and switch is going for $4.89 same goes for cover plates and pretty much anything electrical.
