I've been shopping at this location since 1979; and while the isles and department locations change from time to time, they always have a great selection and trained friendly staff whom are always somewhere close to help. I like what they did to the garden center, and the free first couple of cuts in the lumber department has been a big help in the past. I find their prices to be very good; as it saves me gas and a trip to Lowes or HD over the hill. I feel lucky to have them here, and in HMB; the other location in Pacifica have been friendly and helpful in the past too. read more

Purchased a 32-40 foot ladder at Ace and didn't have my coupon and the salesperson willingly gave us $5 off! I couldn't transport the ladder on top of my sedan vehicle but Alberto, a worker at Ace, offered to drive it to my home on his RAV 4! Appreciate the customer service at this Ace! Since the new ownership took over they have made a ton of changes to the store. Unfortunately none of those changes have led to an improved shopping experience. They NEVER have everything I need - regardless of what the website says. I'm not talking about items they don't carry but rather things that are a part of their normal inventory but that they are out of stock on. It's to the point that I know it's going to be faster just to drive over the hill in the first place rather than go here and then have to drive over the hill because they don't have what I need. I would like to shop here. I hope they read this and know that all my neighbors feel the same. We want a hardware store here but how many times can I keep trying when they have so many empty shelves? read more

Always great service here. Kind workers who always know how to help and where to point you in the right direction. I like how they ask to input your phone number to get points towards your purchase. Also the kid who helped me this time assisted in the entire process of buying a space heater while our pilot light is out right now. I give up. I've tried to shop local, but despite all the renovations and upgrades, this location is a waste of my time anymore. After at least 4 wasted trips in the last 6 months, I'm going to have to "go over the hill" to shop. I had to drive to their HMB store to get Neatsfoot Oil; no 3/4" to 1/2" elbow for a gas line, no rat bait blocks today- just pellets-, .....no one in store to offer help, just a cashier visible. Don't bother shopping here unless you have plenty of time to wait for staff to assist you (or then again maybe they won't). I informed the cashier when I walked in that I needed assistance back in the light bulb department. He advised someone would be with me shortly. After waiting for 5 minutes I walked back up to the cashier to see what was happening. The cashier said that the (apparently ONLY) service assistant would be with me shortly. The (apparently ONLY) service assistant was making keys for someone and didn't appear to be anywhere close to finishing up. After waiting another 5 minutes back in the light bulb aisle, I decided that enough was enough and the complete lack of service was unacceptable. On the way out, I stuck my head in the manager's office where two people were talking and told them they had just lost a sale because of a 10-minute wait time for assistance. I absolutely love this particular Ace Home Center, in Linda Mar. There are so many more options closer to where I live, but I will go out of my way to shop at this particular store. The customer service is my far the very best. In particular, there is the most helpful and friendly woman who works in the nursery. Gaydean has so many wonderful suggestions regarding the beautiful flowers they sell there. I find myself stopping by the nursery weekly, and adding to my garden. Went to Hassett ace hardware in Pacifica. I gave the guy my old paint can with a code on it for the color. He tell me he can't use that and will have to match it. Ok so he does a piss poor job at matching it and now I have a long white patch on my tan house. I went back today and asked the same guy to add a little more tint. he responds "oh I can't do that" I asked why not and he beat around the bush and never said. Next, I gave him a bigger sample of paint off the house and asked him to scan it and see if it comes out with the same code on the paint he gave me. It did not. I asked how can this be? He tells me my paint is faded and the paint he gave me was new. Now, I'm not a trained Ace employee but if you scan a faded paint chip then the computer would give you a code for faded paint not new paint. Who's he trying to kid. So I'm out 78 bucks for paint I can't use and they refuse to even try to fix. SO the moral of the story is Hassett Ace hardware in Pacifica, New owners same shitty incompetent employees. read more

(Deserves a very negative rating) I am incredibly repulsed, mortified, outraged, baffled and furious with your 560 San Pedro Ave., Pacifica, CA. 94044 staff members unwelcoming, unpleasant, sarcastic, ignorant, lazy (floor staff incompetent with intense cigarette body odor....I am severely allergic and could not stop coughing. I could not breathe!!) and rude demeanor. The gray haired counter/cashier male was gravely inappropriate with commenting: "Well, where do you want her to meet you..?" The scruffy floor staff was unknowledgeable, clueless, crass with verbally pushing me out the door and telling me repeatedly to go to O'Reilly's WITHOUT any respect/professionalism of etiquette or assistance. No one is happy at this location. I HAD to plead with the floor staff to physically check for a small lightbulb. WOW. What are they being compensated for? The young male cashier, newly hired, lacked the audacity and decency to maturely hand me my purchased item and receipt. This is my second time at an ACE store in the Northern Bay Area. I am still coughing. Disgusting. Thank you for the irresponsible and health hazard second hand smoke. So sad....I had hoped for a much more polished experience. Never again. read more

