After returning from a long trip, I couldn't open the padlock on my suitcase, which contained my personal belongings and medications. I went to Ace Hardware for help, and one of the employees (Jessica or Jennifer?) cut the padlock off with a large pair of bolt cutters in just two minutes. She even refused to accept payment for the service. I was deeply touched because, before going to Ace, I had tried to get the same service at A-A Lock & Alarms in Menlo Park. The employees there asked me to wait for the manager (or owner?) before they could help me. I waited hopefully because I have been using that shop's services for many years. I understood that they were going to charge me $25 to cut the padlock, and although I thought the price was quite high, I agreed because the situation was urgent. You can imagine my shock when the manager bluntly corrected me, saying that the price was not $25, but $250! Needless to say, I felt insulted and left determined never to use their services again.

Armando, The Legend…read more This review is not for Home Depot; it is for Armando, expert employee in the Plumbing Department of Home Depot in East Palo Alto: There is a humble and extremely knowledgeable man in the Plumbing Department of Home Depot East Palo Alto by the name of Armando. I've nicknamed him "Armando, The Legend." When I visited, he worked the evening shift up to closing time. Home Depot is getting a great deal by having him on staff; he's worth way more than whatever Home Depot is paying him. I've interacted with Armando a few times. Twice coming in before closing, I asked Armando how to get one pipe end to connect to another. Under these time-pressed circumstances, he asked me to wait a couple minutes for him to think before me and then get the pieces. Indeed, after just a couple minutes, he came back with four pieces - from the plethora of connectors/pieces on the shelves, one connecting to another. He said this should work. Indeed it did. I was amazed that he looked at my pictures and physical parts, and in his mind, determined exactly what pieces were needed, knew where they were in the aisle out of so many parts, and produced them perfectly. Also amazing, the next day, I came back with a request to modify the previous day's request, to add a connector within yesterday's contraption. I said, "I don't know if this is possible but this is what I am imagining..." Without skipping a beat, Armando inspiringly said with enthusiastic energy and authority, "Anything is possible. It's just a matter of figuring it out." Wow. It really makes you feel good to come in under stress and to have someone this competent rightfully put you completely at ease. He asked me to give him 30 seconds, and under that, he came back again with what turned out to be exactly what I imagined. He is an expert at his craft, too good to be working for Home Depot really. He is knowledgeable, fast, and helps with joy. I was so impressed, I've told my colleagues and family about him.

It felt like he only wanted to go back to being with his colleagues. I looked up and I came back to him with a picture of the tool, and was told that it did not exist (even though I was literally showing him a photo of it). It does seem like Home Depot does not sell this particular tool. However, his response was uncalled for. Was it because it was close to lunch break? Was it because I was a woman? On the second, I somehow acquired a humongous three-cubic-foot bag of soil at 50% off, lavender, thyme, basil, and one slightly unloved Trovita orange tree that was also 50% off. Charles was wonderful. He was friendly, helpful, and the two of us wrestled that gorilla-sized bag of soil into my car together, which probably qualifies as both excellent customer service and a surprise strength-training session. The Redwood City store has a great selection, plenty of tempting plants, and apparently no safeguards for new gardeners with weak boundaries. I went in for soil and left with herbs, citrus, and responsibilities.

I came here a month ago to pick up chicken feed with my toddler. I sat her down and turned aside for 20 seconds to lift the feed bag, and then noticed she was standing next to an open bag surrounded by loose pellets. I looked closer and realized this was open, loose rat poison. Yikes! The bags say to handle with heavy gloves and to keep from pets and children. At least one is an anti-coagulant rodenticide - very bad for a child to get into. I would never had expected to come across loose poison littering the floor while shopping, and I might have easily assumed it was just loose feed if I hadn't noticed the packaging. I told the person at the register but they did not seem concerned. I probably should have impressed upon him further the danger of keeping these open bags with spilled contents on the floor of the customer area, but I was also worried that my daughter may have handled/eaten some in the moment I was turned away, and I wanted to leave quickly to tend to that possibility. A month has passed and I stopped by for more feed. The same open bags with same spilled poison are still littering the floor. This seems dangerously negligent on Robert's part. There are many things to like about this store, and I'd much rather be writing about those. Please clean up this dangerous and irresponsible mess before someone's service dog or child is harmed.

I was a little limited by my need for 8 smaller and 6 larger handles but I was drawn to one handle almost immediately and they had just enough small handles and more than enough large handles. So happy! I made my purchase within 15 minutes! With multiple employees saying, "Have a nice day!" Unfortunately these were unlike most ithwr handles as they only came with 1 inch screws instead of those AND 1.5 inch - so I ran back to them and they quickly found me 30 breakaway screws that go up to 2.5inches - no hassle, no problems, just found me screws, bagged them, and apologized - not their fault! Not a fault! All good! My vanity looks great with the handles, now just waiting for the countertop! If you have time and remember to order, their selection is much larger than what you can get on the spot, some of it quite fun, and the easiest way to change out a look in your bathroom! LOVE!

This is the only Home Depot that employees greet their customers that I've been too. I usually go to the garden center as they have a larger variety of plants in comparison to East Bay. Plants selection is huge and are well taken care of. I find more tropical fruit plants here compared to where I live. Employees are eager to assist. I only had one horrible experience for a plant return with a female Hispanic associate with red hair questioning me. She pulled the citrus tree out of the soil and accused me that this isn't a tree. Given that the tree had died and shriveled up, I return what I had purchased under their 1 yr plant guarantee. She called a manager and no one showed up and was having a fit. She reluctantly processed my return but in the future, I won't try to save a tree and return it immediately once it goes bad because of her interrogation. I used to purchase a lot of fruit trees but it is no longer a hassle free transaction, purchases have been more restricted.
