So happy! Desperate for handles for my new vanity, s I forgot to order them weeks ago - ran into Studio Belmont (formerly Belmont Hardware) - they actually had many in stock and you can wander the aisles looking for what you want. I was a little limited by my need for 8 smaller and 6 larger handles but I was drawn to one handle almost immediately and they had just enough small handles and more than enough large handles. So happy! I made my purchase within 15 minutes! With multiple employees saying, "Have a nice day!" Unfortunately these were unlike most ithwr handles as they only came with 1 inch screws instead of those AND 1.5 inch - so I ran back to them and they quickly found me 30 breakaway screws that go up to 2.5inches - no hassle, no problems, just found me screws, bagged them, and apologized - not their fault! Not a fault! All good! My vanity looks great with the handles, now just waiting for the countertop! If you have time and remember to order, their selection is much larger than what you can get on the spot, some of it quite fun, and the easiest way to change out a look in your bathroom! Gillian was a great help when we came in hoping to purchase all the handles/pulls for our new kitchen cabinets. We came to the store thinking we'd be able to choose, purchase and walk away with everything in the same day. Apparently that's not how this works (but having never done this before, we didn't know). We needed the hardware for just a few days later, so she helped direct us to the most in-stock brand, which actually helped us narrow down the search. Gillian then worked very efficiently to help us figure out the number and size we needed for the whole kitchen, using the elevation doc from our wonderful cabinet designer (Danmar Cabinets). She then tracked down where to find the remaining pieces we needed and arranged for them to be shipped to our house in time for our deadline. When they arrived late, she apologized and quickly refunded me the extra shipping fee I had paid and updated me on when they would arrive. The handles/pulls look beautiful and are really nice quality. I was even able to return the extra one we ended up with! We're going through a whole house remodel and purchased $2500 worth of cabinet hardware. A couple things didn't work out and we need additional hardware for our home that was not yet purchased. I called our sales person Steven Gomez to ask if we could exchange these items towards the purchase of additional hardware needed. He was very quick to say "probably not" but would look into it. What a find of a store, full of all things fixtures in every conceivable design and finish, shade and shape. We were looking for kitchen cabinet handles, and our contractor referred us to it, later we found that my brother and sister in law also had great experiences with it. We made an appointment, and btw., this is the one feature/service that absolutely hands down makes this place. We made an appointment from their available times on a Friday morning (they're unfortunately not open on weekends), and when we got there, the woman who was going to be helping us, Samantha, greeted us, wam and friendly and super sweet. The customer service we got from Sam, the one on one person centric service, her time and attention to detail, her infinite patience with my husband's ... and with my highly opinionated/dogmatic full of certitude take on all things aesthetics. The customer service here is exceptional! The store is huge, literally brimming with more handles and knobs and rods and ... more than you thought existed, and frankly, more first world problem choices. Geez, for someone who doesn't know exactly what they want, it can be overwhelming. It's a wonder and testimony to the organized layout and appeal of the store that everything is not a chaotic mess; instead, it's a beautifully laid out and appealing, artistic haven for interiors. They do everything from entirely custom orders with lead times of approximately two months and beyond to immediately available stuff . The prices depend on whether it's custom and solid brass or an amalgamation metal ... parking was easy in front of the shop. I got so engaged and involved in the process, I forgot to take photos, a shame because the store is beautiful! Highly recommend! The positives: great selection of products on display The negatives: Service is terrible. I understand in the days of Covid the shop wants to keep numbers of customers in their small store low. But they make it impossible to shop and return anything. You must make an appointment and appointment on weekdays aren't easy to get - at the time of my appointment there were three people working, but I was the only in the store. Prices are high, they don't keep a lot of in stock and have very high restocking fees in the event you have to return. I am a firm supporter of small business, and am happy to pay extra because of the service small businesses provide - expert recommendations, helpful ideas etc. I've remodeled my entire house without purchasing things from big box or Amazon because I think service is important. These folks don't provide service, aren't very knowledgeable about the product (they suggested and sold me incorrect things, and then made it very hard to return) AND they make it very difficult to shop. My recommendation -- if you really want to see the selection, make an appointment, find what you like and order it elsewhere. It's a terrible recommendation but save yourself the time and heartache of dealing with these folks if you need to return. Use it as a showroom. read more

I was looking for refrigerator door handles to match my cabinets. I called Belmont Hardware and after speaking to "a man" on the phone was told to email the photo to him and he would get back to me. He did not get back to me as promised, so by the next day I followed up and reached a woman named Tammy who told me the guy was out on jury duty. Fortunately I reached out and she ended up being a magician! She patiently walked me through websites showing me what would match my photo. She found my handles, got the order placed and I couldn't believe that we received them the very next day. She got the job done so quickly, efficiently and got me the perfect product. Not a hardware store. They sell mostly decorative handles and fixtures for kitchen and bath. Nearest real hardware stores are Ace in Carlmont Plaza at corner of ECR and Alameda, Home Depot in San Carlos or the new OSH on Industrial. I'm not the most literal person, but you shouldn't call yourself a hardware store if you don't sell hardware. I understand that people in the kitchen and bath remodeling business may refer to a little metal knob as "hardware". But similarly, people in the computer business refer to their products as hardware, and Apple doesn't go around calling their stores "hardware stores". Since the store is named Belmont hardware, then Yelp and other search engines suggest this place every time someone needs a specialty lightbulb or a new drill bit. I don't mind paying a premium and shopping locally, but I would thought that would get me a modicum of service. The same stuff is available from reputable on-line sources like Hardware Hut and Direct Door Hardware at 20% less. That might include waiving an add-on charge to ship to the SF location. I don't mind paying a drop-ship fee, but $15 just to ship to their SF warehouse instead of the Belmont warehouse when they order something from the manufacturer? How about not taxing the inbound freight. The only reason to do that is if they are marking it up. Maybe spending $3K is small potatoes for them, but at that markup perhaps waiving or reducing an exorbitant 30% re-stocking fee for a couple of common knobs might be in order. At full retail price, they don't have to mark up the freight, have a restock fee that is twice as much as it should be, and charge money to pick up something at their other location. While you can buy hardware online, it's invaluable to be able to feel the hardware in-person and make exchanges for different sizes. I worked very close with Patrick and he was awesome. When a couple of my kitchen cabinet knobs started to loosen up (and fall off), I thought maybe it was time to replace them. I checked out Home Depot first, but their merchandise is pretty basic. Today I went to Belmont Hardware. I've shopped there a few times in recent years, and have watched it evolve from hardware store to "specialty hardware." Today I saw that they've expanded a lot since I was last there years ago. Aisles and walls full of beautiful displays. There was so much to look at I felt like I needed a little help. I walked up to the counter and asked Jim Farlow (Lefty) for some help. He was in the middle of something else, but dropped everything to show me around and answer my questions. Which is kind of amazing, because I was obviously not a potentially lucrative client. He could easily have just pointed to where I needed to go, but instead he got up and helped me out. He didn't rush me at all or do any kind of hard selling. After I looked around a bit, I decided that I will definitely be getting new door knobs. But, in the short term, I asked if there is any way I can still use my old knobs. Lefty quickly opened the drawer of his desk and dug around a box of spare screws to find me not one, but two that were just a bit longer than my old ones (hence they'll screw tightly into my existing knobs. Belmont hardware is a distributor for Phylrich bathroom sink and faucet sets. We have three sets in out house and one of them had the drain stopper rod decay over the years from hair and soap scum not being cleaned out often enough. Diana C. was able to get me replacement parts from the manufacture on the East coast in a matter of days.