i was going there to get weed whacker string and I was walking in the door and one employee was standing there blocking me from entering, held up his phone showing 659 and proceeded to say " yeah, we're basically closed, there's only one other customer here and he's leaving." As I sit here typing this I see two other customers leave after that "one customer". I get wanting to go home but the hours state open until 7pm today and it's not 7, close yes, still not 7 though. Today we were BBQing and we like to use wood chips with our charcoal. We were out of wood chips! So I drove down to the Linda Mar Ace and did several circuits around their BBQ center and could not find any wood chips. So I asked a friendly employee who was working nearby. He could not find wood chips either. I asked if he knew if the nearby Ace stores had any. He went to his office, called the Ace at Manor and told me that they had multiple varieties of wood chips available there. So I went there and got what I needed. I dont frequent this hardware store unless i really need something, but in a lot of ways they have alot more actual hardware than home depot. The customer service is great here though! They really go above and beyond and all the employees seem very educated on the products which is so refreshing. Honestly the only thing that keeps me away is prices. I think they are alot more expensive than thier competitors, and the only time i go to them over someone else is when i need help selecting an item because thier staff is so knowledgeable. This small Ace may not have everything, but they are well staffed and always friendly and knowledgeable. I shop here regularly, but my recent experience wasn't even a purchase. I had to dispose of a large number of fluorescent tubes and took them to my local recycling yard. Unfortunately the recycling yard attendant was rude and would only take a few of the tubes, and telling me to go to a place in south San Francisco but couldn't tell me if they would take them or not. Can you believe I pay recology for this service?! twice even (once at home, once at my business). I called ace, and they said no problem. I had never been to this store until yesterday and then today to return something. I had bought a wrong sized bucket and had to return it today. I had not asked for a receipt to be printed out the day before the return date. I approached a young man and told him the issue and the return was seamlessly handled. He also had someone find me the correct sized bucket. As I am about to pay for the new bucket, it dawned on me I could maybe get some disinfectant spray for the kitchen. Instead of being exasperated because I was in middle of completing the bucket transaction the young man- pointed me in the correct direction- I got what I needed- including a couple of disinfectant wipes by the counter and I was out of there in no time. The guy the day before was also very helpful. While I live in San Bruno (15 miles away) where there is a True Value- I am going to this place whenever I need any hardware related products. As an aside the place is much larger inside than it appears from the outside and is well stocked. Plenty of parking and everyone was wearing masks. Great to get such good service from both cashiers who were young guy's in 20's. read more

How in the F does this horrible excuse for a hardware store get FOUR STARS??? No way. The service is regularly wretched they barely have more than a CVS and they're rude. The floor person will have a LOUD conversation inches from your ear... which could have been 20 decibels lower and still clearly audible. I would say something to someone there but it seems pretty trashy, so I'd expect a nasty argument. NEVER EVER returning. This is the 5th time I've been here and the 5th poor experience I've had. Definitely time for a review. EDIT: in response to a "compliment" an employee sent me.... I wanted to reply in kind, but the note you sent wasn't an apology, it was a Nope, we're not the problem. So since there's not enough room to post my reply in "compliments" I'll post it here. I walk in and your staff is chatting happily with each other (if there's anyone around at all) it's difficult to break into that conversation if I need something. Every time I ask for something, eg.. flashing with drip rail.. Gas hose replacement, graduated cylinder, I have to explain it three times and show it to them on google before they know what I'm talking about. And even then, it's a struggle. Also, there's regularly ONE PERSON in the entire store to ask anything of and there's a single person asking them about the history of Noah's ark and getting a complete answer. I've waited (idiotically) 15 minutes for help... tried to ask a quick question and was told WITH HAND I need to wait. I could have driven to the Ace on Manor and gotten help faster. And I HAVE. Your store personnel don't know how to have basic retail politeness (the loud conversation inches from my ear... acknowledging people as they walk in the door, (eye contact and a smile or nod would be plenty) peeling off for a second to ask what the person who's been standing there for a ridiculously long time if there's something quick... The only reason I keep beating my head on the wall is because you're basically next door. I've been to a LOT of Ace hardwares and usually LOVE them BECAUSE they're small and friendly. We won't be coming back, thanks to the aggressively rude service. We came in with a $25 Off coupon from O'Cedar. The checked didn't know how to put it through the point-of-sale system so he called a manager. The manager came out and immediately radiated disinterest. He took the coupon, stepped away to read it over, and then kind of leaned back to the counter to toss it to us, saying, from a distance "We can't take that." No more information, no helpfulness, just dismissive. I asked why and he said "Because your order isn't $25. I can't take $25 off if your order isn't $25." This is of course utter nonsense. the O'Cedar product(s) would be free, up to $25. He doesn't know how to do that in the POS system either and obviously didn't care. He wanted to get rid of us and so he didn't offer a solution or even an apology but just made it clear that this store wasn't going to help us. Why does using a manufacturer's coupon at your local store turn into something where we feel like we've done something wrong??? read more

A real nursery. In Pacifica. Count me in! We spent literally 2 hours in here gathering miscellaneous parts for Hubs crazy projects. We were attended to by at least 5 people who knew their stuff and led us directly to where we needed to go. I spent a considerable time out in the nursery gathering an assortment of plants for all of my planters. I was pleased. The pricing is about what I'd expect from a little mom & pop hardware store. More than Lowe's but a much different assortment. I'll definitely be back to satisfy my plant fetish. read more

Friendly service, fairly well stocked. The youngsters that work there are fairly knowledgeable too. It's usually a good alternative to going to Home Depot or Lowe's. (The negative reviews I read made me laugh because the comments were just plain weird, like calling the staff racist--some people project their own issues on others!) I wish their hours were better though, because I have had to drive all the way to the Home Depot in Colma because the Ace wasn't open. read more

It's littlered with "kids" who have a sense of responsibility and ownership. They may not have the answer, and fart around a bit, but catch on that you are looking for something and take ownership in whatever it is you need or looking for.
