Great inventory, great prices, very friendly and helpful employees.....as an old lady, I fondly remember Sears at Hillsdale, and the Emporium. I still love going to Macy's. When I was in San Carlos this morning, I stopped in to Home Goods and was very pleasantly surprised. I found everything I was looking for, plus several more items. It did remind me of Sears in terms of excellent kitchen and bathroom supplies, lovely clothing choices, everything a person could want for their home. Refused a return of completely unused dual set of pillows because there was an almost imperceivable scuff mark which was identified right after being brought home and transported in an immaculate backseat of a car. Present with small child and completely obstinate indicating their floor staff make sure all objects are perfect at point of sale (yeah, right). Won't ever be returning to this store. Buyer beware here -- they will go out of their way to lie that merchandise they sell never has imperfections and that it's the customer's fault if you return anything that missed a 20-point inspection required of the consumer. I was inspired by a recent visit to a Home Goods in Austin - San Carlos location has a decent selection but the Austin store was so much more organized, better selection (SC store has so many damaged goods) and more employees! Great products but what's the point when it's a Tuesday at 12:44 PM and you're just standing in line because there are more employees standing at the end of the registers then there are those open. You heard that right there were five different employees standing standing at the end of the registers well only three register open and the entire line was at a standstill. I ask a gentleman he just shrugged at me so I went down the five until I found one that would call someone this is just such a bullshit. read more

I visit this store often and it is always clean and well organized. However, every time I come here the checkout lines are extremely long. On many occasions I've had to leave items behind because the wait was simply too long. Today I decided to stay in line and timed it, 38 minutes just to check out. I spent more time waiting in line than I did shopping, which is absolutely unacceptable. There were 16 cashier stations available, yet only 4 were open. That level of understaffing makes the checkout process incredibly frustrating for customers. I've never been so annoyed paying for my purchases. I won't be waiting in a line that long again. The line to check out here is always a 20 minute minimum wait. If you're here on the weekend or during the holidays, be prepared to wait 30 minutes or more. The store desperately needs more cashiers. I hardly ever shop at this location because of the long checkout lines. read more

We have been visiting this store for a few yrs. My husband and I have always enjoyed shopping in this store, but the last visit we noticed a difference. Every time we are are in the area there is no way we will miss visiting Homegoods in SC. Selection never fails! Parking can be tough though. Place is always organized though in this visit some areas are too crowded. Staff members are always professional and polite. read more

As someone with little to no style when it comes to home decor, I've really come to appreciate Homegoods while trying figure out this whole adulting life. Accent pieces like bedside lamps, tables, towels, and organizers are things that I have a really hard time ordering online. I like to be able to see things in person before I purchase and it's been kinda fun to see what kinda finds there are every time I visit. I can see why this place is dangerous, because it's kinda like Target, you go in looking for one thing and before you know it, you are spendings $100s. The store itself is organized pretty well, although there's just a ton of stuff to sift through, it's half the fun of finding hidden gems for things you may not need but really want. I recently purchased a couple of bedside lamps, and absolutely love em. For only $20 piece, it felt more comfortable than buying these online, because I needed a specific size and fit. While searching I was able to find a super fuzzy dog bed for the pup which she absolutely loves. Again, another item I can't buy online because I'm terrible at measuring anything lol Waiting in lines and dealing with this crazy parking lot is never fun, so I avoid this plaza during the weekends. Weekdays are the best time to go because parking is easy, and lines aren't as long. read more

Shopping in San Carlos... My friend brought me here, saying, "I wish we had this store in Hawaii..." True... We do not have any HomeGoods Store in the 50th State. This is the first time I stepped inside of one, even though I drove past one in Las Vegas many times. Today's visit reminded me of the home department of Ross, expanded by ten times! There were so many pillows, kitchen gadgets, figurines, towels, furniture, etc. Wow! I'm wondering now if I should stop at the one in Las Vegas and let my mom wander around a bit... haha! P.S. It's a homegoods. It has lots of stuff. Lines are long especially on weekends. Prices are good but seeing a slow creep over the years and the value isn't as good as it once was but it's still decent enough if you can make it a quick trip. Selection is hit or miss so as long as you're flexible you should be fine. read more

