Got singled out for not signing up their cooking class and therefore not qualified to get a sample of their pie. They literally had the whole pie left and it was more than sufficient to go around. They didn't ask anyone else if they signed up for the class except for me and my husband who are Chinese. I ought to believe our race and how we look caused this staff's prejudice, which is such a narrow-minded way to see the world. I am a regular spending customer and just spent $250 yesterday at W-S Westfield Valley Fair. So know who you had just offended because I will never again spend a single penny at your store. read more

There's only three W&S locations in the bay and if you're expecting a well lit and organized show room for high end kitchenware with good customer service, Hillsdale W&S is not the store to go to. I was just at this Hillsdale location a couple nights ago or on a slow Friday night. I should've taken the warnings seriously based on the recent reviews. I had to approach the cashier for assistance, three times. One of the older ladies would follow me to the shelf I had been standing at for quite some time. Provide me some insight, but would express relief to return to the cashier after answering some of my basic questions about recommendations for 1.5 or 2 quart saucepan. Each of the two cashier's I'd talk to would either reply with "I'm not sure" or "this is a good one, which is something I already have at home". Or "we never have sales and never have online discounts, I've never seen this coupon before." (As I look away at the red markdowns on the list) Workers here are unenthused about the product or working in a small and unorganized showroom. Or felt like they didn't want to assist me being the only millennial in the store that night, I couldn't help but come up with assumptions as to why I wasn't approachable. I walked away with relief I had not invested on a product at this store as I had experienced a big difference at the W&S store at Valley Fair the next day. Take notes Hillsdale. read more

This review is strictly for the free cooking demos that Williams-Sonoma hosted during November for Thanksgiving Holiday. My friend found a free cooking demonstration class online and signed us up to learn some new dessert recipes. Overall it was a fun experience, but 2 notable FYIs 1. It's truly a demo and as the participant, you are only watching from afar and not partaking in any cooking. In the end, you do get to try the foods which was cool and see what products were used and can buy in store. There were obvious repeat participants so it was nice to see they have a rapport, but don't expect a lot of engagement. 2. There's very limited standing room. The demo happens right next to their cash registers so if there are lines forming, where you stand may get in shopper's way. It's a small store so aisles are tight. Other than that, signing up gives you the opportunity to try something new. read more

I have been to this Williams-Sonoma location a few times and have had varying experiences. After seeing some other reviews, I thought I would share my own experience re: racism and lack of attentiveness from the workers. Usually when we come in we are more likely to browse, so we usually don't require much assistance. The store floor is generally well organized save for some piles of items near the corners of some shelves closer to the wall (attached in pictures). Generally if we wait in a pre-existing line, we have no issues checking out when we do have some items to purchase. One experience was definitely very peculiar, and it happened when we were lining up to purchase something where there was no pre-existing line. We waited in front of the counter for a solid 3-4 minutes while there was an attendant at the register looking over a large binder. At first we thought maybe she did not see us because she seemed more on the elderly side, but after a while it was clear to us that she knew of our presence (she did glance up and around us a couple of times, never looking directly at us), but it seems like whatever she was doing was more important than helping us check out. It was a really awkward experience, we didn't really know what to do because she clearly knew we were there but seems to just choose not to help us. We were only buying 1 item, but after a while we just left without buying anything. My husband and I are both Chinese if that makes a difference to anyone. It did not occur to me that race may be involved with our experience, but based on others' reviews I wonder if there's a pattern with the way we were treated. read more

I've come her a few times to pick up stuff but usually they have great stock and I've called to have things put on hold for me for pick up. I have to say every time I've come here I've ALWAYS received GREAT SERVICE!!! The staff here are friendly and so personable! I love doing my shopping here for their sales when their items are a little cheaper! Today I called for their wonderful Apple cider concentrate and the woman that answered went looking for my item and she found it! They sell a lot of quality products like Breville appliances and Shun cutlery. The candy gift items (Easter, Christmas) are a bit overpriced but look good for special occasions. read more

I guess I should have read the reviews before stepping into this store with my family. Tried to give the benefit of the doubt, but after standing there for over 5 minutes attempting to purchase something both workers simply walked away from the cashier area. They kept looking in our direction and did not speak one word or acknowledge our presence. One literally walked to greet people at the door and the other one (maybe a manager) collected papers and kept looking over without ever saying a thing, all to walk away and what put things on shelves. I have never seen a store that does not help people at check out. Isn't that the literal point of your existence? Thank goodness for online purchasing where racism doesn't abound. Apologies that my family is of Asian and Pacific Islander decent (during AAPI month I might add); apparently our money is no good at this location. Williams-Sonoma is a reputable brand, but this location is one of the worst I've visited. Whenever the occasion, they are understaffed and overwhelmed. Most of products they have on the shelves are not in stock. What is the point of coming to the store if you cannot buy stuff? This past weekend I was looking for a kettle. There were a few on the shelf. The manager was busy helping someone at a register. No acknowledgement of my presence in 5 minutes I tried to ask her something. A few months ago I stopped by because I needed help with Nespresso recycling program. Staff couldn't help me: Knew nothing about the program and when opened Nespresso website spent exactly 2 seconds to send me away. Avoid this location if you respect your time. read more

