After a long day of hiking at Quarry Park in Half Moon Bay, I came here for a great sandwich. I ordered a turkey and cheese on sourdough. This is a really unusual place because they have Hardware, coffee, sandwiches, souvenirs, and drinks. There's also a lot of candy up front. The service was fast and the people are friendly. Wow this place has like everything you need at a hardware store. Half of the stuff is ancient but all assortments of bolts and screws, etc. But I actually came for the bagels. The salmon bagel was definitely the best but twice the price of the bacon egg bagel, but for good reason! Still comes out cheaper than most places and it's all handmade and warm. We walked a mile from our hotel in the wind for this, mainly to get some exercise and fresh air but so worth it. Ate it back at our hotel. read more

El Granada Hardware & Cafe was one of those examples for me. We were driving south towards Santa Cruz when my eyelids started getting very heavy and caffeine became an immediate necessity. A quick search on my phone, after I had pulled over and stopped, suggested that there was good coffee at a hardware store near me! Skeptically I plotted in the address and got back on the road. El Granada Hardware & Cafe is a hardware store, there is no mistaking that, but they also have a surprisingly wide selection of coffee beans. We tried two flavors, One was their dark roast which was very good (my favorite) and a raspberry and something else flavored choice that was surprisingly good too. The coffees are handmade, which makes a world of difference. We did not need a hammer or nails, so we sat out front, sipped our coffee and enjoyed the pleasant weather before getting back on Cabrillo highway heading towards Santa Cruz. read more

Rarely have I been so underwhelmed as when consuming a sandwich made at El Granada Hardware & Cafe. With all of the great reviews I was looking to have an excellent sandwich made at a local place. Granted it is a hardware store. But when you have been to as many places in the stick as I have with surprisingly good experiences at unusual locations, well, you just come to expect that greatness can be found anywhere. Unfortunately greatness is not found in an El Granada Hardware & Cafe sandwich. Not the worst I have ever had but certainly not exciting either. My creation was the Dutch Crunch bread with salami, pastrami, cheddar, swiss, veggies, mayo, and mustard. The bread the most exciting thing about the sandwich and it was average at best. The meats we simply bland. The taste, texture, and quality of made me think that someone was trying to go cheap while still asking for a better price. The cheeses both were something that also made me think of cheap quality. The veggies were fresh and good. Mustard and mayo were okay. But I have to say I they overall creation was about as exciting as a sandwich made at a grade school. Martinelli's apple juice washed it all down and was good. The small latte they made was good. The courtyard to eat your food in was cute Their hardware selection seemed about right for the community. They also stuffed a lot of other things besides hardware in the place. Almost int he style of a general store. Would I go back to El Granada Hardware & Cafe? Not for their disappointing sandwich! But maybe for some hardware or a coffee in the future. read more

Great spot for coffee! Lots of options and made fresh. Tried a few of the baked goods and they were also delicious.

We were across the street at the best BBQ place in the Bay Area, apparently. We never did find out because they ran out of meat at 2, lol. BUT because we parked in front of this little place, had to go check it out ... After all, who can resist picking up some hardware aiming with a sandwich and chips, they're in some good old fashioned coastal cider and your god to go :-) The plot thickens because.... Drumroll--we used to live here and collect our mail at the post office box in El Granada! But when we were here ages ago, this adorable and quaint little shop did not exist. Wish it had been because think: a shop from yesteryear, kinda like Little House on the Prairie, a rural town with a store that carries everyday goods and foods and finds and household stuffs you'd need to make a life for yourself. Or the Waltons ... such a charming little place. We did not get a sandwich which they have and you can customize, but we got a coffee AB's of all things, a little broom come dust pan thingie. EG Hardware & Cafe has been a godsend during COVID. I live in the neighborhood and love having fresh coffee beverages and made-to-order hot breakfast sandwiches a walking distance away. The deli sandwiches are also great, and they offer a wide selection of breads, meats and fixin's. In terms of hardware, they don't have the most complete inventory but may have what you need in a pinch if you don't want to fight the weekend traffic or have to bike to Ace, so it's worth a look. I once came in here looking for a plastic snake to clear a drain - they were out, but the owner just gave me on they in the employee bathroom. They seem to have high turnover with employees, especially the younger ones. I hope it's not because of slowed business making it hard to keep them well compensated in the form of tips. I try to stop by when I can and if you're in the neighborhood (or not) so should you. read more

I asked the young boy with black hair why he hadn't finished my latte he said he was busy making six lunches I said is there some reason you don't wait on women when I come in all the time? the other older woman ended up with a small plain coffee when I paid for two triple latte extra large. When asked why I was given small black coffee she said it was the correct latte it was not it was a Cheap 7-11 coffee I guess I will have to go elsewhere it's unfortunate because I'm working on my home and I need the hardware. no handicapped people are welcome there I'm actually totally ashamed of EL Granada we have had heavy smoke, historically devastating fires our air quality is 170 thanks a lot for your inexcusable rude behavior read more