I just went here today and they really restocked for spring! Found a beautiful opi polish for half the price. There were alot of beautiful dresses but I didn't have enough time to try anything on. The jewelry department had really cute anklets, coastal charm necklaces, and gemstone bracelets. I saw a really cute pair of abalone shell butterfly earrings that were made in Bali. I can never leave without buying a new toy for my dog it's much more affordable than petsmart. I also like to browse the stationary section because they have better choices than what you would find in a grocery aisle. Overall it was very organized, and I was lucky because there was a very short line. read more

I want to give this place a good review after the "facelift" it got. The aisles are more organized for the most part, less disaster of items scattered everywhere and never put back in their place. I'll give it to management, there is a good amount of staff in the aisles consistently putting items in their place. But that's where it stops. Something shattered in an aisle over and piqued my interested. I paused my music to peak around the corner just to see an employee look at the broken item on the floor, shrug and walk away to tend to a different aisle. I get to the register and the cashier, Joana, is in another world. I found an item I wanted to purchase but it didn't have a tag. So I asked her to look into it. She brought it to someone and then came back to continue scanning. During this time, she was called over the speaker for her break, which I guess meant she could completely tune out of her job. She finished scanning my items and we were still waiting the price check, so I thought she would've bagged the other items in the meantime. We continued to wait and I said I would just leave the item. She handed me my receipt and that was it. Didn't bag any of my items, including the fragile items that are typically wrapped in tissue paper to protect them. I asked if she had a bag, she grabbed one and went to hang it to me and then in a hurry started throwing my CANDLES in. I grabbed everything fragile off the counter before she could throw it in and walked out with most of my items unbagged. I think the whole "close, but no cigar" saying comes to mind here... read more

This is the absolute worst HomeGoods in the San Mateo area! There is always a Disney winding line all the way to the TJMaxx side. I was in there today (Thursday at 3pm) and spent 40 minutes in the line. I heard them call over the PA system twice during that time for all cashiers to the registers and when I got up to the front there were 4 cashiers ( they have like 12 registers). It is so frustrating because I love TJMaxx and HomeGoods, but this situation is ridiculous. I have also seen the long line and had to go to an appointment down the street and tried to have them hold a few items and was told that they could only hold items from TJMaxx, not HomeGoods. What?! What kind of nonsense is that? In a regular TJMaxx they carry almost everything that is carried in a HomeGoods, so I don't understand the reasoning for that. Unfortunately, this is the only HomeGoods in the area and because of this I don't go there as often as I would if it were run efficiently. read more

I've been wanting to go to this location for years after seeing it off the 101. I was super disappointed with the parking lot- small spaces, packed, and lots of traffic getting in and out. It's a very busy shopping center and I wish it was better. People just walk everywhere and my car was almost hit twice. Inside, it has a lot of furniture options and the aisles are filled with items. The line is combined with the TJ Maxx next door and I seriously counted 26 people in line so I ended up leaving and not buying anything. I came looking for two specific furniture pieces and didn't see what I needed. I would return but never again on a Saturday afternoon! read more

UNsanitary cashier!!! Cashier #11 this afternoon - young woman w dyed blonde hair. When we approached she was fiddling with her hair with her hands. Then she stuck a finger in her mouth(!) as the transaction was being done. Wtf, how can she not know this is disgustingly unsanitary, I don't want her nasty bacteria/viruses transferred to my items or to my receipt. And doesn't she know she's putting germs into her own mouth after touching customers' items and who knows how dirty they are. And why can't they staff more cashiers? The line was circling around almost to the door closest to Industrial Blvd. it was bad before Christmas and no better today. I saw a supervisor(?) with "Coordinator" on her badge but she was doing a go-back or something. Do the go-backs when the store is closed and get the customers in and out promptly! read more

Oh maan this home goods is chock full of stuff! I was actually a little overwhelmed with the sheer amount of items overflowing the shelves. Highly recommend this place if you just moved into a new place and need cooking supplies, pillows, or random tchotchkes to personalize your home. Pretty much anything you need I'm sure you can find some version of it here. Pluses - attached to a TJMaxx so you can one stop shop. Big negative - The Wait! We stopped by on a random weekend afternoon and the line was already out of control. I can't imagine what it would look like closer to Christmas so keep this in mind. There seemed to be a lot of workers milling about behind the registers but not a lot of cashiers! It was a 15 minute wait for us and the line was pretty slow moving so unless you're buying a couple of things you really want it might not be worth the wait or perhaps just time your trip here for a weekday or early AM on the weekend. read more