Williams-Sonoma is a wonderful brand with exceptional products, but the staff at this location does not meet the brand's reputation. I visited Friday evening and picked up a sauce jar near the registers in the middle of the store. This sauce jar didn't have a price tag on it, so I tried to get the attention of the two older women and one man idling at the registers. They were too involved in their conversation and laughter to acknowledge me. I saw the wall of jars off to the side of the registers to try and find one with a price tag. I didn't see this jar on the wall, and one of the older women started walking through the store to check on the customers. We made eye contact and I waved to her as she approached me, but she quickly looked away and turned right. There was another couple at the same wall farther down that she wanted to ask if they needed help. The other couple didn't need help since they found what they wanted, so the worker continued away from me. I hoped to get customer service by actively asking the staff, but was unfortunately unable to connect with one of the workers. If they had a zero I would choose it. Another horrifying experience at Williams Sonoma at Hillsdale Mall where I've lived for over 3 decades so I could write a book. We entered the store with plans to buy a $800 kitchen aid and EXCHANGE a Christmas gift from my husband which was $30. When I questioned the first sales associate where they moved the machines to in the store she responded " I don't know I don't use them". I must have looked dumb founded because after a few minutes she came back to me while I was wondering the store and said "ask someone else". Now that was a challenge for no one was to be found when the manager came from the stock room and asked if we needed help. I told her I was allergic severely to pine and wanted to change the scent on my gift. Not return it, nor get something else. I heard and I counted six time her mumbling you don't have your receipt so you will have to pay 20%. Your right Sophia I don't it was a gift. Now just plain tired of standing at the counter I decided to pay the 20% then I looked at the bill and I guess the policy changed in those few moments because I was charged 50% of the item to change the scent. I'm so shocked at the attitude. She knew nothing also about her kitchen aides (a pretty standard request I'm sure at a kitchen supply store) but tiredly replied she could check her inventory but the time was like I asked her to carry 15 of them to my car. I'm taking my espresso machine purchase and kitchen aid purchase elsewhere in fear I would be charged a fee for something. I'm not getting over this anytime soon. read more

I'm leaving a four out of five. Only because I purchased a chocolate muffin mix as a gift and it is past the sell by date. I didn't know but my emailed receipt says the item is a final sale. That feeling of being taken advantage of stays with me. Over all the store is gorgeous. Tidy, stocked and organized. The lady who checked me out swiftly got me signed up to be a member and was so polite, professional and friendly. There is sanitizer out for use, a limit of 35 people in the store at the time currently and a register line set up, all be it confusing, it does support social distance. I would love to come in and shop some more. I guess we will see how long it takes and if I can get over the feeling of being robbed by being sold expired food. read more

I really don't get the negative reviews of this place. I've shopped here pretty much whenever the wife and I come to this mall. I'm Asian, and I've never observed any of the things attributed to this place in other reviews. I've never seen workers overwhelmed, and I've never felt ignored. In fact, I've pretty much had attentive, thoughtful, and professional help. Nor have I ever been treated in anything but a polite manner. I'm about to go back to see how they handle my return, and I'll probably be back again in the future. read more

We browsed into this store to look around. Some Spanish-speaking women went to sample edibles at the main checkout counter. They work harshly prompted by a woman without a name tag who said that the stuff was contaminated and threw them out. However, five minutes before others were just there munching away! I spoke to the same woman about a coffee maker and when I told her I just purchased a Philips Espresso maker she said that it was not Italian-made and would break down more than the Swiss one she had for sale which was $1500 more. I told her that I ordered it from Williams Sonoma and she said I could not return it unless it was defective. This woman's attitude was atrocious and if I had seen her treatment of the ladies who came by and her obvious attempts to make me have "buyer remorse" and was the manager, would have dismissed her immediately. Ya know, I am usually not a big retailer fan, but I walked through Williams-Sonoma recently and really enjoyed my time. Sure, everything is over-priced and the store tries to bake cookies and offer hot chocolate to ignore that fact, but I found couple items that I actually will use. I bought a sturdy salad spinner and a heavy duty pizza stone -- items that I have not found anywhere else. The staff was pretty busy with the holiday sales, but they still found time to help me. WOW! This cooking store was AMAZING! So much to chose from and cool products that you normally wouldn't think of for cooking. Definitely a cool place to check out, especially if you really love to cook! Basically I feel like it was a chefs dream store! bought a splatter guard online but it was delivered with a tear in it so i came to return it. they returned it no problem but since its an online order they said the gift card would be mailed to my house. they couldnt just give me one at the store because they said it was different systems. terrible system that doesnt link to each other... anywho, this place is small but has the essentials. theres some good sales that happen randomly. they dont connect to the online store so cheaper prices cant be honored which is terrible... the employees are friendly and ask if you need help. they have a bathroom in store thats cleaner than the upstairs mall bathrooms. read more

For whatever reason they kept cancelling my orders without letting me know by email or call. I found it days after on estimated delivery day and learned the order was "CANCELLED"! Wife and I ordered peppermint bark for pickup as a gift for a family friend. Went to pick it up at Hillsdale and it came in a brown paper bag. Assumed everything was fine, but when we got home the tin box the peppermint bark came in had a big dent. We went back the next day hoping to exchange it for a box that was not dented. However, the sales person said that there was no exchanges and didn't specify why. As my wife asked for clarification, the sales person communicated it was due to COVID. This was surely reasonable and understandable. However thorough out the entire process the sales person was rude and also added that we should have checked the item when we picked it up. Yes, lesson learned that we (and you) need to examine items you pick up from this store VERY CAREFULLY as they aren't going to check it for you. Service workers are overworked, burned out, and stressed. Let's help them out this holiday season and pickup where they can't. Ho ho ho! read more

I will never give this store my business again. I asked the salesperson (Caucasian male) if the sauté pan that I was planning to purchase, is going to go on sale anytime soon. His response was no, so I went ahead and paid full price. Went home that evening and noticed a dent in the lid.