I was lured to this spot by the 4th of July BBQ going out front. It's a small hardware shop off the beaten path. They were selling a pulled pork sandwich with potato salad and coleslaw for $8. I'm all for supporting local businesses and figured that I would be hungry 10 minutes later after getting on Hwy 1, so I bought a plate. The pork was heavenly, the salads, not as much - being the non-home made variety. But hey, it was a LOT of food. Going inside to pay, I realized that this was more than just your run-o'-the-mill hardware shop. Sure you can get copies of keys made here, but they also sold jewelry, surf wax, candy, and all different types of coffee beans! What? It looks like you can get your coffee made with the various beans too. The people who work here are very friendly and laid back. I chatted to them about the huge flower-looking succulents that love the coastal weather - they look like the Chicken and Hens variety, but these monsters are more like Ostriches and Emus, they're monstrous. When I was leaving, the guy shouted to me "Mahalo!" and I thought, "Whoa, these folks remind me of my relatives." Getting into the car, my husband turned to me and said, "It felt like we were hanging out with your family." Yes, it's that type of place. read more

The coffee is good, but please, please don't handle the cups by the rim. Even in non-pandemic times it's bad health and safety practices. Even with gloves you could be passing COVID because the gloves aren't fresh with each customer. Won't be back until people are properly trained. read more

My friends and I were on a drive down hwy 1 on a Sunday morning. It was foggy coming out of the tunnel at devil's slide but it was very sunny when we arrived down at El Granada. We stopped in for a bite to eat and were greeted by very friendly staff. The store has everything. Hardware, candy, sandwiches, ice cream, coffee, cold beverages, newspapers, lotto and more. The pastrami sandwich I had on sourdough was very good and so was the clam chowder. The kids enjoyed their delicious ice cream. There is a patio area on the side and a few tables in front of the store where we ate our food. Parking was easy and the post office is across the street. Easy access from highway 1. Highly recommend this one stop shop. read more

We got in at around 10:30 am today and it was very busy. It seems that everyone's there for coffee or sandwiches if not there for some hardware things. Carlos makes some mean looking sandwiches. This is "THE" sandwich place to go to if you're in the area. They're so inexpensive and HUGE!! i still have my other half saving up for my to be starving tummy. i do prefer this place for sandwiches over other sandwich joints around half moon bay. *edit* forgot to mention that this is a hardware store that also makes coffee, sandwiches, and sell dreyer's ice cream. it's AWESOME read more

This is one of those places that makes you sound like you've gone off your meds when you try to describe it: well, it's a hardware store, but they have surf supplies in the corner below a wide screen television. And it's also a cafe with specialty drip coffees, a sandwich bar and there's a huge candy section like a 5 and dime and you can also buy Maverick's gear as well as their own sweatshirt and t-shirts. And some flip-flops. And a hammer. And there's an outdoor patio with tables, but it looks like it's chained up for the winter. And..well, let's just say it's a cool little spot. Please note that service varies as in sometimes they're sweet as could be and other times they may look at you like you've just landed from another planet. Their dutch crunch bread is the BEST...Dutch Crunch with Albacore Tuna YUM The store itself is just weird, moving to the coast from suburbia the thought of a Hardware Store that also sold sandwiches seemed crazy..but it works and it fast became of my favorite places. It was our first time in El Granada and wanted to grab something to eat. We found this little cute cafe that had different kinds of coffee & sandwiches. We decided to go with the caramel macciatto & pastrami sandwich. They both tasted great and honestly up there with Starbucks and the sandwich was delicious. Reminded me of Mr. Pickles... It seems that everyone's there for coffee or sandwiches ....and if not for some hardware things for home. There was also smoothies, ice cream, chips and drinks. . We met the owners of the cafe Roy & Maria...they welcomed us in & made us feel comfortable. Wish we had a cafe like this near our place in concord,ca. Omg! I came to get coffee here, a friend told me about this cafe, I ordered a pound of coffee. And noticed all the hardware ! I picked up 3 items a plus don't need to spend on gas to go over the hill!! I was told I get a free cup of coffee for the pound I bought ! Stopped here for a smoothie after a hike because we were too parched and lazy to drive a couple extra miles elsewhere. Definitely not worth it. Smoothie are fruit blended with frozen yogurt or icecream, mine was pretty liquidy and tasted like the fruit had been in the freezer too long, didn't want to finish it because it tasted bad. Finally a good cup of coffee in the HMB area! Choose between about 30 kinds of beans and enjoy a fresh cup of pour over coffee. fast and friendly service. Tucked inside and to the right is an incredibly good sandwich waiting for you to give it a chance. I have tried a lot of different ones and I can't even decide what my favorite is and their mustard makes me crave it and I don't even like mustard. Was a cute little shop with tasty treats! They accomodated my picky kid by toasting some bread, smearing with butter & adding American cheese - fake grilled cheese!! She ate it ALL so I was happy!! I had a ham sandwich on a french roll - was really fresh & tasty, bread was a little tough, but still GOOD!
