I have been to this Williams-Sonoma location a few times and have had varying experiences. After seeing some other reviews, I thought I would share my own experience re: racism and lack of attentiveness from the workers. Usually when we come in we are more likely to browse, so we usually don't require much assistance. The store floor is generally well organized save for some piles of items near the corners of some shelves closer to the wall (attached in pictures). Generally if we wait in a pre-existing line, we have no issues checking out when we do have some items to purchase. One experience was definitely very peculiar, and it happened when we were lining up to purchase something where there was no pre-existing line. We waited in front of the counter for a solid 3-4 minutes while there was an attendant at the register looking over a large binder. At first we thought maybe she did not see us because she seemed more on the elderly side, but after a while it was clear to us that she knew of our presence (she did glance up and around us a couple of times, never looking directly at us), but it seems like whatever she was doing was more important than helping us check out. It was a really awkward experience, we didn't really know what to do because she clearly knew we were there but seems to just choose not to help us. We were only buying 1 item, but after a while we just left without buying anything. My husband and I are both Chinese if that makes a difference to anyone. It did not occur to me that race may be involved with our experience, but based on others' reviews I wonder if there's a pattern with the way we were treated.

If you are Asian, I would stay away from here. I noticed they only offer samples to non Asians prior to COVID. It's racist. I went around the same area twice and the saleswoman didn't offer me any and just basically ignored. Nothing is cheap here, just high end.

The tiny little stocking stuffer that now cost my family $50 which they don't even stock anymore.

Beautiful storefront with great selection but it's really unfortunate that the service is lacking.

You need to wait on them for service, better off going somewhere else or don't buy from them.

I LOVE Shelby's Garden! A few years ago a dear friend got me some beautiful yet minimal bracelets…read morefrom here and I have since purchased many other pieces, really unique stuff and reasonable price, don't think I paid more than $30 for a piece. Was wandering in here a few weeks ago needed some retail therapy, and decided to smell their scent selection, smelled this Capri Blue Volcano hand lotion and went to heaven. The smell immediately comforted me, seemed so familiar but I couldn't quite place it. I go home to research (I thought maybe it was the scent of one of my Vegas cainos and thats why i recognized it lol!) and of course - it's the scent Anthropolgie uses in their stores! Addicting and a known universally accepted scent! To the point where a man stopped me on Laurel and said "Ma'am I'm sorry if this comes off wrong but you smell AMAZING" =) (fun fact for single ladies: based on research men really like citrus or vanilla/pumpkin yes pumpkin scents on women and this is mostly citrus with light floral base notes! Isnt that something...). I asked my husband how he Iiked this because he's never been in an Anthropologie or to Shelby's and he applied like 3x to his hands and sat there sniffing them like Molly Shannon in Superstar. What a fun cute store to browse there is all sorts of stuff the owner must hand-pick everything because it's so charming and there is always something new/fun/pretty/cute to buy!

BAY HOME AND LINENS on B Street in San Mateo is small store of home decor, linens, tableware,…read moreselect wool, cashmere and alpaca sweaters and accessories, tucked away in a block across from the now closed Draegers. Greeted and warmly welcomed in by Lina. I happily and luckily browsed during one of their sales. I sat lucky because oohing and aaahing over their cashmere and alpaca sweaters and cardigans, my eyes felt to a table piled high with soft cashmere scarves! I immediately picked it up and couldn't believe the plushness and softness of the scarf! This scarf could easily run $600+, at Neiman Marcus, or more, if it was from Loro Piana. Definitely going home with me! I also saw a Pendleton sweater, appropriate for the cold weather. Lina said they also carry the famous Pendleton wool blankets but they had not arrived as yet. I'll look forward to the Pendleton blankets. Among the small selection of mostly Japanese tableware I spied a blue & white square porcelain jar that seemed to be missing a top. I kept going back to it and finally added that to my purchases. It kept calling to me. It could be used as a writing instrument or brush holder, or Even as a small vase yo fill with some bright posies to brighten a tabletop or desk. BHL also had a nice selection of plush, thick, warm bathrobes, along side the select bed linens. This store is a place where you might find an interesting and eclectic piece to complete your bedroom, table top or living space. Perhaps completing the tableau. I will definitely make BAY HOME AND LINENS a regular stop to check out their near, little treasures. See there!
