Pretty decent selection of home repair items like adhesives, wall mounts, light bulbs, plastic utensils, paper plates, etc. Everything is packed in there, but somehow was able to find the things I needed without any help. Items are priced a bit higher than Amazon or Walmart, but if you are in a bind or short on time it might be a necessary evil. Service here is severely lacking - I was trying to make a return and the man at the front was straight rude about it. They dont accept returns outside of the three franchises stores owned by that specific owner. That is ok, but this wasn't explained well and when I asked further, they rolled their eyes and said "like I already said, I can't help you - this isn't Fremont ".. uhm. ok. I came to Ace Hardware after wasting an hour at Home Depot, though the elderly gentlemen seemed busy. The younger fella was absolutely patient and helped me locate two screws that I needed for an item that was not standard. I really appreciated his patience and diligence to ensure that I walked out with the right part. We were still busy talking about locating the part after I purchased it. They've hired new front facing people but they failed to train them on some basics. I came in to recycle a CFL lightbulb and they said Recology doesn't take them anymore?? And that the service told the store they can't collect them either?? What? I know for a fact we have Hazardous Household Waste collection and we can make appointments to drop off so the cashier is wrong on that front. The store most likely discontinued the service for whatever reason. I ended up driving to Lowe's to recycle. Better to call in and see if they even take batteries at this point. I have been to this Burlingame Ace Hardware store several times and always received great customer service. It is well stocked for any item that you could possibly need for your home or other repairs. The staff is always excellent, polite and helpful. I was very fortunate to be helped by an experienced staff who understood completely about screws, nuts, washer, and the spring screw to fasten the bug deflector on my hood of my car. He explained to me how to put the parts together so that the screw will not fall off with movement. When I got home and tried to put the screw on the hood, I forgot the order of how the screw, washer, spring screw and nut were to be arranged. I called the store back and talked to the same staff who was very helpful to me. He explained in detail the process again and I was able to complete my task. Thank you so much for your help. I had gone to the dealership to try to find the appropriate part, but it was not in stock and discontinued. The dealership was not helpful in directing me on how to find appropriate parts. read more

Very disappointing experience with customer service. The two older gentlemen at the front were extremely rude and unhelpful. When we tried to return an item, they immediately told us that returns weren't allowed -- something no one mentioned when we purchased it. Instead of explaining the policy calmly, they spoke to us in an aggressive and accusatory tone, making the entire interaction uncomfortable. The five stars is meant for the older Black gentleman who works there on weekends and other times at a local lumberyard. (My poor memory means I totally forgot his name.) He was very helpful when I visited several weeks ago. My father had not heard his answer to me and asked him the exact same question I just did but he was patient and answered him again. Followed his suggestions and they helped me and my neighbor fix our plumbing issues. Otherwise, service can be hit-or-miss depending on who you encounter. If I could give less than 1 star I would. The Russian lady who works here is rude and plain mean. She indirectly accused me of stealing when trying to do an exchange for two different kinds of locks. I don't know if it was racial profiling or if it's because my outfit made me look younger like a kid that day. If you are able, definitely go to a different hardware store for a better experience. Also be weary when you do returns/exchanges, she has very specific rules that aren't consistent with any other retail store. I've been fairly disappointed with some of the service as of recent. I was told for purchases to just keep the receipt as needed but was never told that I couldnt return items if I used them and it didn't work. This was for some bathroom caulking that didn't function as I expected it to. Last night we toasted the abilities of the woman behind the counter. Newbies, don't be put off by Camie's gruff exterior--it's a Slavic thing: respect through strength. She stocks a deep selection of parts & supplies, though you may need to ask for help finding items. Better, Camie knows her stock. She carries furnace filters in sizes not available at Home Depot. These are stored way overhead, so ask. Any time a person can avoid soulless Home Depot is a win, no? Best of all, she is willing to troubleshoot. Yesterday for instance, I swore I needed 3032 size batteries for a car key. I'm a careful guy & made notes of the size required from the owner's manual. Not only did she persist in finding a solution--maybe 2032?, she opened up the Acura key to reveal that 2032 is indeed stamped in tiny letters inside. These were in stock & priced better than elsewhere. Key works. It takes a lot to render me speechless. I will be back. read more

I wanted to test my costly online heater investment before using the appliance back home. Simple task. Your worker seemed very bothered with unloading the dented product box. He rudely RIPPED OPEN the plastic bag containing the plug!! Doesn't anyone use SCISSORS? You are a hardware store and it is common courtesy. He never had the audacity to remove the plastic cover and turn on the heater to demonstrate and ensure functionality; even when I waited patiently. Rather, he rudely grimaced at me and sarcastically commented that "it should work". What am I paying for? Unacceptable and deplorable. I also had the horrific phone interaction with a judgmentally arrogant, controlling and ignorant male worker named, Emmanuel. I needed to report this vile treatment. I went this morning to get a duplicate of keys, since last time I went I found out that the keys they printed me didn't work at all. So I came back this morning and spoke to the manager where she proceeded to make racist and extremely rude and out of pocket remarks about me and yelling at me for not wanting a "4 set of keys" considering I only needed 2 keys. I am the person that called in advance to make sure you had what I needed to make a small repair at my home in Burlingame. You assured me you had what I needed. When I arrived I announced that I was the one who called you and you pointed to where I could locate the item. I went to the shelf but it had a lock on it. By this time you were behind the counter cashiering, there was one person there so I stood in line and waited my turn. My turn is up and 3 people lined up behind me. When I stepped up I told you the item I need is locked. You asked me to step aside while you helped the person behind me, I waited patiently and you continued to help more people in the line. For the first time since this virus came upon us I did not wear a mask per Doctors orders due to recent major surgery. So I'm waiting in line while this parade of unprotected people walk past me and I'm thinking I did everything possible to locate the item I needed so that I would not be out in the open, I figured in n out of the store right. Not Quite. I guess she / the cashier with heavy accent was expecting for me to wait until all the customers in line were taken care of and then I'd be helped. Funny though more people lined up and here I am being exposed to their air, their germs. I walked out. Today, my husband was assembling a trike for our little one as his birthday gift but we misplace the wheel parts, my hubby tried over one hour to take the wheel out with no luck, so I took the trike to ACE hoping to find if any tool can let me get the wrong part off! I wait in line at the counter then a very friend man ask me what he can do for me, I told him, then he starts to help me right away!! he tried to hard to pull the ring out using all kinds of tools, he needs to use very big strength since the ring is totally stuck in there, and I am afraid he might hurt himself, then finally it came off!! I drove all the way down and spent about an hour choosing my ends only to be told by the employee that this isn't true. And that she could only sell me the long pipes. I went into ACE Hardware on Park Ave, Burlingame today to buy a paint roller. I found it on the shelf with the price marked as $1.79. However, the cashier rang it up as about $4. I told her it was marked as $1.79 and showed her this price on the shelf. She removed the price and told me it was a mistake. Well, it might be a mistake, but it wasn't my mistake. I told her I would buy it for the price advertised, $1.79. She just kept saying sorry, it was a mistake. The clerk doesn't seem to understand that you have to sell a product for its advertised price. I left. This cashier (who I think is the owner/manager?) would rather receive a negative Yelp review than sell a $1.79 product. Crazy. Be cautious if you buy something from this store. They may try to charge you more than their advertised price and just say, "Sorry, it's a mistake." I don't think the ACE Corporation encourages their franchisees to be dishonest. They were patient sat with me, made sure that I understood what I needed me to do, directed me to youtube videos, and several times they recommended a cheaper part that would do the job just as well.