Come here if you LOVE candles!!! I am obsessed with Sand + Fog candles and they have a huge selection of scents. I went and they mainly had the larger sizes for $14.99. The smaller ones go for $7.99 but I didn't spot too many of those. I went to another Homegoods that barely had any of this brand at all so I'm so pleased. They used to have a better selection of dishes but now it's a little sad looking. read more

I don't know what to call this; the only thing I can think of is lack of respect for customers, lack of organization and...greed? I don't know what the financial situation is for TJ Maxx, but I do know that they own Marshall's, Ross and God knows what else... It is the week before Christmas and in the thirty or so years I've been coming here, I've NEVER seen TWO cashiers for a crowd that winds around to the center of the store. At moments they've got three until one goes off. The wait is ridiculous and it is CLEAR that the poor store manager and cashiers are doing everything they can to service everyone as quickly as possible, which is still woefully slow considering the mass of people here. SHAMEFUL, TJ. Maxx. NO STAFFING=HORRIBLE DISSERVICE. Also, the quality of many products has deteriorated terribly; ie. where they used to have pretty, quality comforters in cotton, they now bring mostly the dreaded polyester. Yuck. Their ear plugs used to be ok (not great but decent and a good deal for someone losing their ear buds constantly) and I could use them with my iPhone with an adapter; now they're completely unusable. Do you ever wonder if you're really getting a good deal at TJ Maxx? Or a deal at all? Well, I did. Until today. I just bought Frog and Toad Together by Arnold Lobel. It was $5.99 - "Compare to $12.00". When I peeled off the label, which was covering the original price, there it was in black and white: $3.99. The damn thing should have at least been $3.98 for f's sake! They always get me when I'm waiting in the check out line. So many cute trinkets I don't need. And even more aesthetically boring trinkets I don't want. I read an article recently that stated a customer gets more of a deal by shopping at Nordstrom Rack. I'll be going there from now on for new towels or whatever. Consider yourself boycotted, HomeGoods. And all your side-kicks, too (TJ Maxx, Marshalls, etc.). You're gross. read more

I've been to this Home Goods a handful of times. My husband and I bought a house this year, and after some slight updates, we were ready to begin the process of decorating our home. Thanksgiving was coming, and I was able to find my table runner, sheet sets, pillow cases, duvet covers, and several other small kitchen appliances for half of their original price. This location seems to be updated FREQUENTLY. I came in one day, and then the next day I found more items that hadn't been there the day before! You will definitely have to look through everything. The place isn't as organized as it could be, but honestly, the employees try to keep things in tact. It's the rude customers who mess everything up. Honestly, watching some of these crazy Bay Area women prowl around Home Goods makes me (occasionally) question humanity. The lines here can be SUPER long, so be prepared to wait. I found an item and it didn't have a price tag on it, they made me wait 30 minutes so they can "evaluate" the price but then they came and accused me of taking the label off myself and said I couldn't buy it today. Then I was like ok whatever, I said can I buy the rest of my stuff? The cashier scanned a jewelry box that had 2 missing handles on two of the drawers, so I asked if I can at least get a discount on the broken item, waited another 15 minutes just so they could say we can knock off 10% of $99. One of the newer locations in the Bay Area. From what I regularly see, this place has the best selection in rugs, accent tables and accent chairs compared to other locations. It's a "smaller" location compared to Redwood City's or Almaden Plaza SJ's, so there will often be fewer cashiers at the front. I actually like the smaller locations like this one. It's similar to the one on Camden Ave SJ where there less of a chance of playing bumper cars with the carts in the aisles and no 'Disneyland line' when you are checking out. Parking is not a hassle which is good when you have to carry to your car your big furnishings/housewares loot afterwards. read more

This location is combined with TJ Maxx, into one large shopping experience. The HomeGoods section has lots of quality inventory and usually fills all shelf spaces. Great for the home decor shopper.
